This is the first post in a series of four about the 118 firehouse on 9-1-1, including floor plans, screen shots, and detailed discussion.
The other posts in this series: Part One | Part Two | Part Three | Part Four
My other floor plans: Diaz House | Buck's Loft | Madney House
They're also on my Ao3
Overview
Broadly speaking I’ll start by talking about the actual building, then move on to discuss the model I built, then I’ll go into detail by section/room, starting with the stuff I’m absolutely certain about, then stuff that’s less cut and dry, and finally stuff that’s purely theoretical at this point, along with some extras.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here we have a bird's eye view of the entire thing, both upstairs and downstairs. There will be additional close up bird's eye views of each individual section when I discuss them in detail throughout the posts.
The Real Building
First, let’s talk about the actual real life building that they film in. The firehouse set lives in a converted warehouse in Glendale, which makes that line from The Bachelor scene in s7e04 an extremely funny (to me) meta joke.
As for dimensions, the building is 60 feet wide and roughly 165 feet long. She’s big y’all. For scale, here are both Eddie and Buck’s living spaces inside the firehouse:
Tumblr media
Below are some grungy google maps exterior shots for your viewing pleasure. I’m particularly delighted by the graffiti on the front garage door that reads: Don’t call 911. BAKE! (wake & bake)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's here that I need to be pedantic about the roof. As you can see, this building has a sloped roof. That little smaller bit that pokes out the top is called a monitor and it allows for clerestory windows to let daylight into the full length of the building. This sloped roof is held up inside by massive wood trusses which feature very prominently in many of the interior shots. Below are some example screen shots. I have passive aggressively highlighted the slope of the interior roof. Also, you can see the monitor roof with all the windows in it.
Tumblr media
Obviously they cannot hang out in lawn chairs on top of this roof. They film all the roof scenes at the Fox studios lot. You can tell by the surrounding buildings visible in the background of those shots. Note Fox Plaza (the Die Hard building) behind Athena below.
Tumblr media
Additionally, it’s not always the same roof. I’ve highlighted two of the buildings I’m certain or mostly certain about below. I also labeled Stage 6 toward the top left of the image, which was the 9-1-1 sound stage through season 8.
Tumblr media
I have a mental workaround that allows me to reconcile these conflicting roof situations that I’ll explain in depth toward the end of all this, because it’s also relevant to a couple other things too.
Also, this isn’t relevant to anything really, but I need to say that at no point in this entire process did I notice any evidence of climate control systems in the building, and there also appears to be zero insulation. So I cannot imagine this place is comfortable to film in a lot of the time. They seem to always have huge fans in bts videos during the summer, and I imagine it’s pretty chilly in there during winter filming. Thank god for the temperate Los Angeles weather, I suppose.
The Exterior
Tumblr media
As far as the exterior goes, three sides of the building are exposed, and one wall is shared with the building next door.
The front facade in the show is mostly red brick and is completely computer generated. There’s a side alleyway that has like an engine hoist or something? I am not a mechanical expert. Sometimes the hose racks are out there, etc.
Also, when Buck was going insane and ordering basketballs to the station and suggesting they get a hoop, I could have sworn they already had one in the side alley, and sure enough, I wasn’t insane. It’s there in the background of Hen Begins. I guess canonically, it's gone by the time Buck’s losing his marbles, but at least I have proof I didn’t lose mine.
Tumblr media
Around the back is an extremely tall wall covered with greenery. There’s also a few trees and other planters and what seems to be a pretty nice sitting area with concrete benches, but those might belong to the building next door.
Tumblr media
About The 3D Model I Built
I built the model in a program called Chief Architect. I first started this project in *checks notes* March?? of 2022. However, then it kind of fell by the wayside for a while, gathering digital dust. When I started working on it in earnest again last year, I added updated screen shots to my reference files up through s7e05. So the model I built is accurate through that point.
Things like wall decor and various props will not necessarily match to current seasons. But they change that stuff pretty regularly between seasons anyway, so it’s not technically fully accurate to any one season.
There’s really not much that’s different in s8, so it’s not a big deal, but, where relevant, I’ve noted a few things I’ve noticed off hand while watching the episodes as they aired.
The dimensions and angles of everything are reasonably accurate. And the roof trusses are accurate to their location within the building and their height off the floor, but I let the program auto-generate all the cross beams and I left a lot of detail above that out, like the monitor roof and the lighting.
Also, I didn’t build anything that we haven’t actually seen. So those three corners of the building downstairs are just shown as big empty rooms. Are there walls and rooms in there? Probably! Can I show you them? Nope! I've seen glimpses through some of those doors in bts videos, and it seems like they store equipment in those sections irl.
Tumblr media
Next up, in depth exploration of the upstairs sections.
Continue to part two...

MEDUSA ASTEROID 149
(aka my origin story and yours too, probably)
Tumblr media
Before she was mythologized into a monster, Medusa was a mortal woman. A priestess in Athena’s temple. When Poseidon assaulted her, the gods didn’t protect her—they punished her. Turned her into a creature with serpents for hair, a gaze that could turn men to stone.
But what if that wasn’t the curse… what if that was the gift?
Medusa became the embodiment of rage, power, and survival. Her punishment made her untouchable. She’s what happens when someone’s pain transforms into armor. Into truth. Into myth.
Asteroid Medusa (149) in your natal chart shows:
🦂 where your power was punished or twisted
🧿 where others projected fear or shame onto you
🔥 where you’re reclaiming a sacred part of yourself
🐍 where your beauty, voice, body, or truth threatened the system
Tumblr media
Medusa Through the Houses:
1st House Medusa:
I existed and that alone was too loud. People tried to shrink me before I even spoke. I didn’t need a curse to turn them to stone—just presence.
2nd House Medusa:
I was taught to feel guilty for wanting things. For loving beauty, comfort, luxury, survival. But my worth isn’t a sin. I’m the jewel they buried. I still shine.
3rd House Medusa:
My voice was “too sharp.” I’ve been punished for how I speak, write, think. But I wasn’t being cruel. I was being clear. My words bite because they’re honest.
4th House Medusa:
I learned early that love came with a price. That home wasn’t always safe. My pain became sacred. My roots carry thunder, and I bloom from the storm.
5th House Medusa:
They tried to shame my joy. My art. My sexuality. My expression. But I was never here to be quiet. I was born to create through fire.
6th House Medusa:
The world expected me to heal in private and labor in silence. I turned the grind into ritual. The routine into rebellion. And I keep surviving—beautifully.
7th House Medusa:
In love, I became the mirror. They saw themselves too clearly and called me dangerous. But I don’t apologize for what I reflect anymore.
8th House Medusa:
They sexualized me, feared me, wanted to own me, and then blamed me. I walked through every underworld. Now I hold the keys.
