I love older comics because a guy will be saying "Bruce, the Hulk wasn't created by the gamma blast, you actually have Dissociative Identity Disorder due to your father's severe abuse of you and your mother," and this is the guy:

As much as I believe Monica should have been there and tried to get better for her children's sake, I don't think I could ever blame her for being absent. She didn't want to have them. She knew she could never be there for a child, but Frank forced her to have six children. He chained her up when she tried to get abortions. She still loved them so much, but it was never her choice, just like it was never her children's choice to be born into such a horrible situation.

NOT EVERY GAY SHIP FITS WITH BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN!! I keep seeing people do edits and fanarts about brokeback mountain but of fucking Steve and garret from the MINECRAFT MOVIE. I loved the minecraft movie and I do ship Steve and Garret but it's just downright disrespectful to compare them to jack and ennis. Brokeback Mountain is a beautiful and tragic movie, and people need to stop putting any gay ship they can think of into it. There are some ships that work where you can draw parallels, but STEVE AND GARRET are not applicable. Sure you can give them internalized homophobia but they do not live in the same time period as jack and ennis, they do not have even close to the same external pressures or political climate. To me it feels like people are just making brokeback mountain into a joke again because it's gay

In Defense of Dupli-Kate
Coming out as a Dupli-Kate defender, full disclaimer, I have only watched the show and have not read the comics. Please keep an open mind, I know how some of you are.
Kate has been receiving mass amounts of hate from much of the fandom and has been completely ignored by the rest of it, so I felt the need to defend her as a character. No, she is not perfect, but she is also not deserving of the vitriol many feel for her. I feel like many people have simply lumped her in with Immortal and are letting that influence their perception of her, but if you look at her story on its own merits it is very complex and interesting. Some of this is speculation but it is educated speculation based on all the facts we have been given.
Kate, like Rex, was raised by the government from a young age. While she was not given her powers like Rex was, she was still treated as government property and made to train her abilities and fighting skills. She has never known a normal life, even before she was taken in by the government. She had powers she could not control and inadvertently led her father to a severe psychological breakdown that by the looks of things he never recovered from. She was taken by the government and forced to fight her brother, the only person who could understand her or care to defend her, and then he left as well.        I want to bring focus to the fact that when a clone dies all of the others, including the original, feel that death. This is a huge detriment to her potential as a hero (the pain of a brutal death can be a bit distracting) but in the show she appears to be completely desensitized to it; it is highly improbable that the government had nothing to do with that. While this is not confirmed (or even implied really) I truly believe that part of her training was to be killed over and over again, in a variety of terrible ways. She would not be a viable or reliable superhero if she wasn’t, and the government in invincible doesn’t seem the type to leave a weak spot in their defenses just for ethics sake. She had nowhere to go if she objected. This is where we find her at the beginning of the series, fighting for the government that raised her on the Teen Team.
While this is not as big of a deal as some other things people hate Kate for I will still address it for the sake of full coverage. Kate did not know that Rex was cheating on Eve, and she is not ‘for the streets’ (though even if she were that is not a moral failing). She clearly expresses that she was under the impression Rex and Exe had broken up, or at the very least that Eve was seeing Invincible. She believed that Rex was fully available, and that Eve had already moved on based on what Rex told her. Her only relationship we see after this is her long-term relationship with immortal. None of what she did is a moral or ethical failing.
This is one of the biggest things I have seen people hate Kate for, that being faking her death and abandoning her team. This was a bad thing to do, we can all agree on that, but when rewatching the scene it does not seem like this was pre-planned in any way. In the scene we see Kate fight as she has in the past, but nothing she is doing is effective. Not just is Kate experiencing difficulties, it is clear in this battle that the lizard league is stronger than expected and the team is having a very difficult time. After she is caught, she asks for help from the others, sounding genuinely afraid. She duplicates herself and attempts to escape but is caught and killed. None of it appears pre-planned in any way, there is no way she could have known that the league would even be attacking. Moreover, the Lizard League chose to do their plan at that time specifically because only the ‘weaker’ Guardians of the Globe were on earth. They were no match for the League by design, and in the battle Kate’s clones were virtually useless. It seems more likely to me that Kate’s desertion was more out of fear and hopelessness after a near-death experience that anything else. But why didn’t she come back? Or get reinforcements? Why did she specifically fake her death?
