Batman: "Please tell me you have a Signal action figure now?"

Batmn: *long heavy sigh* " Of course he did."
~*~*~
Red Hood, driving the batmobile for some reason: "I need 10,000 of one of literally anything you carry other than the Night Wings. I literally don't carry what it is."
Signal: "And one order of Robin Nuggets."
Red Hood: "And one order of Robin Nuggets. We Are Robin limited edition version if you have it."

Nightwing, driving the batmobile for some reason: "I need 6 orders of Night Wings, please."
Red Robin: "There are only two of us? And I don't want Night Wings?"
Nightwing: "Nah, that just cause Hood's trying to steal my lead. I'll get you anything you want other than the Caped Crusader Sandwhich though."
~*~*~
Batman: "No, you may not borrow the Batmobile."
Robin: "It's a right of passage!"
Batman: "You are too young to have earned that right yet."
Spoiler: "Ha! He called you a baby!"
~*~*~
Spoiler, driving the batmobile for some reason: "Do you guys have any glitter?"
Drive Thru Cashier: "Ma'am, this is a fast food restaurant."
Spoiler:
Spoiler: "How many packets of ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise can you legally give me?"
Drive Thru Cashier:
Drive Thru Cashier after checking with the manager: "50 packets of each."
Spoiler: "I'll take them!"
~*~*~
Robin, driving the batmobile clearly without permission: "I require 2 Robin Meals. One vegan."
Superboy the 2nd: "Oh! I want a Red Hood toy!"
Robin: "What?! Absolutely not! We will take the current Robin toy! A Nightwing if that's not available!"
Superboy the 2nd: "NOOO! I WANT RED HOOD!"
Red Hood, apparently in the back seat of the batmobile: "Dear God. MAKE IT 4 ROBIN MEALS, PLEASE, ANS GIVE THEM BOTH WHAT THEY WANT SO THEY SHUT UP."
Superboy the 2nd happily: "As long as I get my Red Hood."
Robin grumbling: "Ridiculous. Stop acting so thirsty for it."
Red Hood: *strangled, choking noises*
Superboy the 2nd: *mortified squeal* "ROBIN! That is NOT what that MEANS!"

what's fun about shipping Tim with Dick, Jason, or Damian is he has, at some point, hallucinated all of them to comfort himself. even when he doesn't like them or particularly get along with them, he has to imagine/hallucinate them just so he has the power to go on. Tim's concepts of the Robin mantle and what it should be is so fun, because he respects the others through the Robin mantle. Tim worships Dick because he was the first Robin. he wouldn't be Robin if Jason hadn't died in the mantle. and a lot of his frustration with Damian is he feels Damian isn't honoring the mantle correctly. when you ship Tim with the other Robins you can't divorce their identities as Robin from it because Tim will always see them as a Robin first and that's so fun and fucked up. like.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
batman (1940) #456
Tim perceiving Dick as *Robin* cheering him on, not Nightwing, which is the version of Dick that Tim actually knows? that's just. wild of him. he will always view Dick as Robin first, his personal hero but also the original of the legacy. his love for Dick is shaped by that.
and then of course, even when he's hallucinating/imagining Jason cheering him on, it's *still* through the lense of being reminded how Jason failed? subconsciously believing that Jason got himself killed because of his actions, and that being a lesson for Tim to learn from? Jason isn't a person to Tim, he's a moral lesson about how to be Robin. any potential idolization he could have of Jason isn't because he loves Jason, it's because of the lessons Jason's death taught him.
and then, even though him hallucinating TIm is from the New-52, which makes characterization all kinds of questionable, i do think it makes sense for TIm to hallucinate/imagine Damian after Damian's death in an attempt to cope with it.
Tumblr media
teen titans (2011) #18
to an extend, he sees Damian's death as in part his own fault. and even hating Damian, Tim needs the comfort from this to cope with Damian being gone. he's angry that Damian even was Robin, and has to learn something from Damian's death and how it impacts the Robin mantle, and teenage heroes as a whole. like, Tim can pretend he hates Damian all he wants, even getting taunted by the image of Damian, but there's still an underlying love to their relationship.
i think that's just the fun of shipping Tim with any of them. you will never divorce Tim's views of them from the Robin mantle and how fucking Unwell he is about anyone else who's been Robin before or after him, to the point he has to hallucinate them comforting him when he's at his lowest. it's always going to be a little unhealthy, a little toxic, and driven by Tim's relationship with being Robin as well. i need more Tim being weird about Robin in these ships.
