It only takes a second, Vincent learns.

Only moments passed between them as Lovely’s playful smile dropped, their muscles twitched, and Vincent sensed the two nervous heartbeats approaching the front door.

Lovely was out the bedroom door before Vincent even processed what was happening.

They were rushing down the hallway, faster than Vincent could go now, but they were clumsy. The vampiric agility that Vincent is so attuned to was not completely accepted by Lovely’s body, the younger vampire not fully in control of their speed. They stumbled once, twice, and it gave Vincent the milliseconds he needed to catch Lovely as they rounded the corner to the foyer.

While Lovely was faster, Vincent was stronger. His arms latched around their midsection, pinning their arms to their sides and pressing them flush against him. Their resistance was immediate as Lovely fought in his hold, trying to shimmy out of his vice grip in any way they knew how.

“No!” Lovely cried in unison with the chime of the doorbell.

Vincent could hear the concerned mumbles outside the door, taste their nervous energy, and sense their strong auras. He knew they should be able to sense his and Lovely’s, too, and have the good sense to leave before the situation got worse. He tightened his grip on Lovely as they threw their head back to harshly collide with his shoulder.

Make sure to give it to Davey at his wedding day ok? I love you!!" -Mama Shaw <3 but his dad was never able to give it to him