9th House Medusa:
I asked questions they didn’t want to answer. I saw beyond borders, rules, religion. My truth doesn’t need approval. It needs wings.
10th House Medusa:
They tried to control the narrative. Make me the villain in my own story. But I reclaimed the myth. Now I walk through rooms they swore I’d never enter.
11th House Medusa:
I never belonged. Not really. But I learned to lead from the outskirts. I don’t need a throne—I’m building altars in the dark.
12th House Medusa:
They tried to erase me. Said I was crazy, too much, too sensitive. But even forgotten women rise. I became a legend in the silence.
Tumblr media
I have Medusa in Sagittarius in my 7th House, sitting right on my Descendant. So trust that I know what it’s like to be blamed for showing people the truth of who they are. But I don’t shapeshift anymore just to keep others comfortable.
🐍✨ Tag your Medusa placement. What house is she in? What did they shame you for? What are you reclaiming now?

Why I’m confident that El was willed into existence…
Tumblr media
In a show that frequently references superheroes, alter egos, clones, “subs”titutes, and swapping places…
Is it truly that far fetched to believe that our main “hero” is actually the boy who likes to hide in disguise all along?
In other words, let me explain the evidence that Will created El and what it means for the ending of the show.
I’ll begin by saying that even back when I was a GA watching the show, I sensed that there has always been a supernatural connection between the two of them.
Think about it. Will vanishes, El first appears then El vanishes and Will re-appears. They “swap places”. Will is “good at hiding” and thus El takes over as the lead.
El is a masculine girl (at least power-wise), while Will is a feminine boy. They are connected but yet within the show they aren’t that close? Sure they’re “siblings” now but the writers made a choice not to focus on building up their relationship/bond. In fact, we see them continuously being separated from each other. This conveys a subtle message to the audience:
They cannot co-exist.
They both take up the same role within the show. Let me explain…
Let’s start with similarities between Will and El
Both are around the same age
Both are quiet
Both have a mother who is loving yet distant and both mothers are implied to have mental health issues and are heavily paralleled.
Both have a complicated and ab*sive relationship with their father/“papa”
Both are associated with powers
Both have been victims of bullies
Both have trauma and struggled with their emotions
Both are associated with repressed memories
Both are romantic love interests for Mike
Both are heavily connected with the supernatural
etc etc…
Let’s talk symbolism…
I’ve mentioned this many times before but the writers have subtly used the explosion of “Little Boy” the atomic bomb as a metaphor for Will’s disappearance.
“Little Boy” is Will Byers himself. The real “Little Boy” bomb caused a nuclear fission reaction. Fission means to “split in two”. We also have the Phineas Gage metaphor that conveys splitting of the brain.
Tumblr media
On top of this, in the flashback of El opening the gate for the first time, we see the Demogorgon feasting on an egg. When El sees this, we see cracks appear and the gate opens. The egg cracks. This is further implied with this line:
Tumblr media
If the hair is a nest, the egg is the head. The head “split”/cracked open. Like an egg, the head hatched… which implies a birth!
Notice how they chose an “owl” out of all birds? Owls are associated with wisdom, and the Greek Goddess Athena. How was Athena born, you ask?
Tumblr media
Zeus had a “splitting” headache and then Athena was born from his head.
”Splitting” is also a term within Dissociative Identity Disorder when a new alter/personality emerges. Alters are often seen as “superheroes” as they often protect the host/the system from experiencing trauma. They take over, and “swap places” with the host/other alters. There are common alters roles within a DID system, and one of them is called “The Gatekeeper”.
“The Gatekeeper” controls access to the gate, and to the memories (sound familiar?)…
Tumblr media
To add to the “splitting” analogy, we have multiple references to El being “half” and not “whole”. Notice how she’s “twice” as happy with Will present, after being “half”way happy? Two halves = a whole.
Another planet/different species
We have many references to the UD being another planet. If the UD is another planet, all those who inhabit said planet are a “different species” or rather, aliens.
As we all know, El is heavily inspired by “E.T.”, a famous alien character. When she comes to “Earth”/the right side up, she is, essentially, an alien. She doesn’t fit in because this is not her world.
Tumblr media
El was even paralleled to D’Art who, as we know, was a “new species” that literally came from Will’s head!
Tumblr media
D'Art is a "new species" and El and Max are a "different species" aka "material girls". This implies that they all were created.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They aren't from Earth but instead they're from "another planet". We are given a hint to this in the shot above on the left. A globe (Earth) near another round sphere (Will's head...)
Relevant Media References Within the Show
Within the show, we have many references to other media- specifically media that contains a character with an alter-ego.
Tumblr media
Superman is the simplest one to explain, so I’ll start with that. As we know, Mike said El was “Superman”, and that he was “Lois Lane”, prior to Will expressing his love for Mike using El’s name. The writers chose to reference Superman for a reason and it’s not just because El has powers or that Mike is gay. We are supposed to connect the dots and conclude that:
Will is Superman’s alter-ego: Clark Kent. The seemingly nerdy ordinary guy who loves Lois Lane but who is (secretly) Superman.
Tumblr media
(Read the line from Lois above, it is incredibly relevant to Will and El)
Another commonly referenced movie within ST is The Neverending Story.
Tumblr media
(Atreyu looks into the mirror and sees Bastian…)
The similarities between Bastian (bullied bowl cut boy) and Will are fairly obvious, as well as the similarities between Atreyu (the hero) and El. Well, it turns out that Atreyu was actually Bastian the whole time.
X-Men has also been referenced within the show.
Tumblr media
Will asks Dustin for "X-Man 134" in the very first episode. This comic is significant because it was the first appearance of "Dark Phoenix".
In the book the Dark Phoenix is accidentally unleashed by the Mastermind who is tinkering around in Jean's brain trying to unlock the full potential of her powers. x
I argue that the "Mastermind" is actually Will himself who unleashed El into the world. He cast "fireball" unleashing El, the phoenix.
That's not the only X-Men clue however...
In the original Montauk script, it was X-Men 269 that Will asked Dustin for.
@threemanoperation made an excellent post about that here.
There are clear references to gateways and "splitting" which are incredibly relevant to this theory.
Karen's Novels
Tumblr media
In this scene, Karen is reading a book called “Tender is the Storm”. In that book, there’s a surprise twist at the end:
Tumblr media
These two "twins" that the main character is torn over end up being the same person.
Now keep in mind, the previous novel Karen reads also has clear relevance/foreshadowing. Credit below goes to @/kaypeace21, her post is here.
Tumblr media
Sound familiar?
Hawkins Lab/Tunnels
Tumblr media
Tunnels are something that we see a lot of... especially in Will's drawings in ST2. He draws tunnels from his mind... it's his mind map.
So... El came from Hawkins Lab, and escaped through these tunnels.
Hawkins Lab...
