Been reading a lot of Batman fic lately and it's weird to me that— Okay, not that weird. I think I get it, just—
"It is good and empowering for kids/teenagers to go fight bad guys if they feel it's necessary" feels like a significant underlying assumption of much of the source material, like "[these particular kinds of] aliens exist" and "magic is real" and "vigilantism is a good idea". These are things you need to suspend your disbelief about in order to enjoy the source material.
I understand why someone might find the kid heroes thing harder to suspend disbelief on; you can reframe it into a statement applicable to the real world which is a problem if a lot of people believe it ("it's fine to endanger kids/benefit from their labor if they agree to it"). But—
In the setting, "being able to fight bad guys" is often equivalent to "being a person with power and autonomy". In the setting, "It is acceptable for kids/teenagers to go fight bad guys if they feel it's necessary" is equivalent to "kids/teenagers should have power and autonomy". Is this something you want anyone concluding in the real world? No, of course not. But this is fiction.
I don't know, it feels like getting hung up on Aragorn's tax policy, to some extent? Or going to a burger place and complaining the menu is full of burgers?

I love the idea that Rumi could have stans in the underworld. And the reasons just being that she, Mira, and Zoey - hunters or not- fought the ruler that control them.
There would be demons out there that saw Rumi - someone with demon patterns - win, while directly oppose Gwi-Ma and went, "that is some queen sh*t right there"

Something I think about all the time is how some of Aaravos’s first words to Viren were “how may I serve you?” and one of his absolute last direct remarks made on his thoughts on Viren (for now) is “I tried so hard to help your father”.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
#the dragon prince#tdp#viravos#aaravos#viren#lord viren#tdp aaravos#aaravos tdp#tdp viren#viren tdp#the themes of control and power and freedom go so hard within their relationship#especially considering the self-sacrifice boarding onto sh themes with them#that also tie into the butterfly motifs in the show#which also somehow tie into their individual relationships with their literal butterfly child#(which is something I'm not gonna shut up about btw how the butterfly is one of the most commonly associated symbols for the psyche)#I mean their child being created as a tool to serve them that supposedly wasn’t meant to have a soul#and viren and aaravos both in a similar way as their child dealt with the idea of servitude in their arcs a lot#but ultimately the ways we saw them adhere to the idea of servitude was to either actually indirectly serve their own means#or to alternatively further self-deprecate themselves#like just to callback to how aaravos refers to viren and later on to himself as vessels#like I think the fact that they added that second use of the term wasn’t for no point at all#I think it was to show how little aaravos respects his own bodily autonomy as much as viren’s or the next guy’s#or yk his own child#but anyways yeah it is so fascinating to see two characters who are so power hungry be willing to damage themselves in such awful ways#or in other words sacrifice so much and even themselves#just to obtain that sense of power#especially in relationship to each other#the irony with these two#but ig that's what aaravos was preaching about with everything being complicated

Nick himself said that his knowledge is confined to the leaks prior to s4, the s4 scripts from his verified source (likely within a source) and basic knowledge most fans paying attention have been able to formulate about s5 based on what has been released officially/unofficially, trends from Netflix and common sense.
He is saying based on all that, he doesn’t think byler is happening.
And if we think back to what the Duffers themselves shared in the 4x09 script, it literally implies Mike’s monologue worked, and that it was entirely genuine. This tells me that the script the Duffers released for Emmy consideration, is not that far off from what Nick saw for himself.
I think it’s likely Nick got something that the average below the line worker might manage to get their hands on if they tried hard enough. A copy they know they have to water-down to prevent these very situations from happening.
Unfortunately for the Duffers, it just so happens that they didn’t scrub their watered down copy hard enough.
Unfortunately for Nick, he admitted that it’s possible and even likely that the production will release things that aren’t exactly accurate with the sole purpose to lead fans sleuthing astray, without realizing it may have ironically already happened to him.
#byler#stranger things#8flix#it would take an eternity to cover everything about scriptgate properly#there are just so many aspects of it that are unknown or are known but just not thoroughly understood bc 8flix has existed for some time#even prior to that fateful dry summer back in 2022#and including scripts beyond just st which made 8flix seen as a reputable source for scripts across the board#personally i've found myself back and forth on it#was nick sus for telling fans a script was dropping hour by hour and then going radio silent for days only to not release a script at all?#yes (and all while using the loophole argument that technically people donated to 8flix and got a complementary script with that donation)#were the st writers fishy for saying they'd release a script for a scene but would then need at least 2 business days to post each one?#also yes#are we really doubting that they have secrets in their scripts that they have to remove/shift a bit for the generic all-access version?#if so.. why?#I think very few people see the version of the script that the duffers have#shawn likely has it plus his own notes with it bc he also contributes ideas and runs it by the bros for his episodes and more bc he's an EP#maybe other key-players with that sort of control over the production could have more honest scripts i.e. the writers room#outside of that you have the main cast who MIGHT get those scripts + additional notes on their characters as discussed separately one on on#but beyond that scripts are meant to be vague#it's supposed to be 1 minute of screentime = 1 page of script#quite frankly multiple versions of the scripts exist and we're getting the barest of them all... minus a few slips here and there...#I could go on forever but i wont for my sanity bc the reality is we don't know for sure what happened and we probably never will#i'm more interested in seeing how this all pans out#nick has come out for vindication at least once this summer and last summer since 2022#i'm getting hefty slap on the wrist vibes here which if anything just makes this all so much more insane bc i mean... the implications?...#is it giving bad blood? is it giving enemies to lovers?#maybe nick will give us more vague hints when the next dry summer rolls around

