Boycotting as they dump your private info into the AI is exactly what they want, we need to boycott BEFORE the 13th in order to prevent the data breach, they want to look like they listened after it is too late to keep you safe

Just to clarify that the boycott is about not letting YT have your ID and photo scan. They already have all the information to feed to the AI, and I'm pretty sure even deleting my account and asking for my data to be deleted wouldn't do anything, because that takes like 30 days to take effect. The whole thing is a ploy to get users to fork over their personal identification and have that tied to their watch habits - INCREDIBLY VALUABLE INFO if you are, let's say, a company that can sell that information to whatever government wants to increase the control of their population. We've already seen the power of YouTube and TikTok to shape narratives and change people's opinions in social and political matters, enough to shift elections and organize protests. If the government knows you watch Breadtube on a weekly basis, they can use that to frame you when someone who maybe looks like you sets fire to a car during a protest. If they know you lile First-Person Shooter games, they can serve you only games where you play as the military, they can boost channels that are patriotic, they can even create channels with cute ladies talking about how they love military men, so you start associating military service with fun and love and profit and are more willing to sign up. It's information that allows for unprecedented levels of manipulation of the public.

That being said: FreeTube (https://freetubeapp.io/) and Invidious (https://invidious.io/) are both resources that let you watch YT videos without giving it views. They have been around for a while and are a measure for online privacy since way before all this crap went down. And YT-dlp (https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp) allows you to download audio and video, in case you want to create a backlog for the duration of the boycott.

Various CRT TV Research for Tenna Purposes

I grew up with CRT TVs as a kid but like. I was a kid. I'm much more of a computer science person than a mechanics person but whatever

I'll also toss in some speculation on what each thing could mean for tenna here and there

Depending on how long the Dreemurs have had their TV, Tenna could probably be from anywhere between the mid 80s to the early 2000s.

I went to a manuals website and picked the Panasonic TC-14S3R at random. From what I can tell this particular TV is from the 80s, and I'm going to base a lot of the information here on that particular manual.

Various Settings

Contrast: Low contrast = more gray, less range in color and brightness. High contrast = more vibrant colors, lights are brighter and shadows are darker. Both increasing and decreasing contrast can cause detail to be lost. Lowering contrast can lose the subtle differences between similar mid-level shades and colors, whereas increasing it loses differences in bright and dark images. Could perhaps correlate with emotional state? Low contrast = low emotional range (maybe not necessarily depressed, but both happiness and sorrow etc. are muted? Could have a similar effect to taking an anti-depressant, perhaps), high contrast = high emotional range, highs are higher but lows are lower. Perhaps helpful for being exciting for TV but difficult to deal with emotionally.

Colour: The manual didn't specify what this does that I saw, but it's probably just the saturation setting. No saturation = black and white, high saturation = extra bright colors. Emotionally, I imagine low saturation would correlate with depression, whereas high saturation would correlate with joy (or even mania).

Brightness: Pretty straightforward. Darker image vs brighter image. If contrast and color were to stand in for emotional state, I imagine brightness would be more associated with energy levels. Perhaps his screen gets dimmer as he gets more tired.

Sharpness: Low sharpness = blurry image, high sharpness = things look clearer and harsher. Perhaps his image would become sharper as he focuses... and things like drugs and alcohol (or equivalents) could cause his image to blur.

Also related to image settings: The colored bars you often see are the SMPTE pattern. It's used for calibrating brightness and other color settings.

Mode: From what I understand, just a bunch of presets for watching different sorts of things. Pictured is sports mode but there might also be a movie mode among others. Modern TVs still generally have this

Apparently "Picture" here is just contrast.

"Hue" as far as I can tell lets you shift, well, the hue. It's not normally something you need to mess with. If your reds are red and your blues are blue, etc. You're probably fine. If we assume that colors have some association with Tenna's emotions, though, I imagine that messing with his hue settings could really screw him up. Make him happy when he should be sad, something like that.

And then there would also be things like volume (I feel like turning down his volume has a lot of potential), input (normally he'd get input through his RF Input, as discussed in the next section, but I feel like switching him over to a different port would again, have potential.

