I would most recommend The League of Seven to fans of Percy Jackson and The Heroes of Olympus books.
In both, seven superpowered kids come together because of destiny (or something) to fight mythological monsters that are secretly actually real and save the world from destruction by evil forces, while having tragic backstories and traumatic experiences. And saying funny quips!!!
TLOS book one is sort of like if Annabeth, Leo, and a very young and optimistic Nico went on a quest together.
And fought evil Thomas Edison.

full on feel like pjo tv s2 is not gonna hold up so they need to drag as much attention to the series as they can by using nico as a sock puppet w tsats2
im fully expecting the show to go the way of the movies. it doesnt help Sea of Monsters is almost unanimously the least favorite book of the first series. People frequently forget it even exists or what happens in it, especially more casual fans.
Heck, just look at how little fanfare the second season has gotten so far as compared to the build up to s1. I wouldn't be surprised if s2 totally flops. It would be a little funny.
#pjo#riordanverse#pjo tv#pjo tv crit#tsats 2#Anonymous#ask#im still sad theyre beating every dead horse in the franchise they can EXCEPT for the graphic novels#the poor graphic novels arent getting advertised AT ALL and the BoO one got cancelled#like. the graphic novels would actually be probably one of the best advertising avenues!#like. hey! you dont need to write a whole new book! just remind people of previous books and give them a way to refresh on it#and given how the first couple of graphic novels were a different artists i could totally see them doing a second version#just to make them all consistent. thatd make sense and be reasonable.#the show has also already kind of trapped itself in a corner in a couple of ways#for one they kind of screwed themselves over failing to plan for the actors. yknow. ageing.#Walker is already taller than like. most of the cast. Percy's gonna be TOWERING over Luke by TLO#i think the main trio is all like almost 16 already? and we're only on s2. its gonna be rough. they didnt think about it. they didnt plan.#also with how theyve been messing with plot and characterization theyre VERY quickly going to start running into hurdles#because they dont seem to understand the more you change earlier on. the less the later stuff will work without also needing change#because. it's dependent on what comes before. so we will very quickly be requiring either MASSIVE canon divergence or a lot of retcon#and retcon in the show is going to be VERY OBVIOUS#though i stand by itll be so funny if they solve too much too quickly in s2 just like the movies and it just ends on#''wait. crap. what are we going to do for s3 now. we solved too much too early. they have nothing to do''

Just having thoughts about the og series starting with Luke, Thalia, and Annabeth's promise to each other about family and Nico making Percy promise to protect Bianca, his sister.
Annabeth to Luke:
"Family, Luke, you promised."
Nico to Percy:
"you have to promise to keep my sister safe." "I… that's a big thing to promise, Nico.." "Promise," he insisted. "I'll do my best. I promise that.
Both promises being broken.
Also this part:
"You promised you would protect her," Nico said. He might as well have stabbed me with a rusty dagger. It would've hurt less than reminding me of my promise.
The dagger mention here ?? And Annabeth's dagger being the cursed blade part of the prophecy that Luke used to stab himself with that was cursed specifically because he broke his promise.
Nico's fallout with Percy being the catalyst to Percy accepting being the Hero of the Prophecy because he wanted to spare Nico from suffering more pain. And because he felt he owed it to his sister.
Annabeth's reminder and unwavering faith leading to Luke's sacrifice, completing his role as the hero of the prophecy.
Both promises being everything but also not enough in the end.
Neither of them getting back the family they wanted.
Both of them healing and making bonds that they let themselves have despite all their heartbreak and pain and fear of abandonment.
Annabeth finding a family in Percy and Grover (and Sally).
Nico finding a family in Hazel, never seeing her as Bianca's replacement. Nico eventually being able to accept Jason and Reyna and Will's friendship and love for him (don't think about reyna and bianca hunters of Artemis parallels or jason dying).
Just... both Annabeth and Nico desperately wanting to preserve their families.
Both Annabeth and Nico being so full of love.
Love being why Annabeth's faith in Luke never wavers, which saves the world in the end.
Love being the reason why he helps Percy and why he doesn't give up on Hades making amends with his family, which ultimately helps save them in the end.

