We're now in the home stretch of this show. I have now had time to think about the line I was having difficulty processing in the wee morning hours.

And yeah, I was just overthinking that one. He's basically talking about not wanting to deal with what he had done in the past, and who he feels he is as a person. He was hiding from Ju-yeong. He was hiding from himself. He thinks he's come to terms with himself now, but my man really needs therapy. These dialogue lines are still showing an internalized message about who he "thinks" he is as a human being and person, and they're not positive.

Anyways, we left off on Hyeon-ho wishing Do-hoe a "happy" life in the future. There's really a lot of weight in this wish. You know Hyeon-ho loves Do-hoe in his own way, and he knows what Do-hoe has been through.

I know this line is closure, but I'm not sure where Hyeon-ho sees himself in Do-hoe's life going forward. Will he stay by Do-hoe's side? Will he mostly remove himself? Honestly, I don't think it would matter either way to Do-hoe. That decision will have a huge impact on Hyeon-ho though. I actually can't decide what would be best for him either. There's a lot of history here.

It looks like Hyeon-ho is going to help Do-hoe at least.

I don't think I'd ever use this show as an example when trying to point out writing issues, because it would ruin this show for anyone who hasn't watched it. But this show is such a strong example of excellent writing. This show has employed partial viewpoints superbly. It also takes a good script to get you from "Ugh. I hate you frenemy." to where we are now without it feeling forced or that there was inconsistent characterization along the way. Hyeon-ho hasn't really changed as a person. He's grown and matured certainly. He's realized consequences of his actions. But he's still not Ju-yeong. He's still the one offering to exchange an innocent kid for Do-hoe's well-being. But you feel for him. His morals are still questionable, but you understand and in some ways can support every decision he's made (as an adult). His motivations along each step of his journey are clear. I also find it interesting the comparisons/contrast between Hyeon-ho and Do-hoe. However, that feels like an entire essay, and I really do need to get back to work. There's writing of a different kind to be done.

I love this shot. We just left Hyeon-ho (in black) in his car alone. We now have Ju-yeong (in white) in the cafe watching Do-hoe closely. Do-hoe in grey. These are the same colors they wore earlier when Ju-yeong confronted Do-hoe. Back then, Do-hoe and Hyeon-ho were a team together. Do-hoe stuck by Hyeon-ho's side. I said then that Do-hoe was in the middle. But now he's made his choice. He goes into the cafe, and Ju-yeong is all smiles. I actually love the change of expressions on Ju-yeong's face here.

Do-hoe is smiling, and there is an easy familiarity between the two.

Yes. Please. Let's eat rice. Rice is home. Rice is a great symbolic food. Plus, I just love rice, and it carries a lot of personal meaning for me. That's a story for a different day though. The meaning I derive from rice doesn't really fit this vibe here.

Actually, I take that back. It might actually fit the vibe. Ju-yeong doesn't like rice. Bread works too though. Bread is also a symbolic food. It's nourishment and the basics needed to sustain. More importantly, the chapstick is back!

Whoever picked the book knew their assignment. It's a great choice for Do-hoe in terms of meaning. Figuring out what's important to you and focus on the simple things. It's in some ways about choosing "voluntary poverty" so that you can have a richer life. In a lot of ways, that is what Do-hoe has done at this point. And I am now FULLY on board with the bread. You said PIZZA bread? I'm there. I want. Maybe I should have ate my lunch before watching this show.

I love that they're relearning each other, and we now have this shot of their wallets. Ju-yeong is still using the old one. But it no longer matters. Do-hoe has let go of his pride in some regards. He's no longer trying to pretend to be something he's not. At the least, he's fully accepting Ju-yeong.

I'm glad that they're not overlooking the fact that these were indeed crimes. Do-hoe still has to give up all his money and go to prison, but it's a reduced sentence. I don't really want him in prison, but I do wonder if he needed to be there a bit for his own mental well-being. In some ways, I feel like he's the type that would be upset if he didn't think he had "paid" for his crimes.

Hyeon-ho and Do-hoe are going to go eat together. Ju-yeong is coming right? I mean, I guess I would be fine with y'all eating alone now. 🤔 Let me think on that.

Yay! I don't have to think about it. Ju-yeong is here, Do-hoe has the giddy smile when he sees him, and Hyeon-ho is still rolling his eyes. Ju-yeong still feels muted to me. It's growth and maturity. He doesn't need to be a sunshine all of the time. But I'm going to need his free spirit to shine through some time before the end of this episode.

Hyeon-ho goes and kicks the snow. Because there IS snow on the ground. I'm not sure how I feel about this framing honestly. The snow is dividing Do-hoe and Ju-yeong. Frenemy is in the middle. I love that there's snow. Maybe it's a sign that there's still obstacles to overcome (like prison time), but they're not real obstacles since they're covered in snow? Yeah, it's a stretch. I'm going to go with it though to keep myself happy.

My guess is a job or that Ju-yeong has put his severance pay into some type of venture to help build a life for the two of them. Yay, Ju-yeong is acting a bit playful.

I was wrong. I guess Ju-yeong's severance pay was eaten up by the car after all (unless he'll use it to pay for Do-hoe's school). I do love that Ju-yeong is not letting Do-hoe stop dreaming. He'll be his support no matter what he chooses.

I'm going to cry, but I know it's personal. Some may see this as Ju-yeong pressuring Do-hoe. I don't. Do-hoe needs someone who isn't going to let him give up on himself. (Side note - this is 100% what is scaring me about watching the ThamePo finale. Based on the GIFs I saw, I KNOW I'm not going to see it the same way as most.)

I love that the support is reciprocal here. A simple life together doesn't have to mean sacrificing who you are.

I appreciate that they're not pretending Do-hoe is going to change his mindset overnight. Do-hoe still wants the version of success he saw for himself when he was younger. He still wants to pass the exam.

Sorry. I'm not writing a lot. I'm too busy crying. "No matter what you do, what kind of person you are, and how you turn out - I like it all." The thing is - I believe him here. These lines often come across as naive to me in shows. Most of the time the characters don't have enough experience to back up these statements. This pair does. How am I supposed to focus on work after this?

Do-hoe proposes living separately for a year since he won't be able to help him. Ju-yeong responds "Are you serious?"

Thank you Ju-yeong. I need you to smack (not literally) some sense into your man's head. We're stronger together. We stick together. Let's repeat it - TOGETHER.

Ju-yeong is telling Do-hoe that they need to start over. Don't be greedy. You just need a comfortable place to sleep. Is this the book that Ju-yeong read during the cafe date? It's been too many weeks, I don't remember. I do find it interesting that sleep is coming up again. If I think back on it, sleep was mentioned several times in their teenage years too. I didn't really focus on it, but there's enough evidence to argue it's another connecting thread.

I love the playful way that Do-hoe says this line, but it also shows you what he thinks of Ju-yeong. He really does think he's better because of Ju-yeong. I wish Ju-yeong had responded "you don't need fixing". But that'd probably be too on the nose for this show.

"I'm just a loser with too much pride". Do-hoe is always going to struggle with these things. I'll state again that I'm glad they're not glossing over the fact that his mindset won't have changed.

Do-hoe asks Ju-yeong not to "abandon him". Excuse me Do-hoe. That's Ju-yeong's line.