Ports and Such

Alrighty, the spicy stuff.

So there's a few different ways to get an image and such onto your CRT tv.

Usually with a modern TV you'll just have HDMI and that's it. One cable and you're done. Maybe your tv will even be fancier than that and have a USBC port. I feel like QUEEN is probably a bit too old for USBC, but she probably does have HDMI. But I'm getting off track.

RF Input: Stands for Radio Frequency input. Handled both video and audio with one cable. As far as I can tell it became common in the 70s? Was often used for cable TV or "over-the-air" broadcasts from TV stations. The cables are also called Coaxial Cables. They have a prong in the middle, and are attached by screwing them on. Apparently RF is also prone to interference. Things like wifi, bluetooth, and microwaves can all cause RF interference, apparently. And also electric fences. So basically put a shock collar on that guy and see what happens

This is what Tenna's antennas would be connected to. I imagine disconnecting him from this would be... disconcerting, at the very least. He'd probably go blind and deaf or something.

Composite: The red white and yellow cables. Very common, you've probably seen them before. The yellow cable handles video, while the white and red cables handle the left and right audio specifically. Having one cable unplugged doesn't stop the others from working: you could have just the right audio but nothing else, or just video but no audio, for example. Again, implications. possibilities. This is what my Nintendo Wii uses. Usually provides a clearer signal than an RF connection but not considered great.

S-video: A cable for video transmission that's better than composite, apparently. Doesn't do audio though, so the audio data needs to be plugged in separately.

Component: Needed for high-definition television. Three cables for Luminance, Blue difference, and Red difference. Doesn't seem to handle audio by default?? And apparently there can be up to 5 of these cables??? They were quickly wiped out by HDMI cables though. Considering Tenna's age it seems unlikely he would have had ports for these.

The power cable on a CRT tv would usually be permanently attached.

Screen and Internals

Right so this is where I start to struggle to understand things, but I'll do my best. If I get anything wrong here please let me know or reblog with a correction.

The front of a CRT screen has a coating that glows when it is hit by electrons. The screen does not technically have pixels, but does have an array of different colors of phosphor (the coating). To create different colors, different dots are hit. As far as I can tell this functions very similarly to pixels or how images are printed in magazines.

Anyway, at the back of the TV there is basically a laser (not the right word I don't think because it's not beams of light it's beams of electrons but whatever) that is shot at the different areas of the screen to create an image.

Anyway it's all rather complicated if you want to learn more read the wikipedia page or watch one of the videos I linked. Here's the stuff I care about:

CRT screens are very delicate and you basically can't repair them, because they are vacuums. When you smash a CRT tv you can kind of see them implode in a cloud of dust. You can't really come back from that. From what I can tell the only way to repair a CRT tv with a shattered screen is to replace the screen entirely, which seems to be by far the most important, complicated, expensive part. If the screen shatters you can salvage some components but ultimately the screen will need to be rebuilt or replaced entirely. Also, they don't make CRTs anymore because they are so complicated and the market isn't there. What I'm saying is Tenna is extremely lucky the Knight didn't break his screen, and if Tenna's screen ever did break that man is screwed. And not in the fun way. Unless you are me.

Band au

Me and a friend talked about a band au were the kids enter a battle of the bands, I thought up this scene and used it to practice my comic making~

A couple of notes on the au below.

Kris- Guitar (still plays piano, but not much anymore)

Susie- Drums

Ralsie- Bass/Keys (interchangeable, also lends backup vocals)

Noelle- Lead vocals (Noelle can also play some Bass so she will pick it up if Ralsie is playing the keyboard)

All Darkeners are essentially Lightners in this au ( Ralsei's design inspired by @heartludwig 's au) we're just playing with the characters like dolls rn so that just makes it easy to include all our faves lol

May post more about this in the future if we make anything else idk lol

So the soul is a bit too linked to the meta narrative of the game so it won't be in this au. (Sorry soul lovers lol)

Instead Kris picked up piano from Asriel in this au. The two would play together when they were younger, but with the messy divorce of Toriel and Asgore, along with Dess going missing, then top it off Asriel leaving for college? Kris withdrew more and more into themself and stopped playing piano as part of that. Too many memories linked to it.

