✮ first, some backstory ✮
✮ the drinks in doomcoming are spiked. duh. But Ivy absolutely refused to take even the smallest drink because of what happened to her brother, Lucas.
✮ her brother’s friend had called her from a house party and told her that he was super sick, that someone had put something in his drink and that they’d found him beaten up in the backyard.
✮ nameless friend brought Lucas back to Ivy’s house. Her mom wasn’t home (she works overnight shifts a lot), so Ivy ended up helping Lucas to the bathroom and stayed there with him all night.
✮ Lucas faded in and out of unconsciousness and throwing up. Ivy did her best to coax him to drink water and eat some small saltines, but she truly just sat with him all night on the cold floor of the bathroom.
✮ he kept saying he was seeing things. “Don’t you see it there? It’s right there!”
✮ Ivy just kept trying to reassure him— “stop it, Luke. I-it’s just me! I’m right—I’m right here, what are you TALKING ABOUT?!”
✮ she’d never been more scared in her life. Ivy had thought he was going to die, but they couldn’t exactly afford to take him to the hospital.
✮ when he woke up, he’d seen that Ivy was sitting by him, crying. She hadn’t slept at all.
✮ Once she’d realized he was awake (and, y’know, actually conscious), she’d just wrapped him in a tight hug and sobbed into his shoulder.
✮ “Vee, kid, im fine. Its alright. You didn’t really think I was gonna die, did’ja?”
✮ Ivy was eleven at the time btw!! and her brother was seventeen!! that shit just stuck with her forever
✮ backstory over !! ✮
✮ ivy’d gotten very used to sniff-testing any drink that she didn’t make. When she smelled the actual refreshments for Doomconing, she had a feeling that something was off, but she’d been told to calm down, and to not be a fun sponge.
✮ “Who would spike a drink in the wilderness?” // “Nobody’s that psychotic!” // “Yeah, Ive, don’t worry. It’s just us here. Nobody’d do that.”
✮ As I mentioned in this post, Ivy dressed up for Robin during doomcoming!
✮ She actually ended up asking her to dance, to which Robin said yes, and they were having a good time until Ivy saw Jackie dip off, and that’s when the two of them had their conversation (also linked in this post.)
✮ Ivy broke off from the conversation with Jackie when she heard Robin calling her name.
✮ “Ivy? I-..I think something’s wrong.” *sniff* “I think you were right about the drinks.”
(i might write this as a fic or something, lmk if you’re interested in that <3)
✮ Ivy (who was currently panicking), helped Robin over to a bush and held her hair back while the other girl emptied the contents of her stomach into a bush
✮ Ivy was entirely losing it at this point, and when Robin started saying she was seeing things, Ivy walked with her into the cabin and just sat with her in the common space
✮ she completely started crying, all but pleading Robin to just listen to her.
✮ “Robbie, honey, there’s nothing there. “It’s” not here. But I’m here. Focus on me, okay? Please.”
✮ This means that neither Ivy nor Robin were involved with the sexual assault scene (context for why both are around Travis during season 2 + 3)
✮ (this also means that neither saw Javi leave)
✮ when Travis came back to the cabin, Robin was asleep next to Ivy. When she heard him enter, she came out of the other room.
✮ As much as she wanted to ask if he was okay, she just handed him a blanket.
✮ “Robin’s sleeping over there. I’ll keep the others away from ya, alright?”
✮ when the rest of the group got back (and were mostly sober), Ivy walked in.
✮ “So. Which one of you spiked the drink? Cause that’s what happened, isn’t it?”
✮ Mari admitted that she’d put the mushrooms in, thinking they were normal.
✮ “Well, who found them?”
✮ Misty admitted to it, and Ivy lost her shit. She started screaming at the girl. She punched her once, square in the jaw, and continued to yell at her once she’d fallen.
✮ “What if they were poisonous? You all could’ve died, and for what?! Cause you wanted to roofie our teacher? You’re fucking insane, Misty! Absolutely fucking insane!”
✮ eventually, Britt had managed to pull her off, saying that “Misty’s not worth it.” Ivy had scoffed and turned to leave.
✮ “Robin could’ve died. If anything would’ve happened to her, I would’ve killed you (Misty) where you stood.”
overprotective gf <3
anywho sorry for the obvious cop-out I didn’t want to write an oc who partook in sexual assault. i KNOW it’s a part of the show but i didn’t want to write it. sue me.

