you were kidding. everyone knew you weren’t serious when you posted boyfriend applications on your socials. it started all because your friend suggested boyfriend applications after you were complaining about all your friends having significant others and you were the only one who was still single.

what was serious, though, was the number of messages random boys sent you about the applications. you never bothered to answer because you thought they were all joking at first. however, they kept asking your friends if it was real, convincing you that not everyone knows you’re joking.

“you do know that my applications are fake, right?” you’re confirming with soonyoung, one of your friends, in the library in the middle of a group study session with your other friends.

“okay, wait, so if it’s fake, why did you post it anyway?” he queries, puzzled as to why you did it—to which even you aren’t too sure why.

“it was a joke! everyone knew that—well, not everyone. so many of your friends kept spamming my phone about it, you say as you show him the unread replies from his friends.

he looks at you with a disgusted expression. “(name), you do realize that if men who can’t get a girlfriend see that a single, pretty girl like you jokingly posts boyfriend applications, they’re going to seriously apply.”

“are you guys talking about (name)’s boyfriend applications?” jun asks as he sits next to soonyoung, who nods in response.

a few of your other friends chime in on the conversation. “hey, i heard so many guys were trying to apply,” mingyu brings up. “did you pick any of them?”

you stay silent, pretending to think of an answer, but in reality, you’re looking around your surroundings. all your friends that are studying with you happen to be the friends that have romantic partners. the only ones left are you and soonyoung.

you look at soonyoung, then look down at his hand. grabbing onto it and holding it up, you announced, “soonyoung! he applied,” you lied. your friends began to tease the both of you, calling you two a perfect pair.

“didn’t know i was your boyfriend now?” he whispers, teasing you as well.

“gosh, just play along with it,” you huff, lightly pushing him.

i’ve always hated the amount of lesbian/bisexual discourse, but what drove me over the edge was the new obsession people apparently have with whether or not certain trans people can be lesbians. ignoring the fact that people’s lives and identities are far more complex than a simple word (most of the time), why the fuck is it any of your business???? it’s incredibly naive to me to think that someone’s identity should revolve around whether or not it “contradicts” or fits into the neat little boxes that make sense to cishet people (god forbid someone makes us look bad 🥺🥺🥺🥺)

there are infinitely more important things as a community we should be focused on, like actual harm being done to queer but specifically trans people politically, and yet this is what people focus on

Yamato says he's a man. You can just listen to him and accept that he's a man. You don't need to come up with a whole ass new theory of gender for this, you don't need to pull out the conspiracy board, it's okay.

i wish i had a cool story about figuring out my gender identity but unfortunately what actually happened was i was applying to grad programs and when i got to the part where you enter your gender identity i was like. hey wait a second. i don't know how to answer this. and then i shrugged my shoulders and went "idk that probably means i'm nonbinary or agender or something" and moved on with my life. and now i'm applying to phd programs and filling out the demographics part again like oh shit i never got around to figuring out my gender identity whoops

I've seen the question asked a few times of "should I tell my partner/roommate/family/friends/boss/coworkers/etc. I have <insert disorder here>?" And while I don't believe in telling people what to do, I do believe in giving advice when I can. Whether the person takes my advice to heart is up to them.

In any case, I think it's important to consider the following factors when trying to make that decision for yourself:

How much do you trust this person?

How much do you trust this person to use this information in a productive way?

How much do you distrust this person and believe they may use this information to harm you or use it against you in any way?

How much time do you spend with this person in your day-to-day life?

How often will your disorder affect your relationship with this person?

How severely or intensely will your disorder affect this person when an "episode" happens?

If/when an "episode" occurs around this person, do you trust that they will respond in a respectful way?

How willing are you to educate this person on your disorder?

How much about your disorder are you willing to share with this person?

If you're not willing to share everything with this person, what are you willing to share with them? (ie. instead of saying "I have ADHD" you may say "I have trouble with focus and attention", or instead of saying "I have DID" you may instead say "I have PTSD" or even "I have memory issues")

Will this person take time to research and understand your disorder on their own, and how much effort are they willing to put into that?

Are you accepting of them asking further questions about your disorder and/or holding conversations about your disorder with them? Do you believe that they will ask you questions if they have any?

How will your relationship change when this person knows about your disorder?

If you believe the person to react negatively, are you prepared for any potential consequences? (Breakup, getting disowned, losing your job, etc.)

What do you gain from disclosing your disorder to this person?

What do you lose from disclosing your disorder to this person?

What are you hoping to achieve my disclosing your disorder to this person?

How important is it for you to have this person know that you have this disorder?

These are just a starting point for anyone who may be questioning sharing information about themselves with the people around them, and there's so many other points to consider. But if you have a decent handle on the answers to these questions, you will have a better understanding for yourself what you want to share, with whom, and how much of it to share.