With this being the case, Dess was actually the one to first teach Kris how to play some guitar! And in the present they pick it up again because Dess's push for self-determination and self-reliance was always aspiring to them!

so like that tweet like "why was spamtenna written like under the hays code" got me thinking

thinking about the fact that TV shows as a format are inherently both very SFW and repressed and also heteronormative. I don't know if heteronormativity even exists in the deltarune universe but there's certainly at least a meta implication meant to invoke it from a viewer perspective surrounding tenna and we DO know sexual puritanism is a thing in the DR world and that toriel is especially a hardass about it, so tenna by his literal nature in the household he is and by his format is basically forced to repress his sense of love, sexuality and ability to say outrageous things (especially because of the parental locks). we see this change when he's immediately freed from this using swears and showing the music channel in chapter 4.

game shows are ESPECIALLY heteronormative, often with jokes about nagging wives and usually the only leniency of sex mentions is often at the detriment of women, which makes tenna's lack of mention for any of these aspects particularly standout, like a negative space of something where you'd expect to be there but there isn't. instead you get fun flourishes and flamboyant movements and a desperate desire to keep being watched.

I'm saying basically that TV is gay as hell and represses the fuck out of it, and you include the knowledge that being gay was a HUGE career ending accusation that was taken as seriously as death threats throughout the entire 20th century up until the 90s (and extending a bit into the 2000s) and it very much gives the vibe that tenna is supposed to invoke an older gay man coming into the new millennium unaware of how much the world is changing, allowing him to express himself and be himself, instead shoving it down in fear that he will no longer be relevant or watched or loved for it. you throw in that "4am shock therapy" joke and it's BLATANTLY clear yeah, this is an older repressed gay man who lived in a sexually puritan household who is afraid to fully express himself due to abandonment issues. ouch!

and then we got spamton.

despite all of the jokes about haha internalized homophobia spamton, actually, spamton has no shame about his sexuality. he still can't fully express it for a couple reasons, the first being in a game that's mostly SFW and it just wouldn't be relevant, with the bulk of what we got coming from the spamton sweepstakes (business loving businessman) but also, because now in his current form, he's a spam email. an inherently heteronormative format as well.

spam emails are literally a format that falsely feigns attraction and the allure of women for the sake of scamming people, often out of desperation. it's a veneer, an obfuscation of true intent for the sake of getting money. it's especially interesting cause again spamton doesn't hide what he is—into men—and he clearly DOESN'T WANT to be a spam email. it's literally him losing the ability to speak truly as himself and having to supplant it with raunchy and deceptive ads to convey what he wants. which you could argue mirrors societal pressures where even if you're honest with yourself about being queer, you still need to play by society's rules and use the words of greater heteronormative society to get what you want. it's like it's literally injecting itself in his brain despite that not being who he is. and we are supposed to get the sense that spamton is the way he is—rendered unable to speak normally like he wants to—from whatever eldritch force contacted him on the phone. throw this in with him being the key to the weird route with the thornring and it's literally like he's been forced into heteronormativity as an eldritch force (which, again, doesn't seem to exist in the deltarune universe!) and then we as a player in the weird route are literally forcing kris (nonbinary) and noelle (likely a lesbian) into heteronormative roles that make them miserable and destructive to try to defy the very cloth of the reality of deltarune and break the game down to its barest bones.

and then we gotta remember spamton wasn't always like that. if he can be upfront while still speaking in spam injected format, he was probably more upfront and blatant about it back during the big shot era. by his very nature, he could be! he's part of the internet, a new modern age where people can freely communicate without worrying about the censors killing them. he's also an advertisement, which famously even on television could get away with overtly sexual ads that normal programming couldn't, and then you start to realize the deeper implications of spamton offering to bring tenna into the new modern era and teach him the ropes.

