ATHENA

Athena, in Roman mythology known as Minerva, was a daughter of Zeus and Metis (Oceanid of good thoughts).
Patronage, symbols and epithets
Athena was a goddess of wisdom, fair war, warfare, crafts, intelligence, warcraft, strategy, protector and mentor of heroes and patron of the Athens
She was associated with owls, snakes and sometimes horses, olive tree. On ancient paintings and vases she was pictured with a spear, helmet, armor, Aegis (shield with Medusa's head) and chariot.
The epithets that were used to describe were:
Pallas (young woman or brandish) - connected with a friend Athena had while training with Amazons (in other sources they were childhood friends)
Glaukopis (bright eye) - connected with the owl that represented Athena
Parthenos (virgin)
Polias (of the city)
Hippia (of the horses) - connected with her creating bit, bridle and saddle

Family
Athena's father was Zeus and her mother was Metis. Due to those two, her sibling-uncle-aunt-cousin list was very long.
Zeus had many children so from his side it would look like this:
Siblings from Zeus's side: Ares, Apollo, Artemis, Hephaestus, Hebe, Hermes, Dionysus, Muses, Horae, Charities, Persephone, Eileithyia, Heracles and many more
Aunts/uncles from Zeus's side: Hestia, Hera, Demeter, Hades, Poseidon
In some sources, it's said that Metis also had a son, Porus. That makes him Athena's brother.
Siblings from Metis's side: Porus
Aunts/uncles from Metis's side: 49 Oceanides, Potamol
Children
Even though it's said that Athena was a virgin goddess, which is true BUT.....she was raped, by her own brother, Hephaestus.
When he let Athena out of Zeus's head, he immediately fell for her. He asked the father to let him marry her but Zeus was clever enough to notice that Athena, his favourite daughter, was very disgusted by Hephaestus and he said 'no'. God of Fire was very sad about that but he didn't give up. Whenever he could, he would try to seduce the Goddess of Wisdom. Athen was saying 'no' every time. One time, when she visited Hephaestus in his forge to request some weapon, he tried again. She stood high and left but he followed her and tried to rape her. She pushed him off but a bit of his semen fell on her skin. (In "Percy Jackson's Greek Gods" it's said that Hephaestus wiped his nose in her dress.) Athena wiped the fluids with a scrap of wool and threw it down on the Earth. That's how Erichthonius, future ruler of Athens was born.

Birth
Zeus, threatened by Kronos's words about the King's child taking his throne, decided to swallow pregnant Metis to get rid of the 'problem'. But, as an Oceanid of good thoughts, Metis gave birth to Athena then turned herself into a thought and moved into Zeus's head then somehow left. Baby Athena followed Metis's steps and travelled to King's head, where she grew up and became a big, annoying headache. Zeus, tired from the pain, asked his son, Hephaestus, to open his skull to see what was wrong. He listened and how surprised everyone was when a fully armored goddess jumped out of Zeus's head.

Myths
1. Arachne
Arachne was a Libyan princess who was saying that her weaving was better than Athena's. The goddess was pissed and accepted Arachne's challenge. Unluckily for Arachne, Athena couldn't find any flaw in the princess's work so she destroyed her work in anger. Arachne was so ashamed that she hung herself. Athena then turned her into a spider and let her weave for the rest of her life.
2. Medusa
Medusa, one of the three Gorgons, was a very beautiful woman, some say she was an Athena's temple maiden. One day, after the competition between Athena and Poseidon about patronage over Athens, Sea God was so angry at his nephew, that he decided to make her feel the same. So with his natural flirt going, he approached Medusa and started to mess around. After some time he led unaware Medusa to Athena's temple that she was working at and started to indicate a sexual act. She was very opposed to that, that was Athena's sacred place and she knew that it was risky. Poseidon was pressuring her, saying that Athena was busy and she wouldn't mind or so. Still, she didn't agree to anything, as many may agree, she was raped. Athena, who wasn't so busy, saw what was happening in her temple. Blinded with anger, she turned Medusa into a monster we know her as, the woman with snakes on her head and the eyes that turn into a stone. But was it really Medusa's fault?
3. Athens
Poseidon and Athena were rather enemies when it comes to patronage over the city. They both wanted to be patrons of Athens so they set a contest. Who will give the best gift to the city? Poseidon gave the city salt water and horses, Athena gave them an olive tree. Well, Athenians chose the tree. That's how she got the patronage.
Those are just a few myths with Athena in them, I can provide a little more if you're interested.