There's lots of subtle clues that "Hawkins" is metaphorically Will. Let me explain...
Tumblr media
"Hawkins" is still healing from the gate being opened = "Will" is still healing from the gate being opened.
"But some of him is here, too. In me. It's like... it's like he's reaching into Hawkins [me] more and more." - Will
"Hawkins" isn't the same without Will because "Hawkins" *is* Will!
So El came from "Hawkins" lab = El came from "Will's" lab.
A laboratory is a place where things are created.
Tumblr media
The mind is a "prison" as Papa states. Then we have Hopper and Henry comparing Hawkins Lab to a "prison"/El being a “prisoner”.
El is a prisoner of the mind…
Thus we can conclude: Hawkins Lab is Will's mind, and that is where El came from.
She was a prisoner of his unpleasant and traumatized mind who managed to escape into the real world.
El's Memories
The biggest question is... if El came from Will's mind, how does she have her own memories?
The answer to this is fairly simple:
El has Will's memories...
Tumblr media
A major clue of this is in ST2. In a flashback, we see Hopper teach El Morse Code. Later on within the same season, we see that Will knows Morse Code...
Now I know this sounds like a stretch for some, but the major reason why is because we know so little of Will's past explicitly.
We have never seen Will and his father Lonnie directly interact. But through many many clues we can infer that Lonnie had a profoundly negative effect on Will. Not only was he obviously homophobic and a deadbeat father... but many clues point to him being so much worse. I talk about much more in this post.
Tumblr media
"Papa" may not be real, but rather a manifestation/altered version of Will's father.
Tumblr media
In one of the comics, we see a clear parallel here between El and Papa and Will and Lonnie. The father shutting out the child and ignoring their cries.
Perhaps the biggest clue of El having Will's memories, however, comes from 4x02.
Tumblr media
Lets break this down:
In ST1, Jonathan tells us that his father forced him to kill a rabbit on his birthday and it was traumatic for him.
In ST2, March 22 is established as Will's birthday and we are told by Owens that "The anniversary of an event can bring back traumatic memories."
In ST4, we are told that "our brains protect us from trauma" by repressing memories.
In ST4, Will's birthday (the anniversary) is forgotten (repressed memories).
In ST4, on March 22, El has flashbacks to a massacre... and the song "Wipe Out" plays. "Wipe Out" can mean two things: to kill (a rabbit?) and to eliminate something completely (memories).
So... with all of that knowledge... wouldn't you say that it's interesting that El has traumatic memories on Will's birthday?
I think it's fair to conclude that:
Will experienced something very traumatic related to his father on his birthday (March 22), and he has repressed the memories. El, as the "Gatekeeper Alter"/superhero protecting Will/the system, has access to Will's memories.
Gatekeepers control access to specific memories or protected alters and can, in some cases, prevent unwanted switching. These alters aid in preventing traumatic memories from escaping from the alters who control them, thus throwing up amnesiac walls to protect the whole system. x
Which is why in the NINA plot line, it was all about El retrieving back memories... Will's memories. Or rather, altered versions of his memories.
Tumblr media
Just to re-affirm the point that Will does not have his own memories... we were gifted with this subtle clue.
"Larry" is a nickname for Lawrence/Laurence. Lonnie is also a nickname for Lawrence/Laurence. So basically:
Will doesn't remember Lonnie. Or rather, he only vaguely remembers Lonnie.
El has Will's memories of Lonnie, and we see them through her flashbacks with "Papa".
This is exactly why we never see Lonnie or rather rarely have any direct mentions of him within the show. He is a deeply repressed memory.
I could go on about this because there are tons more hidden clues but this post will get FAR too long.
Why did Will create Eleven?
Wherever you go, the number 11 seems to find you - this is an angel number. x (credit to @thestrangestthing89 for pointing this out).
To answer this question very simply: Will created El as a replacement for himself. She was his "guardian angel" to protect him from his trauma, but also to erase him.
We really do not discuss this enough, but Will has crippling self-esteem issues! That's why he's so selfless and that's why he always tries to hide. He doesn't believe he's worthy of... anything.
El is a strong, brave, and socially acceptable version of himself. She has superpowers and she can be with Mike, because she's a girl. It'd be acceptable.
But over time we see that El could never replace Will, nor does she want to! El replacing Will causes everyone to be miserable. Will, Mike, his family, and El herself.
How it may be explained within the show
So, DID itself was not a term that existed within the 1980s, it was called "Multiple Personality Disorder". My guess, however, is that they will not use any specific medical term. They will, instead, use a DnD term:
"Changeling" x
According to folklore, a changeling was a substitute left by a supernatural being when kidnapping a human being. x
Tumblr media
After Will vanished, El, a supernatural being, appeared in the same place. This whole time El was a "changeling"/substitute for Will.
El's Ending
El's ending has been a hot topic as of recently, for a good reason. People are scared she'll be killed off and express their discontentment with that. Will she be killed off?
Not exactly. Let me explain.
El is E.T., an alien who ends up returning back to their own world. The same thing will happen to El. As I explained, El came from Will's mind, and she will return to Will's mind! This will be her own choice, because she's not adapting to the real world. It's been a constant loop for her, and she's not happy. She hasn't felt like she belonged.
She's tired of being forced into roles that aren't her own.
El and Will will "combine" via fusion. This is where the "Little Boy" metaphor for Will returns. El came into the world via "fission" (splitting) and will return via "fusion" (combining back into Will).
The important thing to note here is that she will not "die".
Tumblr media
As Henry states, she will live on in the mind. Most likely, a much more pleasant version of the UD. My guess is her ending will be similar to Frodo's at the end of Lord of the Rings.
Tumblr media
(Notice how she disappears into Will? That's obviously intentional visual foreshadowing).
I have even more to say on this but this post has been long enough!
What are your thoughts?

At the end of everything Percy chooses to be on Luke's side, not Kronos's, not the gods' but Luke's. Luke, who was just a kid forced to grow up too soon, Luke, who has been angry his whole life, forced to protect people he cared about without any resources, forced to go on the run, forced to flee to a place that's supposed to be safe only to find out it reeks of generations of kids who were abused and mistreated by parents who didn't care, taught that love was transactional, taught that glory is everything and forced to reach for an impossible standard of glory to achieve that love.
I think ultimately Percy is the child of the prophecy because he was taught from a very young age that love should be unconditional, but he also learned from a young age that not all love is. He WAS Luke. The same anger towards the gods, the same desperate need for change, the same feelings of helplessness. Luke sees himself in Percy, and I think part of the reason Percy made the choice to give Luke the knife is because he sees himself in Luke. Everything Luke has ever said about the gods, about demigods, about the system, Percy has said those same things. Out loud.