One thing I appreciate about Zenos' place in the writing/story is that he provides an avenue for WoL to be someone else, something more than what the core narrative simply directs you to be.
You're the hero, you do everything in your power to help those around you. Zenos allows you to be less than virtuous, if you so choose. You don't have to agree with or take up the personality he ascribes you. He can be wrong about you. But... He can also be right about you.
You can be the WoL that feels bloodlust, that began the journey simply because you wanted to see the world and challenge yourself. You can fall into the role of virtue, adopt the mantle of hero, but feel tired and regretful of the responsibility hoisted upon your shoulders.
You will always rise to the occasion, because that's what's inevitably required of you, but you don't have to with unending enthusiasm. And when you finally, finally reach the end of the universe. Make the penultimate sacrifice for the sake of everyone and everything else...
He gifts you one final opportunity... to fight for *yourself*. To be *yourself*. He tells you you can walk away, this is your choice, whether it be for duty or pleasure, you act for *you* and what you want. No one is asking you to save them, to fight for their sakes. You fight for yourself and for your very own hopes and dreams.
#admittedly the game does force you into that encounter so it's not true player choice#but its still flexible to contextualize however you wish#yes i am viewing everything through rose tinted lenses dont at me#buri rambles#zenos yae galvus#ffxiv#let me be poetic about my interpretations it gives me satisfaction

Honestly, unfortunately, my life only started making sense and I started having the courage to live my truth after I turned 25 going into 27 and beyond. It took me until 25 to have the courage in my convictions enough to start musical lessons and learning guitar and until 27 to start solving some social riddles which were not making any sense to me. I'm like almost 34 and things are still gentle sliding into place and stop feeling such an internal war about who I appear to be vs who I actually am and living that truth, even if it's annoying and embaressing and sometimes not a win. I felt like a fake a lot of my life as a teenager and at this young age (30 something) I am starting to feel like I'm easing my way over to a more truthful satisfying honest life, where I can look myself in the mirror and be okay.
I love every part about this ask anon 🩷 thank you sm for sharing, this gives someone in their early 20s like me sm comfort to know
#I wish you all the best! Only at 22 did I feel brave enough to start pursuing piano#And I’m sure as I get older I’ll be emboldened to try even more things#Some things truly only come w age#I have sm to look forward to in my 30s#And contextualizing it as youthful is so important bc in my 30s I’ll be capable of doing everything I can do in my 20s#Someone will go into my inbox like why are u so obsessed w youth#And it’s like this rly isn’t what this is?? Why are you obsessed w making our 30s seem like we have one foot in the grave#When that’s not the case in every sense