There are many things people expect from one called 'God of Blood'. Always, the first thought is the blood of war, the blood of violence, the blood of the weak shed for the goals of the strong. Ares doesn't think of the blood of battle at all. When he thinks of blood, he envisions the many tied knots of blood bonds and bonds forged in the blood of battle. Blood sons and blood daughters, blood brothers and battle sisters, blood oaths and blood vengeance - he watches over them all and keeps close each one of these bonds.
One cannot begrudge his displeasure then when he realises he cannot tell Leto's offspring apart just by looking at them.
It was easier when it was just Artemis. Dark hair curled about her shoulders, a fierce mien whenever Father summons her to the mountain, a scattering of bones and blood shed whenever she was disturbed; the eldest child of Leto was a wild thing, sharp toothed with sharper claws always at the ready. There's whispers of her being a twin, of her other half being made to crawl on their belly as penance for their sin of god-slaying but Ares pays it little mind. What twins look alike among their number? Even dog litters are born distinct with all their unique markings inlaid in their fur. Artemis' twin too would be much more than their sister's mirror image.
Pouring over his list now, he wishes anything about Phoebus Apollo was that simple.
Mirror image did not begin to describe it. The twins were the same height, the same build, had the same colour and texture hair, ate the same raw food and drank the same amount of nectar. There was no difference in how they dressed, no difference in the company they kept, no variance in the weapons they used. There are some days Ares still cannot believe Phoebus will grow into a man and not some nymph with the way his ears have that slender point. He watches them now, sitting together beneath a shady palm and stringing their bows in an uncanny unison and curses because he still cannot tell them apart. What use is his skill in knowing blood when they both have the same damn blood running through their veins? What bond is there to sense when they are tied so tightly together, Ares can scarcely tell brother from sister?
He sighs. Unadorned and completely alone, the only way to know who is who is to speak to them. He'll have to find more ways to tell them apart from a distance. Surely they cannot stay this similar all the rest of their immortal lives.
#ginger writes#hello and welcome to my 'ares is doing his best' corner#I can't overstate enough how alike Artemis and Apollo are as young gods physically#literally identical twin status which only begins to change as they acquire different domains#I was really happy with the font I got because it very closely resembles what I imagine Ares' handwriting to be like#But I'll gladly add an image description if it's too illegible#That said Ares has an interesting dynamic with the twins#In a lot of ways there's a sense of guilt/wariness surrounding him for Apollo and Artemis#because he knows how much they stress his mother out and he also knows how much Hera doesn't like Leto#But there's also a bit of fascination because Artemis is extremely strong#(in a way that's markedly different from Athena's strength)#while Apollo has all of these crazy stories attached to him from killing Python + his work while exiled#but when he returns he's very placid and calm and almost?? too nice? Definitely nothing like Artemis#in terms of personality#Ares doesn't really trust it until he learns that straight up that's just What Apollo Is Like#That too will change eventually but for now Ares just doesn't want to approach Artemis the way he'd approach Apollo#because he'd get his head caved in with the curved side of a bow#There are precious few encounters Ares has had with Artemis where he hasn't walked away with#at least a few arrow wounds LMAO#He'll eventually be forced to accept that it's Artemis' love language#ares#artemis#apollo#pursuing daybreak posting#writing

epic the musical olympian eye color headcanons (let me cook):
athena: piercing blue irises with no pupils. unexpectedly bright, always- a faint glow can be discerned under scrutiny, but be wise. you are not the one scrutinizing here.
zeus: no pupils, no irises, no sclerae- only the color of lightning. a child thinks it yellow, but a man knows any color brightened beyond the visible spectrum appears blazing white. and when the skies reach down, the color is not important anymore.
hermes: you could mistake those beautiful honey-brown eyes for human. this olympian is a rare one forgive at times.
poseidon: no one thinks of how the black pupils are really a very dark navy, or the how the sclerae are a shade of aquamarine. they are all staring at the most reflective irises, in which they see themselves in swirling, lightening, darkening, shifting waves. sometimes they see empire-destroying storms in those irises, sometimes light waves lapping at a lazy beach.

