Back on my ‘my next character’ twitter bot sketching. This suggestion was “a Kobold Bard who uses a medium-sized scimitar. Imagine Brian Blessed but more challenging.” A fun loose warmup in which I answer the question, “can kobolds have beards?” Bonus progress gif :-)

Could not stop thinking about this character that a character creation twitter bot ( @MyNextCharacter ) came up with: "Dwarf Antipaladin with Maisie Williams's look but Arnold Rimmer's personality." So I sketched her. You bet your butt she polishes that plate and irons her cape twice a day.

More inktober! Fiend Folio days 25&26 combined - Yellow Musk Creeper, and Zombie (yellow musk). The final and ONLY ‘Z’ entry in the FF seemed like a bit of a copout, but the concept is cool. The YMC is a large climbing plant with orchid-like flowers that puff dust to entrance and ensnare a victim. It germinates a seed in the victim’s head, who steadily loses intelligence, until fully controlled by the plant. There’s usually one YMC zombie for every two flowers, and the zombie can be running about for up to two months.
Here ends the A to Z Fiend Folio - with a few missed. Glossing over that, it's onwards to a few of my faves for the rest of the month. Thanks for watching!

Inktober Fiend Folio day 24 - Xvart. Appearing in numbers between 40-400(!) these small blue humanoids fight with hand weapons and giant rats. I went for a gobliny feel - there's no other physical description in the entry, but they're "mediary" between goblins and kobolds. Gross.

Filling in some inktober gaps! Day 22 of the Fiend Folio - Volt. This 'curious but dangerous little creature' is a grumpy, levitating jerk that will attack for no reason. Its body is a rough ball of hair, with huge eyes and lil horns. It uses sharp teeth to latch on and suck blood, while its 3' tail delivers electric shocks. Ended up looking like an evil muppet?

Fiend Folio inktober day 19 - Shadow Demon. Pretty much exactly what you might expect. But the FF makes a point to mention that its wings are too small for flying, and only help it leap/move quickly. SPOOKAY!

Inktober! Fiend Folio! Day 18! Rothé! Basically a 4' tall ox, very shy and lives off moss in their lairs underground. The Fiend folio is very cheeky about just slightly varying real-world animals. What if the Rothé had humany arms and read each others' tarot cards to pass the time?

Inktober! Fiend Folio day 16 - Pernicon. This lil thing is basically a 2" long grasshopper with pincers on its butt. Its antennae can divine water. If it attacks you, it grabs on and drains your fluids thru those pincers. Even on dying it won't let go.

Inktober! Fiend Folio! day 15! Ogrillon. A half ogre, half orc. The entry is kinda boring? They mostly look exactly like orcs but act like ogres, and punch things with their 'horny fists'. Not this ogrillon! She moved to the seaside to become a herbalist.

More inktober! Fiend Folio day 13 - Mephit (fire). The mephit entry is huge, covering a variety of these 5' terrors. Described as 'evil errand-runners', they strut, have shrill voices, and a twisted sense of humour. Fire mephits are red with black streaks, and wisps of flame. They will crash your party.

Inktober! Fiend Folio day 12 - Lamia Noble. Or as we knew her as kids, the 'boob snake'! Honestly the lamia noble's nipples in the original art were so scandalous to us. Lamia nobles are half snake, half human-ish, and can shapeshift. I’ve omitted the nipples because girl, she is so much more than that. For example, you lose 1 point of wisdom permanently each time she touches you.

Inktober! Fiend Folio day 11 - Kelpie. The 1980s D&D kelpie followed folklore sorta, but the Fiend Folio kelpie is more sexy swamp woman than sea horse (surprise). Mechanics-wise it casts charm to drown victims, and is resistant to fire due to slime. Thought while drawing: Is kelp called kelp because of kelpies??

Inktober continues, but might get a bit spotty! Fiend Folio day 9- Iron Cobra. A magically animated segmented automaton that imitates a snake. Activated a by a key word, and often used to guard treasure. It can track down targets by homing in on their psychic vibrations This pic came out more like an actual Fiend Folio entry than most of my other drawings!

Fiend Folio day 6 - FLUMPH! Got my alphabet wrong and did G first :-/ Flumph is awful. Saucer-shaped, mouth between eyestalks, tentacles/spikes below. Shoots liquid through an 'aperture' which makes you stink. Fills your wounds with acid from its tentacles. I gave this jerk teeth and a tongue because it can "communicate in lawful alignment" languages. Also apparently it flies by sucking air through its mouth and farting it out beneath itself.

Fiend Folio day 7 - Gryph. The description is short & odd. A bird with four or more legs & sharp beak, it's the size of an eagle but somehow has eggs small enough to be inserted into a victim's bloodstream with a proboscis(?!). And the eggs hatch chestburster style. Since it lives in caves, I’ve made my Gryph look a bit more like a cave swallow.

Inktober! Day 5 of the Fiend Folio A-Z, “Ettercap”. I guess Ettercaps are pretty well known now? But the FF entry is super brief. A biped with long arms, pot belly & poison fangs. Silk glands near anus (not pictured!) make strong spider silk. "Ettercaps get along well with all sorts of spider". Pretty cute to me, they just chill with all kindsa spiders! Like some sorta poisonous, butt-silk-weaving Hagrid.

Inktober! Day 4 of the Fiend Folio - D is for Death Knight. Gets a lot more fleshing out (so to speak) in later monster manuals, but FF only gives a few facts. A lich created from a fallen paladin, maybe by the Demogorgon. Casts wall of ice at will, amongst other badassery.
This paladin took a piercing blow to the face and now spends her days riding Nightmares, emanating a 5′ radius of fear, and casting 20 dice fireballs.