What’s the architecture/layout of old Bur, how do modern people perceive the ruins?
The city in its peak was very large and spread over both shoreline and a network of small islands. These islands comprised a waterfront district connected by a network of bridges and canals, where a large portion of its non-agricultural lower class lived.
It had a fairly well organized and efficient freshwater+sanitation system across most of its span (the canal district had less effective plumbing largely due to logistical difficulties, most of its wastewater was instead flushed by rain powered cisterns). The water system was powered by the Hsuke river and made fresh water readily accessible throughout the majority of the city (though few homes had direct freshwater plumbing). It had several major public baths, and the homes of the wealthiest members of society had their own private bathing pools.
In this part of the world, it is broadly regarded as once being one of the most beautiful cities to have ever existed. It was particularly noted for its water gardens (still a fixture of present day Burri culture) which were absolute marvels of engineering for that period, with the majority of these being entirely artificial and supported by its network of aqueducts. These hosted thousands of ornamental plants, fish, and fowl, as well as fruiting trees and shrubs. They were treated as a public work meant to benefit all citizens, and existed throughout the city.
The palace in particular was noted as impressive, in part for its architecture but mainly for its gardens. These hosted 'exotic' plants and a menagerie of animals from across the empire's territory, and existed in part as a symbol of the state's power and reach. It was a trend for emperors to bring in the fiercest animal from each conquered province to the grounds, with the an-nechoi being the beast of choice from the lands across the sea to the east, with one (Probably erroneously) cited as killing thirty servants in the process of moving it into the gardens.
The palace was located within the temple district. This district housed over a hundred shrines to the various lesser deities of the pantheon, and temple complexes to the seven chief deities (the firstborn gods who created the world, all other gods were later descendants). Old Burri temples were Kinda similar in shape to a ziggurat, though had an accessible interior space and a central tower which housed the shrine. At this time, the chief gods were believed to physically inhabit their temples. Each god had its own high priest permitted to attend to their shrine, with the emperor being the high priest to Inanariya (king of the gods) and the only person permitted to directly commune with this deity. The foundations to these temples are relatively intact in the present day, though none of the towers remain (collapsed in earthquakes with no one to rebuild them).
The city was heavily fortified, having one external wall surrounding most of its length, and an internal wall surrounding the palace/temple district (which doubled as a fortress).
---
The period of sea level rise began with a 500ish year period of mostly gradual increase, which occurred slowly enough that most infrastructure could adapt very easily and the problem went unnoticed by most (the city of Bur experienced most of its Growth during this time). It then culminated with about a century of (relatively) rapid rise, which is the direct cause of the city's abandonment.
The canals flooding had always been a problem during storms, but this began to occur with notable frequency, alongside the water level as a whole rising quickly enough to be noticed on an immediate human timespan. The canal district was maintained for a while by rerouting some of its waterways and building up barriers, but it was the first part of the city to be abandoned. Things got more serious when the mainland parts of the city grew increasingly impacted by storm surges that never seemed to fully retract, and major parts of its surrounding farmland were hit by surges and tidal waves, and rendered too saline to remain arable.
The actual single biggest cataclysm was the collapse of the city's mainland sewage system. It was built with flood canals as a failsafe, but these were built to withstand heavy rain rather than an encroaching ocean. Storm surges would cause large segments of the city to be flooded with sewage (including some of the freshwater plumbing), and serious disease outbreaks would follow.
These issues were enabled/exacerbated by earthquakes (the region is geologically active and this isn't unusual) that further damaged and mingled the sewage and freshwater systems. One earthquake and its subsequent tidal wave was a turning point, and the resulting breakdown of (already strained) infrastructure rendered a large swath of the city uninhabitable in the space of about a week. This also just caused immediate damage to much of the city's architecture/walls, and collapsed the tower of the temple to Inanariya (never a good sign). This is when the full exodus began, first with people flocking to un-flooded parts of its city and farmlands, and those who could afford it fully relocating to other cities/towns.
All of this issues were compounded by the 1st Burri Empire already being in a period of collapse at this time. This was largely a matter of simple overextension. Its borders were constantly under attack by rival states/its victims, sometimes with great success. Bur's own population had burgeoned well past what the imperial core land could sustain, and its cities relied predominantly on extraction of foreign grain/goods to feed their people. It lost most of its eastern land holdings in a fairly rapid timespan (overextended with wars at multiple fronts), which caused frequent famines in its core.
This put pressure on its final emperors to invest in increasingly desperate expansionist projects, while attempting to keep up public morale with lavish public works and objectively stupid vanity projects. The attempt to excavate a canal at the Viper seaway's 'tail' (one of the few eastern regions it retained secure control of at that point) was in part a desperate act to revive its economy by opening up/monopolizing a new trade system. The amount of money and manpower sunk into this ultimately doomed project was followed by Bur being fully ousted from its eastern holdings, and was one of the final straws in its collapse.
People in the city of Bur proper were dealing with the double front of starvation and their homes + streets + immediate water supply being flooded with seawater and literal human feces. These issues impacted the lower classes first and most severely, but ultimately transcended class boundaries. Famine grew more and more rampant, not only with the loss of the colonial holdings that supported the population but of farmland in the imperial core- much of the city of Bur's immediate farmlands were unproductive due to repeat inundation with saltwater during surges, and the farmland along the Yamage river to the north was rapidly being captured and pillaged by the Hsem (historical enemies, a nomadic group with a khait warrior culture from further west).
All this was fucking unlivable in of itself, but also had very obvious implications in the context of Burri emperors also being high priests and the chief intermediary between the gods and the people. Not only was the government failing to sustain its citizens to begin with, but signs of divine disapproval were deeply apparent.
So the last days of the 1st Burri empire were a chaotic period of civil unrest, most acute in and around city of Bur proper. This involved near-constant peasant revolts and several attempted coups. The last Burri emperor (of the First empire) ultimately fled the capital of Bur and reestablished in Titenegal, declaring it the new capital. This was then sacked by the Hsem within a year and after that it was fucking Joever.
The city of Bur was functionally abandoned by this point. People still Lived There and there were several attempts to set up a new government, all of which failed in the short term. After the collapse was complete, its inhabitants were mostly just peasants who built up new homes further inland and sustained themselves on the remaining farmland. Few people lived permanently in the city proper due to all of its intact infrastructure being effectively non-functional without the governmental bodies/human labor to sustain it.
---
It should also be noted that it was Extremely not just Bur that was flooded, the sea level rise was worldwide (resulting from a collapsing ice sheet) and almost Every coastal city during this period experienced the same issue. Bur's demise was just notably dramatic in that it was once the most heavily populated human city that has Ever Existed, and directly correlated with the fall of the empire it hosted.
The flooding was fairly gradual, but it's been 7 centuries since the first Burri empire's collapse and the fall of its capital city, and many contemporary records were lost to the immediate chaos and to the large span of time since. Cultural memory tends to reframe the flood VERY rapid on a human scale, many of the stories describe the city being swallowed in a single wave as an act of divine punishment (the popular notion at the time that the last emperors deeply displeased and shamed the gods has stuck into the narrative, often exaggerated into stories of them being horrifically debauched blasphemers guilty of the worst disgraces imaginable). Even more conservative accounts tend to imagine the totality of the destruction taking place over the span of about a year (merging the memories of the immediate earthquake devastation with more gradual elements of its slow flooding). People widely believe that most of its residents drowned in the city's cataclysmic demise, and that the ruins are now Extremely haunted.
The state of the flooding is not 'completely under the sea' and you can still walk/wade through most of the inland ruins (the canal district is effectively submerged, with most structures that Would be above the water level having collapsed against the strain). As such, some people Do Live Here. These people are mostly smugglers and pirates using the ruins as a hideout, and/or opportunistic hunters and fishermen who won't let ghosts stop them. Entering the city ruins is currently forbidden (largely Because of the criminal nature of basically every motive to go here (even hunting, which is considered poaching)), but enforcement of this rule/active patrols to prevent entry are inconsistent.
The majority of Old Bur's inhabitants are animals. The un-flooded parts of the city and its gardens are now a host to a thriving community of native plants and animals (and a few descendants of escaped non-native zoo animals/ornamental plants that adapted well to the conditions).