The difference is that Luke consistently chose anger over love. From the very beginning of his story, he compromised the safety of those he was supposed to protect by picking fights, and he turned to a darker force to combat the helplessness of his existence, maybe he still cared about Annabeth and about family at the beginning but it didn't take much time for that to change. He discards Annbeth's life; the one person he promised to stand by and protect, he's careless with the lives of other half-bloods, he's cruel.
I love the effort that they are making in the show to portray Percy as a mirror to Luke from the very beginning, way before new viewers even know what's going to happen at the end. Percy is saying, "The gods have done nothing for me, they have done nothing but hurt the people I care about, we would be better off without them". Luke is undoubtedly the villain and the choices he made were his own, but at the same time, he was just a kid who felt helpless and alone. Because of that, he chose the anger he felt towards the gods over the love he had for his family, and that's where Percy is different.
Athena once said to Percy that he would let the world burn just to save a friend. His love and his loyalty are so strong that he couldn't sacrifice anyone he cared about if it meant saving the world. Unrealistic or not, there is something beautiful about the idea of someone who cares enough about you to think that a world without you in it isn't a world worth saving at all.
Kronos tries to paint loyalty, family ties and love as a weakness, when we all know that it was the only thing that had any power against him. Luke allows himself to be corrupted to the point where he sees those things as weaknesses as well until Kronos loses everything because of one little girl and what she represents. Annabeth's reminder of Luke's promise was the one thing that gave him enough strength to take control. The reminder that he loved someone and that he promised to be her family has the power to break him from the control of the most powerful evil.
It's the reminder of the love he had before he chose anger that gives him the strength to defeat that anger. And it's the love he always had for the demigods seeping back in that gives him the strength to stay alive long enough for Percy to promise to protect them.
I don't know that he would have had the strength to destroy Kronos without the knowledge that Percy would be there to finish the fight that he had lost sight of. He spent years fighting Percy, and he watched him choose the half-bloods over and over again, Luke saw how much anger he had, and saw him choose love instead. Luke knew that Percy would be able to do something that he had never been able to do, choose to protect the people he loves before hurting the people he hates. Everything Luke did, he did to punish the gods for the way they treated their kids, and everything Percy did, he did to protect those kids. Luke couldn't have destroyed Kronos if he didn't know that someone who cared about those kids as much as he did would be there to protect them the way he tried and failed to.

children of ares
• it’s more difficult to break a weapon in a child of war’s hand (with the exception being if someone was a child of the big three).
• they can pull of any shade of red.
• camo EVERYTHING. they just have a weird obsession with camo.
• a lot of them obsessively collect sneakers.
• they have nicknames/call signs for all their members, they don't choose one when they join, it'll be given to them sooner or later.
• leather jackets, military boots, aviators, chains, chokers and metal rings are the norm.
• there's always that one kid that likes to show off their butterfly knife tricks. (i’m sorry if that’s you.)
• every one of them has a scar somewhere, usually they got it even before they came to camp. they treat scars like tattoos—the bigger and more obvious they are, the more badass they are.
• all the armies on the loosing side are forced to serve them and their father so they can summon them at a time of battle and increase their power by invoking their father’s powers.
• they’re the best fighters in camp, but that doesn't mean all they have is physical strength.
• they have the strength to stand their ground and defend a point that is so strongly that many of them become outstanding politicians.
• they don't just teach people how to fight monsters, but they also basic self-defence for anyone who feels unsafe in the city.
• the tradition of capture the flag initially started as a dispute between the ares and athena cabin, with the other camps joining one of the two.
• it has always been a ceremony for the two cabins to always be against each other.
• they all have excellent posture because they’re always training, so they’re always wearing breastplates. (i’m assume breastplates improve your posture the same way corsets do).
• rumor has it there's an underground fight club that's invite-only (but you didn't hear that from me).
•those who have a taken a vow of nonviolence run an anger management group for their siblings who want to gain a little more control.

cabin exterior
• the cabin has a rugged, fortress-like appearance, with sturdy stone walls that seem built to withstand a siege. the front door is made of reinforced steel, adorned with battle scars and dents.
• it also has heavy punk rock aesthetics, which is ironic considering how much discipline is enforced within its members.
• various weapons, such as swords, spears, and shields, are displayed prominently on the walls, either as decoration or trophies from past battles. some are enchanted to glow faintly, adding an aura of intimidation.
• the cabin is adorned with tattered banners and flags, each representing a different battle or conquest. the ares symbol, a wild boar or a spear, is prominently displayed.
• the walls are covered in graffiti and markings made by the cabin members, depicting their victories, names, and personal symbols. these give the cabin a rough, lived-in look.
• the cabin itself might show signs of past conflicts, with scorch marks, cracks, and patched-up sections that hint at the intensity of the cabin's training sessions and disputes.
• at the entrance, there are statues of ares himself, standing guard and setting the tone for those who enter.
• the stuffed boar head at the front of the cabin acts as a surveillance system, it’s enchanted to squeal when there are intruders.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
cabin interior
• the cabin has a minimalist, utilitarian design, with few decorations and a focus on functionality. the beds are simple, sturdy cots, and personal belongings are kept to a minimum.
• the bunks are arranged in a regimented, military style, with each camper's area neatly organized. personal spaces include a footlocker for storing gear and a small, sturdy nightstand.
• ac/dc is constantly playing in the background?
• every available wall space is utilized for weapon racks and shelves, holding an array of swords, spears, axes, and shields.
• the cabin has an area dedicated to training, with punching bags, weights, and practice dummies. there is even be a small sparring ring in one corner for indoor practice.
• various trophies from past battles and quests are displayed inside the cabin, including weapons, monster teeth, claws, and other memorabilia. these serve as a testament to the cabin's prowess in combat.
• large maps detailing various battlefields and strategic locations are pinned to the walls. they have markers and notes, reflecting ongoing planning and strategies.
• the interior features rough, durable materials like stone and wood, designed to withstand heavy use and combat-related activities. the floors are covered in animal skins and thick, worn rugs.
Tumblr media
cabin traditions
• for every child of war that has died in battle, a spear bearing their name is placed on the roof of the cabin.
• they have a ritual where members show off their battle scars and share stories of how they got them, celebrating their bravery and toughness.
• they have regular evenings dedicated to cleaning, sharpening, and maintaining their weapons and armor, often accompanied by storytelling or strategizing.
• they have CONSTANT meetings where they plan strategies for capture the flag and other camp activities, often held in a militaristic fashion with a focus on tactics and leadership.
• they have regular sparring sessions where they challenge each other to friendly duels to improve their skills and rank within the cabin.
• before major events like capture the flag, they paint their faces and arms with war paint as a symbol of their readiness for battle and to intimidate their opponents.

Darkseid considers adopting space emperor Tim as one of his children and potential heirs, it wouldn't be the first time he's adopted a human after all and this little one is doing such a good job taking over the galaxy...