it ain't just about technology. spamton literally represented on a metanarrative level, to tenna, someone able to be freely himself in his orientation and who literally haunted the halls of TV world with how he asserted himself. it's something unthinkable to tenna and yet technically allowed since ads can get away with that, right? and then you got spamton offering to teach him technology and how that represents freeing tenna from obsolescence and when you connect the two it's literally like spamton brought out a side of tenna that he deeply repressed and felt shameful about and could bring him up to speed that in the new era he doesn't have to hide it. and when he lost spamton he lost that assurance that he could exist in the modern era. he lost the ability to fully be himself. it's not until the fun gang free him from the dreemurr home that he can start to feel that again. it's literally the embodiment of outrageous, open advertising meeting the repression of cable television. spamton literally loved tenna so much he was going to let him be open and free, on a metatextual level, before being robbed of that ability by the very same eldritch forces that robbed his speech and forced him to speak in the words of others with desires he doesn't want.

Why live for tomorrow when you can live for today? 

A behind her cool guy visage Miles is an absolute dork, with a love for pirate and Superhero lore. She also isn't the best with impulse control, the kind of guy that would join a friends fight without hesitation. So when her bestie asks if she'd help with some illegal Superheroing she was SO down! 

Although she has the vibe that nothing can get to her, Miles really struggles with emotional intimacy and conflict - keeping even someone like Dev at arms length - as well as how her abstraction effects her everyday life and self-esteem. Hiding all this behind a cocky grin, she prefers travelling over settling down, favouring odd jobs and hookups along the way. It’s made her quite the jack-of-all -trades, and a handy person to know for whatever needs may arise (and she does mean whatever).

THE GREATEST villain the pitiful city had ever seen!!

Or at least they were. Back when the city CARED about a villain with flare, back when hero's gave a damn about witty banter, back when their nemesis was THE Starry Knight! The hero that the city adored, their number one and the one that sparked a burning, passionate feeling of... villiany within Xe-none! {<--- they are also a idiot}

Not many villains could say they had  Starry Knight as their nemesis. But HE could...he did.

But that all changed when Starry Knight disappeared.

Oh they tried to get back into it a while after he went, but it wasn't the same. Those newer hero just didn't get it! Nor seemed to care at all about the back and forth between hero and villain! None of them were him.

For 10 years Xe-none, hid away in their secret lab. The only contact they had with the outside world was the occasional food delivery driver (who would mysteriouly go missing after delivering to that area code). This went on until Xe-none's trusted underling push him to go out and actually buy some groceries, when the fridge had been filled with nothing but a couple sauce packets for several days (ok so maybe there was only so many delivery drivers that could go missing in one area before said area gets blacklisted. But it's not like they could have let them go knowing his secret hideout could he??).

So donning a flawless and unrecognisable human disguise, they ventured into the city. And if a foolish human mistakes him for one of their own, weeell who are they to say no to a little decite especially not when this human seemed to stir that old flame whithin Xe-none's chest, the flame of villainy! {Again they are an idiot}

How he's missed this!

Lucero is just a guy trying to do his part. Go to work, do his job, head the shop, get home, make sure Dev [He's mentiee? Random teen that he kinda, sorta adopted years ago?] Has eaten and then relax for the night before doing it all again tomorrow.

It's a routine, it's not glamorous or awe inspiring like working at that damn Superhero institution, The Alliance. But Lucero has had a taste of that life and it now sits bitter on his tongue.

No, it's a safe normal life that normal people have and doesn't draw unwanted attention. Unwanted attention like the presumed retired Supervillain Xe-none, in a poor human disguise at his local grocery store??  Lucero may have cut all ties with the Alliance and disagrees with how they do things, but there was no way he could stand by and let a villain know for their city wrecking plots snoop around his neighbourhood! (He really couldn't afford to move right now!) It couldn't be too hard right? Talk to Xe-none, act like he had no idea who they were (they probably thought their disguise was flawless and they were unrecognisable) keep an eye on them in case they are up to anything while also not drawing the eye of the Alliance or revealing their shared past or catching feelings...simple right?

Congratulations or deafening the concept of mortality!

Gravedale will always have a place in my heart for sure, but I will admit I'm not as hyperfixated on it atm as I was when doing my first redesigns.