#necrotic festerings#batcest#jaytim#dicktim#damitim#this post was first going to just be about tim hallucinating damian but i got carried away thinking about the identity crisis arc#have whatever this is.#idk if there's much of a thesis other than “tim's fucking weird about the robin mantle and that should extend to shipping too”#been meaning to post this for forever#finally got around to it though so yay me.#now i need to go work on my jaytim in the new-52 thoughts bc. i have a whole post planned.#a stack of comics next to me for research and everything. god help me.#ALSO while rereading to grab panels#why is it that everyone talks about how jason says “robin is magic” in an attempt to mischaracterize him as sunshine boy#and not the fact that tim *also* says robin is magic?#like it's not a jason thing. it's a robin mantle thing.#that's just what robin *is*. it doesn't say much about jason's character for him to say that when he's robin. it just means he's robin.#the robin mantle is magic. that's the point.#and you could argue that's more of a meta thing that exists on the wavelength of how children where supposed to project onto robin#moreso than an in-universe commentary on what the robin mantle is#(honestly the same argument applies to tim hallucinating here for like. meta intent vs in-universe meaning.)#i hesitate to even call it hallucination it's more like. daydreaming coping.#giving a face to his internal monologue type thing and this is just how the medium depicts it#also it was just sexy and cool for characters to hallucinate loved ones in the 90s in comics. it was a convention of the genre.#but still my point stands. tim pictures all of these ppl as robin first internally#and he self soothes using their image in his head. that's wild of him like what#tim you are weird about the robin mantle more than anyone else i give you that.

PSA: Respect is Minding Your Own Damn Business
Let's have a little chat about what basic respect actually is. Now, this isn't contemporarily political, so don't run away screaming into the night just yet. Stick with me. I know it's hard in the age of TikTok and doomscrolling, but stick with me. Tim Walz articulated a pretty good idea of respect not even a year ago:
Tumblr media
[...] because in Minnesota, we respect our neighbors and the personal choices they make. And even if we wouldn't make those same choices for ourselves, we've got a golden rule: mind your own damn business.
This applies anywhere and everywhere in this world you happen to find yourself. I know, I know, it's the zeitgeist to look at this or that and say it's problematic, that it's triggering, that it's whatever. I'm not going to lecture you about the abject failure of purity culture to do anything besides divide people, make the perfect the enemy of the good, and give those who actually are the devout enemies of inclusivity and cosmopolitanism all the ammunition they could ever dream of. I'd be here all day if I was going to do that, and it still wouldn't be enough.
Instead, I want to ignore the forest for the dirt, and focus on some basic concepts that seem to have been forgotten both here and more generally in society:
Just because you like something doesn't make it good.
Just because you don't like something doesn't make it bad.
Liking good things doesn't make you a good person.
Liking bad things doesn't make you a bad person.
Being nice does not mean being kind.
Being kind does not mean being nice.
Someone engaging with problematic material does not mean they are problematic.
Someone not engaging with problematic material does not mean they aren't problematic.
Unless something actually presents a real, tangible physical, emotional, or psychological danger to others with intent to harm or exploit, it is not your business to point it out or "warn" others. It is also not your personal decision as to what constitutes real, tangible danger. You are not an authority. You do not have credentials. You are not held accountable by the public. You were not voted for by the public or appointed by representatives. It's not your business.
I could go on. I think you ought to begin to understand: respect is leaving people well enough alone if they're not hurtin' nobody, and "hurtin' nobody" doesn't include things like "they said a thing I disagree with" or "they said something that was true but it hurt my feelings". That's free speech. Now, I could have a whole entire diversion here about how free speech cannot survive including hate speech—and how hate speech can be much more than advocating for harm, and can include the normalization of hateful actors—but we're not talking about that because we're taking baby steps here.
It is okay for you (or someone else!) to like bad things, even openly, and doing so doesn't make you (or them!) a bad person. Now, hold on, I'm not defending pedophiles or rapists or racists or misogynists or whatever else here, let alone saying they have a right to promote their viewpoints. Don't get it twisted. Those are not simply bad things, and you know I'm not talking about those kinds of matters when I talk about it being okay to like bad things. You know exactly what I'm actually talking about.