Tim is not particularly happy at this idea because he is emancipated for a reason! For many reasons! He tried the parent thing (Jack and Janet) it sucked, he's not interested in another round. He's also not interested in B getting his tights in a bunch because B has the idea that he's Tim's father (ha!) and gets grumpy that someone else is trying to take the position of Tim's father (Tim has no father, Tim likes to pretend he just sprung from Gotham like Athena sprung from Zeus) challenge Darkseid, and then B will end up taking another swim in the time stream that Tim will have to fish him out of again
Also at least one or more of the planets that Space Emperor Tim controls is advanced enough in biology and medicine and may have even had enough previous interactions with humans that upon the discovery that their beloved baby emperor is missing a rather important organ (some imperial physician is getting very fired for breaking hippa or they would except Tim discovers that the planet that sourced his imperial physician doesn't have hippa), they develop a way to get Tim a new one. Tim looks over the research and allows this, he does not tell the bats at home that he has a new spleen.
There's so many fun and great ideas for this!
I absolutely love a feral anti-parenting Tim. He should be running or fist-fighting at the first sign of someone trying to parent him (he's been somewhat independent and making up his own rules/parenting for so long [yes, I know the Drakes were better than how fanon portrays them. That doesn't change that his parenting was long distanced and enforced by boarding schools. That doesn't change the whack ass shit he did pre-Robin and during his Robin years despite having parents]. He should be anti-authority. He makes his rules and only takes suggestions). The idea of people trying to parent Tim as he backs away from them is hilarious to me. That should be his attitude to parenting: seeing it as an unwanted restriction and needless micromanaging.
Also, the spleen part is great! If the Bats knew about his spleen being missing (and not being replaced), Tim would try to refuse antibiotics from them. They would probably get very very angry and lecture him on his lack of ability to take care of himself.
On the other hand, here's a situation I think would be more hilarious:
Tim, who had just gotten injured in a really filthy place, and him shrugging at the circumstances. He's also silently thanking his planets for their medical technology.
Someone who knows about Tim's missing spleen (so Pru or Tam) starts freaking out about Tim. They think he's going to die because his poor immune system probably won't be able to handle the definite infection to come.
The Bats, who don't know Tim's spleen was missing at one point, get hella confused why this person is freaking out. Maybe Tim is concussed or drugged or something so his ability to communicate is diminished as well.
This leads to the Bats finding out that Tim's spleen was missing and then replaced at the same time.
I hope Pru or Tam (whoever is chosen) punches Tim for not keeping them updated on the replaced spleen. Tim honestly just forgot about it and didn't mean to keep it a secret

I'm assigning the houses in The Locked Tomb to The Fears from The Magnus Archives. Like, obviously The End for the overall series, and The Stranger works for basically any of them (that doesn't stop me for justifying The Stranger extensively for a lot of them, because I didn't go into this not counting it like The End, I just realized the pattern as I went.). But ignoring those, what fears govern the individual series?
I'll give context where I think it's necessary. Spoilers for all of tlt, and the first 4 seasons of tma, (and a little bit of the 5th but that bit is clearly labeled). Except for the one bit that I labeled separately, most tma spoilers are for world building and lore, not individual characters. I'll be going into some, but not all, of the characters within the Houses, when I think they're especially interesting. This whole thing is rambly, and I'm writing it in Google Docs, on my phone, just jumping back and forth from one topic or another, so I apologize if it's unreadable. Also, I haven't watch The Magnus Protocol. I'm waiting until my tma hyperfixation ebbs so I can truly enjoy it instead of just being disappointed every time it's not literally identical to tma. So no spoilers please! If theirs context you want to give from The Magnus Protocol, you can reblog with it, just give me a warning before you actually say anything please!
The First House: The Extinction, definitely. If that doesn't count because it's not a ‘real fear’ or whatever, I think The Stranger, with the lyctors and being in the wrong body and all, or perhaps. But I see The Stranger for like all of them. It could just be The End, as an encapsulation of the fact that The End governs over the entire house system. Could be The Vast or The Desolation I guess? But those are just the two I had left after talking about all the others somewhere else.
The Second: The Hunt. Because cops. Generally, The Hunt feels like a bit more of an orderly and controlled version of The Slaughter, and The Second represents the leadership and rank aspects of the military, as opposed to the foot shoulders of The Fourth. I kinda see it as the Athena vs Ares divide. (Even if The Hunt would technically be neither of them, but Artemis.)
The Third: The Flesh, for obvious reasons, and The Stranger (as in almost all the houses). but also the Spiral. I almost didn't see The Spiral, attributing it too the Stranger imagery that is absolutely everywhere in this series. It fits, because of both Ianthe and Corona’s identity struggle, the uncanny valley sense I get from both of their physical appearances, and a theory I saw online about Cyrus and Valancy body hopping. But I also think The Spiral works, because of Helen, specifically. (Spoiler for MAG 187 for the rest of this paragraph). I was looking at the poem, and Third is specifically associated with ‘The glimmer of a jewel or a smile.’ The Third is associated specifically with false smiles, with masks. I was going to put that as more evidence for The Stranger, but what it actually matches, is Jon's assessment of the true nature of Helen, The Distortion in 187. The question ‘what lurks behind a smile.’ his quote on the matter is telling. “You worked to hurt us and help us, all with the same smile, until we can barely tell one from the other. Keeping us off-balance, constantly second-guessing our own opinions of you. Never quite crossing a line we could never forgive, but never putting yourself on the line either." This matches very well with Ianthe’s characterization. She's this confusing, manipulative friend to Harrow, but still is in love with her. Yet she's also perfectly willing to let Harrow die to keep the tomb closed in NtN. She sucks up to Augustine, but betrays him at the end of HtN. I doubt Corona is much better. We mostly see her smiles, but she hints at being lot smarter and more manipulative than we give her credit for. She, at the very least, can deceive Ianthe, as she says that Ianthe will always think she thinks what she wants her to. Muir actually calls Ianthe the less bad twin in the notes of the pronunciation guide of GtN I believe. I get the feeling that Corona is going to do some fucked up shit in AtN. Both of them have the toxic, fake friend hiding behind a smile angle, something that the poem implies is more housewide than just those two.
The Fourth: The Slaughter. 100% The Slaughter. I like how I wrote a whole essay for The Third and The Fifth and only have a sentence for The Fourth. I just think The Fourth is pretty well encapsulated by The Slaughter, and it's pretty self explanatory. Jeannemary and Isaac aren't personally Slaughter avatars or marked really though, I don't really think they are very tied to any fear. It adds to the tragedy and the youth of them.