can't believe a show based on a videogame (usually games adaptations are notoriously bad, which isn't the case here tho) gave me the beauty and the beast/twisted mirrors/enemies to traveling companions/ruthless antihero+optmistic but still badass heroine who takes none of his shit/age gap but make it sexy dynamic of my dreams. as much as i love maximus and i think he deserves the best writing ever because 1. he's a clever deconstruction of the aspiring Knight bro who's actually a bit of a loser and, as much as lucy, sees the world in black&white at first and then doesn't get what he thought he wanted but what he needs (or at least i hope he'll eventually get it), and 2. he's a cutie and i want an epic love story for him too, it's very funny how they tried to give us a puppy kind of romance and the tumblr girlies still fixated on the "toxic ~she bites his finger off and he cuts hers off and sews it on his hand in what we'll pretend it's a symbolic marriage rings exchange or whatever~ asshole who used to be a nice guy/good girl™ with a lot of spunk and hidden anger but unshakeable morals" kind of relationship.

Very cool and not heartbreaking at all for the PJO show to emphasize that Percy is an outsider not only because he's new to the whole demigod thing, but also because he doesn't know the rules of being a traumatized kid with all the daddy/mommy issues possible
#Percy all the time: wait I treated them with kindness and didn't do anything bad#why am I not being treated kindly in return#absolutely everyone else: why on earth would you be entitled to basic human decency?#(and for the kids it's 1000% down to trauma and how they've been raised#so many of the foster kiddos I work with do the same thing#they either have to be so good and perfect (Clarisse and annabeth) that they can't be ignored which works until the parent moves#the goalpost and they're left in the dust with a perfect report card that doesn't get them a second glance#or they have to be so bad that their parents have to intervene (Luke) because#and say it with me folks#bad attention is the same as good attention if it's the only kind you ever get!!#watching this and revisiting TLT specifically has been crazy because they're kids who have been removed from home at their core#that's what our main cast of demigods are#all the year-round kids are removed from home and Percy's ability to go back home and love it just as much as he loves camp is something#that separates him throughout the series#he has a safe place to land during the TLO summer and he's using it and no one else seems to have that#Percy has a stupidly hard life but he has a home base to go to and most of those kids can't even comprehend that as an option#Percy's home is his greatest strength and it'll also forever be something that sets him apart from his peers#I just have thoughts on pjo and foster kids guys#silence emily#percy jackson#pjo tv#I'm arguing this isn't even a spoiler because it's been a running theme. fight me

What if Chris doesn't show up at Clarisse's house pre botl? What if he's guided (maybe by Hermes) to Connor and Travis' instead?
Chris, who is to me at least implied to be unclaimed as yet in the show, who is suffering severely mentally as a result of what he endured alone in the labyrinth, shows up on Connor and Travis' doorstep. They haven't seen him in years now, not since he ditched camp to follow Luke to Kronos. He's clearly unwell and barely recognises them. They worry it's a trick, and that's when Chris is claimed by Hermes. The Stolls decide to take the risk, well Connor mainly does; Connor has more faith in Hermes than Travis ever did. They bring Chris to camp, where they and Clarisse try to help him, to keep him going until Mr D returns. Mr D does save the day, Chris' mind is restored, but then there's the hard part. The initial distrust, the slow and painful path to reconciliation and redemption. If done right, it could be a banger of an arc.
It gives a reason a better reason for why Katie accuses Travis of being the spy in tlo; "you brought your brother - who wasn't claimed until recently and only you and Connor saw it - to camp after he showed up apparently randomly at your doorstep? After he joined Luke - your other brother - and Kronos? After he went on a mission to try and use the labyrinth to destroy camp?" Travis, of course, wasn't the spy, but at least there's a reason for suspicion on the others' parts outside of 'he's Luke's brother' (which is the general consensus and interpretation from the fandom, which never really made sense to me as Luke had left camp four years before tlo and there's a high chance Katie wasn't even at camp at that point).
They've already started by introducing Chris so early, but I hope they expand his story and the Stolls' roles, especially in botl and tlo. Let them have complicated feelings about Luke. Let them mourn him, and let them hate him. Let the angst hit.