Girl, I still don't like you. But I do like this exchange. You can also see how much Do-hoe is amused by this in some ways. It's yet another reminder that Ju-yeong did miss him even if he seemed okay. Ju-yeong is dying in embarrassment. If they weren't together, this wouldn't be funny. But it feels okay in this context. Maybe.

After his father's funeral, Hyeon-ho asked Do-hoe this question. He replied something like "I'm not." But the answer has changed.

This conversation is fun. Ju-yeong stumbles when Do-hoe admits that he was his first kiss and first love. I've said it before, but it's those small physical cues in the acting that make things feel natural.

Do-hoe is explaining himself to Ju-yeong.

Ju-yeong reassures him yet again. Honestly, this is the type of exchange they'll probably have 1000s of times going forward. Do-hoe is going to need constant reassurance that he's enough. Ju-yeong is going to need reassurance that Do-hoe won't abandon him again.

Ok. That particular line is a bit much for me. I'm always going to be one for the simple "I love you" over these sweeping declarations though. I'd rather you show, not tell. However, I do feel like words of affirmation are very important to these two. So I'll allow it.

I was just getting ready to type that Ju-yeong was still reading muted to me, but then he came out with this line and you could see a little of that rapscallion energy show through. As adults, we do often become more muted. Honestly, it makes sense that Ju-yeong isn't "happy-go-lucky" after what they've went through. And it's GOOD that he no longer feels like he has to mask. But I still need his mischievous energy to show through a bit more in this last ten minutes. Otherwise, it's going to feel like he's masking/hiding in a different way. He's still healing though. I get that.

They're teasing each other now. That's more like it. Apparently, tones/registers of speech is in play here too. Ju-yeong sneaks a kiss and runs away. There's my rascal. 🥰

We're driving to Seoul together AGAIN. Driving together is now just something we do.

There's a lot in that statement. Do-hoe sees Ju-yeong as family. The thing is...Do-hoe is Ju-yeong's family too. We still haven't seen his parents as a part of his adult life.

I get studying. I really do. If there's one thing I understand in this life, it's studying. There is still time for kisses. But maybe that's me. I'll forego a lot when I need to work/study. Kisses aren't it. That said - I like that Ju-yeong is the one now cooking and taking care of Do-hoe (even if it's a bit burnt looking). As a teen, Do-hoe was the one that cooked.

I WANT THESE PJS! They look so cute, soft and comfy. They're now matching and "happy".

LOL. Do-hoe really doesn't like water dripping in the bathroom. Apparently, that's just a personal peeve. Unlike Hyeon-ho, he's comfortable enough with Ju-yeong to scold him about it though. It's yet another side of himself he shows Ju-yeong that he refused to show Hyeon-ho. Actually, they have shown several other times that Do-hoe really likes things clean. It's a good thing he isn't at my house. I'm a terrible housekeeper.

"Even though we're average people without any so-called success, we're spending our life together..."

They show Ju-yeong's cross necklace in the trash can. I guess that's our confirmation that his adopted parents did indeed abandon him once he reached adulthood. Their duty was done in their eyes. 😒 I'd be angry, but it appears he's better off without them. (Edit: In case someone wants to bring it up. I KNOW this cross is a religious symbol as well. I'm 100%, very well aware of it. In the context of this show and the weekend I just spent, I cannot handle dwelling on that at the moment.)

LOL. I've definitely said this line before 🤣. Glad to know they're actually making time for kisses. The exchanges before were a joke, not a hard truth. I love that they're teasing each other. Ju-yeong getting petulant about "it's been a week". It just feels real and domestic.

Do-hoe finding all of Ju-yeong's past posts feels like a similar scene in You're My Glory. It's the evidence. The evidence of how much Do-hoe has always meant to him, of how much he has always tried to make Do-hoe happy, and of how Do-hoe hurt him.

And we close.

I'm definitely going to struggle to get work done now. It's a real ending. I don't know that I'd classify it as a "happy ending" (note: I don't require happy endings in my shows to be satisfied). I feel like Do-hoe's going to spend the rest of his life trying to make it up to Ju-yeong. And Ju-yeong is going to spend his life trying to convince Do-hoe that he's enough on his own. That's okay. I'm glad they didn't show whether Do-hoe passed the exam or not. Because that's not what's important. I'm also glad that we don't really know how Ju-yeong is earning money or what he's up to. Because it's also not what's important.

They're still broken people. But they're broken people spending their lives together.

I still feel like crying.

@lurkingshan Thank you for the recommendation. It really was a beautiful show. The finale was still my least favorite episode, but it was much better than most finales for me. You could even argue that I got three out of four of my "wishes" even if they weren't in the ways I had intended.

my experiences with emotion.

i feel like a lot of people have a strange misconception that people with ASPD dont feel emotions, so im going to be explaining how i experience various emotions. feel free to share your experiences as well, either in comments or reblogs, i think its interesting to see how other people experience things

happiness - happiness for me is like... "i enjoy this situation" i guess?? like i wouldnt say its necessarily fun or entertainment but just a situation that i enjoy and find positive, usually not an intense feeling for me but not super dull either, intensity levels can vary ofc

sadness - more of a feeling of disappointment, i think? like "ohh that sucks" kinda?? idk i dont really ever get deeply sad, not to the point of hopelessness like some people i know do, more just a disappointment that i can quickly move on from

fear - not much of an emotion as it is activation of fight or flight, theres generally not much emotion or thought behind it, just instinct. i dont really tend to get anxious either, although i occasionally can overthink

anger - probably one of the most intense emotions i experience, its all consuming when i feel it, and physically will feel like hot ice rushing through my veins, impulsivity will also get harder to control

boredom - also one of the most intense emotions i feel, i feel bored most of the time, its like a soulcrushing lack of stimulation. like... being so understimulated that its overwhelming. usually leads to impulsive behavior because i really only feel entertained when there is risk involved

love - love is something i rarely ever feel, i can only think of 1 person in my life who i can say i love without a doubt, for me when i love someone ill find the persons presence calming and they will make me happy to be around, to the extent that ill sit around doing things i find boring just to be around the person. i also notice that when i love someone ill actually consider them a lot more in my decisions, usually im apathetic to most people and dont typically care how my choices or actions will impact people around me, but if i love someone i will go out of my way to not harm them (even if it means avoiding doing something i want to do)

hate - hate is like... caring about someone but in the opposite way of love. i generally disregard my actions impacts on others, but if i hate someone, i will try to hurt them if at all possible. theyre considered in my decisions but in the opposite way of people i love. being around people i hate will make me angry and impulsive

empathy - i dont experience emotional empathy at all, the closest thing i experience to any form of empathy is being able to determine what someone is feeling and sometimes a possible reason as to why. it doesnt mean ill care that theyre upset (in a good or bad way, as in i dont want them to be upset or find it good that theyre upset, but i also dont really feel bad that theyre upset) or even agree that the situation should be upsetting, but i can recognize that they are. depending who they are and how i feel towards them, ill either try to help or just ignore them

guilt - i also dont really experience guilt, the closest thing i can experience is regret i think?? i can acknowledge that i should not have done something because it had a consequence that i dont like, but i dont really feel bad about it, its more of "damn. whyd i do that. now i have to deal with this." instead of an actual guilty feeling. i think my lack of guilt makes it a lot harder to actually learn from my mistakes, because even when something i do has a consequence i dont like, i usually just feel mild disappointment or irritation but not strong enough to keep me from doing the same action in the future

His hands are warm and big, even though they are callous.