The Fifth: The Fifth is hard. We don't really see the more negative half of The Fifth, with Abigail and Magnus being our only strong information on them and they are both kind people living fairly good lives. The Fifth deals heavily in tradition and spirit work. The Eye is pretty good, but it's so much better for The Sixth. The Web is the best I think? Abigail and Magnus are the best at the social game with the other houses before they die, Harrow (I think) points out their attempt to make a power play with the banquet, and they have a lot of allies quickly (between The Fourth, and Gideon with Magnus, off the top of my head.) Abigail especially is pretty clever, and definitely slightly manipulating Harrow in HtN (for good reason! She is right to be doing so!) and honestly Abigail and Magnus remind me a bit of Annabelle Cane.
The Sixth: The Eye. I don't think that needs more context.
The Seventh: The Corruption and The Stranger. I feel like The Seventh is what happens when you take the rot and disease of The Corruption and worship it. There's a layer of beauty on the outside, but the inside it's rotting away slowly. So I think The Corruption and The Stranger is pretty accurate. Actually, The Flesh works too. The body is kinda cannibalizing itself with the Seventh's cancer based necromancy system, and I feel like there's a lot of the body dysmorphia and trying to be beautiful of The Flesh. This is literally the last thing I'm adding while I was fixing the formatting, so I'm glad I thought of it.
The Eighth: I'm not really sure? The Web maybe? I feel like The Dark could work, almost, from a view of the way that it's emphasized that when syphoning than anything could come up too, terrible things could be lurking to steal the cavaliers minds. And the cavaliers being lost in the dark before finding their ways back to their body. Actually, I was just saying The Dark because I had nothing else, but it works surprisingly well. This also fits The Stranger, so we're back there again.
The Ninth: The Lonely, and the Buried. I don't really feel like I need to go into detail about either? They both seem pretty obvious, if you've read the series.
Some extra thoughts I had while writing these:
Originally, I said that Alecto is an avatar of either The Extinction or The Stranger, but I changed my mind. She's an Extinction monster given human form, a bit like how The Distortion was forced into merging with Michael Shelley?
Harrow is marked by the Spiral, but isn't an avatar of it. She's an avatar of something, but there a lot of options (Buried, Lonely, just plain End) that I'm not sure what.
I'm not sure what Gideon would be an avatar of either. She's probably marked by The Lonely, but she isn't really very happy about or willing to participate in her own loneliness so I wouldn't say she's an avatar. The early parts of Canaan House for Gideon is so specifically Lonely coded.
John Gaius should, powers wise, be an End avatar. But his backstory is so clearly Extinction coded. I'd say he's an End avatar, but he tied himself to Alecto, who's Extinction, and completed a ritual by doing so, with The End at the helm (like Jonah completely the ritual with The Eye at the helm. (I can say that because it's still technically season 4) That's why there's necromancy everywhere. I know the series said an end ritual would just be 'everyone dies' but I'm choosing to ignore that.)
I feel like Blood of Eden has a Fear too, but I don't really understand BoE well so someone smarter than me can suggest something. Maybe The Slaughter? That feels lazy. Slaughter and End is basically everything in war, and they aren't really End aligned.
The Desolation and The Vast are the two I haven't gone into yet, and they both are in here somewhere, but I'm not sure exactly where? I found another post about this, but I didn't really agree with them, so I'm making my own. They gave Desolation to the Second, which is fine I guess? I feel like everywhere really Desolation aligned is better attributed to The Extinction. I guess it could be The First, if we aren't including The Extinction…. But it's such an extinction coded seriesssss…. Anyways The Desolation and The Vast are definitely Around. I just don't know where. I touched on this in the last paragraph, but I found another post about this, from @wildgeese98, after I'd already gotten halfway through typing this own in Google docs. It's very good, and very interesting, and I stole their answer when I was stuck on The Fifth, but we don't completely agree, and I wasn't sure if it’d be rude to hijack their post, so I'm making my own post.

Long sigh......
I've heard that one of the most problematic bnf from the other side of the fandom claimed on Tiktok that Tommy wouldn't be part of the emergency landing rescue because "the controls (of a helicopter and a jet airliner) are different". I know I made a whole thing out of Tommy being a helicopter pilot instead of a fixed wing one. (I even made up a sunshiny airplane pilot ex boyfriend for Tommy, that was fun while it lasted) I have no idea how that bnf makes the logical leap that if Tommy isn't physically solo flying that plane, then he won't be involved at all. He's still a firefighter working with aircrafts at an airport. Unless the writers for some reason don't want Tommy to be in the episodes at all and pull the "not on duty" card, it would actually make less sense for him not to be there.
You know the drill. Don't read further if the discussion of Tommy not being able to fly everything bothers you. Block the tag #aviation realism if this whole topic doesn't interest you. I've hesitated a lot whether I should post my thoughts on this, but I guess this is the last chance to speculate, so here goes nothing. This is my specs for Tommy's involvement in the plane disaster.
First, I want to clarify something. I never said Tommy wasn't on the plane in 2x14. If by flying that plane, you mean actually taking the pilot seat, grabbing the yoke and executing risky low altitude maneuvers over mountainous terrain, no, I don't think Tommy can do it. The thing is, operating an aircraft that size requires a whole team, up to 5 in this case. I can totally imagine Tommy onboard sitting behind the pilots, helping out with navigation or precise drop coordination.
youtube
It's possible, even common to transition from flying rotary to fixed wing. JetBlue and Frontier both provide rotor transition programs to veterans, I've also seen a former Army Blackhawk pilot now flies the C-130 for the Coast Guard. Training ex-military pilots to become commercial airliner pilots has a higher success rate and takes less time than training a regular civilian. But you see the problem, none of them have been working as an active firefighter for the past 20 years.
Let's cut to the chase, I don't think Tommy will be landing that plane. In the original film, they decide transferring an Air Force pilot into the crippled 747 is the only option, because they think woman dumb Nancy can't handle it. Aviation technology has come a very long way since the 70s. This MythBusters episode from 2007 proves that not only is it possible for a complete novice to land a jet airliner by following verbal instructions, modern planes are so advanced that they can practically land themselves.
Sure, there probably will be some major damages to the systems needed for a normal landing (landing gear, flaps, brakes, thrust reversers) rendering an autoland impossible, because drama. But then you run into the problem of where the hell is the Air Force. Last season, the Coast Guard was busy rescuing other ships stranded at sea so some LAFD firefighters had to steal a helicopter to search for a cruise ship that didn't call for help. This time, a passenger airliner without its flight crew has a very real possibility of crashing in a densely populated urban area, the whole incident is also reported live on TV news, how can they explain the absence of the Air Force? Even assuming no commercial pilots in the area, including the ex-military ones are willing to do such a dangerous stunt and tether into the cockpit from outside, what's stopping the AIr Force pilots?