You know what I'm talking about includes acknowledging those listed things actually do exist and happen, and that censoring ourselves about their existence or happening doesn't make them go away. You know that what I am advocating for includes being able to discuss the existence of such things (and much more) in a mature, adult way, that is respectful and sophisticated, especially within art. I am not talking about fetishizing it, glorifying it, or whatever else.
You know that in an age where people are self-censoring and saying "unalived" instead of "killed" and "unalived themselves" instead of "committed suicide", and it's considered "cringe", that all this has gone too far. You know that in an age of book bans and government censorship, all this has gone too far and been weaponized by the worst people you know of.
So, let's do something about it. But first, let's go over some examples, because this has been highly theoretical so far.
A piece of fiction that includes infidelity as part of its structure is not in fact promoting or glamorizing or normalizing infidelity. Even if it was, with characters openly saying things like, "Infidelity is amazing!" protesting that particular piece of fiction would not change the rate of infidelity in the real world. To complain about the media would, in fact, be avoidant of the issue—pretending one is doing something while actually doing nothing. This is usually called "ragebait" these days.
I think guns are fascinating machines, even if they are only machines made to put holes in things (usually people). I sometimes watch videos about guns. I sometimes talk about guns. I sometimes think about guns. I have never owned a gun in my life. I have never even handled a real gun—the closest I've gotten was an airsoft M4. Do you see the separation between thinking about a subject, engaging with a subject, supporting a subject, promoting a subject, and actively utilizing a subject? Even someone who owns guns and promotes gun ownership is probably not regularly shooting people with them.
My main muse, Yoruichi, is the tropenamer for the TVTropes entry "Ambiguously Brown". She's right there on the page. I have seen people in the wild make statements like, "If you think Yoruichi is brown and not black, you're a racist." We could argue back and forth all day on her ethnicity, but the truth is it doesn't matter. If it mattered it would've been stated. Some possibilities are perhaps more likely than others, but she can be whatever you want to imagine her to be. Likewise, some people think she was in the form of a cat for a century; some dubiously canon sources promote that idea, and some people run with it. I'm not one of them. I've stated my opposition to that take here, in my own personal space, but do you know what I've never done? Gone and jumped down the throat of someone who took up and propagated that idea with a public callout wherein I trash them as a racist and a misogynist who actually secretly hates Yoruichi and wants to tear her down and dehumanize her. I haven't done that because that would be insane to do in like 99.99% of cases, and the remaining 0.01% would almost certainly be "ragebait".
Now that I'm finally talking about muses, let's really dial in on roleplaying.
I don't go police what other people do with Yoruichi because even if I do style myself an expert on her (let's be real: the expert on her) I don't have any authority to tell other people what to think about her. I can present my ideas and other people can take them or leave them, but that's on them, not on me. It's not my business to tell others what to think, how, why, when, where, or to whom. It's only my business to state my opinion in my space. My opinion might be informed by facts and evidence, or it might simply be my opinion. My opinion might be as close to factually correct as could be, or it might be as far away as could be—and even if I had all the facts on my side, roleplaying is a transformative activity where people can do what they want.
It would be wrong of me to go out and hit other people with my opinions like a cudgel. It would also be equally wrong of other people to come here and attack me for my opinions. This is why being a hater or an anti is stupid: content doesn't just flash into your mind unbidden. You usually have to go out and look for it, and even if it comes to you, you have to choose to look at it or read it, and then you almost always have the option to block, unfollow, say you don't want to see the post, or simply exercise some self-control and choose to ignore it.
The only time you reasonably ought to say something if you see content you don't care to see is if something has been said which is factually untrue, and even then you're not Snopes: it's not your job to be public fact-checker. In the case of roleplaying, this occurring is even less likely.
So, your opinions! It's okay if you don't like something! You can make your dislike known in your space. You should, in fact. It's your responsibility to establish your boundaries and to curate the content that you see. That's entirely on you. Whatever you have to do to make your space comfortable for you? Go right ahead! No one can complain.
The moment you step outside your space though, all bets are off. If you put one toe over the threshold in order to tell someone else to not make certain kinds of content, not do certain things, not talk about certain things? You're in the wrong. You're the problematic one. You're the bad guy—yes, the bad guy—because what you are trying to do is censor other people for the sake of your own comfort.
