Great website with helpful tools for neurodivergent folks!
I've been introduced to like the BEST website with the BEST tools ever for neurodivergent folks. Guys, meet GoblinTools! This website is ENTIRELY FREE and has really useful tools with the help of what I'd call ethical use of AI technology. It can: 1. Break tasks down for you 2. Formalize your text 3. Tell you how a text may come across tone wise 4. Give you the crash course of something 5. Tell you how long something will very probably take 6. Compile your thoughts into a list of tasks 7. Tell you what food you can make with ingredients you currently have! I personally am definitely gonna find 1 and 6 useful.

Do it slow, do it silly, do it singing, do it however you need to to get the dopamine to do it otherwise it's NEVER going to be done.

One of the hills I will die on; Logan and Wade are autism & ADHD coded and a classic example of neurodivergent friends finding each other.
(Also Logan is Bisexual and Wade is Pansexual. And I will not be accepting criticism on that one.)

psa to all neurotypical adults
An item used to prevent an neurodivergent person from going into sensory overload, heavy distraction, or in general inability to complete tasks every day is not a "want." It is a need. Just because you don't need it to get through your day doesn't mean they don't either. You wouldn't call a phyisally disabled person's wheelchair just a "want" so stop being an ableist little bitch

The horrible appointment that lead to my ADHD diagnosis
A few months ago, I had an appointment with my psychiatrist. I admitted that I couldn't make myself get to the kitchen to get food because it was just too hard. I was crying because this is embarrassing. How is it too hard to get to the kitchen for food? Like how does that even happen?
He said I could stand to lose a few pounds, and it was okay. (The few pounds I gained because one of my meds that he prescribed makes me want to shovel food in my face for about six hours straight.)
No, not being able to go to the kitchen and feed yourself is *not* okay.
That was my last appointment with that particular psychiatrist.
At my first appointment with the new psychiatrist, he has me take an ADHD test before I left. Of course parts of it are off the charts, like how many alarms I have on my phone to remind me to do things. I seriously have an alarm for an alarm that I will sometimes skip and then hours later realize I did not take my meds. The second alarm usually gets me to stop what I'm doing and go take them.
Long story short, I have inattentive type ADHD. I'm medicated. I *can* go to the kitchen and deal with food because meds are amazing. When I take my meds, the executive dysfunction is gone.
I'm 44 years old, and I finally got my diagnosis.

I hate it when the adhd actually deficits my attention instead of being some cute quirky thing I have

I feel you so much.
I think one of the trickiest things I've experienced having ADHD is people simply calling your behaviours weird. For those who don't know, ADHD means that dopamine (the happiness hormone) doesn't get released regularly throughout the day, and on some days (at least in my experience) it doesn't get released at all. On these No-Dopamine-Days, motivation is impacted massively and everything that would usually make me smile is suddenly boring. But it's more than just being bored, my brain literally can't see the point to doing anything because nothing is giving me dopamine.
Now imagine on one of these days, you randomly find something that starts giving you dopamine. It could be a new song, a comfort movie or a random show. You aren't always able to find something, but when you do, it literally feels like pure gold :^). Which is why I end up repetitively listening to songs on a loop for hours, rewatching the same movie start to finish 5 times a day, or obsessively binge watching and rewatching series (baisically, finding a new hyperfixation or revisting an old/current one)
I'm struggling so hard to find anything that gives me dopamine, and when I've finally found something, I exhaust that resource because there's nothing else that is interesting me or motivating me.
So now imagine that multiple people in my personal life have straight up said that they think that behaviour (rewatching films, looping songs) is weird and that I need to "cut it out". =_=
It's so tricky because I don't know how to explain to them the entire situation because they just call me dramatic, but it really upsets me when they ostrichise me for just like, watching Freinds alot :,-)
So if anyone has been in a similar situation and has any sort of advice I would appreciate it ;-; ! And this is your reminder that rewatching shows + listening to songs on loop is completely valid, there's literally so much worse things you could be doing with your time (TT)

truest.
As a physically chronically ill person with ADHD, it's exhausting watching physically disabled people on here turn against people with ADHD. Like yes actually, ADHD medication is lifesaving, because I would be extremely likely to commit suicide without it. Unless you're willing to say that antidepressants aren't lifesaving, you shouldn't be saying stimulants aren't. And yeah, it's horrible how many paraplegic people die, but that doesn't mean that it's ok that only 5% of college students with ADHD graduate. Like, we are not each other's enemies, and I don't know why you're turning disabled people against each other, especially when there are so many physically disabled ADHD folks.
Also like, when I don't have my ADHD meds, it's even harder to take care of my physical needs, which makes my physical illness worse, so these things actually can interact. If I can't remember my diabetes medication or my meals without my Adderall, then yeah, my Adderall not being filled is physically life threatening.

Hi, welcome to my blog!

Hello, welcome to ADHD&Me! I'm Soda, a queer 18yo with professionally diagnosed Inattentive type ADHD (otherwise known as ADD) as well as anxiety as a comorbidity. When people think ADHD, they sometimes think; "It's so common, it doesn't deserve attention. Everyone and their mothers have ADHD." And yes, while it is a common neurological disorder, it's a very stigmatized and misunderstood one too. People with ADHD deserve more understanding, and to live without shame or guilt. We are not "Lazy" and are more than our inability to concentrate. I'm new to Tumblr and don't really know how the platform works. Still, I hope that my blog will help people, AD(H)Ders or not. If anything from this blog helps you learn, and/or understand anything better, then I did my job.