Hands. Talking about his big and pretty hands, the way they touch is the most delicate way ever. His thumb will caress your cheek when he cups it, his fingers will caress your back up and down when you are offering him your back in a sign of trust… he’d hold your hand in a gentle manner as if you were a fragile glass.

Manners. He guides you through the forest, using his hand to make sure you don’t slip due to the wet floor or any rock. Or whenever you are both going out, he’s gonna keep the door open for you. You’re never walking through dangerous places if he is there, he’s not gonna allow it as he will make sure you’re safe and in front of him so he doesn’t lose you at any moment.

The same goes for those moments when he has to suck your blood. He will definitely bring water and sugar with him in case you feel bad once he drinks from your blood. He is aware of his bites being hurtful due to his hybrid condition, so that’s why he is extra gentle with you when he has to do it. He normally takes blood from your wrist or collarbone, and will always ask first, no doubt. He can control his instincts as if he is an old vampire, still when he is in heat season or there is a full moon, he can’t help it but feel more attracted to the scent of your blood.

Attentive. Thanks to the time he spent with his pack of wolves, he developed into a natural caring role for him. He notices any slight change on your scent, on the taste of your blood, on your expression, on your voice. He is well equipped with kindness, patience and empathy. He is a good listener and an honest advisor.

Communicative. Since Aaron likes to talk about his honest thoughts and intentions whenever he is going to act, you will be the first one who he will tell about it, and probably the only one. In your relationship with him you will find no problem with communication. He has no taboo, he doesn’t cut a bit when he talks. You might believe that he doesn’t take your relationship seriously but he does. He is the kind of guy to use a lot of dark humor and take everything with a laugh, but when it comes to you, he makes sure that his words can have a positive impact on you.

Physical affection. His way of showing love is definitely being close around you. He isn’t as clingy as you might think, but he likes to rest his hand on your shoulder, over your hand, or simply play with your hair. You’d feel spontaneous kisses on your head, or small massages to your shoulders.

Moondance. Even if you don’t want to go, he will still go to make company for Ethan. But do not worry, he is not interested in any lustful thing with any other person that isn’t you. Beliath thought that he’d never get into a relationship, and he’d thought that he would never be capable of loving someone. But guess what? You changed that. You are his lovely human and he is grateful that you are the one teaching him how to love. He might be a goofy silly man, but he respects the ones he loves and you are the first one he respects. Also, he’d be happy if you joined him to the Moondance! He’d have a dancing mate then, and if you wish to, he’d be there to sit on the bar and talk as you two drink something. 

He is physically incapable of getting drunk with human alcohol, as it is weak for him. If you wish to drink, he’d simply say that once in a while it doesn’t hurt, but moderately. He knows that humans can get addicted to alcohol, and he wants to avoid you getting into that loop of unhealthiness. Although it is your choice, he will take care of you whenever you get drunk.

You are invited to join him to party. He’ll stay close to you to make sure that you are alright and safe.

If you are the type of person who gets anxious about going to parties and simply does not like them, that’s valid. He will return back to bed quietly, when the sun is about to set. If he finds you awake, he will explain to you all the gossip he found out during the night. If you are sleeping, he’s gonna admire you for a few minutes until he finally gets to embrace you and sleep.

Expect him to share all of his gossip with you. He knows EVERYTHING about everyone somehow. Even about people he never interacted with. (Kinda hard because he is a social butterfly)

Shopping center dates! He is a good advisor when it comes to fashion, and he has a skill to pick the things that fit you the best. And of course he’d help you to find something comfortable for you. You’d be stunning for him anyway, but if it’s a little bit old fashioned, he’ll definitely tease you just as he teases Vladimir…

He’s the type of person that anytime you’re going to kiss his cheek, he tilts his head a little so it falls right on his lips.

When it comes to drinking your blood, he knows to control his instincts and hunger for it. He is a succubus so he can get the energy through intimacy or your blood. He was born being a vampire, so he has grown up knowing how much he can make his desires wait. He won’t drink of it until he truly feels weak, but he isn’t a weak man. His bites are kinda hurtful because his fangs are pretty sharp and long, and he generally uses his powers so you don’t have to feel much pain in case you are too sensitive. He will ask you if you want that though. The neck is the best spot for him -if not the thighs-

Pet names: Always will be calling you baby, and sometimes sweetheart.

VLADIMIR 

Little dates. He would be too embarrassed to confess that he is actually a soft man when he is around you, and he loves to enjoy quality time with you. So he’d like to invite you to romantic dinners with candles, only the two of you and a quiet environment as you enjoy each others’ presence. If you like writing, there will definitely be writing dates!

He’s pretty serviceable and formal. He would remove his jacket and give it to you to wear if you’re cold. If it’s raining, he’d hold open an umbrella for you. If you need more pillows to sleep, he’d gladly place them under your head. 

Even though during sleeping time his arm is gonna be your pillow, there is no discussion.

Flowers. This goes if you aren’t allergic to pollen… He’d give you some of the most precious flowers he has in his garden in a small bucket. He’d trust you so much to let you be near his flowers and take care of them, he’d even teach you how to do it properly with will and happiness about someone interested in his interests.

Letters. He is ashamed of saying cute stuff at first, so whenever you wake up alone in bed during the first months of the relationship, you’d find love letters on the nightstand. He writes how he feels into words so you’re always updated. He might be secretive with his speech, but he certainly loves you as he never loved anyone before. He uses certain words from his era which meanings behind them are more powerful than you may imagine. 

He’s prone to negative emotions which causes him to isolate himself for a long while until he feels better again. He doesn’t want to ask for it, but during that time he needs you the most. The authority he always carries on his shoulders completely disappears and he gets into a vulnerable and depressive mode. He may be hostile towards the other residents, but simply because he doesn’t want them to realize that he is actually someone sensitive (they know it tho). So the moment you get to his side as he is feeling like this, he’d press his head against your belly and stay there until his anxiety and negative thoughts disappear.

Caress his scalp, play with his hair… he has been for centuries without receiving genuine love. Ah, and do not expect less from him. He is truly romantic and clingy the moment you two are alone in bed. He likes hugs and even more to be able to hold you as you sleep.

And please, this man is absolutely stunning. He has delicate and pretty features, he looks like a prince. Any compliment you give him he’s gonna become a blushing mess, because he is that kind of handsome being who is unable to see his own beauty. He’d roll his eyes and tell you to not speak lies, since the only one whose beauty is comparable with a rose is yours. 

Deep inside he is truly happy that you have chosen him to offer him your heart. He will take care of it as he takes care of his flowers. 

He can be possessive over you though. But he is aware that it isn’t because of you doing anything wrong, it is just about his own insecurities which he will do his best to fix. But I’m sorry, everyone has flaws and his flaw is to be possessive…

Drinking blood is an intimate thing for him, so expect him to do it when you two are going to sleep. He generally likes to give little kisses to your neck and then bite deep down on it. He makes it slow but makes his hands to caress other spots of your body meanwhile, so you don’t have to mainly focus on the pain.