At what point does a superhero get to retire while still being seen as a hero. This is a very controversial question, one that Invincible seems to be trying to tackle, but many do not see how it relates to Kate. She has spent her entire life either training to be a superhero or being a superhero, all because of powers she was born with and had no control in revealing to the government. Not only that, but very recently the threats to the world have not only gotten stronger, but earth has also lost their strongest hero (Omni-Man). Most of the people she looked up to were killed trying and failing to defend Earth, meanwhile she has been given their mantle to carry on. She and her team have been given an impossible task that they can’t refuse, one that will almost certainly mean death for all of her friends and maybe herself. She was trapped in being a superhero, there is no stepping down from the job of earth’s biggest line of defense. A hero can only retire respectably when they die, if they do not die in a gruesome battle then people will always say they did not do enough. They will be called selfish for having a gift and not wanting to put their lives on the line because of it. Kate never had a choice in becoming a hero, but she did have a choice in leaving. Kate didn’t want to work her entire life just to die in some gruesome way. She did not want to watch all her friends die while she alone remained, having failed them, with only the lingering feeling of death and the guilt. That death looked real because it almost was, and it was likely the closest she’s been to a real death in a long time. It likely seemed that as things were getting more and more dangerous with the departure of Omni-Man this would be her final and only opportunity to leave.
Immortal is also part of this equation. Kate and Immortal’s relationship influences much of her character after they get together, and so it is only right to examine that relationship and its effects on her. Kate immediately goes to Immortals home after she fakes her death, she clearly trusts him a great deal, and he clearly cares for her as well. That being said, there is nothing that could ever defend the relationship existing in the first place. Immortal is thousands of years old, and Kate is fresh off the TEEN TEAM. She cannot be older than twenty at most. She does not have even close to the amount of life experience that he has. I understand that nobody will ever have the same amount of life experience as Immortal due to his age, but being with a fully developed 30- or 40-year-old hero is exponentially better than being with a teenager, and he should know that. Immortal has been a superhero working for the government for longer than Kate has been alive. It is not a far stretch to believe she was aware of him her entire life, seeing as he was a famous hero who worked for the same people training her. She was told by someone she looked up to (or at the very least respected), possibly for her entire life, that she was special and worthy on her own merits. That she was not just a good hero but also a good relationship partner. Their entire relationship is based on the idea that Kate’s trauma has made her more mature and closer to his equal, but that is not how trauma works. She believes her many deaths let her relate to Immortal, that they are close to the same age if you think about it, but these are flawed lines of thinking. Despite all of the death and trauma she has endured Kate is still a teenager, being exposed to trauma at a young age doesn’t make you more mature it just makes you traumatized. She desperately wants to be liked as a person, something that she likely has not experienced for much of her life, and so she latched on to Immortal. By being in a relationship with her he encourages her to think of herself this way, as more mature than her peers, and so he also becomes the only person to whom she can relate. She runs away to the only person she feels cares about her and can relate to her, wanting to have a life with him.
A big part of why many people do not see much nuance with her or with her relationship with Immortal comes down to the fact that she was written poorly. Everything about her is told to the audience instead of shown. There are no scenes of Kate and Immortal finding solace in their shared experiences, no scenes where Kate talks to any of her ‘friends’ about her issues and motivations, instead we are vaguely told about her. She is only used to move forward the plot of the characters around her and so she comes out feeling flat. The only things the audience gets to see her do is abandon the team and retire, seemingly without thinking to how it would effect the others, and so it is no surprise that people hate her. She is rarely seen outside of her relationship to Immortal once they get together, and so of course people tend to lump them together. It is a writing issue more than it is a character issue.
In looking deeper at her character there is much to be found about the themes of the show, it is just a matter of looking past the writing. I hope this has convinced at least a few of you, let me know your thoughts :)