What gives you the right? What could ever give you the right? Nothing. You're not entitled to be the Thoughtpolice for any reason whatsoever, unless as long-ago specified there is some real, tangible danger occurring.
When you act like you're the one who gets to decide what is and isn't acceptable for people to put forward, you're fundamentally being a disrespectful asshole. You're inherently acting like you're the adult, and the stupid children over there need to be yelled at to stop doing whatever—or else.
When this happens in real life, we call it "being a Karen". Well, don't be a Karen here either. Nobody wants it. If you can't articulate a real, tangible danger, keep your mouth shut and stay in your lane, because that's the fundamental basis of respect. You know as much too, which is why everybody and their mother writes some variant on "muse does not equal mun" in their rules.
If you can't adhere to that most basic definition of respect, you don't belong here.

Picture this--
Gojo being "The Strongest", but also Nanami being the "strongest". Lemme lay it down for you--
Nanago but everytime they bring home bags of groceries, gojo is the one incharge of putting away the groceries because his noodle arms "hurt too much from all the bags!" and "they give me the weirdo red line thingys and i cannot do that do my perfect complexion, thank you very much" and "im too pretty to carry all of these kento!! Carry them home for me?"
Nanago but gojo always gives the kids nanamis workout routine everytime they ask for tips to get stronger and hit harder. Nanami is always flattered and always makes time to guide them thru his routine and specialize parts of it for each of them like a personal trainer. Gojo always appreciates the free eye candy of a sweaty nanami in workout clothes
Nanago but gojo wins every strength based competition he and nanami have, only thru significant effort, because if it was literally anyone else he would've dogwalked them. If everyone lasts 1 second to him in an arm wrestling contest, nanami would last like-- 3 to 5 seconds. Which is a lot, considering gojo
Nanago but nanami could literally hold gojo on the palm of his hand. Like. Gojo is straight up standing on the palm of his hand. Could do backflips on that tiny surface with how stable he is.
A nanago where both of them are strong but nanami is stronger-ish than gojo is SO GOOD TO ME
Because like it makes sense!! IT MAKES SO MUCH FUCKING SENSEEE-- Both in his love and dedication to gojo, and in story
The first part is p obvious, hes much too caring and responsible to let gojo waste away and be taken advantage of by the higher ups. Hell knows that nanamis gone thru enough of that being a salaryworker taken advantage of and worked to the ground by his superiors. He's righteous, and wants only the best for himself and his loved ones--if theyre in a bad place and he can do something abt it, u bet ur ass hes gonna do it, even if it wont do much
2nd part is less obvious but will deffo hit u in the face like a sack of bricks if u think abt it. Nanami’s technique, Ratio, relies entirely on him and his own strength. Because while yes, you can make a weak point, what does it matter if you cant hit it properly? If you cant hit it hard enough? Its like going into a boss fight where the bbeg has a giant red glowing weak point. Yeah sure itll do decent damage if you hit it with a level 1 weapon, but if you hit it with a maxxed out weapon-- then holy hell baby, youre going to the races. So OF COURSE, nanami would get built like a brick shit house. He needs to to properly utilize it and bring out its full potential
I JUST--
Nanago where gojo is still the strongest but nanami wants to shoulder some of gojos impossible and back-breaking responsibilities on his own shoulders, so he becomes his own version of "The Strongest" in his own way
Anyways HEHE--
Gojo, smirking like a maniac to megumi: watch this-- if I run and leap at nanami, he will most certainly catch me in his arms!
Megumi, disbelieving: uh huh, sure, yeah. Oh-- oh wait you're actually doing it--
Gojo, running at full speed towards Nanami: coming in, babe!!
Nanami, having just come into the room: no, nO WAIT I HAVE COFFEE-- (catches gojo anyways)

Ppl with romantic f/os who are parents before you meet them
Imagine how happy they’d be to see how much you care about their kid/s.
It’s always a worry that a new partner won’t like your family, so they’d be so relieved that you absolutely adore their kid/s. Whenever you do things to bond with them (taking them out places, doing activities with them, playing with them, being there for them in tough times ect), it makes your romantic f/o feel so warm inside. Even little things like having your f/o *and* their kid/s as your lockscreen, pointing out things that remind you of kid/s, ect ect, just melts your partner.
And, IF they’re comfortable with it, imagine the kid/s actually calling you as their father/mother/parent. Giving you things for father’s/mother’s day, stuff like that.

