it's impossible not to feel the same giddy joy amal (@/amal-ashour-now2) has about being a new mum again, reading those messages

but with it, amal's terrified, because her life isn't even remotely the same as the one it was during her first pregnancy. the beautiful life amal & moatasem created for their new family, turned into nothing but a waking nightmare since oct. 2023. little maryam, who's not even 3, has known a life of bullets and bombs, tents and endless hunger, longer than she's known the life of security and calm her parents provided her with for the first 9 months of her life. and at a time when amal needs to be stress-free, well rested, and to have access to proper nutrition, she's been deprived of all three. now, she's also facing the daunting task of having to start over her campaign (read more about why here).

I reached out to creatives like @tamarrud @feluka @effen-draws @fricklefracklefloof @autisticmudkip to draw pictures and help spread the word about the fundraising campaign to save my family. Amal is a mother of a 2.5-year-old girl living in Gaza. She is four months pregnant and lives with her family, her husband Moatasem, and her two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Maryam. Imagine your sister, mother, brother, friend, or son, who should be at school, with friends, at work, or at university, but instead has to hide from bombs and seek help online to save their family. Her family has suffered more than a year and a half of genocide. They are all hoping to reach safety.

My daughter, Maryam, is only two and a half years old and has lived most of her life in a war zone. She is malnourished. It is every parent's worst nightmare: seeing their only daughter starve and not being able to feed her. Please help me feed my daughter and keep her safe. No child should grow up hearing the sound of bombs. Every child has the right to food and safety. You can help give Maryam the childhood she deserves, where she can sleep in a safe bed at night with a full stomach.

The doctor showed me pictures from the pregnancy test at the hospital. It showed me that I am in my fourth month of pregnancy and need nutritional supplements and healthy food. Every day they spend in Gaza, their lives are in danger because of Israeli bombs, the closure of the crossings, and the lack of proper food and drink. Every day and hour counts. I know there are compassionate and kind people who want to help. Every euro helps. Your donation will bring them one step closer to safety. With love and hope, I ask you to give what you can. Never forget that Palestinians are not just numbers on a death list. Please, I think of each one of them, I think of their names and faces, and I know you can help them. I think of them every day. Here's the thing: people in Gaza are starving.

Israel is weaponising starvation against a besieged population of 2 million, 47% of which are children, as it continues to prevent food from entering Gaza, which also means that any food supply that remains available in Gaza now costs astronomical amounts, making food unaffordable for most people.

My friend Amal (@amalashuor) tells me how they were only able to get rice due to the food shortage. She then told me that her family wasn't even able to afford that bit of rice and had to get it with borrowed money.

Amal's campaign, although says 88% completed, has run out of funds since most of it has been withdrawn and used to get through the past 18 months of genocide. With donations stagnating for weeks now, Amal's family is in dire need of help. Please donate what you can and make sure to please share as well. What's crazy to me is the fees that are deducted from these campaigns that are meant for surviving a genocide.

I found out through Amal (@amalashuor) that gofundme takes a 3% fee to withdraw any amount, the person organising the campaign for her takes 10%, the person that transfers the funds to her bank account also take a 13% fee and eventually, to withdraw in cash, the bank takes a 40% fee!! That's almost 70% of the amount that goes straight to fees. This means that every $1000 eventually turns into a little over $300 only.

This is not to say we need to donate more amounts because I understand times are tough, but it definitely means we need more individuals donating what they can.

Donate to Amal's campaign. Yes, any amount helps but so does sharing. Share her and others' campaigns so that more people can donate what they can. These campaigns are literally their only means of survival right now.

Amal's Daughter Needs Your Help!

Amal @amalashuor and her family have spent the last year and a half struggling to survive the ongoing genocide in Ghazzah. With help from people like you, she was able to raise funds to support her young daughter, her husband, and her extended family. However, Amal and her family still need your help.

Due to the extreme prices and exorbitant fees required to purchase necessities in Ghazzah, Amal has run out of funds she can use from her campaign. She doesn't even have enough to feed her daughter Maryam. When Amal withdraws and transfers money from her campaign, she loses 40% of the amount to fees and commissions, so despite the amount of money shown to be raised in her campaign, she cannot use much of it.

As ceasefire negotiations continue, let's internalize the fact that it always comes down to this: the only thing that gets the United States to relent, if even slightly, from its commitment to imperialism, is when it becomes too costly to maintain.

Not the countless lives lost, not the destruction of infrastructure, not the senseless violence. It always comes down to whether it's more profitable or not to continue.

I hope nobody has any lingering ideas about imperialism having a "conscience" or that it may let up if it is simply convinced that it is doing harm. There are no misunderstandings. They know what they are doing, and have no problem with it. Only when it's too expensive.

Until the machine finishes crunching the numbers and deciding how many more bombs are within its budget, Amal @amalashuor is watching her baby daughter grow up with little food, no shelter, and severe psychological distress. this article was published three weeks ago. no aid has entered gaza since. prices continue to increase and basic necessities (that were already expensive) are becoming unaffordable.

food, clothes, medicines, dairy, and other products have not been allowed in gaza since the end of the ceasefire. it's impossible to live without these things.

in these difficult times, please continue donating to fundraisers supporting large families. they need to buy flour and other necessities more often and in larger quantities and need funds in order to do so.

boycotting a piece of media is quite literally the easiest thing you can do to support the liberation of Palestine and Palestinians. It's so fucking easy. BDS is a decades old Palestinian-led form of peaceful resistance where they have quite literally done the work for you by telling you who to boycott AND providing alternatives. They ask so little, but people can't even boycott a Disney princess movie, can't even miss *one* marvel movie, can't even just not watch the Pedro Pascal zombie show, and can't even skip watching the worst fucking singing contest on Earth. I don't understand. help me understand how it's so hard to just *not* do something. All you have to do is not watch or talk about these things, and instead, do quite literally ANYTHING else. My eyes are filled with tears right now. There are families being massacred every day and, yes, times are hard for everyone in their own way. but the most inexpensive thing being asked of you to help disempower the genocidal war machine killing Palestinians is to just NOT WATCH OR TALK ABOUT a handful of things and wow many of you won't even do that. you are not serious people. you are careless posers and I hope, genuinely, that when you ask people to do a simple thing to help you that you rot from the inside out with the guilt that you couldn't do the same.