The egret shown here is a foreign species originally brought as an ornamental bird. In the centuries since its first import, it has become widespread and occurs on both sides of the Mouth seaway. It can hunt in both freshwater and saline environments, and a very large population lives permanently in the ruins of Old Bur.
Its common name is the ghost egret. Contemporary Burri folklore holds that the ghost egrets of Old Bur are literal ghosts, carrying the souls of those who died in the cataclysmic floods.
#[[JUST REALIZED you didn't even fucking. ask about the timeline of the flooding I just kinda went for it]]#[[its relevant to its contemporary state I guess????]]]#Added the photo without linking to the original post becasue it is WILDLY outdated.#Among other things I cited the population of the original city of Bur at 'over a million people'. Which is contextually ridiculous#Also (because this probably gets confusing) everything here describes the first of two empires out of Bur which was by far#the larger one. The second had a similar pattern in its downfall (overextension - famines at home - war and revolts at multiple fronts)#but was significantly less dramatic and had a much cleaner rebound (it ended in a successful coup that the contemporary#Burri Republic directly descends from)#I used to describe 3 Burri empires which. I don't know why I did that because the 1st of the three was an ANCIENT land empire#stemming from further west where contemporary Bur was its easternmost extent of Conquered lands. This collapsed like ~1500+#years before present and has no directly obvious impact on modern conditions whatsoever (it DID have major impacts#though: it's what first brought khait to this region and some of its ancient roads are still used in the largest continuous land#trade network in the northern hemisphere)

my apparently hot utena take of the day is that when anthy purposefully loses the rock paper scissors game for the bed in episode 31, it is not something she does to protect nanami or utena. this is a common reading of the scene, and i understand why, but i just don't think it makes a whole lot of sense. i don't think anything would have happened to them if she had chosen to win the game instead - that's not the plan. the plan is for nanami to walk into the planetarium like she does at the end of the episode, and see the truth of what is going on (the way she ultimately reacts to it, though, is of course not according to plan). the consequence of losing the game is simply to not get to sleep in one of the beds. anthy chooses the couch as her alternative, likely on akio's behest, but had one of the other two lost they probably would not have. anthy is not getting between akio and anyone in this episode, and she doesn't need to either. they're not at any more risk in this particular moment than they are every single day they spend in that tower. she's just playing her role.
#and.. i love anthy but she just. is not that selfless. especially when it comes to nanami#and if she was trying to protect utena then uh. that's a pretty short-sighted attempt#she's flawed in this way! let her be flawed#if you do read this as a selfless act of protectiveness though more power to you#i just. don't see it#also just a little funny how much talk there is about how great it is that anthy is not a perfect victim or w/e#but then people still need to contextualize everything she does as really well-intentioned#m

let’s do some autistic meta knight headcanons!! over explaining my interpretation of meta knight yet again wooooo