Pet names: When you are in public, do not expect him to say anything cute. He will simply call you by your name. But in private he’ll call you sweetheart, my beloved, my dearest with that elegant British accent (I may be simping a little rn) which spits royalty with each letter.

RAPHAEL

Quality of time. He doesn’t really mind how you both spend your time as long as he feels your presence around him. That means that there will be constant dates in the library in which both of you would be reading different books. He’d pick interest in listening to your comments or reactions to certain books, and as you gasp in surprise when the MC does something so unsettling, he’d be chuckling softly and asking you what’s wrong.

God he absolutely loves listening to your voice, your breathing, your laugh. There is something about your voice that makes all his problems disappear and his mind is at complete peace. He tilts his head towards the direction of your voice and pays attention to every single one of your words. He’s an active listener and as you talk he will make questions or add comments to show his genuine interest for you.

Words of affirmation. He is very talkative when it comes to his interests, but also expresses his love for you. You will hear him doing small oral poems to compliment the scent of your hair, or the softness of your skin, or the warmth of your touch. He is open about what he needs, and he normally lets you know that he needs your hugs to pull you into his lap for some cuddles.

Loving kisses. Those moments in which you get to sit on his lap, he gives soft and innocent kisses to your shoulders and nape, as he keeps his arms wrapped around your waist. Whenever he is around you he likes to give spontaneous kisses to you. Even when the others are around, he doesn’t mind giving subtle kisses to your hand. He is not secretive about his relationship, simply private. He won’t hide his affection in front of others but won't be clingy or needy.

Sleeping time. When it’s time to sleep, he truly adores being your small spoon. He genuinely searches for comfort and love with your touch. He has been through a lot in his life, and the only thing he wants is to have a stable period in his life. Feeling his back pressed against your chest as he sleeps makes him feel genuinely protected and it feels the happiness of his inner child.

Baths together! He actually will allow you to undress him in a sign of trust. More than once he’d wander his hands all through your body to imagine your shape in his mind. And damn, he adores doing so. He absolutely adores the confidence and intimacy he can get to have with you.

Raphael is truly a nice man who will make sure that you can learn to love yourself as the relationship lasts, because you are truly stunning!

His bites are always consented and you will even have to offer him because he kinda feels guilty of doing it. He actually likes to take it from your shoulder or neck, but of course, always knowing your opinion. If you offer any other place, he’ll accept. Luckily his bites aren’t as painful as the others’.

Pet names: He has no problem calling you sweet things in front of others. It’s not with the intention of letting others know that you are his partner, but simply because he is completely used to call you like that. He calls you hun, darling, sweetie… he actually uses a lot.

ETHAN

Touch starved. At the beginning of the relationship he found it hard to show his affection through his touch, but he craves to be touched. He might not start it, but he will give subtle signs that he desires to cuddle with you at the moment. Once he gets the knowledge that you like certain touches, he will give them to you. He adores when you cup his face and caress his jaw, you will have him melting at the moment.

His arm is always wrapped around your shoulders, no exception.

He’s bringing you to McDonald’s after going to Moondance, and if you wish, he will even bring you to eat them at some hidden place in the town he somehow knows. And yeah… Ethan is the typical dude who knows the weirdest places of the town and randomly offers to go explore them.

Ethan desires to love and to be loved. He loved a very few times in his life, and when he loves, he is intense and loyal. Beliath always teases him for being so cheesy, and even Ivan calls him simp… and yes he is.

Inside jokes. Ethan is pretty funny and has a dark sense of humor, and he will include you as a partner in crime to tease others. He will gossip about other people to you and whenever there is a reference made around you two which had been mentioned before, he looks at you with an unserious face and soon you two burst out laughing. Or sometimes he’d even say stuff only you would understand.

Vladimir has hit you both with the walking stick more than once to cease the laughing because he didn’t understand if you were laughing at him or what (and you indeed were).

You are his weak spot. He can’t say no to you. You don’t have to try too hard with begging, just as you ask for something, he is giving it to you.

He’d kill for you if you ever asked.

Gives you his jacket. At the minimum he sees you are cold, he is placing his jacket on you. He is a big guy and his jacket will be big to you, so he finds it adorable. And the way he stares at you is filled with love, admiring completely how good you look on it. 

He shares his food with you and that is enough to say that he loves you deeply.

When it comes to drinking your blood, he does it casually. His bites aren’t as hurtful as others as he knows the better places to handle the pain. He doesn’t like to use his powers on you to make it lighter or use some kind of medicine so it hurts less. He will fill you with kisses afterwards.

He has nightmares when he sleeps, and will cry your name during his sleep. He keeps having memories of the war he lived and there is a constant fear of losing the ones he cares about. If he lose you or Beliath, he’d be completely lost in this life. More than once he will wake up screaming, probably near a panic attack. Seeing you with him is definitely the most relieving thing for him.

Beliath is the couple therapist whenever you two need it. And he actually is almost a part of your relationship, not in terms of intimacy, but wherever you two go somewhere, he will ask “may I join??? :3333”

No one can change my mind that this dude has knowledge about how to ride a motorcycle, and he will take you on late night motorcycle rides. He loves it simply because he knows he’s gonna feel you gripping on his waist desperate as he increases the speed, laughing at you when you yell at him for it.

Pet names: He only uses “babe” and other pet names in Finnish mainly.

IVAN

Best friend and boyfriend. People will literally wonder if you are truly dating as the treatment isn’t really a clingy one. He literally hits your arm or nape (not painfully, dw) in joke, he mocks you whenever you pronounce a word incorrectly, he teases you at the minimum… He has the behavior of an annoying best friend. And thanks to being comfortable around you, he can perfectly do cringe stuff with no shame.

He is also very open minded and can switch his playful behavior to a serious one whenever you feel like talking deeply about something. If you need to rant or vent, he will listen, but don’t expect any good advice because he is the type to suggest that you punch someone or you even burn their house.

Gaming dates. Ivan managed to get his own phone, hiding it from Vladimir, because what the hell he wanted to have some freedom and fun… He is concerningly good at phone games. You two will be lying on his bed and playing together any random competitive game. As I said before, Ivan basically treats you with a lot of trust so whenever you win he yells and rolls in the bed as he complains. “Oh, fuck! What is this team? Why are they SO bad!?”. It’s funny to see his reactions as he suddenly might sigh and turn off his phone, turning around to sleep (to whine and complaing actually)

Of course he would never get mad at you for winning at any game! After he has cried about it for 20 minutes, he’d hug you and say “well, at least I am proud of being with someone so skilled.”

Whenever he wins he is also going to mock you about it for 20 minutes.

You two got forbidden from playing games when everyone else is sleeping because the volume of your voices got too loud for your own good -Vladimir scolded you two the next day-.

But this also means arcade dates!

Every time you call him any pet name, he needs like 5 minutes to collect his thoughts and know what to answer because his mind is simply thinking about how you called him.

You literally can not get rid of him. You go to the kitchen? He will go with you to get a glass of juice. You go to the couch? Cool, he goes with you. You wanna go outside? He’s gonna whine but he will go.

Do not remind him about the window incident or he is gonna cry and hug you to apologize about it.