thinking about this post but also it's more than that. do you ever think about how stories starring men are allowed to be about humanity but stories starring women have to be about Womanhood
#it's just the same discourse from like the 2010s about how girls will read about boys but boys won't read about girls#and we haven't gotten anywhere#even when it's like in a feminist way!!! there's room for stories about Womanhood obviously#but believe it or not ''women'' is not the only significant trait or experience that that half of the population has#and frankly I think it's counterproductive to focus every woman-centric narrative on the Woman aspect in some kind of feminism way#especially I feel like in adaptations that get a more hashtag feminism focus! like that story was about a person that was a woman#and you made it into a story about Women. which. ok#but was it not enough for her to just be a human being#experiencing human experiences that perhaps men could relate to#but a story with a male main character is allowed to exist on its own terms#no one's like. okay the main theme of this is obviously something to do with masculinity#(unless that's actually true)#a man is still the default character to explore your ideas and adding the ''girl'' trait is seen as like this extra distortion#that you would add only if you wanted to explore Womenness#like everyone's putting a guy in situations but hey maybe your guy could be a woman#even if the specific situation doesn't call for it#did you ever think of that?#and a lot of it I think is because men are conditioned not to relate to female characters#so making a male character would work to expand your audience because female readers are still willing to invest in him but not vice versa#but that doesn't mean we should just keep perpetuating the cycle#and only making stories about women specifically for women about Womanhood#that's just cementing the problem even further#obviously this is all a generalization and there are exceptions#this also applies to things like race#like in the US if you're making a story with a nonwhite main character suddenly it has to be like About Race or something

Mansfield Park paints a very vivid picture of a world convicted of sin but without any access to or even imagination of grace or forgiveness. Edmund, whose morals are held up as impeccable, is literally ordained to the priesthood in the course of the novel—but where, in all his principles, is Jesus? is redemption? is the Cross? Fanny is held up as Henry’s salvation, but she can only guarantee the right guidance of his future actions, there is no repentance or forgiveness for his old ways. and if there is no way for his former sins to find their place in the story of his salvation (if I’d chosen differently I never would have met you! o happy fault!), is it any wonder he falls back into them?? there is no Christ figure, there is only Victorian duty. it leaves everyone but the perfect out in the cold.

Those polls "could xyz character survive the Reaper's Game" have people tend to forget that the main reason why anyone would survive the Game isn't because they are smart or talented, because they would be able to solve puzzles or defeat noise, but because... they are able to change.
Shibuya's Reaper Game isn't like any Reaper's Game. They take an entry fee, being what one's value most, and that loss forces people through a difficult situation they can only solve by growing as a person. Shiki would've been erased had she not been able to accept herself as she was. Beat would've been erased had he not been able to accept to ask for help so he could protect what mattered to him. Neku would've been erased had he not been able to learn to expand his world and trust his partners.
Of course, people changing (for the better) means their Soul gets more refined and thus their Imagination level rises, but having high levels of Imagination from the start isn't all it takes for someone to win the Reaper's Game! So yeah to me, the only question you might need to answer when replying to these polls is : "Would this character be able to have character growth?" Most often yes. But sometimes... you might be surprised.

team urameshi’s moral alignments, and how that impacts the kuwameshi dynamic (and also some stuff about hiei)
not quite the promised narrative parallels follow up just yet, but hopefully this is good enough in the meantime!
given yusuke and kuwabara’s nature as rivals first and foremost, i’ve found their dynamic at its core is largely defined by their contrasting values/moral codes (or lack thereof.) these differences, i believe, are a key factor in why they make such a good duo, both romantically and otherwise.
something i’ve always really loved about kuwabara, for instance, is how he is constantly a tether to yusuke’s humanity, showing how kuwabara is willing to challenge him not only physically, but philosophically. and yes ik that’s likely a needlessly fancy way of phrasing it but hear me out, right?
i’ve found that team urameshi exists on a scale of humanitarianism: the left side being where hiei resides, and the right, kuwabara. kurama exists somewhere between the middle and left, still compassionate enough to seek out mercy wherever viable, but willing to get his hands dirty if the situation demands it. i believe yusuke exists in the exact middle of this scale, which reflects his status as a half-demon, allowing him to swing one way or the other depending on the situation. spontaneous as always!