I don't think Tommy will be the one instructing Athena through the landing either. You run into basically the same problem. There are plenty of flight instructors of that exact model of aircraft out there better suited for the job. Flying a modern airliner, especially an Airbus, is more like flying a computer than an actual plane. You need someone with intimate knowledge of the plane's flight control systems in order to talk a non-pilot through operating it.
I know, I know, I'm being a killjoy right now, I'm worse than the Tommy haters and I should shut the fuck up, but even if we're going 100% realistic, referring to real life aviation incidents of this scale (Yes, I'm talking about JetBlue 292 again), Tommy is especially going to be part of the rescue.
Real!LAFD deployed a few helicopters in the JetBlue sideway nose gear incident to monitor the airfield and to help coordinate ground personnel/equipment, with a couple more standing by on the ground in case anyone on the plane needed emergency medevac.
Tumblr media
I think the first officer might need a chopper ride if they want to save his femoral artery.
In the same incident, a local news copter also helped survey the landing gear issue from the outside. Tommy's helicopter can do that as well.
It's getting too long, but I have a few out-of-universe reasons for why Tommy will likely not play a super major part in this plane disaster arc, I'll just speed through them: Tommy's not a main character when screen time is already tight for the mains (I'd prefer to see him more in later Buck centric eps), he's already saved the day last season, I think production has blown all their budget on the airplane sets, the new trucks and the CGI bees already that they can't fit a helicopter in. (Let alone to replicate the original pilot transferal scene, it was a real stunt, they really got an AIr Force helicopter to dangle a stuntman in front of a flying 747. It was dangerous and hella expensive)
I actually hope Tommy would be working on the ground this time, I would kill to see him working with Buck and the 118, and not in the sky doing his own thing.

Under the adjutants thumb - chapter 6
Welcome to chapter 6~ :Dd
Summary: Colonel Caleb, a star in the making and someone the fleet was very glad to have their hands has been watching from the shadows, but what happens when he thinks the girl he knows isn't being pushed enough?
WC: 1256
MASTERLIST FOR UTAT
Warnings: General Caleb Warnings (yay this will be here every chapter now LOL), stalking
AN// Under the adjutants thumb is a passion project dedicated to my grandfather, a man who kept my silly ideas and passions alive. Thank you for the many hours of ramblings you listened too. I love and miss you 07/01/25

Caleb Xia was never one to back down or hold off when he wanted something, as a kid in the orphanage he was always the first to steal the candies he and Athena favoured and he always ate his share of them on the first day – never saving any for the rest of the week, something she found amusing.  When he was adopted and received an allowance, he would always rush to the model shop in the main square to buy the new flight models they would introduce on their rotating stock – they would still be there the next day, but because Caleb could do it, he did. This fact didn’t change into adulthood either. Caleb wanted to pass the Aviation with straight As, so he did; he graduated top of his class, and was expected to be the next big shot in the DAA. Everyone expected great things from him.
What no one expected was for him to disappear in the middle of the night, no note, no warning, and no trace. He never applied for the DAA, never looked back at what could have been as he joined the Fleet – for Caleb had decided as a mere child that he wanted the girl with eyes that shone like the sky, Caleb wanted the girl who offered him a hand when the world had never felt so lonely, Caleb wanted the girl who didn’t want him. The last time he had seen Athena face to face and with her knowledge, she was telling him to do whatever he wanted and not to involve her, and so, in true fashion, he did just that.  He joined the Farspace fleet the same day she had walked off, working there as he studied like every other Cadet.
When he graduated, he was the fleet's prodigy – someone they had never expected to have come across, let alone volunteer to join them. He was a miracle to them, someone whose brain was as fast as his hands and someone with an Evol that had more power than any that had been seen in a long while. No one knew why he had joined the fleet; it didn’t matter, he was powerful and that was all they cared about – that was the only fact that mattered.
She was also strong, but her power lay more in her emotional control than physical strength. An ex-foster kid who aged out of the system instead of being adopted knew more than anyone how to control their outburst, how to bite their tongue when things got hard. She was quiet and worked in a way that others could admire – all her work was always done without fault, and any loose ends were cleaned up before being submitted. She didn’t take bullshit from anyone, so, when two years after their talented Xia graduated and joined them officially she followed suit the future for the Farspace fleet looked brighter than ever before.
It had been 4 years since his graduation when he was promoted to Colonel, he had worked hard and deserved it – or at least that is what everyone said, if anyone thought differently, they just kept quiet. The workload was more than he had ever had as a general soldier; he had the responsibility of the fleet on his shoulders. If something went wrong in the Deepspace tunnel or with the organisation, it was his responsibility to fix it was his life was in the balance, and Caleb wouldn’t be lying if he didn’t admit that the idea was daunting.
His days suddenly felt longer, meetings, interrogations, training the rookies – it all took time away from his everyday life, away from the reason he had joined the fleet. He knew Athena had gotten in too, he had been in the back during her graduation from the aviation academy, he had watched her be given her official uniform with the other new graduates at the fleet's feast – he saw as her eyes shined with pride when she wore her new hat for the first time. It was as if she finally found her purpose, she seemed the happiest she had been since they were kids, so Caleb made sure to keep his distance, no matter how badly it hurt his heart. he did as she requested; he stayed away.
Athena only knew of the new colonel through the gossip of the other soldiers, how the woman spoke of his good looks, most of which she could guess was an exaggeration – how could a man be crafted by the gods when he was just a boring man, for heaven's sake? The men spoke more of his physical strength, rumours that he could lift two grown men flew around the cafeteria, earning whispers in a strange type of fear that made them want to know more.  There was one thing every party could agree on, though: the new colonel was terrifying. When dealing with his duties, he wouldn’t hesitate to shoot someone if they moved out of place, and he always seemed to have eyes on the back of his head.
Whatever his deal was, and whoever he was, wasn’t important to do the work assigned to her, and knowing this just meant Athena could avoid the figure in whatever way possible. She didn’t care for fawning over him, no one could be that handsome anyway – if he got in her way, that was when she would care about him.
And got in her way, he did.
Caleb had worked out quite quickly that doing his new job alone would be challenging, and he really did try to leave her alone, but it felt almost insulting to him that someone with her intellect would be nothing more than a patrolling officer. He watched her closely over the years, always keeping her out of trouble, always keeping any of her admirers away – he told himself it was so she could focus on work, if her work made her this happy, he had to protect it after all. She was quick on her feet, good with paperwork, good with interrogations, and knew the Deepspace tunnel almost as well as the senior officers.
She would make the perfect adjutant to him.
He sat back in his chair as he read over her information one more time, making sure not to miss anything, smiling when he saw how far she had come from the small girl under the apple tree. Life had finally given her the break she always wanted, and now Caleb was going to make sure she got the best of the best by his side. He only looked up when the door opened and she walked in, saluting slightly before gulping when she saw his face.