Ivan is really insecure about his vampire condition and being able to hurt you. He tries to warn you whenever he starts to feel hungry so you go away, because he is truly afraid of biting you without your consent. His bites are hurtful since he bites with desperation and needs self control with his hunger and his own fangs. He is a young vampire and he can’t control when his fangs appear or to control himself too much.

He asks Aaron help to control himself.

But whenever he is completely conscious, he is gonna be completely gentle with you. And even if he is playful, there is no way he is harming you for real. If he ever did, he’d cry with you.

He dedicates tiktok meme videos to you (sometimes cheesy ones)

Matching!! Necklaces!!

He will give you an earphone so you both can hear music together. He definitely won’t have any problem with making a playlist with you, and even doing one with songs that reminds him of you.

Pet names: He calls you mon amour or ma chérie when he is feeling more romantic -and usually during intimacy- if not, he calls you anything ridiculous that’s related to your name or hun.

M!Kylar x F!Reader - Gaming (Part 1)

You and Kylar meet through League. Two dorks in love. Fluff. I could make it into GN!Reader but I need the reader to be female for the next part, so yeah. There's not much League things, it's more like a plot device. So anyone can read it, even if you don't play league I made it pretty vague on purpose. As always, love y'all!

No trigger warnings, unless you count in League. Kylar is Kylar. Yeah.

2.1k Words. Not including headcanons.

As your game came to an end, the bold letters flashed on the screen. Although the game wasn’t won, you still had a lot of fun. Especially since your support was good, and it seemed like the both of you had a good synergy.  

It was no surprise that you sent them a friend request and an invite to your next game, hoping to play some more with them. A feeling of joy rose up in your stomach as they accepted both invitations, their preferred lane positions already picked and ready. You were already ready to start the next game as well.  

As you started up the queue, you asked them the basics, getting to know them better. If your synergy together was as good as you suspected, you definitely wanted to play more with them. And you for sure wanted to keep them around if that was the case! Making new friends in-game was fun, after all.  

Music played on Spotify as your anonymous support was answering your questions. The answers were short and curt, giving your duo an aura of mystery around them. However, in the end you found out a few things about your lane partner.  

First off, they were a man, and his name was Kylar. He was also around the same age as you, he even studies computer science! Although his answers were short, his questions about you were plentiful. You answered most of them without a second thought, as long as they weren’t questions about your exact location. However, you didn’t mind giving him a vague answer, like which major city you live close to.  

You also made sure to cheer him up through the messages as best as you could when something didn’t work out on bot lane. His Nami was on point, he was actively using his ability to slow down the enemy, only to follow up with a bubble that would stun them, thus giving you a kill. But sometimes, things didn’t work out the way they were supposed to, all thanks to random visits from the enemy, which would catch both of you off guard.  

But you made sure to calm him down each time, giving sweet words of encouragement, effectively bringing him back to his composed state almost immediately, or at least, it looked that way after you saw his playstyle improve. You also made sure to praise him each time he did something good. Although you weren’t sure if it had any impact on him because of the lack of voice chat, you still hoped you made his day, since he kept writing back “Thank you.” each time you gave him a compliment.   

Unbeknownst to you, Kylar was a melting mess behind his computer screen after each time you have him a compliment. You were so nice and so easy to talk to! Not to mention, you were really good at the game. And you knew what to say to him to make him calm down. It’s like it was fate for both of you to meet!  

Oh, how much fun does he have playing with you. He was actually the first one to ask you to play with him next day, too. Kylar spent the whole day being online as soon as he woke up, since he didn’t want to miss you and he really, really wanted to spend more time with you. He has made sure to give you lots of compliments as well that day. 

Hiding behind the screen gave him the anonymity, hence making him more courageous. You appeared slightly later than usual, which made him worry as he started to overthink as to why you could be late by two hours compared to your usual time. So, it’s no wonder he went ahead and asked subtly, disguised under the pretext of asking how your day was.  

Oh, so you had to do some grocery runs and buy a few things! Oh, it’s getting colder, and you bought some sweaters, as well! He was sure you looked so good in the virgin killer you bought. Kylar is so sure you bought it for a potential meeting with him, his Darling dressing up all nice and pretty just for him.  

Although he didn’t know how you looked like yet, he was sure you were just the most beautiful Goddess on earth. It’s impossible for someone as kind and nurturing as you to not be beautiful to him! 

He could only hope that you felt the same excitement whenever you spent time with him. You had to. Otherwise, why spend time with him? You surely had a thing for him too. You had to.  

The more you played with Kylar the more attached you got. He was fun to text to and play with, and his mysterious nature made you more curious about him. You tried asking more questions over the last few weeks and lately, you’ve been curious about what he sounds like. At some point your head made up a deep voice, fitting for his mysterious personality.  

It didn’t take long for you to take matters into your own hands, asking him whether not he wanted to join a Discord call with you. You were so ready to hear his voice. The thought actually made you all giddy and excited. As you exchanged Discord nicknames, you glanced at the screen. His nickname was Yamada-Kun, the same as his in-game nickname. He also had a picture of Yamada from ‘leveling up Yamada-Kun to lv999’.  

Your heartbeat quickened up as you clicked the call button, ready to hear Kylar’s voice for the first time. Kylar answered instantly, which surprised you. You barely even heard the Discord call noise; you were instantly connected to a call with him.  

Kylar shuffled about in his room, stumbling over his things. His hands felt shaky. His hands were sweating. He dried his hands by brushing them against his pants, hopefully less sweaty now. Kylar was so excited that he knocked over the microphone by mistake! Getting it took some time, since he had to be sneaky about it, but it was so worth it. Now his Darling can hear him in the highest possible quality! He was such a good boyfriend for you! 

As the microphone fell, you shrank a little at the noise, curious as to what happened. “Hello?” you said. “Is everything okay, Kylar?”. 

Your voice was so nice to him, so pretty and calming. It felt so good to hear you that he almost forgot about the microphone completely. He gingerly picked it up and placed it back on his desk. Then, he cleared his throat. “Y-Yeah, I’m good. My microphone just fell.” 

Oh, he did not sound like you expected. Not in a bad way, of course! You didn’t expect him to sound so shy and nervous, that’s all. But it was so cute that you just had to tease him. 

“Feels good to finally hear you, my Dear Duo! I was so excited. And I’m still excited for playing today. You ready?” 

Although you couldn’t see it, Kylar was nodding his head repeatedly, black locks of hair flying around and messing up his hairstyle, making it more messy than usual. “Y-Yeah, that sounds absolutely great, my Lovely.” 

Oh, he was using back pet names as well. He was so shy you thought he wouldn’t use it. You leaned back in your chair, pulling up League and logging it, then picking your preferred role to play before inviting Kylar to the game.  

God, his voice was so nice to listen to, even with all the stuttering and occasional voice cracks when he complimented you on nice actions you did in-game. It was so soft and delicate. Your ears felt hot and you felt a flush come to your cheeks as you listened to his voice. You desperately wanted to hear more, so you gradually asked him more questions, which he seemed to answer gladly, happy to satisfy your curiosity.  

The atmosphere on call was comfortable and it was nice to talk to someone during ranked games. Whenever he gave you a compliment or used a pet name, each time more confident than the other, you felt your stomach buzzing with energy.  

You reflected the same energy back to him. You did have some kind of crush on him. But that’s because he seemed so curt and mysterious in the beginning, and now you found yourself falling for how cute and shy he was being on voice.  

