So as previously mentioned, a friend and I went to go see this badass movie on Wednesday and we haven’t stopped talking about it since.
Like naturally this is going to sound pretty bias as we are both women, but honestly we have decided that *out of the films we have seen* this is the best action based movie so far this year. It has ridiculously clever and strong characters, and each of them show extreme vulnerability showing that no one can be strong all of the time. It just made them all so much more real and relatable.
In this day and age it is very hard to find role models, especially when you are an adult, and perhaps the Birds of Prey are not appropriate role models but they are respected and ambitious and I feel if that isn’t acceptable for people later on in life then what is?
I don’t think there was a dull part in that whole movie. The music was nice, justice was served to Ewan McGregor (I hold a grudge against that man.), twas action packed, and the narrative, despite being structured at different points in time flowed brilliantly.
Now for a single woman with dreams which are often crushed and the assurance that I won’t make it on my own, I related to Miss Quinn on a whole notha level. Both Harlequins who have dropped the master and are doing pretty well despite having no plan and just looking for the tasty parts of life. It’s good. And that egg sandwich looked hella good.
Now as far as comic book movies go, this is my favourite. I know I’ve said that before about Spiderman, the Avengers, and The Joker. But I mean it this time. I thought it would be hard to top Joker, I was moved by that one and despite no longer talking to the guy I went with, I treasure it. This blew my mind. Different aspects, different atmospheres, VERY different films. But nah, Birds of Prey all the way.
Sometimes I look back at these reviews and I think I don’t make any sense at all, and in reality haven’t really reviewed the film at all, I don’t care. I like giving praise to these movies and the people involved, so as always thank you, and seriously THANK YOU to every single person involved with this movie. So much was achieved, the make up, the effects, the costume/props, the editing. It was so fast paced and so detailed, it must have been a hard job but so worth it. On that note, please see it, especially if you have recently been through a break up because you will come out the cinema a new person. You are powerful and worth it.

And thus we are now up to date, at least until tomorrow when I go to see Birds of Prey with a friend.
So last night (24/02) I saw the beautiful masterpiece Emma. It has stuck with me since. Now this was one of those times where I had run out of things to watch at the cinema and this was all that was showing, I had half an interest but not one to go out of my way to see this. Let me tell you now that I am seriously debating going to see it a second time because I have been emotionally impacted.
Never did I think that when I saw a strong female character that I half related to burst into tears because of her own actions and breaking her own heart that I, in turn, would also start balling my eyes out. Perhaps ‘balling my eyes out’ is a strong term, I think it was more sudden tears that I couldn’t control more describes the trauma. The worst part was after the initial 10 minutes of the film I found myself way more involved in these characters lives than my own, we are talking seriously invested, I was aggressively shipping Emma and Mr Knightly from the get go.
Also I would just like to mention in the off chance that some poor soul reads these that the scene with Emma’s nosebleed toward the end is pure genius. Soooo many connotations and long story short I am in love with this film!
I’m not sure that I would describe Emma as a ‘rom-com’, it is so many aspects of so many genres that I couldn’t be bias and just label it as one, like I cannot praise this film enough, it made me feel things that I had suppressed for a long long time and tried to ignore and it takes a lot of talent, especially from a brit-based film, to do that. By the end I was envious of the love they have in movies. Such drama, and I want in. There is so much romanticism in dramatic relationships in a way which is both toxic and needful, I crave it. But luckily I’m better off on my own, so I am.
Emma both cinematically and literally is exactly what it says on the tin, Handsome, clever and rich. Even if you think it isn’t your cup of tea, it is, it really is and I need people to recognise such talent!. Also shout out to Johnny Flynn, you’ve come a long way from being the dude in the Cineworld advert which eventually got on my nerves. It gives me no end of pleasure to point out to people who you are and who you’ve grown to be lol.
Well done once more to everyone involved in this film, truly a rich masterpiece and I am so happy I saw it.

I saw this as an Unlimited preview on the 18th of February purely, as previously mentioned, because I work for a water company.
Now I didn’t know what to expect with this one, I saw one (1), uno, singular, trailer, heard the phrase “poisoned by the water” giggled to myself as you’d be AMAZED by the amount of times I have heard this and thought ‘ah might as well see it from another point of view’. AND THEN MY FRIENDS, I was hit by those block white words ‘based on a true story’ and goodness me, I was shook. So much so I cut beef from my diet, recycled properly, EMAILED MY WHOLE TEAM AT WORK ABOUT THIS FILM, and cried. This was powerful.
During the week that has followed, and the drastic changes I have made to my own life I wondered that if I hadn’t of seen those words whether or not the film would have impacted me as much. Do you know what? Yes I think it would. Mark Ruffalo is so sure, so powerful in his delivery during this film that I’d believe in anything shown. I sat in my seat, surrounded by only a handful of strangers (this preview didn’t seem as popular as others I have been to) and genuinely had tears streaming down my face as the realisation of what they had said during the film hit me. I cried and stayed behind for a good 5 minutes after the credits had rolled as the true reality of this world hit me. And not to shock or upset anyone, or really give any spoilers, but the fact that we have all been contaminated and are dying because of not just one big corps selfish actions but many actually breaks my heart. I don’t have many political views, not that it is even political, but people who say that back decades ago there wasn’t such a thing as these serious illness’ cropping up, cancer wasn’t such a huge killer, are absolutely right. And this is because we were not hit by such a huge chemical impact, as the world grew so did we, and as David Attenborough said, we did this to ourselves. I know PFOA or chemicals like it aren’t solely to blame and let’s face it, I am no scientist, but I genuinely think that things like this are the reason that it was 1 in 100 or something people who got cancer or a terminal illness when I was a child (I’m 22) and now almost every single person I know has either got some sort of illness or knows someone who does. Like Thanos, this is inevitable.
So anyway, this film hit me hard, and it isn’t actually out in the UK yet but when it is, please go and see it. If you care about yourself, the environment, or even are just curious on stuff like this, I urge you to go and get your head around this film because it blew my mind. As soon as I mentioned it to my colleagues and started a debate. People threw the film Erin Brockovich at me, now we are doing our research, and I am a little more careful about the impact I leave. And I no longer laugh when someone asks for the exact chemical breakdown of something.
Honestly thank you to everyone involved. And to the real Robert Billot, thank you so much for fighting and not giving up. Justice has not yet been served but we’ve come a long, long way.
In terms of the actual film, it is powerful, engaging, and beautifully shot. The plot itself, true, is well structured and perhaps it is a mind game to get you on side but it worked. Pick your corner.