this orb has NO idea how to talk to people!!! outside of work anyway. a lot of this is partially due to upbringing (suppressing his emotions all the time) but he does not know how to express emotions, like…at all.
this goes into a few things
1. yeah talking is hard. even after figuring out what he wants to communicate he will struggle. conversation can be so overwhelming, especially under pressure. he will need time lol
2. because of that, forming connections is hard. i really don’t think meta is much for shallow relationships, and certainly not early in the timeline. which also means he has very little experience with friendship. so a lot of the relationships he did have went kinda neglected, and issues that probably could’ve been worked on by talking became…*cough romk* escalated.
3. honestly i wouldn’t be surprised if meta convinced himself he couldn’t feel emotion (anymore) until like. katam-ish. he tried very hard lol

vulnerability is terrifying. (though this gesture here is also just comforting, like his little cape cocoon thing he does.)
unmasking—yeah im taking the mask thing very literally here—is a big deal and a very slow process for mk. i’m sure he has a lot of feelings on that lol. it served as a way to ensure no one could ever, y’know, see him.
i can’t say i think he’d ever fully ditch it—there’s always gonna be some days that are more stressful than others and if having it could help him get through it, it just makes sense. mainly when working.
it really is about vulnerability. granted, i don’t think he has the most expressive face (in my head every astral just tends to stare at things) but i doubt he has much control over it. can’t fake a smile but also can’t hide it. probably blushes easy because yeah, astrals; just look at kirby’s face.
just the idea that someone might be able to read his expression and know what he’s feeling before he’s ready for them to (or even understands it himself…) yeah he doesn’t want that
but emotional turmoil aside, i think his mask also hides a lot of his stims

remember that whole “suppressing your feelings” thing? yeah turns out that ignoring half your instincts isn’t a good idea. so in true meta knight style, he tries to stim as subtly as possible
1. he has the least control over his wings, so they will flick and twitch on their own. they’re usually a good indicator of how he’s feeling, not unlike the body language usually seen in cat ears and tails lol. flapping is also an extension of this of course, though he probably suppresses it more.
2. this also effects when he takes his wings out. pretty much every time he’s excited or nervous it just happens. kinda makes me wonder if his wing cape ordeal might also go into the suppression thing… (i’d say yes, but using a cape is also very comforting so it’s not necessarily a bad thing)
3. going back to the mask thing; he stims a lot underneath it. think like biting or pursing your lips. he bites his tongue and clicks his mouth. that sort of thing. his mask also makes it harder to notice that he is constantly sighing, humming, grumbling…all that
one nice thing about the mask though is that it helps a little bit with lights!!! woo

(look at him and his magically floating glasses)
sensory stuff—i think he’s mostly bothered by light and sound. maybe a bit of texture. he’s pretty sensory avoidant and perfectly happy standing off to the side not touching anything.
the one exception to this is physical affection, which is, despite all of this, most of how he shows affection. it’s a lot easier to hug someone than to try to explain your feelings for them, after all.
i think he would like pressure though. so that’s probably part of it. and i’m pretty sure there’s some connection in here to fighting (dang, is that the only way he knows how to get his energy out?)

anyway, pretty much all of this is in contrast to kirby, who i would gladly nominate as the champion of Doing Whatever He Wants. he might pick up a few bad habits, but he will never mask the way meta knight does. he might not understand how he feels, but he’s in tune enough to express it…usually.
this is a very good thing for meta because it helps him to do the same thing. kirby’s so energetic, it’s hard to not want to stim with him. it reminds meta to be kinder to himself and explore his own emotions. he can also help kirby understand themselves, so this connection is very important.
yeah, at the end of the day, everything kinda just boils down to kirby and mk as parallels

this is the conclusion i promise
to me, meta’s arc is about growing stronger by growing kinder, and this is mostly by learning to be kind to himself. letting himself be a person again, loving and understanding other people, and eventually, letting go of all the expectations placed on him and doing the things he’s always wanted to do…
autism headcanons are fun for me because it’s cathartic to write, but at the same time, it just makes sense in this sort of narrative. meta is, to me, inseparable from these things. and so is kirby! that’s a dynamic that’s a lot of fun to play with, and it’s at the heart of my kirby interpretation.
if you actually read all this WOW thank you
#i almost considered not posting this on a wednesday but then i wrote everything and uhhh yeah i think i gotta so#happy cringe day wednesday#for as many notes as i have on these characters i really don’t talk about it much#but meta knight is a special case because i am terrible at subtlety and he wouldn’t be meta knight without it#so this is to contextualize some things#because of what ill have in the next few days haha#basically these are just things i consider when writing meta#but a lot of it is subtextual and i dont know how well it comes across#kirbyposting#kirby#meta knight#headcanons#autism headcanon#this is practically an essay lol oops#i have like 2/3 of a fic that explores most of this in a way i probably won’t do again#but we’ll see if i ever finish it#god kirby concepts are so fun to chew on#i overthink everything i make so much lol