I want to know so much more about Natalie. Does she ever get to go home? Does she have people she's connected to? Does she ever get a break from being the boards mouthpiece to be her own person with thoughts and feelings? I don't think she's severed, she holds a higher position than Mr.Milchick and Helena was able to call her late at night and have her answer (assuming the phone call was real and not Helena lying). The way the board uses her to speak for them in a way that alienates her from everyone she talks to is so horrifying. She's forced to be condescending and infantalizing anytime the board makes her speak through them using her as a shield for peoples anger so the board can ignore the abuse they're doing. We did get to see her when she's not speakingfor the board at the gala for Lumon. What convinced her to think so highly of Lumon shed dedicate her life to it, does she get a choice? I'm killing the board with my mind and freeing Natalie

Any opinions on human domestication guide? I feel like some of the pieces for it might appeal to you with the whole yes kink no sex aspect of them
That's the, uhh, plant people domesticating humans setting, right? We aren't 100% familiar with it but we've seen enough to know that the narrative treatment is solidly... really, really not for us. Dan is more familiar with it than us, but from what we've seen, we're very inclined to just opt out of it - the narrative treatment of the actual domestication process treats it way too much like a good thing for us to be capable of being comfortable with it, and it has a sort of, like, lack of awareness of itself that throws it from "could be cool" solidly into squick territory.
Listen, we love a good bit of domestication and loss of autonomy, but the way that a lot of the narrative we've seen treats it is... awful, honestly, leaves us feeling like we need to get a good drink to get the taste of it out of our mouth, and it's not even something that we can fully verbalize because it's something in the higher framework and the treatment and execution of tropes that is really goddamn hard to explain without a five thousand word essay, and we don't want. To read enough of it to do that.
It feels bad to read. It is the unfortunate combination of "kink that's close enough to what we generally enjoy that it feels like something we should like but makes us want to cringe out of our skin in practice" that has gotten it and derivative works recommended to us and we just get immediately turned off by the narrative treatment. It's not... great. We are going to turn to Dan's opinion for this since we can't get past a few chapters on even derivative works and he has far more tolerance for this stuff.
It would be different if it had more of, the, like, self awareness of other works - the knowing of the author that what is being done is awful, even if the work itself takes place in a universe where that would not be a consideration. The first chapter's treatment of humanity is uncomfortable. The further treatment of humans and their domestication pushes that discomfort further, and it feels like the author thinks this domestication is a good thing - that it's a net gain for humanity to be enslaved. It treats it, narratively, like a utopia that people are resisting for no good reason, and that's...
There's a reason we prefer dark fiction over utopia, you know? The difference between a utopia book and a dystopia book, a lot of the time, is that the person writing the dystopia knows the world they're writing would be miserable to live in, and the person writing the utopia hasn't thought that their ideal world might be a nightmare for someone else. We can take a lot of very dark bullshit, but the moment that you lose that awareness that what's happening here is fucking terrible, you lose our... ability to engage with the work. Because if you, the author, aren't displaying that awareness, we can't keep with it. It's like how you can tell when an author doesn't view women as people, but with that view of... autonomy. The disabled. The way that cutting away any choice of how to live is seen as a mercy - and we know this may seem an extreme view of the subject matter presented, but we have seen these ways of thinking in people before, and a lot of those experiences have majorly affected our life.
We can see how someone would like it, if they had different experiences to us, if their brain worked a different way. Unfortunately, it makes us want to physically chew our arms off, and none of the narrative we've seen escapes that... pervasive, all-consuming thought, in the background, that you don't know yourself as well as someone else with a position of power over you. That if you gave up control, someone could make the decisions for you, and that would be good. That life is better when you have no say over what happens to your own body.
If it's something you like, we aren't going to yuck your yum. KINKTOMATO is a thing for a good reason, and you enjoying something is decidedly not our problem - we probably would legitimately never mention it if not specifically asked. But we quite value our bodily autonomy, and we have lived our life in a position where almost all of our problems have come from the fact that there are a lot of people who believe we don't have the capacity to properly make our own decisions, and we have had to battle that, tooth and claw, for years, and still, arguably, don't have all of our life in hand. It feels awful, it strikes on things we have personal experience with from an angle that feels like the author believes that it was stupid for us to attempt to fight people who had best intentions for us, even when "best intentions" can pave a road to hell worse than anything else you can imagine.
The sympathy in this narrative does not go to those who fight against domestication. In this setting, we are treated like a toddler fighting against what's best for us for wanting the right to choose what we do with our own body, and we cannot separate that underlying view from the story enough to enjoy it.
Also it doesn't have enough interesting spec bio for us to tolerate it sorry