Your throat sometimes squeezed up, making it harder for you to say what you wanted. You didn’t even notice when you started to get nervous whenever you complimented him. Or used a pet name. You don’t remember when the last time was you felt so hot and giddy around someone else.  

But you knew that the feeling, despite it being slightly uncomfortable, made you feel mostly good. Happy.  

With how cold it was getting lately, your hands started to gradually become cold, to a point where you just couldn’t bear it anymore.  

“I think I should lay down and heat up, Kylar. My hands are cold as fuck.” You said. You exited the game and started to slowly close up other tabs you might have had open.  

“You could lay down a-and I’ll stream for you, Love! P-Please stay!” he sounded so desperate, it almost made you feel bad for wanting to go and lie down. A chuckle left your lips. He was so adorable. Like a bunny. 

“Sure. I’ll call from my phone in a few minutes. Need to change into my night clothes. Be right back, Darling!” and so you ended the call. You got ready and as soon as you laid in the bed, Kylar instantly called you, almost as if knowing you are in bed already. Huh. He must have some crazy 6th sense.  

You answered the call, getting comfortable under the covers. You already felt warmer, but not warm enough. Kylar pulled up some videos on YouTube as you guys chatted. Soon enough, he changed to Osu instead, showing you off his skill. Trying his best to impress you.  

“Jesus, my hands still feel so cold. F-fuck, my whole body is cold.” you mindlessly complained, snuggling more into the comfort of your quilt and soft pillows, impatiently waiting for your body to generate enough warmth. 

“I can be your blanket, Love!”  

You almost choked on your salvia as your breath hitched, suddenly feeling shy as you mulled over his words. He wants to cuddle you. Or was it something else? You felt so light-headed you weren’t really sure. You hid your face in your covers. 

“S-Sure. And I can be your pillow.” 

This time it was Kylar’s turn to blush. He stopped whatever he was doing in Osu, his brain short circuiting. He destroyed his own streak on the current Osu map he was playing and because of the level difficulty you soon heard an old retro melody that would signal that the map has been failed.  

His hands felt... Grabby. He desperately wanted to hug you. Feel you under his fingers. Give you the warmth you need. Slightly sweaty, too. He gulped. 

“W-We should meet up, if you really want to c-cuddle, Love.... Can we meet? Please, Love. I want to meet with you so badly. Give me the address and I’ll come as fast as possible, no matter how far you are.” 

His phone was already in the palm of his hand, looking up how far the busses and trains in his area would cost and how far they can take him. He was pretty serious about it.  

You felt so embarrassed by your words. You gripped your pillow tighter, bringing it close to your chest. You were unsure on what to say as you contemplated your next words. You really wanted that hug. 

“Okay, but... Only if you are somehow not that far away. Okay? You can come to (address)” you said. It wasn’t your home, but a place that was near enough. A gas station. A place where there are always people. It’s late and it would be the safest.  

Kylar immediately looked up the place and noticed it’s 40 minutes away by buss. He started grinning, a red flush took over his cheeks, reaching his ears and neck. He gripped his phone tighter, already packing things he might need into his bag.  

“G-Great. I’ll be there in an hour and a half! Jus-st wait for me, Love!” he ended the call, getting ready to meet up with you as fast as possible while you collected yourself and thought about what you have gotten yourself into.

A few other things I've thought about while writing this one.

Some Kylar headcanons ahead!

They are probably into Otome dating games.  

In games like Osu! or Killing Floor, they are a casual player.  

More competitive games make them aggressive, although they don’t show it on chat if there’s a penalty. 

They do, however, make noises/sounds of frustration, maybe slamming their hand against the desk or keyboard, but never anything full-on destructive. 

Of course, Kylar will hold those reactions back when playing with you! 

To be honest, you have a calming effect on them.  

I feel like Kylar would be a Nami main when it comes to support, alternatively other cute champs like Lulu, Soraka, Lux. But enjoys an occasional Pyke or Senna.  

You bet they play anime songs/openings, Hatsune Miku or other Japanese music while beating the maps on Osu! 

If they are not playing anime songs/openings, they sure as fuck play emo/scene music. Pierce The Veil, Breaking Benjamin, Asking Alexandra. Sounds about right to me. Oh yeah, also listens to Night Core.  

I feel like at first, they would be court and short when it comes to messages. Mostly because they are shy and so they would seem cold at first. And yeah, you can’t hear their stuttering. 

But writing stutters and such also suits them lmao. I think they would use a lot of (…) whenever they write something. 

I am sure they would be voiceless at first because they would need to steal a microphone/headphones with microphone first, just so they can talk to you.

Yo tarot reader # 2 here and this one’s going to be long.

I’ve done some reading for only some of the questions. If you find that your inquiry isn’t below, I kindly ask that you give me time to get around doing them and maybe the strength too (tarot reading can be quite tiring, sorry 😭)

Let me preface this by saying 🍀 is more hurt than she lets on

On the surface she thinks it’s selfish cause when 🦈 and 🐍’s “relationship” finally ends, it’ll have a less than positive impact on the show and the dynamics of the team. So she’s trying to focus on the side that she’s upset because it’ll affect everyone and the two aren’t being mindful of the cast and crew who’ve worked hard

On the deeper end, 🍀 kinda sees that 🦈’s confession to her (as read previously by OG tarot reader) wasn’t serious at all. She has feelings for him but she’s keeping it from getting deep and now she thinks she did the right thing. However, digging deeper, she feels like she’s now the one with unrequited feelings for him. “He moved on so quick,” is one thing I get. It’s painful stuff and she hasn’t really dug into yet cause she thinks she’s not as affected or hurt but the cards say otherwise.

Yes it’s a huge obstacle for 🍀 in reconciling the friendship with 🦈, to answer the question. Based on the reading above, she thinks he’s just fooling her or pulling tricks on her. The intensity of his words when he told her how he feels for her doesn’t match his recent actions. She knows he’s unpredictable and mercurial but she’s wondering if he’s a liar too or just switched his attention to her to fill his “boredom.” Keep in mind she only started thinking this when 🐍 got in the picture. From the previous readings, 🍀 said no to 🦈 out of her own walls and fears but now she’s overthinking everything because of 🐍 (who’s actually the rebound and the bandaid to 🦈’s pain over 🍀 rejecting him but 🍀 doesn’t know that)

I pulled a card for the solution on how 🦈 & 🍀 can work towards being friends again and 🍀 is kind of on her way, with introspection and time apart. However there are some obstacles which is why the timeline is kind of long. Time isn’t of the essence anyway and they need to take it slow. I asked if J2 (sorry I know but I had to clarify) is involved and not in the sense that he feeds on shit talking the 🦈 / 🐍 thing cause he doesn’t know much but I’m getting the sense that he feeds into 🍀’s tendency to isolate. She does need alone time but J2’s presence is not helpful all around, regardless of the 🦈/ 🐍 hullabaloo.

Is 🍀 thinking of being friends with 🐍 again? She’s 50/50 about it. On one hand that was her close friend but she knows she won’t be able to unsee what she knows. I asked if 🍀 is aware that there’s a pr thing and the answer I got is she doesn’t want to believe in it. But then again how successful she is in not wanting to is up for debate. Going back to the cards pulled for topics 2-4 above, 🍀 can’t help but think they did all that for pr if they really did so it hurts more cause it’s a move that doesn’t resonate with her as a person.