S5 opener REAL
#byler#will byers#stranger things#every season besides s4-5 opens with non main characters#for el we got a flashback of the lab followed by her perspective in the scene directly after#and I think for Will we will see something similar#with us getting the flashback of him in castle byers in the UD#followed by him in the present in the scene after#but what exactly would warrant that memory being brought up in association with Will in the present?#mayhaps his connection to the mindflayer and the UD run deeper than we realize…#it’s likely not something he could just rid himself of in s2 and now he’s all good#he literally still feels a connection to everything he is feeling#that means he is still technically at risk of being the spy in some capacity#the massacre at Hawkins lab also was a guiding force for El discovering the ‘truth’ in s4#so it’s likely for Will this instance will operate in a way that re-contextualizes the events in the past up to now#like that time Will suggested they go to the hospital in s3 only for the flayed to be waiting for them#or how flayed Billy knew they were at the cabin…#all while Will was looking cryptic as hell in that scene watching over el#or the fact that he picked Billy in the first place the season after he focused on Will…#you know.. williams#I think the easiest way to introduce the castle Byers flashback is a dream honestly#specifically a dream within a dream#seeing that recent leak and Will looking like either he has a black or hasn’t slept in days#is giving very much ‘I am afraid to sleep bc I’m scared of what will happen’#I think dude is not exactly possessed in the sense that we already saw in s2 with like the particicles#but he’s still vulnerable#the door is still ajar…#no but fr this idea of opening a door in your mind was so blatant in st2 AND s3b of teen wolf#I think a big part of it will be guilting Will over the fact that Will has helped him before without Will telling the others#hence his weird vibe in s3… like he’s already successfully fucked with Will post s2 potentially with us being none the wiser aka here we go

daily reminder that Max Evans was the speaker at one Kyle Manuel Valenti’s funeral, that he was the one who prepared something to say about how much Kyle meant to all of them, at a funeral that had his mother and sister and friends from childhood, instead of any of these long lasting deep and loving relationships being prioritized by the show writers they elected for his archnemesis the man he claims to “not much like” and not only this, but Max stands up in front of his friends and family and can’t even say his farewell, his hands are shaking and he can’t keep his composure, he leaves saying “he can’t” sniffling and tearing up as he walks away
#anyways#that was so very so very gay of them#so very homoerotic yearning#and it’s another day where I stand by a major change (because of changes if lead producers and network stuff) was having Max sleep with#Anatsa instead of Kyle#like they were always supposed to hang it out in s3 a#it makes everything else make better contextual sense#roswell new mexico#rnm#max evans#kyle valenti#valevans

Someone asked me about something VinVeld related and I've been working on the response for two hours because I had to double check some terminology to explain the canonicity of them being partners, which led me down a rabbit hole on titles used amongst coworkers, which led me to check how often one title specifically shows up in the Japanese BC script, which led me to double checking that I remembered the honorifics used between characters and how that's super relevant to keep in mind when interpreting Veld and Vincent's short interaction—
This isn't even the question, it's just necessary information for me to be able to explain my take on the situation, because I don't want people to just take everything I say at face value without knowing where it came from.
There is something so fucking wrong with me.
#vinveld#lore gremlin reporting for duty i guess#nashi has an opinion#ANYWAY that word only appears TWICE#and ALSO the lack of honorifics means WAY MORE than people give it credit for#and basically the Grimoire Valentine translation is contextually correct#and they were partners in the turks in the old days#full explanation will be included when i finally ANSWER THE DAMN ASK#i am so sorry friend i promise i will respond#give me time#my brain is so full of these two#but i feel like i gotta justify everything because people only accept official meta#for confirmation of canonicity#and that's THE WORST