I am delighted to meet another who has used hypnosis for the sake of cheating at Nintendo games. I will typically have a suggestion that when I announce "Crash!" my partner will be compelled to veer off the track.
What methods do you use?
Oh, it's fun to use pleasure triggers I find in these instances. Once the opponent is properly softened up from their own aroused state (not always necessary by any means but a grand thing to playfully rub in their face), it's easy to start just using hypnotic pattern and narrating to them what comes next. A fun one is to make the power ups into different effects, so if they have the power up they have a delicious dilemma if they want to actually use it. If they still need a little correction, it's always great to make them getting hit by items separate effects. I find the randomness to keep the playful tone and mood I want. While I'm not really competitive by nature in games, this is a delightful place to abuse one's power.

Yeah idfk I'm not an economist because I have a soul, but maybe instead of propping large portions of necessary parts of society upon the generosity of regular citizens to make donations we should perhaps restructure how our taxes are used and make corporations & billionaires actually pay what they owe
Like maybe meat grinding everyone else in the world to death so a handful of people with more money than they could spend in 400 lifetimes can scrounge up some more is unsustainable or some shit

The gauge in front of Corrin refused to move down, the needle slowly climbing higher and higher. She groaned and let her forehead bonk against the display before climbing back down in front of the exposed wires that Trip had been walking her through.
"It's still building up too much pressure. I need…" The decompression won't trigger because the computer is still displaying clear levels. Despite the mocking red needle, the automatic release system isn't set up to take readings after the second valve, because usually the vents take care of it. "If you open access panel 17B you'll find, um, part of a protein resequencer panel."
If the heat from the engine block wasn't already sticking her bangs to her forehead, Corrin would have started sweating. It was made worse with only the comms connecting them, Corrin unable to do anything but wait, imagining Trip prying the panel free. "Hey, Commander, it's nothing to worry about but you should know it's a little--"
"bonkers fucking yonkers" | from @entriprises
His voice was muffled through the level between them, but she could just make it out overlapping with the comm. She really had meant to get the panel switched out, but she hadn't had time to set up an order last time they were docked. And if the fix had stayed operational, well…
"I had to patch it in as a relay after the Conatarri system… if you patch a second signal through it'll start a loop and force a fail state. It's one of the safety protocols to stop duplicate signals from overwhelming the synthesizer at the mess hall, but it should interrupt the pressure readings and force it to vent as an error response…" She's rambling. She knows she's rambling, but she's nervous and she hasn't been prepared for Commander Trip Tucker of all people to have to dig into her work. The work she was so proud of this morning suddenly felt inexperienced and inefficient when imagining it through the eyes of another. She wasn't sure if the ticking clock or the chewing out she was going to get later made her more nervous.