Son of Neptune, actually I loved this book. It had all the pieces to something I really enjoyed. New Rome was well thought out and a really different perspective. There were ways to make it more accurate to roman mythology but honestly I'm not qualified to even admit at doing that part of the whole thing(anyone else who would like to please chime in) but the split personalities of the gods makes sense in context of HOO and drives the story.
Percy Hazel and Frank make an incredible trio, Hazels backstory is compelling and the flashbacks are super interesting. Frank's shape shifting abilities are an incredible addition. Percy spends most of the book either VERY CONFUSED or confusing everyone else.
All in all there's not a ton I would change, so this is going to be shorter than my TLH series(also I want to get on to the rest of HOO because oh boy I've got plans).
Now on to the things I would change:
Octavian has to be a likeable character, I'm sorry I know we all love to hate on him. But he HAS TO BE, because then it'll set up the slow horror of Percy's new friends marching on his home. If Octavian isn't just evil, if he was friendly, kind welcoming than doesn't that make it so much worse?
So basically Octavian is the augur yes? He and Reyna and Jason were a trio(intentionally pushed together for the most part, ideally your leadership likes each other). But Jason has been gone for almost 7 months, that's an ISSUE and they need to figure out how to move on.
Octavian can't be preator because he's augur but they also can't just keep the seat open indefinitely because Jason is almost surely dead and both of them are having a rough time and trying to balance the idea of honor and duty with their love for their friend who they can't even mourn property because he might be alive
Don't you see? Don't you see how that gives these two characters so much more depth. (Wouldn't it be so much more terrible to now watch Octavian and Reyna march on Camp Half-blood?)
Anyway! On to the next thing, Percy needs to spend more time in Camp Jupiter. After his quest is best but I would be willing to compromise with before. But regardless he needs to start building connections to see these people as people(and more importantly see the flaws in the system. New Rome might be safe but at what cost? *Cough* child shoulder army *cough*
Frank and Hazel need to have met Jason not personally but have been at camp while he was praetor. This is important for the future.
I could maybe see Hazel not being there, but Frank absolutely has to be. No discussion. Jason only went missing around December. Both of them could have been there before that. And it's important to set up the idea of who Jason was pre amnesia
Also Percy can not be elected preator. I get what Rick was trying to do, it didn't work. So we're just going to ignore that clusterfuck.
Otherwise honestly son of Neptune in my opinion can stay the same. What do you guys think? Should more things change?

Ok since I have incredibly mixed feelings about a certain son of Hecate and wottg lets talk about a character I actually want to see in that book
MORPHEUS
(This has absolutely nothing to do with a certain au that I am writing that includes him and that I would like to have a better character to go off of than 3 lines, what gave you that idea? /s)
Anyways I think I could have a good chance of him being in this book since
Chthonic god, book takes place at Halloween, Hecate also Chthonic
Former ta, Hecate also former ta
Has only been seen once before (Like Iris)
Grover doesn't like him
Please just let me be happy Rick
Anyways if ReadRiordan has a spotlight on him for wottg you all are immediately sending that to me

What if the reason Kronos targeted Williamsburg Bridge more was because of the Apollo cabin? Luke probably told him before that children of Apollo have healing powers, Silena probably told him during the war where is every cabin's members are going to be.
So he decided to take out the healers, since as long as there are doctors, soldiers will be going back to fight