So, a little backdating to be done here as I’m behind on life....
On the 15/02/2020 I saw this little gem, the second time I had ever gone to the cinema on my own and I was having a blast. Twas a stormy Saturday morning with storm Ciara battering the cliffs and yet this film was a downright cheery delight in contrast.
I’ll tell you what, I cannot believe that this bombed at the box office, so much so that I tweeted my support of the film as soon as I got home from seeing it just to thank everyone involved..
Don’t get me wrong, it is exactly what you’d expect when you see the trailer, broken man with a sad back story, drawn out of being a recluse by matter he cannot avoid, saves lives on the way and can talk to animals. Box standard animal related kids movie. But that is exactly what makes it fun! In my opinion we are at the point where we are so focused on beating and remaking what has come before that we have forgotten how good something so basic and simple can be. This film puts a smile on your face no matter how little it does to impress. It doesn’t need to astound.
My favourite part of watching a movie full of big names you can’t see is trying to guess who is who. Now this is only a fun game to play if you did little to no research of the film before you went to see it, much like I did, spur of the moment and yet a brilliant choice.
Now this is a bold move, and granted Dolittle isn’t quite on the same page as the masterpiece Paddington, however I shall use this as a comparison none the less. Dolittle is exactly like Paddington in the sense that it is the perfect film to curl up on the sofa to, especially if you are feeling a wee bit nostalgic. Picture this: Chilly sunday afternoon, you’re on a wind down before going to work tomorrow, its raining, you’ve got a hot drink or tipple of your choice and the room smells like you’re favourite food, you need a film which isn’t too hard to follow and is warm and cosy just how you are feeling. Dolittle is the one. Mission complete.
I would just like to say that despite this film being simple and friendly, but good none the less. It is probably one that you’d only be able to see a handful of times before being able to quote what happens line for line. Despite big names, it is just a box standard, cosy sunday afternoon.
Regardless, a huge shout out to none other than Susan Downey on this film as it was beautifully done and the inclusion of the watercolour art on the pages (memory is hazy) was genius. I wish I had your talent to piece this stuff together. (Original dream was to be a director/producer, now dabble in stop motion animation and work for a water company...don’t think there’s a chance for me)
And once again huge thanks to everyone involved, the talent in delivery astounds and you’ve all done so well. None of you will see this but if you do, be proud of yourselves, literally everyone involved.

New Blog, new me. Finding the positive in everything while doing what I do best.
So I’ve been having a tough time, and while I’m now better I have come across a few hiccups. In recent weeks to overcome this I’ve come back to reviewing, while I find myself alone and have recently started going to the cinema on my own, as it turns out it’s a nice experience, thus far we begin my new reviewing blog, starting with the first film I saw on my toddlett.
Ya know, for a film that didn’t give me high hopes to begin with, I was blown away! Obviously highly talked about before its release was the appearance of Sonic himself. Let me just say that it was so worth the remodel! I can’t speak on behalf of the whole box office but I’m sure that is why it has done so well at the moment, the right look certainly helped me become more absorbed in the movie!
In the years that I’ve gone quiet I’ve forgotten how genuinely talented Jim Carrey is and so I’d just like to take a moment for everyone who has seen this film, and everyone who is going to see this film, to fully appreciate this man. It takes sheer talent to spring from dead serious to slapstick and all the emotions in between and Mr. Carrey is flawless.
As for James Marsden, I can only imagine how hard it is to emote next to something which technically isn’t there, his performance alongside our animated friend needs a round of applause, as he genuinely made me believe that Sonic was real for a moment there.
As for the actual film itself it is action packed, kid friendly, fast paced (pun intended), and quite funny. I can’t say I was much of a gamer as a kid but the occasional games I did play sometimes involved Sonic and so from my experience I’d say this film has done the legend justice. I’d love to go into a bit more detail but it has only been out in the UK for 4 days so I’d really appreciate it if you take my word for it and go and see Sonic to make your own mind up, I don’t wanna give any spoilers!
All in all, a pretty positive review, and despite the fact I haven’t mentioned a single negative thing, I’d like thank and applaud the whole production team and everyone involved in this film for bringing Sonic to life once more, and for all the hard work put in, you’ve all done amazing, praise where praise is due!