i actually went ahead and made a little visual accompaniment to better illustrate what i’m talking abt here, bc im a goddamn nerd
Tumblr media
it’s very rough looking but whatever it’s a tumblr post. would very much like to know any greater thoughts anyone has on the placements made here, particularly kurama bc he is easily the most morally layered out of these four. i live for the discussion aspect of these things hehehehehe
ANYWAY back to the aforementioned twink (more of a twunk, really.) the interesting part about this application of the scale metaphor is that it more or less visualizes hiei and kuwabara as the theoretical devil and angel on yusuke's shoulders, which may not be too far off from the roles they play in yusuke's life, something we see most often shown in the dark tournament.
for hiei, this manifests as him often being the one to push yusuke to finish things quickly, without consideration for greater consequence because either it’s more efficient or “it must be done.” hell, most of the time he goes beyond that and just. does it himself. bc he’s hiei and yk what we love him for that. this attitude fed into yusuke’s affinity for doing things the easy way, rather than the “right” or most traditionally morally upright way, which one could argue only further chipped away at yusuke’s already fraying tether to his humanity.
in particular, i think of the moments just before kuwabara vs. risho, where yusuke and hiei had more or less decided they were just gonna blow the whole stadium sky-high when faced with possible disqualification.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
in response to yusuke’s increasing anger, hiei — being the absolute anarchist he is — is quick to suggest they do away with the tournament as a whole, securing themselves a victory by relying on survival of the fittest, something hiei is quite familiar with given his hephaestus trauma and general upbringing in makai. basically, “fuck that noise, this shit is rigged anyway. lets pop SEVERAL caps in their asses and be done with it.”
and of course, given his temperament and previously stated leanings, yusuke is quick to concede to hiei’s point regardless of the fact it would be endangering literally everyone in the vicinity including their allies in the stands. but neither of them consider that— or perhaps, they just don’t care in this moment. which could honestly lead me into a whole other analysis of how fundamentally similar yusuke and hiei are, BUT THATS FOR ANOTHER DAY….
either way, yusuke definitely would’ve gone through with this plan if not for kuwabara volunteering himself for the round in spite of his debilitating injuries, which leads me to kuwabara’s opposing force, and (finally,) the kuwameshi aspect to all of this.
kuwabara’s a character known for his strict moral code, and he’s no stranger to preaching openly to others about said “honor code.” and of course, as his rival, yusuke is far from an exception to this. at multiple points throughout the series he can be seen lambasting yusuke’s amoral behavior, such as what is seen in the build up to kuwabara v. risho.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it’s common knowledge to anyone who’s read/watched yu yu hakusho that yusuke is a character who behaves almost entirely upon impulse; it’s something established as early as chapter 15!
Tumblr media
as a consequence, he’s extremely reckless; one could even say inconsiderate or hedonistic. it’s one of the fundamentals of his character! he’s incredibly flawed, and his morality is painted in shades of grey as a direct result. and here, we see kuwabara challenging this directly. it’s done in a way that speaks volumes to what these two mean to each other, as well, given the fact that shortly after, we see that yusuke has allowed kuwabara to step up to the plate.
kuwabara holds a unique position when it comes to yusuke in the sense that he remains a constant tether to yusuke’s morality. granted, keiko also holds a similar position, but while her tether to his humanity is more physical, given her role as the “girl at home,” kuwabara’s is an ethical one, in how his philosophy has shaped yusuke and pushes him to do better. though granted, they’re both emotional tethers to yusuke’s humanity. keiko and kuwabara stop paralleling each other challenge. it’s rlly not helping yusuke beat the bisexual allegations.
either way, kuwabara’s bullheaded determination to go the straight and narrow no matter the seeming futility of it is something that has left a noticeable mark on yusuke, enough so that when he sees that effort be tossed aside or taken for granted, yusuke— for lack of a better term— crashes the fuck out.
