still currently reading Blood Over Bright Haven by M.L. Wang. it's so on-the-nose with its interrogation of the themes that it doesn't leave the reader with more dirt to dig around in, which i guess is fine with me. i prefer it more than plotty books that say absolutely nothing. i'm around chapter 9 & i really like how Sciona is so fucking unlikable & so callous with her worldviews & so unfathomably blinded by her ambition that she doesn't pause to consider how her success means she will eventually hurt, possibly kill(?) tons of people. or even if her dynamic with Thomil gives her pause, it doesn't necessarily influence her to change her course because she can't see past her own prejudices, & into the bigger picture. i also like how Thomil is able to challenge & shift her so directly, that you then start to question what it says about the responsibility of someone in a marginalized position to educate people on their privilege. in this case, it's because he has no choice but to continue working with her, because quitting will likely lead to capital punishment if Sciona chooses to inflict it on him. then you also get flashes of Sciona viewing Thomil in this romantic lens, which might definitely pull some ao3 trope enjoyers in, but it's so insidious when you think about the power imbalance between them. like get a grip girl just because he's the first man to listen & talk to you without insulting you doesn't mean you can fawn over him. it's soooo interesting. the "utopian" society they live in is called Tiran, btw. yeah, like Tyranny. crazy!!!!!!

The grey havens is a mental hospital that Frodo had to check himself into. Unfortunately, it's in the city, so that meant he had to move away from the small town he grew up in. His boyfriend Sam still lives in town because he couldn't leave his job and family. But he drives out to visit on long weekends and video calls him all the time.

One time on a daily video call, Frodo is overwhelmed with emotion and hates not having Sam there. "You're too far away."

Sam moves closer to the camera so Frodo can see him. "Is that better?"

toji can’t wait to get back home. all he wants is to finish his work asap, goes home and holds you in his arms. he’s exhausted because his works keep on piling up and all he could think about is you.

he had been neglecting you for days now because something went wrong at work and he has to deal with them which means, working overtime until the issue at work is resolved. he gets up early than usual and goes back home pretty late. usually by the time he arrives home, you’d already be in bed and sleeping like a baby.

however, the issue is almost resolved and he’s excited to go back home and spend time with you. big chance, he’s gonna take a few days of work leave so that he can make it up to you. he feels bad because he kept cancelling the date nights or dinner plans that the both of you had planned.

toji turns to look at the clock. 8:30 pm, it reads. he gets up from his seat and makes his way to his boss’ office to ask for approval regarding the work he’s doing before he can turn it in and goes back home. his work got approved and he asks;

“ hey boss, is it possible for me to get a few days off of work ? ”

his boss turns to look at him and flashes him a smile before answering; “ you have been working very hard to fix the error. you deserve some time off of work to rest and get your energy so sure ! tell you what, don’t bother leaving your leave form for me to sign. as a reward, you and your team get to be off of work for a week ! ”

his boss extended his hand to shake toji’s hand and he congratulated toji for going out of his way to fix the errors. he thanked his boss, walked out of his office and makes his way to wherever his team is to share the good news with them.

by the time he was done, he immediately packed all of his things and made his way back home while thinking of ways to make it up to you.