people really do not know what they're talking about when it comes to Elizabeth Woodville's social status, huh?
#yes Elizabeth was without a doubt considered too low-born to be queen#no she was not a commoner and nobody actually called her that during her life (so I'm not sure why people are claiming that they did?)#Elizabeth's social status was not a problem in itself; it was a problem in the context of queenship and marrying into royalty#Context is important in this and for literally everything else when it comes to analyzing history. Any discussion is worthless without it.#obviously pop culture-esque articles claiming that she was 'a commoner who captured the king's heart' are wrong; she wasn't#But emphasizing that ACTUALLY she was part of the gentry with a well-born mother and just leaving it at that as some sort of “GOTCHA!”#is equally if not more irresponsible and entirely irrelevant to discussions of the actual time period we're studying.#Elizabeth *was* considered unworthy and unacceptable as queen precisely because of her lower social status#her father and brother had literally been derided as social-climbers by Salisbury Warwick and Edward himself just a few years earlier#the Woodvilles' marriage prospects clearly reflected their status (and 'place') in society: EW herself had first married a knight and all#siblings married within the gentry to people of a similar status. compare that to the prestigious marriages arranged after EW became queen#Elizabeth having a lower social status was not 'created' by propaganda against her; it fueled and shaped propaganda against her#that's a huge huge difference; it's irresponsible and silly to conflate the two as I've seen a recent tumblr post cavalierly do#like I said she was considered too low-born to be queen long before any of the propaganda Warwick Clarence or Richard put out against her#and the fact that Elizabeth was targeted on the basis of her social status was in itself novel and unprecedented#no queen before her was ever targeted in such a manner; Clearly Elizabeth was considered notably 'different' in that regard#(and was quite literally framed as the enemy and destroyer of 'the old royal blood of this realm' and all its actual 'inheritors' like..)#ngl this sort of discussion always leaves a bad taste in my mouth#because it's not like England and France (et all) are at war or consider each other mortal enemies in the 21st century#both are in fact western european imperialistic nations who've been nothing but a blight to the rest of the world including my own country#yet academic historians clearly have no problem contextualizing the xenophobia that medieval foreign queens faced as products of their time#and sympathizing with them accordingly (Eleanor of Provence; Joan of Navarre; Margaret of Anjou; etc)(at least by their own historians)#Nor were foreign queens the “worst” targets of xenophobia: that was their attendants or in times of war commoners or soldiers#who actually had to bear the brunt of English aggression#queens were ultimately protected and guaranteed at least a veneer of dignity and respect because of their royal status#yet once again historians and people have no problem contextualizing and understanding their difficulties regardless of all this#so what is the problem with contextualizing the classism *Elizabeth* faced and understanding *her* difficulties?#why is the prejudice against her constantly diminished & downplayed? (Ive never even seen any historian directly refer to it as 'classism')#after all it was *Elizabeth* who was more vulnerable than any queen before her due to her lack of powerful foreign or national support#and Elizabeth who faced a form of propaganda distinctly unprecedented for queens. it SHOULD be emphasized more.