This is my breakdown of the primary alters in the Hulk System and the roles I believe they play.
Bruce Banner:
-Gatekeeper; while not always able to control who fronts he has been seen to be able to supress both savage and grey hulk for varried lengths of time, as well as stop more harmful alters like Devil and Guilt from ever fronting.
-Host; is fronting most of the time and is given primary control of the body.
Svavage Hulk:
Formed to protect Bruce from threats. Formed in early childhood due to severe physical and mental abuse and can be seen throughout Bruce's life.
-Protector; triggered to front by fear, pain, or anger, protects Bruce from percieved threats.
-Child Alter; formed during childhood abuse, exhibits a limited vocabulary and childlike mannerisms, with a focus on immediate needs.
Grey Hulk:
Formed during Bruces childhood when he was left alone and neglected for long stretches. Based on the gangster and mafia movies Bruce watched during this time, as well as his desire to be tough enough to withstand his abuse.
-Protector; protects Bruce from threats that require cunning and strategy, protects Bruce from doing things deemed as morally ambiguous.
-Teen Alter; seeks freedom and self-fulfilment, rebellious, and shows a desire to fit into masculine ideals.
Professor Hulk:
Formed in adulthood, meant to be an ideal Bruce Banner with the best traits of the main three alters (Bruce, Savage, and Grey). Genuinely believes himself to be Bruce Banner.
-Protector; formed to protect the body (as well as other people) from more harmful alters like Devil and Guilt.
-Host; formed to be an ideal host that incorporates the 'best traits' from the others, fronted for a long period of time and had primary control over the body.
Suppressed alters
Devil Hulk:
Formed out of Bruces desire for someone to protect him, but influenced by Brians abuse to only show protection through violence and threats.
-Persecutor; attempts to front in order to physically hurt others (something that goes against the wishes of the other alters in his system), intimidates and fights with other alters.
-Protector; seeks to protect the body from outside sources of harm, protected the system from internal threats (the Leader).
Guilt Hulk:
Like many introjects of abusers he likley formed as a way for Bruce to 'better follow the rules' set for him by his abusive father. May also have formed to hold the guilt felt by Bruce due to his abuse and his mothers death.
-Abuser introject; an introject of Brian Banner, Bruce's abusive father. While he does not look like Brian Banner, he still calls himself by the name and takes his place in past memories.
-Persecutor; activley interferes with Bruce's mental health treatment and fights with other alters.
(Disclaimer: DID is a very complex disorder. This is just my interpretation of the specific roles each Hulk alter plays)

I just found out that Bruce Banners mom appears in she-hulk and I am so genuinely upset. The mcu had the chance to bring the hulk to film and with this they have officially ruined that chance (at least in the current continuity). His mom being killed by his father is so incredibly important to his story, and so to remove it is so crazy to me?? What was even the purpose of it?? I could be wrong and they could have just coincidentally done this but I doubt it

Many MCU fanfictions that center around Bruce Banner in a world without powers completely mischaracterize him. While this can also be an issue in fanfics in the regular marvel universe I have seen it be especially bad in ones where the character dont have powers.
There is a lot of basis in the comics (and while it is more subtle in the mcu its still evident but i wont go into that) that Bruce Banner has DID, and the hulk is just a physical representation of his fractured sense of self. Obviously the classic green hulk is the alter most people are familiar with, but Banner also has other alters in the comics (ex. Joe Fixit). Despite this fact, almost no stories I have seen keep this aspect even when removing his 'powers'. This is my preferred interpretation of the character as I feel it is the most accurate. Many times in a world without the hulk as a physical presence, they simply erase him, leaving only Banner.
I understand that there are many reasons someone might not want to tackle writing DID, whether it be that they dont think Bruce is very good representation of the disorder, they do not feel they have the skillset to write it effectivly, or they simply dont interpret his character that way. All of these are good reasons not to give him DID. That is not necessarily my issue, my issue comes when people erase everything that the hulk represented.
The hulk is a physical manifestation of the results of severe childhood trauma. The effects the abuse of his father left on Bruce have not turned him into the perfect victim many want him to be. His reactions are not the stereotypical ones that many have come to expect at this point. Bruce is hyper vigilant of threats, and when he percieves them he reacts violently. He loses his reasoning and lashes out at whatever is trying to hurt him, only to be left with the shame afterward at how he acted. He lives in fear of what he might do if he gets triggered and is afraid of accidentally hurting his loved ones. If you get rid of the hulk as an individual entitiy that is fine, but you cant get rid of 'the hulk', you need to integrate him into Bruce. If you remove these traits from him he is no longer the same character.

I've been seeing this "Republican makeup vs Democrat makeup" thing going around, and while im not going to defend republicans (they deserve every bad thing coming their way) I will say that to me this just seems like outright moralizing attractiveness again.
Not every republican does their makeup like that, just like not every democrat has cool, attractive makeup. Ive seen a couple think pieces on "why Republican women do their makeup like that" and they all fall flat for me. One person said that its because small southern towns are behind on trends, another person said its because of harsh christian standards of purity, but all of that is just people trying to moralize calling people ugly. The truth to it as someone who lives in the south in a very republican area is this: republican women do their makeup like that because they are older white women following outdated trends. Thats it.
The younger conservative women do not do their makeup like that, which I feel should be self-explainitory if you actually think about it. They have acsess to the internet and trends, and for a conservative woman, one of the most important things you have to be is attractive, so why would they do their makeup in the ugliest way possible? The first woman who did this trend had the right idea, she didnt try to moralize or do a think piece, she just said "republicans are ugly and im making fun of them". Take a page out of her book.