A little late for Trans Visibility day, but it gave me an excuse to finally finish drawing my personal Trans Apollo Concept!
[Image description: Digital drawings of Apollo Justice from Ace Attorney as a trans woman named Persephone "Percy" Justice.
On the left is a render of her in her desk slam sprite pose, (just without the desk). Her hair is a little longer and styled in a spiky swooshing shape vaguely reminiscent of Tracer from overwatch, with the signature front spikes becoming a fuller 4 tufts slicked to the left with the lowest partially covering her right eye. Her outfit is identical to her base canonical one, the only difference being the noticeable shape of growing breasts attached to her chest. She's wearing teal green contacts matching her tie. Her eyelashes are drawn in a matching color as per the artist's artstyle. A set of makeup freckles also adorn her cheeks.
The rest of the page is a collection of doodles showing Persephone interacting with the other characters.
Persephone/Apllo, pre-transition: "I feel so bad for Robin. I can't imagine how horrible it is being forced to be a guy when you're not one." Athena: "Apollo, I'm detecting way too much discord in that statement for you to be cis." Persephone/Apollo: "I have no idea what that means."
Persephone, experimenting with long hair shaped in twin-tails going down her shoulders, similar to Lamiroir/Thalassa Gramarye: "What do you think of this style, Truce?" Trucy, in all caps: "WHY DO YOU LOOK LIKE MY MOM!?!?" Persephone: "What do u mean? I based this on Lamiroir's hair."
Persephone, talking to a hairdresser with a nametag saying "Harry", "This is the cut, Mr. Styles." The hairdresser looks at a paper handed to him showing a Terraria player character with a similar hairstyle as Percephone's final design.
Klavier, winking: "Mine Frau, Justice, Perhaps now that you've found yourself you'd be open to a dinner with moi?" Athena, offscreen: "You snoose you lose, Gavin!" The Scene shifts towards Persephone, with Athena and Juniper on either side of her. Athena is sticking out her tongue, and Juniper is smiling and blushing. Persephone grins with a self-sure smugness and says, "Sorry, Klavier. I'm taken. Me, Athena, and Juniper are gonna go see a movie tonight." End description.]

forever mad about lots of hoo things, but one of the big ones is how little we get to learn about the argo ii. i know, rick just isn't that kind of writer, he's not interested in getting into the mechanics of his magic flying boat, or the politics and societal structure of his neo-roman society, and that's fine! that kinda stuff isn't for everyone. but isn't that such a shame? isn't that a bit disappointing? you get this huge magic ship with so many cool functions and customization and it was built by one of our main characters, and we get hardly any description on how it works! haven't read much of him, but i think flanagan actually seemed genuinely interested in his mechanics at least. the whole rrverse, but especially hoo, could use more of that.
#im just a little math nerd#i like engineering okay?#stop making fun of me#like he literally did the BARE MINIMUM when it comes to descriptions#i know he's trying to center on the snappy exchanges and monsters of the week and whatever#but man. i need to read about how the argo ii works okay?#hoo#argo ii#heroes of olympus#riordanverse#rrverse#leo valdez#the mark of athena#🥦#meanwhile on the argo ii

Don't think for a second I've forgotten about this AU. It's always stewing in the back of my brain and I decided to let some of it out. I feel like Athena has so much potential in a comic format to show how she hears stuff, so that was the intention when making this: to show that off some.
Also bonus headcanon I have is that Athena has synesthesia which is why she's wording stuff the way she is
#also this was half finished a couple weeks ago but then I had hospital moment. I'm out and fine now tho so dw#(well fine as in. no longer in the hospital)#art by me#ace attorney#ace attorney au#franziska adopts athena#franziska von karma#athena cykes#7 year gap#let me know if the image description is fine I uh. have never attempted one with a comic before so i wasn't sure how to go about it

Athena Analysis complete! I started by stating the essential defining aspects of her character, pulled out some of the language she uses, and finally listed more in-depth relevant traits. I couldn’t fit them all on the document, but every point has a quote to back it up, so if you’d like to know what evidence I have for a certain point, just ask! Feel free to add to the last list, too. I’ve probably forgotten something and the more Athena info the better!!
#I’m thinking of doing a separate document for headcanons too#god I really hope I’ve learnt something from this#athena cykes#ace attorney#tw panic attack mention#The description gets kind of detailed so skip the second-to-last point if that bothers you!#assuming people will read the tags before they read the actual thing because it is LONG#ask to tag#dual destinies spoilers#aa5 spoilers#aa6 spoilers