Do 🍀 and 🦈 flirt?

Oh hell yes and they enjoy it, especially her but she’s more coy about it tho he picks up on it (and also her trying to not show it as much) and he likes it. FLIRT CIRCLE is all I can say. Like THRIVING from it. At some point both probably looked forward going to work to flirt than to actually work.

Have they crossed the line (kissing, etc)?

Um yes after so much temptation. 🍀 kind of felt bad but more so because she liked it way more than she thought she would or would allow herself to. I asked the extent of it and it was until kissing only. Dare I say it happened only once but that was like THE ONE.

Anything more intimate between them hasn’t happened out of respect for one another and the bond they have but not without any hardships. Struggle bus for these two to resist and so far it’s working because 🍀 has withdrawn and 🦈 can’t do anything about it (well he sort of did with his I love you we should be together speech for 🍀 but that caused her to pull away so all he can do is respect that)

Personality: Since young age, Kenichi always had a strong sense of justice and would stand up against whoever abused their power or position (like a bully teacher in school and abusive managers at his first jobs). He feels the need to be role model for his younger siblings, despite two already being adults. He's responsible and an empathetic person, which may cause him to have an overload of emotions from time to time, his head filled with overthinking, just wondering how once wrong word may ruin someone's day. He is nice and humors people whenever he can, however, it's just as easy for him to pull someone apart through words.

Kenichi is great at bluffing and lying, also very good at detecting people's lie, but doesn't call it out until the lies get attention, just for the extra humiliation of being caught on the act. However, he's very attentive on other people's needs and likes, so he's great at giving presents.

He has more filter than Valerie and Nessa together. Since he's careful with his words, he usually doesn't end up hurting people like his sisters do, and sometimes, still in adult life, calls them out on this. Don't get him wrong, he loves his family and still see his little sisters as babies deep inside.

Story: Kenichi is the older kid in his family, so since he was kid he was trying to not make mistakes and be a role model to Val and Nessa. He always have shown interest in art and would draw a lot.

As he grew older, he started to make his own designs, mimicking his father, who is also a couturies, and by his tweens was given a few responsibilities in his dad's commissions, like taking measurements, helping with designing and sewing smaller details his dad couldn't see. Kenichi developed a liking for embroidery by this age and still does it when needing to relax and clear his mind. He soon met Katarina Liang, a werefox living by the end of the street and his classmate, and fell head over hills for her, making her little gifts like jewellery inspired by the things she says she like.

He enjoys spending time with his siblings, and is the one who made Shiho's earrings and Shun's ring as birthday gifts. Kenichi is the one who gave Shiho a guide puppy in training when she and Shun were around four.

After bad consequences caused by his vanguard fashion show that deeply affected his sisters, he, Val and Kat tried making justice with their own hands, which eventually led to the creation of MVRR gang.

8. What's something your character might casually mention as though it's normal that would worry or confuse other people?

"Oh, Pops found me in floating in the sea as a babe, so I had to have a wet nurse and she's like an aunt to me now!" would probably take the cake. 'Swimming letters' might also confuse people that have no previous interactions with dyslexia.

18. Your character has to give up one food group (fruits, vegetables, grains, protein, dairy, or sweets). They experience no ill effects or deficiencies in this scenario, it's just about preference. What do they get rid of?

I feel like she's not picky about their food, but also enjoys a bit of everything! Might actually go with sweets or fruits because I feel like it's the food group she doesn't get to indulge as much anyway, whereas good bread, cheese and meat/fish are a staple to live off of. And she definitely does love a good, hearty meal. She'd probably would try to cheat with dairy sweets like ice cream or pastries, though. Not having candy itself would be fine.

21. Your character is at a restaurant. What do they order to drink?

In a tavern or inn, they'd go for a good mead. In a fancy restaurant, they'd sort of try to copy companions who seem to have more experience with all of it. Would probably enjoy a sweeter red wine.

27. Is your character happy with their life?

They were happy for a long time - life was simple and sometimes tough, but they had their family and someone in their life who made her feel like all her dreams were ripe for plucking. Even stars weren't out of reach.

Unfortunately, it all unraveled in a single night and ever since they've been released from prison, nothing has been quite right. And few very recent events have left Arlynn hurt, stressed and doubting things more than ever before. There are a lot of changes going on in general and she doesn't know how she feels about all of them yet. But some things are nice and make her happy, like her new party members.

3. What's an event that positively impacted your character's life?

Nameless' life - what they can remember - is quite short and most things in it have greatly distressed them. But overcoming their anxiety and pursuing interest in cooking and baking, even if partially for misguided reasons of wanting to be useful, has definitely been good for them. They find the process somewhat mediative and it has given them some confidence and also connection with Sam who has had some important conversations with them.

6. What is your character like when running errands? Quick? Forgetful? Efficient? Frivolous?

As long as they don't end up overthinking things, like what best to get in quality or how to save money, they are efficient. Probably have a list and stick to it religiously (hah).

15. Do people often call your character by a nickname? Their name itself is a nickname because they just don't have a name (as proven by Circle of Truth), so Nameless is just a way to regard them. Maybe with time they'll get specific nicknames from friends!

26. Think about somebody your character loves. What's something your character might do that upsets or irritates that person?

It seems to annoy most people, but it definitely impacts Cinza and Nassima the most - how much of a worrywart overthinker prone to spiral they can be. Getting caught up in details and worrying about things that you just strap in and deal with, blowing small issues out of proportion and having their teammates have to sit listening to them spiral. Also being too down on themselves, too, probably.

28. If somebody were to draw your character, what are one or two things you'd want them to be sure to keep in mind?

Good question! I think the idea that how Nameless usually presents as the most casual normal guy your eyes skip over is the most important thing to take note. No distinguishing features, just ambigious race and gender some guy. Their body language and expression probably stands out most as anxious and unsure in most situations or exceptionally blank when in normal, relaxed state. This would be also true for their true form - just blankest face. The autism is strong with them lmao.

idk i just find it interesting to think peter was never a super anxious person until life made him anxious about everything. like his anxiety comes from a place of circumstances and his past giving him all the reasons he should be anxious. he overthinks worst case scenarios because he’s experienced worst case scenarios and knows that they are something to anticipate. in homecoming he is a carefree teenager who is aware of his impact in many ways but also who hasn’t experienced the traumas of the vulture and thanos and mysterio and the entirety of no way home, traumas which stack on top of each other until every thought he has is weighted by anxiety.

and then to have harley contrasting that by having anxiety his entire life but having to teach himself how to logic his way out of his anxiety. like, he walks into a room and immediately is checking exits and looking for potential hazards and is afraid of every possible bad thing that could happen—and then he forces himself to stop and be like, okay, yeah, that’s possible, but also that is incredibly unlikely and focusing on the potential rather than the actual will only distract me from the present moment and, in turn, potentially distract me from any bad things that might actually happen. and i like to think that harley is so used to having these anxious thoughts that he has no reaction when he has them. like he’ll be smiling and laughing and also thinking about what to do if something catches on fire, and because of this he comes across as very relaxed and carefree to others.

idk i just. i love the idea of harley and peter having these things in common but also being complete opposites about them? peter was carefree and happy and optimistic about the world and his future and everything until the universe forced him to become overly cautious and anxious and always afraid of things going wrong because every single thing has gone wrong before and he knows it could do so again. harley has always anticipated the worst case scenario even though the world has not given him much reason to do so and has to actively remind himself that the worst case scenario is often not what actually happens. his motto is “hope for the best prepare for the worst” because that’s the only way he can manage to enjoy things while being anxious about them, whereas peter’s motto has turned into “hope for nothing prepare for everything” because he has no choice but to anticipate everything falling apart.