“Officer Miller.. Welcome”
She managed a polite nod, eyes hostile but a forced smile on her lips – he hated that look on her, hated how seeing him made her angry. He missed the bright smiles, the joking, the laughter – he missed it all, and he wasn’t sure where it all went. He stood and motioned to the front of his desk, watching as she walked forward. He was her colonel after all – one wrong move and she knew she could be in trouble.
“Good.. now, let me make this simple-“
A contract was placed on the table with a smile she didn’t quite recognise on his lips.
“You’re going to be my adjutant.”

hello ! i'm only in the early parts of the odyssey; but i came across a post saying that "the suitors always planned to SA penelope in the odyssey because they wanted to go inside her room" in defense of "hold them down" from epic, and i've read some of your posts on the choices made in that song compared to the OG poem, so i was wondering what your take on that might be ...? does that hold any water ? hope that isn't too bothersome, all the best .
That take is absolutely ridiculous. There’s a huge difference between violating someone and trying to pressure them into marriage for power. The suitors in the Odyssey are overwhelmingly awful, arrogant, and predatory in a political sense. They are absolutely violating Penelope’s household, eating up her resources, and refusing to leave unless she chooses one of them. But the text does not indicate that they ever planned to physically attack her.
The suitors are plotting against Telemachus because he’s their political rival, not planning an attack on Penelope. What Antinous suggests is murdering Telemachus to remove any obstacles to Penelope being forced into marriage. He frames it as a practical move: if Telemachus is dead, his estate is split among the suitors, and whoever Penelope picks inherits the house. The whole point is that they want Penelope to make a choice — albeit under duress — not to take her by force.
If anything, the suitors go out of their way not to push too hard. Penelope has a level of control over them that prevents them from acting too rashly. She stalls them for years with the weaving trick. She also demands they bring her gifts in Book 18, and they all scramble to outdo each other, showing that they’re still following the customs of courtship rather than brute force. Eurymachus even argues in Book 22 that they would have given her gifts and had no intention of harming her (though Odysseus doesn’t buy that, and neither do I), and it still shows that the suitors operate within a corrupt, but still structured, system of power rather than outright violence. Actually, Book 18 also tells us Athena literally has to step in and make Penelope look even more beautiful to really get the suitors riled up. That tells us a lot. If the suitors had always been overwhelmed with desire for Penelope, why would Athena need to do this? Because up until this point, their fixation on her wasn’t about personal attraction, it was about power. They wanted the legitimacy that came with marrying Odysseus’ wife and ruling his kingdom, but their greed was about wealth and authority first. Athena’s trick is what makes them start acting on reckless, impulsive lust rather than cold political maneuvering, pushing them even further into self-destruction.
And that completely shuts down any claim that the suitors had been planning to attack Penelope from the start. If they were already driven by uncontrollable desire, why did Athena need to intervene? It proves that their motivations were calculated ambition, not unchecked lust. They weren’t trying to take Penelope; they were trying to force her into a marriage that benefitted them politically. Athena’s move just speeds up their downfall by making them easier to manipulate.
And just to be clear, I’m not saying the suitors aren’t a threat to Penelope. They’re a bunch of entitled, power-hungry men who would absolutely make her life miserable if one of them won. But interpreting their political manipulation as an intent to assault her fundamentally misunderstands the dynamics at play. Their power grab depends on her legitimacy. They need her to marry one of them to make it all legal.

I very much enjoy Mass Effect 3, but there's no denying that it plays pretty fast and loose with the worldbuilding and continuity established in the first two games in order to set up its main plot.
The idea of a Lost Superweapon that is passed down from cycle to cycle is in direct contradiction to the original establishment that there is almost no information passed between the cycles. In the first game Liara is an archaeologist who hasn't even heard of the Reapers despite 50 years of study. Not even as a conspiracy theory that she has dismissed due to lack of evidence. The complete lack of surviving knowledge from the preceding cycle is its own clue that Something Else Is Going On. The idea that the Mars Archives include detailed data on how to build the Crucible makes no sense if nobody else in the galaxy even found a single scribbled note "Giant machines from before time killed us!"
Plus the Reaper invasion during the Prothean cycle started at the Citadel, as it did in all prior cycles, which cut off all communication and contact between different sections of the Prothean empire through control of the Mass Relays. Each small section could only communicate and travel to areas within normal FTL range. The idea that Protheans in the Local Cluster (Earth), the Exodus Cluster (Eden Prime), and the Athena Nebula (Thessia) could all have current information and data about the project is laughable.
The original message in the beacon on Eden Prime that we discover in the first game was sent by the Protheans from Ilos after the Reapers had completed their harvest of the Prothean civilization, reactivated the Mass Relays, and returned to dark space. It was a last-ditch effort to contact somebody -- anybody -- who had survived the slaughter, and was sent out when there were no Reapers still here to interfere. There was no active galaxy-wide Prothean defense or plan during the war itself.
What I think they should have done in ME3 was excise the idea of the Crucible as a Pre-Prothean device completely, and had it be a modern-day invention.
Based on recent breakthroughs in dark energy research, the Citadel Council has already begun work on a theoretical dark energy manipulator. It's intended for...I dunno, faster FTL travel through areas that don't have Mass Relays. Whatever. But it works with fundamental energy sources, and at previously-unheard-of power levels. Since the writers decided to ignore the dark energy foreshadowing from ME2 as the source of the Reaper cycles, they could use it for this.
Once the the Reapers invade at the start of ME3, the Council desperately tries to turn any science research already underway into a new weapon against the Reapers. This dark energy device is just one of a dozen projects all running concurrently, since they don't know what's going to work.
Our initial missions are running around trying to get them all up and running, gathering resources and defending against sabotage. One by one the other projects are either destroyed by the Reapers (or maybe Cerberus), or are abandoned by the Council once it's obvious that it won't be effective. The situation gets more and more desperate as the options dwindle.
Eventually, the idea comes to hook up this dark energy device to the Citadel, since we know that it is the control system for the Mass Relay network. And this device, which at full power may be enough to destroy a Reaper, now has the magical ability to deliver that energy across the whole galaxy at once.
"But if it is so easy that we can think it up, why wouldn't any previous cycle have managed to defeat the Reapers on their own?"
We have the advantage of the warnings from the original beacon on Eden Prime, and the delay to the start of the invasion courtesy of the Protheans from Ilos. The simple fact that we have any knowledge of the Reapers is more than the preceding cycles ever had. The Reapers were also prevented from decapitating the galactic civilization all at once by invading the Citadel first. Starting at the edge of the galaxy and spreading out from there gives us time, and prevents them from locking down the Mass Relays to isolate every different cluster.
This can still be credited as a Pan-Cycle victory, since without the extra time and advantages we got from the Protheans we would have died like all preceding cycles. But it doesn't magically give us a ready-made solution in defiance of all previous games.