Tumblr media
it means a lot to him! that fundamental goodness in kuwabara that yusuke didn’t even see himself, until chapter 7 showed him plain and simple that kuwabara’s genuinely just a great guy. and so even though yusuke’s own internal philosophy tends to align more with hiei’s “survival of the fittest” outlook on the world, he still finds real value in kuwabara’s beliefs, remaining fiercely protective of those ideals and the boy that holds them. enter the eternal cycle of: kuwabara tries to do heroic shit, gets absolutely blasted, yusuke has a full on fucking crash out, powers up, wins, repeat. still, kuwabara will always challenge yusuke in this way, and yusuke will in turn always challenge him. it’s what makes their bond so special, because really, all yusuke wants is someone who can match his pace and shove back when he pushes. and luckily for him, while yusuke’s certainly stubborn, kuwabara may be even more so.
it harkens back to the earliest days of their relationship, the quintessential example of unstoppable force (kuwabara) vs. immovable object (yusuke.) only now, while he has yet to overcome yusuke physically, kuwabara (likely without even realizing it himself) has earned yusuke’s respect enough that when he tells yusuke that winning the tournament the clean way is the best route, yusuke listens— which, getting yusuke to listen to ANYONE other than himself is a goddamn miracle. he won’t even listen to KEIKO, and that girl’s got him wrapped around her finger approx. 13 times over.
kuwabara pushes yusuke to be better, basically, and yusuke is receptive to that because he genuinely respects kuwabara’s input in spite of all the ribbing they engage in (though i do maintain that he definitely has some… thoughts on kuwabara’s methods. cough cough ichigaki.) im contrasting this aspect of kuwabara with hiei, here, but really, a much more explicitly kuwameshi adjacent parallel that makes me even crazier is kuwabara and itsuki, but that could be a whole post on its own.
this is something the source material (IN THE DUB) may have acknowledged, too, with genkai’s parting words to kuwabara before her demise at the hands of toguro. she tells kuwabara, “You have a gentle heart. Use it.” what exactly this could be referring to specifically remains ambiguous (likely bc it’s a dub specific piece of dialogue), but given how the line is framed by genkai requesting kuwabara tell yusuke not to follow her, and the camera panning to yusuke’s sleeping face to conclude the scene, i’d figure it involves him. in specific, i believe this is in reference to the crux of this analysis: kuwabara’s influence over yusuke’s moral decisions. perhaps she felt kuwabara may have been able to sway yusuke, or at the very least hold him off from doing something too rash and marching right into death. who knows? this line doesn’t even rlly matter anyway bc it’s not even present in the original translation but WTVR my analysis my rules.
overall, this is just one example of how yusuke and kuwabara make up for one another’s individual shortcomings/blind spots to create a better whole. in soso many ways, they make each other better!! but they can also make each other worse, and i’m not just talking about the insane codependency that kuwabara develops by the time three kings begins. ALAS, i have not the time to divulge right now. either way, these two mean so much to each other, and honestly, i think they should kiss about it. hold hands, maybe. i know their asses were cuddling during the dark tournament. they should get married but instead of kissing after their “i do”s they punch each other in the mouth.
that’s pretty much all i’ve gotta say on this subject as of right now. this ended up way longer than i anticipated uhhh whoops. tune in next time for how yusuke’s negative traits rub off on kuwabara, as opposed to kuwabara’s positive traits rubbing off on yusuke and HOPEFULLY that plot analysis that’ll give more context to what i’m talking about here. do hope this was more kuwameshi specific than my last little analysis bc it was. barely shippy at all. forgive me.
OH YEAH ALSO if any of yall have any thoughts on this, whether it be adding onto this analysis or even pointing out something you personally disagree with, i’d love to hear your input!! discussion makes me go YIPPIE and i’d love to engage :D

i think it’s be really fun to come up with names for different duos and trios and groups etc, esp if they dont already have one. i think its common in most fandoms to give ships little nicknames but i think it’d be fun to do with platonic dynamics as well! not necessarily a shipping™️ thing. so i made a little list with some m!ik ones, some are based off different translations or arcs, some are based on aesthetics and/or personalities, etc + if u have some as well id love to hear em!

tbh i think that even unwinnable fights should be winnable. some of the BEST fights i've ever run as a dm were ones i built kill the players (in a fun way. I had some cutscenes prepped so even the loss would be a different flavour of win)- but then they were clever bastards and managed to either win the fights or pull themselves out of trouble. I think it's perfectly fine to plan for a fight that players aren't supposed to win, but you need to let them. if they can't win, they can't lose, and the meaning of that encounter is diminished. do that too many times, and they stop trusting you to give them roleplay prompts and start expecting to sit there waiting while you drive the story for them.
but if they can win... if there is always the chance to win, no matter how impossible the odds, then they ALWAYS have hope. they always get invested. they feel the big emotions of success or the big emotions of failure, and you fucking Win as a dm/roleplay prompter/lead bastard.