(and, in a world where they meet, the longer they know each other the more they understand each other and one another’s anxieties and how they work and learn to communicate with each other in a way that helps to ease their inidivual anxieties. harley reminds peter that, while the worst has happened before, that doesn’t mean it’s automatically going to happen again, and peter helps harley feel prepared for things going wrong in a way that harley is then able to focus on the positives easier, which again in turn gives harley the ability to help peter focus on the positives, too, which then provides peter the confidence to become a little bit more carefree and optimistic again, until they can easily bounce off one another to help ease their anxieties and become calming presences in each others lives, esp during stressful situations)

I just... wanted to say some nice things to some of the people I care about in the rpc, that have made me feel cared about, that's all. uwu

I am either going to write a general message to send to folks over tumblr IMs, or make a post to tag folks in, for the folks I didn't send messages to but still want to acknowledge ! cuz I don't want anyone to feel left out tbh. there are so many people that mean a lot to me and have positively impacted my rp experience and/or my life in general, and its that season where I want to make sure they know it.

I've really been struggling with apathy and feeling bothersome, wondering what the point is. owo;; like, leave it to me to overthink doing a nice thing until I feel weird / bad about it haha but I genuinely hope the messages and my intentions find people well, otherwise I apologize for being a bother / if I made folks feel uncomfy or weird ?

also just. want to restate what I posted yesterday: I feel like my autism and/or adhd has made it hard for me to quantify relationships, so I just kinda say everyone that I care about is my friend. and I know that isn't always truthful of what the relationships actually is, or how the other person sees it, so… I do apologize if I overstep or make people feel awkward by calling them my friend. if it does make you feel uncomfortable please just say so ! I can't say that I won't feel hurt, but again, I recognize that I may be… assuming more than is true.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately, worrying that the people I consider friends don't see me in the same way. that I'm assuming more about our relationship than is true and making them feel awkward and/or uncomfortable in the process. which is obviously not my intention. I'm genuinely just. trying to be... friendly, kind, supportive, caring. I'm trying to foster the ideals of friendship. and worrying, in the meantime, that I'm not a very good friend because I'm slow and awkward and shy / insecure and tend to overthink quite a bit. so... I am very thankful for the friends I have, if they consider me as such, and sorry if I make people feel weird when we aren't really friends.

4. Something you wish to see in future games

A lot of this I'll answer in #5 but to keep things positive I'll just list actual wants up here. Though for some reason my brain is only coming up with character concepts right now haha.

I'd like to see another female protagonist of course, but I want to emphasize here that I want her to feel... unique? Velvet took inspiration from Milla (I know they're very differently written but I'm talking about their base appeal here), which is fine but I'd like something different next time. (Mika exists too but her game is deader than dead...) I'd love to see a character akin to Meredy or Colette take control of the story.

I won't go into this too much on here but I would like to see more characters like Mark in Summoner's Lineage.

I also feel like we could always use more characters who are musicians; I adore Johnny and absolutely love how Tear was handled, and I need more of it! Rays Recollection had an idol character which was nice.

5. Something you hope never is used again in future games

Going to put this under the read more for anyone sensitive to criticism who might not want to see it. I will warn it's a bit strongly articulated.

Cooking/food jokes, especially when it comes to someone being bad at it. This one got old decades ago; the amount of cooking skits in Rays is almost mind-numbing and do not get me started on how it felt as if all of the "fun" skits in Arise were just about this.

I would like Tales to chill out on the "sex appeal" rage they've been on the past handful of titles. I've only heard good things about Luminaria's writing but I still haven't been able to stomach the designs enough to actually start on it, which is not good. I know the franchise has always had shades of this but it's been especially noticeable as of late, and it feels like a huge step backwards. I don't think I'll ever move on from hearing how Iwamoto pressured Inomata into designing Velvet, and my subsequent reaction when Kisara was revealed and my joy at her being a knight was immediately overridden by wondering why on earth her design had to be the way it is. It's just very wild to me when back in the day, Keele of all characters was considered one of the "hottest" Tales characters and he's designed in a way where you can't even see any part of his silhouette. I don't believe we need none of it, but I at least would like them to step back with it just a little bit.

Ufotable is a big one. I really, really do not like Ufotable's Tales work. I wrote two threads about this on Twitter (part 1, part 2). In a world where Wit was put on the mobile games, there's no reason to keep using Ufotable for mainline Tales games.

I think Ufotable was perfectly fine in the Symphonia OVA; after all, none of the anime adaptations sans the Vesperia movie were done by IG. But that's the thing―it being a spinoff media is one thing, but it being the main art in the mainline games is where I draw the line. Each Tales title has its own art identity (for instance, Phantasia's art looked different from Legendia's which looked different from Graces), but they all still tried to keep to the staple Tales style. Ufotable does not care about this. I also am just going to be honest when I say my mind registers Xillia and beyond as "different" from the games prior and it's in part because of Ufotable's art identity being so divorced from the prior art direction in the franchise. Xillia was one of the more early titles I got to, so it's not even like I had years and years of IG "bias" before playing it, I just felt like something was off when I played it. They are truly doing their own thing and it does impact how a number of fans view the games, whether a lot of people want to acknowledge this or not. For anyone on the fence or thinking I'm unreasonable or overthinking it: Production IG was literally hired by Inomata herself because they were the only animators who were capable of adapting her style correctly.

Meanwhile Wit has been putting out work that not only follows the "style" perfectly, but it's also some of the best art this franchise has ever seen, if not the best. I really, really want to see them take over for the mainline games, and I am hoping this is the angle they're going for now that we have no mobile games.

I also need series staples to come back: 2D art and victory quotes being my biggest. There is not a single part of me that can process how this was actually greenlit for Arise. The skit format doesn't bother me as much as it does for other people, but these things, I cannot bend on, because it's not stemming from "wanting to try something new" (which Tales does all the time and is how I view the skit format change), it stems from the producer wanting to make Tales appeal to literally everybody except its targeted demographic and removing the things that drew people to this franchise in the first place. I don't think a franchise branching out is bad, but when it actively makes tons of old fans, who have kept the franchise afloat for decades, start to collectively lose interest in the future of the franchise, it's not a good sign. Even if there are people who "don't care," there are people who do and will drop the franchise if the franchise stops doing all of the small things that made them love it in the first place, especially if there's no real reason to be removing said things.

...Anyway sorry I got a bit heated. I love this franchise to death, and Rays really restored a lot of lost faith I had after I wasn't super sure the franchise was going in the right direction for me in the mainline games (I know a lot of people love it but even Berseria something just didn't quite feel right to me), so I hope Bamco can take some notes from what went well in it and incorporate that in future titles. I know I did my part and did the survey they put out, asking for a number of the things I listed here.
