The time was here, the gate slowly rose and a cloud of dust filled the arena. Dane was preparing for what he might see. Amidst the cloud he could notice the faint silhouette of the dragon as it was slowly being led out of the chamber. Except…it or well he didn't look like a monster. Despite the dragon-like characteristics such as red wings, horns and tail, he was just a somewhat normal looking person. Just another boy. Bright orange hair and pale skin was all Dane could see from a distance.

The boy, chained and snarling, glared at Dane. Intimidated, Dane gripped his sword close to his body. He struggled to focus as the roaring of the crowd pierced his ears. Eyes closed the prince took a deep breath, one of which he assumed to be his last. Dane thought of all the things he was yet to do, yet to discover, yet to learn. He spent his entire life following the path destined to this exact moment. He wanted nothing more than to run away.

The dragon felt nothing but hatred. For the chains on his neck and arms, for the roaring crowd eagerly awaiting his demise, and especially for the weak pitiful boy who dared challenge him. He knew even if he won this battle it was unlikely he’d make it out of this kingdom alive, there were far too many people who wanted him gone. Despite this, he was motivated by his rage. If he was going out it wasn't without a fight. He was going to make someone pay for this and it was going to be Dane.

With the sound of a bang from a cannon the dragon was released and the guards who had chained him ran for the hills. The dragon paid no mind to them. His target was the boy who he was locked in this arena with.

Dane was shaking and shivering but he thought he’d at least try to win this. Not for the kingdom. Not for his family. Not for his honor or for riches, but for himself

He wanted to live

And so it began, the dragon didn't waste a single second and he charged at the prince full speed, a cloud of dust kicking up behind him. Bracing his feet in the dirt, the dane drew his sword. A second of hesitation was all it took and he found himself on the ground tasting dirt, his glasses flying off his face. All the years of dragon training were flooding through his mind, and he sifted through any single memory that could prove even remotely useful. ‘They have super smell and hearing but weak eyes, the belly is the soft spot uh- wait does that even apply to him’.

His thoughts escaped his mind when adrenaline began to take over and suddenly all that mattered was not being set on fire.Dane grabbed his glasses and got back up. The dragon tackled him again and clawed at the armor desperately, making very little impact. Dane kicked the dragon in the stomach and shoved him. Finally back on his feet he swung his sword into the dragon but he quickly dodged.

Dane couldn't keep up, the dragon was just too fast. But then he got an idea. He just had to stop his opponent from moving. Dane stepped on the dragon's tail and the ginger boy slipped. Dane finally had the upper hand. He kicked him in the chest, sending him onto his back. The dragon Hissed and grabbed danes leg. If he was going down, Dane was coming with him. The screeching of his claws against the armor was ear splitting. Dane attempted to kick him with his other foot right in the face. The dragon let go and Dane stumbled back. The dragon now angrier than ever was on fours and like a rabid beast he roared.

Dane ducked behind his shield just as the dragon sent a fireball. Quickly he was back on his feet and was sending fireball after fireball. Dane managed to dodge them, but just barely. The dragon was quick and unpredictable but the dane secure was sturdy. The dragon was bigger, more muscular , but Dane’s armor added up to 100 lbs to his total body weight and protected him from flames.The dragon was growing completely inconsolable. It was unfair that all his attacks were completely resistant to the armor and shield. That's when his plans changed.

The dragon flew into the air and dive bombed the prince. Dane was pinned to the ground and disoriented. The dragon was blasting him with flames and soon the armor began to heat up. After a few seconds the metal conducted the heat and Dane started to sweat. Worse than that, it was getting hard to breathe. The heat of the armor burned his skin and he felt like he was going to suffocate. The heat was utterly unbearable and Dane was panicking. If he didnt do something soon he would definitely be cooked. The Dragon's flames were intensifying, he put his all into this trying to boil the prince as fast as he could. He knew this would be a really painful and terrifying way to die but the dragon didnt care he believed that the human deserved it. He deserved to die. They all did.

The reason I didn’t include Dane in this is because the piece was originally made to show off their magic. See in the sketch, Seth with the snow flakes, Blaze with the Flames, Grim with the stars and Victor with the feathers.

Dane is a human with no magic so I didn’t include him

So they’re magical.. what are they?

Seth- Demi god of ice and snow (the Cryosa wolf)

Can bend and from gusts of snow and ice. Can also create walls and shards of ice. Controls cold weather and is guardian of the forest.

Blaze- Flame Dragon. He can breath fire, emit flames from his hands, create fireballs and bend fire

Grimbelle- She’s a witch, the stars represent the sparkly yellow-ish color of her magic. She can do small things at the moment (she’s still learning, she’s only 14). Light spells, telekinesis, plant and weather spells for gardening, time telling, and other little neat tricks

Victor- he is a shape shifter, (the amulet on his chest allows this ability) his true form is a white turtle dove, thus the feathers. His main form, his human form has wings to represent this. He is also a healer and can manipulate plants.

They all have human forms for convenience purposes, but they remain with bits of their true identity. Sort of like, a way of feeling connected to who they really are. They can present 100% human but it feels “wrong” or uncomfortable and they won’t do it unless necessary.

Blaze does this several times in TCD for safety reasons, Dane wonders why he does this, why not be human full time. So he never has to worry again
