[Echo finds Leo at CHB]

Leo: Do I know you?

Echo: [statement] I know you.

Leo: Really? Did I fight you or something?

Echo: Or something.

Leo: Why do you keep repeating me? It’s kind of… wait!

Leo: [facepalm] Echo! Dang, I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to forget!

Echo: [annoyed] Mean to forget.

Leo: But isn’t people forgetting you part of the curse?

Echo: [shrugs, resigned] Part of the curse.

Leo: Girl, we have got to get you some text-to-speech tech.

Echo: Text-to-speech tech?

Leo: Come on, I think Chiron’s got a smartphone.

Echo: Smartphone?

Leo: [laughs, starts to lead her away] Now who’s asking all the questions?

Echo: [firmly] Questions.

Leo, self conscious and nervous about where he stands with Calypso, goes to visit her at her reportedly mortal band camp - only to get an arrow whizzing past his head.

Leo is startled to find someone tugging on his sleeve, trying to get him out of the way. It's a familiar face or maybe it isn't, but he knows it's Echo even though he can't really place who she looks like.

Which means...

Narcissus.

Oh right, Leo'd entirely forgotten he wasn't dead again yet.

So now, not only is Narcissus trying to kill him again, now Calypso is pissed at him for ruining band camp. Sounds like a typical Leo Valdez summer.

i have suddenly become obsessed with a theme that HoO established but never proceeded to extrapolate on, which is:

You are Percy Jackson, and you have been swapped with a boy who was allegedly everyone's favorite person, but they have decided to replace him with you. They just met you. You are Piper McLean, and you have just found out your relationship is fake and built entirely on the memories of Annabeth Chase. You have been given a boyfriend when hers has been taken away. You have no idea how much of it is real or not but regardless you feel like if your relationship isn't exactly in their image that you have failed.

You are Leo Valdez, and you have just learned that you are the echo of your great-grandfather. You are not your own person. You just exist to be a mirror of him. A doppelganger. An actor and stunt double facing all the danger he never had to but wearing his face. To be there for his best friend decades later simply because he couldn't. You are playing a role. A seventh wheel and a pawn for a goddess who carefully sculpted your entire life for her own purposes.

You are Hazel Levesque, and the only reason you are alive is because your brother couldn't save your his sister. You are a consolation prize. An apology. Your existence here is misplaced in every way but you inhabit it anyways.

You are Frank Zhang, and you are a shapeshifter. Inhabiting your own body feels strange and clumsy when you could be literally anything at any time. You are anything and everything and live your life with the simple certainty of knowing exactly how you will die.

Calypso x Leo SUCKS, here is why

Look, I get why that sounds harsh, and it is, but hear me out.

First and most importantly, Calypso is a pedophile. We see her fall in love with 14 year old Percy, then 15/16 year old Leo. Already weird, right? And look, if we got some explanation as to why it would ever be okay for a titaness who is thousands of years old to fall in love with CHILDREN, maybe I could see past it.

BUT in the odyssey myth, Odysseus was MUCH older than a teenager. He was already noted to be an old wise king (who was old enough to feign madness from old age) at the START of the Trojan war. Now that war lasted 10 years and add to that the multiple years he spent traveling to Ithaca, and you got an old-ass man. So either Calypso was already a mature adult, or a child thirsting after some old dude. Sure, it happens, but weird. Let's not forget that Odysseus was married and very much still in love with his WIFE Penelope, but Calypso basically kept him hostage on her island and would not let him leave at all.

Now let's get to Percy, he got blamed for not making sure that the gods kept their promise??? Good sir that is a 16 year old who just got out of a WAR and had his memory stolen, of course he didn't check with the gods. ITS NOT HIS RESPONSIBILITY! He shouldn't be held accountable. Also let me remind you that Calypso wanted him when he was 14. Not a good look.

And finally, we get to Leo. Poor poor Leo. A boy who was oh-so starved for love that he took anything he could get, and that's my explanation as to why Calypso x Leo ever happened. Honestly, I adored Leo. I had a crush on him (still kinda do shhh), I won't lie. However, I also adored Annabeth but since her and Percy are amazing together, I could get behind Percabeth. But Caleo? Hell no. Sure, they have a fun dynamic, but it's more of a sibling dynamic in my opinion. I would've rather had Leo x Khione or something. Maybe Leo x Echo cause that would've been adorable. But Caleo??? No. He should've never gone back for her. Leave her to rot.

Secondly, Calypso is simply a jerk. And I'm the type of person who adores asshole characters when done right. Octavian is great because he's an irredeemable asshole AND he gets karma. But Calypso? She's a bitch and gets such a kindhearted boyfriend in return. Like I said, she tried to pressure a (married) man into sleeping with her and is simply a dick to Leo (HER BOYFRIEND) and I could understand if they were siblings, cause siblings are dicks to eachother with love underneath, but she just sucks. She immediately hated him, which she has reason to do after what happened to her, but even after that she was just horrible to Leo. I seriously don't see why he loves, likes, or even tolerates her.

In conclusion, I hate what Rick did to Leo. I adore his stories like no other (which is why I'm so passionate about this), but he really fumbled the bag here. Calypso is just not a good fit for Leo.

Personally I really do prefer Leo x Jason, Leo x Nico or even Leo x Echo. And yes it does sound weird for me to say that considering that I call Calypso a pedo, but I could see Echo not being able to age normally because of being stuck with Narcissus. Echo x Leo is in my opinion much better than Calypso x Leo.

Um sorry- that was really mean but I needed to say that.

Narcissus may have been vain and a consummate heartbreaker, but Nemesis had no right to do what she did. Trapping him in a prison of his own mind, forcing him to feel so over confident and in love with himself that he never notices the world around him. I imagine it's both more comforting and more painful, blocking out all sensation until you starve to death. In love with a mirror image, unware it's unable to love you back. I think what Nemesis did to him counts as torture. And I would hope people would back me up on that.

Also, don't even get me started on Echo. Hera apparently did that one, but seeing as Echo was cursed, I think this falls under Nemesis's jurisdiction too. Echo was cursed to never be able to talk unless she repeats the words of other people. She's the only one who genuinely cares for Narcissus, and yet she's so unremarkable that nobody notices her. These two deserve better. They were tortured in cruel and unusual ways. And I want to see them finally get their happy endings.

leo is finally done running. he's found his home: the waystation, chb, piper, not-dead-jason. he deserves to rest after everything he's been put through, and so he will; live life comfortably, finally stay in one place, have a stable family with unconditional love he so needs !!!
