#altlinkedmovies no5 was The Offence from 1973. This is a bloody powerful movie with some gripping dialogue and a great performance from Connery. IMDB says Connery pays a burnt out detective but it's much more than that, he is literally totured by the horrors he has witnessed over his 20 years on the force. So much so that he starts to doubt is morals and his sanity. The Offence surprised me, even though it felt slow in parts I was hooked throughout. The Town from 2010 tells the story of four men from Boston caught up in a life of crime managed by an old school Irish gangster and pushed into crime by a weight of expectation. Tensions grow within the group as Doug (Affleck) makes plans to leave Boston with former hostage Claire (Hall). I thought The Town was good, not great. The hiest genre has delivered some fantastic results over the years and the idea for this movie was interesting enough but it was delivered in a rush which left me septical at the motivations of the key characters. Two of the four felt unconnected to the story and Coughlin (Renner) was so intense that it seemed forced. This movie has some amazing action and chase scenes that are well worth watching. Flashpoint from 1984 is a great little film about two disgruntled border guards who discover a large sum of money, a huge conspiracy and a whole heap of trouble. Flashpoint has a great cast, I was especially pleased to see the great Kurtwood Smith aka Clarence Boddicker. I LOVED!! Don't Kill it from #2016 with the living legend that is #dolphlundgren. Now that could be because I was sat with some very good friends after a good gut full of beer or maybe because it's just awesome! Dolph plays a grizzled and world weary demon hunter, hot on the trail of a particularly troublesome beast which terrorising a small town. I thought the premise of the demon jumping into the person who killed it was brilliant. This film has the perfect amounts of action, cheese and story to cook up a tasty flick. It also has some wicked kills. #headpop. Although I now know I've watched the sequel first, I enjoyed Riddick. Aside from the occasion terrible CGI and over the top macho acting I felt it was a solid A to B story executed well. The narration was slightly irritating but necessary to keep the runtime acceptable. The creatures were great and really formidable (not for Riddick though😂) and the planet definitely felt desolate. I just had to have this on vinyl. The mysterious is it really a movie Street Force. Whether it is actually a movie or not the soundtrack is brilliant. The lord's of the flatbush is a cheerful coming of age story about four friends who form a small gang in 1970s Brooklyn. The movie ended up being a lot tamer than I expected but that in no way diminishes the story telling of the true to life struggles of young men coming to terms wth their inevitable responsibility. With a young Sylvester Stallone and Henry Winkler the are some heart warming exchanges to balance the tension nicely and the ending left me smiling at their hope for the future. Which came first Demon Wind or Evil Dead? Well it was Evil Dead but Demon Wind wants you to forget that and the ridiculous over acting and storytelling. At no point did I feel any connection to the reason behind Corey's plight. That said Denom Wind is definitely worth watching for the laughs. There are some side splitting moments in this film including a roundhouse kick to a demons head. This week amongst moving house I managed to squeeze in Silver Bullet from 1985. I enjoyed the straight forward and quite obvious movie. It has some good moments and is well paced. The chemistry between uncle Red (Busey) and Marty (Haim) is the formula which makes this movie tick and who can say no to a firework fired into a werewolf's eyeball!