More things I think would happen if Jeeves and Wooster were on DS9
Part 1 Part 1.5
It's a bit harder in space than in London for Bertie's relatives and school friends to track him down and beg for favors. Unfortunately, Jeeves’s reputation as a problem-solver has spread around the station, and the problems Bertie's NEW friends bring to him are even more ridiculous.
Week after week: "Help, I got Zanthi fever at the Gratitude Festival and now my fiancée won't speak to me"—"I love a girl from a few star systems over, but on her homeworld unmarried men and women are only allowed to communicate via each other's same-gender parent and her mom hates me"—"Your Uncle Tom wants a rare silver thing but this asshole Ferengi trader won't let him have it" (sometimes his relatives DO visit)
When he doesn’t end up with dubiously legal, stolen, or dangerous alien merchandise smuggled aboard his ship against his will (and also when he does), he keeps managing to stumble coincidentally into the exact combination of words and actions that make up some alien culture's courtship ritual (nobody told him that on Glorgon, pushing somebody into a body of water is considered the first step in a marriage proposal!)
The Gussie/Madeline/Spode love triangle follows him to space, obviously. No matter where he is in the galaxy, fiancé(e)s of the week will come and go, but the Gussie/Madeline/Spode love triangle is a universal constant. There is no galaxy or universe he can escape to where the triangle will not follow.
I feel like this goes without saying, but Gussie is a human scientist stationed on Bajor to study newts native amphibious life forms found in the planet's rivers. He and Bertie still went to school together. Spode is a firebrand Bajoran nationalist politician who had ties to the Circle before their failed coup, but not quite enough for anything to be proved against him.
Bassett Madeline is a Bajoran astronomer who writes poetry on the side and visits the station sometimes to help with research on the wormhole. She’s actually a very qualified scientist, but there’s nothing stopping her from knowing how the stars work AND believing they’re the Prophets’ daisy chain.
Kira really, REALLY wants to like her. She wants to like her so badly. Another highly accomplished religious Bajoran woman is visiting, she should be thrilled! They have so much to talk about! Madeline's fervor toward their shared faith is nothing less than admirable and inspiring and an example to us all, and not at ALL "mawkish" or "a bit much," JULIAN, and no Kira does NOT have a headache, but on second thoughts maybe she should head to the infirmary just in case.
Fortunately, Madeline is usually on the station to work with Jadzia, who regards her mushy tendencies with gentle amusement.
Kira eventually warms to Madeline somewhat when, one day, she (Madeline) visits the station after a fight with Gussie, and Jadzia, taking pity, invites her to play Camelot with her and Kira in the holosuites. Kira has to grit her teeth through the first half, but the three of them end up bonding when something inevitably goes wrong with the safety protocols and they have to fight a real dragon or something. Kira still wouldn't call Madeline her best friend, but she can find it in herself to tolerate the daisy-chain talk with a more bonhomous spirit.
Bertie has no idea any of this is happening, but is just grateful that Jadzia managed to whisk Madeline off to the holosuites before she could try to marry HIM again. He has the Bajoran Rite of Separation memorized by heart and he's running out of bowls.
He also isn't sure what all that was about when Jadzia assured him that she's got this, don't worry about it, you go on and spend some quality time with Jeeves, and then winked at him. Or why this made Jeeves tighten his jaw by the minutest degree and disappear to "supervise repairs," even though Bertie is almost certain there are no repairs left to be done.
It's all a bit rummy, but Jadzia is a dependable sort of cove, and if she says there's nothing to worry about then he trusts there's nothing to worry about. She's a bit like Jeeves in that respect, what? So he shrugs it off and goes to play darts with Julian and Miles instead.
Bertie is obviously a common fixture at the dartboard in Quark's. He also plays tennis with Julian sometimes (Miles being kind of done with tennis after what happened last time). Quark tried to start a betting pool on their games one time, but hit a snag when it turned out that many of the non-human bar customers had trouble telling the competitors apart.
Bertie once sat with Jadzia over a couple drinks as she patiently tried to explain the concept of joined Trill to him (he had been asking about why Sisko calls her "old man"). The discussion ended with Jadzia kindly patting him on the shoulder and inviting him to a game of Dabo.
As it happens, there weren't really any repairs to be done on the ship, but in pretending he was carrying out inspections Jeeves DID discover a hidden device on the warp engine that would have caused everyone on the station to hallucinate their worst enemy's face onto random strangers when the engine was engaged, so the day wasn't a complete wash.
(He kept the device instead of reporting it, naturally. You never know what might come in handy some day. But the plot would have fallen apart anyway, as the aliens who'd planted it suddenly found themselves succumbing to infighting after their first officer received an anonymous message alerting them to the fact that the captain had been planning to short the crew on their pay.)
#i know bassett madeline isn't a bajoran-sounding name you're gonna have to overlook that#we can say it's spelled ba'sett maadalyn or something if you want#i think spode could be an alien's name though#at some point during his talk with jadzia bertie tried to contextualize everything for himself#by fitting it into his own gender paradigm of rabbits/non-rabbits and dashers/dormice#with the result that now they're both confused and nothing has been cleared up#deep space nine#ds9#j&w star trek au#jeeves and wooster#jooster#j&w#bertie wooster#reginald jeeves

my cardinal sin as a comic artist who draws shinichi with people other than ran post-canon is my compulsive need to stop everything at one point and go "OKAY EVERYONE HERE'S THE RAN SITUATION. JUST SO YOU KNOW!! HERE'S THE RAN SITUATION..."

Still working on the spicy Hans Gruber x Reader fic and I want to add in German phrasing but I'm worried if 1) I'm using it correctly 2) is accurate within the time frame cause brother I don't speak German and I'm doing my best to look up various sources and not have to resort to Google translate
#mcrambles#like sure its a fic take creative liberties in terms of time frame whatever#but i dont wanna look stupid to anyone that does speak it and reads it and goes yeah this writer doesnt know what the fuck theyre doing#granted i could only grow from those mistakes and thats where the feedback comes in#like i do gotta remind myself that no one automatically knows everything and you can only grow from where you are#my german lineage is taking a hit though so sorry to the past relatives who immigrated from Germany#but tbh i never knew you anyway plus depending on the time frame of when you immigrated im not sure if id want to know you its contextual#same goes with my spanish lineage as well both of my family sides are fair game for being insulted

from sludge to sludge
#sketch#sketches#sketchbook#artists on tumblr#thinking abt the way the internet smushes everything togeher until everything is fungible and worthless#Al art is the most literal version of that. its an obliterative de-contextualization. it uncreates meaning#i had to look at many Al images for work. i started to look at the abstract shapes in my sketches#and wonder how my art is changed by Al. as it was changed by every other wave of change on the internet
