NASA Grants SpaceX Contract To Fly Spacecraft Into Asteroid: What's The Objective Of DART Mission?

DART will be the first-ever NASA mission to deflect an asteroid from space by using a kinetic impactor. The mission costs $69 million.  NASA recently awarded SpaceX a $69 million government contract to deflect incoming asteroids that are on a collision course with the planet.What's The Objective Of The DART Mission?A year later, in October 2022, the DART mission will then intercept a small moon of the binary asteroid Didymos. The asteroid will be 11 million kilometers away from Earth, NASA said.Aside from the DART mission, scientists are also looking into the possibility of using self-driving spacecraft to prevent asteroid collisions.After three years, the Hera spacecraft will then arrive on Didymos's moon to analyze it as well as the crater left by the impact.Sara Mazrouei, a planetary scientist from the University of Toronto, said spotting asteroids on collision with Earth is a "game of probabilities."Still, preventing asteroid collisions are important because it not only allows scientists to learn more about cosmic objects, it also ensures the safety of the planet itself.Lastly, research has shown that the best technique to divert an asteroid from its impact course largely depends on the scenario. iOS 13 will bring a number of aesthetic changes both to iPhone and iPad. Apple’s next WWDC starts June 3, and there might be more information by then.   Dark ModeThis dark mode option, missing in the current iteration of iOS, will span across Apple's default apps and implement a darker overhaul to the entire operating system. Most users prefer this mode because it's less straining on the eyes, especially when turning the phone on in the dark. Research also suggests darker backgrounds and elements make the battery last longer.In addition to dark mode and multi-window support, Apple is also said to make it easier for users to select multiple items in a list. Exactly how this might look like remains to be determined, though.Apple is said to introduce a number of interface and design changes, among them a less obtrusive volume level indicator. Mail is also getting some enhancements, including the ability to manage fonts and set up collaboration when multiple people are working on a document in the same app. Safari for iPad will automatically ask for the desktop version of websites when necessary, which prevents a common scenario in which a mobile version of a site is rendered even when running on an iPad with a large screen. Chinese Experiment Creates Super Monkeys With Human Brain Genes

Gene-hacked monkeys that had human brain genes in their genomes appeared to be smarter than their unaltered peers. However, the scientific community raised ethical questions on the use of transgenic monkeys for experiments.  ( Pixabay ) Gene-Editing Technique "This was the first attempt to understand the evolution of human cognition using a transgenic monkey model," said Bing Su, a geneticist at Kunming Institute of Zoology. Although the monkeys did not develop a larger-than-usual brain size, they appeared to be better than average in memory tests and processing abilities. The gene-hacked monkeys showed better reaction times and enhanced short-term memories compared to their unaltered peers. Other scientists regarded Su's latest experiment as reckless, as they questioned the ethics of genetically modifying primates. "Macaque monkeys are highly intelligent fellow primates who form intricate social relationships, experience every emotion humans do and can suffer just as much as we can. Tesla debuted its latest creation, the Model Y, at an event in Los Angeles this week.
