It's been really hot these last couple days so, with you: recently appointed peak lord Shang Qinghua, trying not to melt while enjoying the view of his new leisure house (bonus for visible baizhan peak in tbe bg too)

A lot of people around me are having kids and every day it becomes more apparent that hitting your children to punish them is insane because literally everything can be a horrible punishment in their eyes if you frame it as such.

Like, one family makes their toddler sit on the stairs for three minutes when he hits his brother or whatever. The stairs are well lit and he can see his family the whole time, he’s just not allowed to get up and leave the stairs or the timer starts over. He fucking hates it just because it’s framed as a punishment.

Another family use a baseball cap. It’s just a plain blue cap with nothing on it. When their toddler needs discipline he gets a timeout on a chair and has to put the cap on. When they’re out and about he just has to wear the cap but it gets the same reaction. Nobody around them can tell he’s being punished because it’s in no way an embarrassing cap, but HE knows and just the threat of having to wear it is enough.

And there isn’t the same contempt afterwards I’ve seen with kids whose parents hit them. One time the kid swung a stick at my dog, his mother immediately made him sit on the stairs, he screamed but stayed put, then he came over to my dog and gently said “Sorry Ellie” and went back to playing like nothing happened, but this time without swinging sticks at the nearby animals.

biggest L i've had to take from morning people is that the hours between 5 - 9 am really do have 7x as much time in them than the ones between 9 pm - 1 am and you can get your whole day's worth of shit done by noon

Random thought of the night:

Man, collage Shifty does not have to worry when he meets his next shapeshifter. After meeting John, Darcy and Marcy, he's learned all the tricks! He knows exactly how to become friends with the next shapeshifter he sees!

He just goes straight to tackling them. Apparently shapeshifters are shy, better to just skip straight to football tackling them into the bushes.

And of course, by the next shapeshifter, I mean Maurice. Because I've decided this is the man I must bother. I must subject him to the youth. Specifically being jumped by said youth.

I was musing on this the other day, but i find it delightful how popular Maurice is considering i put a full three thoughts into making them and they only barely appeared in Doppelganger. I just made them so easy to torture is the thing, in ways that are too cozy for everyone. They show up and they're already suffering, meanwhile all the other characters could be doing anything from having a barbecue to reviving their dead brother. Ya'll just love to watch them get the worst experiences (talking to people).

Which is to say, i have been greatly tempted to write a chapter of Shifty goes to college with them in it, and you are so correct in that Shifty would full body tackle this old shapeshifter to the ground. They don't have a Stan here to socialize them but without the plus of being their spawn. Maurice is just straight annoyed by this group of young shifters but due to Circumstances they are forced to be in some kind of charge of them until death finally claims them.

Just imagine The College Shifter group and their old mentor Maurice with their total wet cat energy. They don't want to be there, Marcy is terrified of them (correct), Jon is nervous but eager to learn their old shifter ways (bad) and Shifty wants to introduce them to his parents (awful, die). Shifty isn't their spawn or grandspawn, he is a menace to the peace and too interested in their life. Alas the only other options to teach him anything are Jon (who has amnesia and is thus useless) or Marcy (who has angst (not a problem in their opinion) and is also a assassin in training (also not a problem, but their circle has decided its become Maurice's job to make sure this clueless wild shifter doesn't totally blow their society because he gets to murder happy and has no fear.

For Marcy its the equivalent of Shifty coming home saying 'i made a new friend :)' then showing off this ancient dragon who is just laying there while Shifty gets in their buisness, not because it can't get rid of him but because its been strong armed into making sure Shifty doesn't go on a shapeshifting rampage. It wants to go back to retirement please and thank you.