do. you consider the graphic novels to be canon (in some way)? and if so, what do you make of sadie and carter wearing the chb and cj t-shirts respectively at the end of tot i think
I consider the graphic novels to be their own individual canon - they're an adaptation of the source material and follow a different series of events than book canon, so they're in the same category as like the movies, show, or musical to me (and DS game, lmao). They exist completely separate from the canon they're adapting from, so they're their own entities.
The material I consider strictly "canon" is the first series, so Percy Jackson And The Olympians only. Then HoO and TOA as extraneous canon on top of that - sort of a like "recommended but optional." TKC and MCGA also kind of operate as their own canons within themselves but can be linked to main PJO canon, so similar category. Published companion novels and similar material (so like Singer of Apollo) are also optional add-ons.
Stuff like Un Natale Mezzosangue and Nachos After The War where they weren't ever formally published are non-canon official material to me, kind of in the same vein as promotional material released alongside the books (the activity guides and such). The official art exists in the same sphere to me. I also personally consider CHB: Austin's lore to be semi-canon or non-canon official material, because they're actually affiliated with Rick Riordan (he has directly interacted with the camp's activities in the past) and I think it's just kind of cute.
The ReadRiordan articles are just straight up strictly non-canon. They just are. That is just an objective fact about them. I am slightly more lenient towards some of the old official Riordan website's media, like the interactive Argo II map descriptions, just since those descriptions were one-and-done and presumably had to have been approved versus a ton of articles with different anonymous unaffiliated authors. It's at best in the same category as the non-canon official promotional material.
As for Sadie and Carter wearing camp t-shirts - it's a cute cameo! And also kind of interesting in that they're technically one of first official published depictions we have of the camp shirts with any kind of details on them (the old official art doesn't count actually cause that was also bonus material).

More progress being made. I finished re-reading The Illusion of Living this past Friday. It's a nice book. 👍 This was the last of the Bendy books in this "marathon" that I'm doing which I had already read previously and now I'm rereading, meaning that I'm kind of up to date when it comes to rereading all the books that were released until December 2021. But the race is not over yet. Soon I'll start Fade To Black, and (technically) I'll finally be up to date.
Just to continue my chain of posting about the books I finished (at least, the main ones that I really wanted to read) here it is…something I did at the beginning of March, on the night when shit went down. (I hope you know what I'm talking about). I saw the tweets first hand, I was there! Right at the damn moment. And it was..something reading those tweets alright. If the image above doesn't show it, my mood that night and the next 1-2 days wasn't so… great. You might read this and think I'm exaggerating, but that night especially I, uuhhh, I didn't feel good! And this image (and maybe 2 more posts I made that night) are the results of that. (And to think that a week before this happened, I had finished rereading DCTL after a long time. Talk about better/worse timing than this)
At least, if you want the bright side of this, it's that even after that day, I decided to continue with my book marathon, and I don't regret it. I was down that day, but I wasn't out yet damn it!! and I'm still not. (I don't know if this sentence makes a lot of sense, but you get my point)
As a bonus, here's something I did the night I got to the part where Henry is first mentioned in the book (you can consider this as a representation of my reaction when he's first mentioned, both for when I read TIOL for the first time in 2021, as now in this rereading)
Tumblr media
Feat. canon Henry design and my fanon design for him (I wanted to include him here + I still read this book with my fan-designs in mind)
#bendy and the ink machine#batim#crookedsmile open his mouth#crookedsmile open his mouth;bendy#ABBY LAMBERT; IN MY HEART YOU ALWAYS BE CANON TO THE GAMES; I DON'T CARE WHAT THE OTHERS SAY#also;i'm a Henry Stein fan;could you tell#re-looking at the first image and realizing that I will probably have to change my Abby design eventually;specifically; the hair.#I'm sure this hair doesn't match with what was described in DCTL or TIOL;#It's going to be a little strange; I'm so used to drawing her like this; but hey; every now and then we have to make sacrifices#To summarize my thoughts on TIOL: it's a nice book! Although it is not my favorite among the other Bendy books written by Kress#It's great to see more of Joey; delving deeper into his character and seeing how he thinks and seeing more of his life before the studio#is an interesting read! but I still prefer stories like DCTL and TLO; you know;especially because these two also have the horror factor in#which;considering what TIOL is; it doesn't have it. It's still a good book tho. It's just not my favorite#and re: the whole book canonity thing: I was not happy! Wow; what a surprising thing to say#as someone who enjoyed the books;I was disappointed with what I thought was expanding the games universe; In the end;just wasn't doing it#like;ok;sure;that doesn't mean the books aren't worth reading; I'd say they are! but still;*points to the last tag*#Maybe; one day; in the future; I can even accept this decision and move on with life; you know. understand the why of this.#but in the current present? yeah;no. I will continue to ask myself why#I would say more; but Tumblr has a tag limit apparently so I'm running out of time. as a last message: read the books#regardless of what the devs say; I still think these things should be recognized.#that's all; peace
