Billy Kaplan and Teddy Altman

Both Wiccan (Billy Kaplan) and Hulkling (Teddy Altman) were members of the Young Avengers which was formed when the regular Avengers had disbanded. They were attempting to mimic the looks and codenames of original Avengers. Wiccan taking a look similar to Thor (even originally calling himself Asgardian), and Hulkling taking a name that obviously comes from the Hulk, even though neither character had any connections to Thor or Hulk. The two have been held in high praise as Marvel's most prominent LGBT couple, and are currently engaged to be married. Their relationship has never been a secret. Also, my personal favorite couple!

Northstar and Kyle

Northstar's relationship with Kyle as a way to write an inspiring story about characters who feel like outsiders even among outsiders. Here are two people, trying to live their lives mutant and gay, black and gay. Empowered in their own ways, but also fringe dwellers. And they're making it happen. They're living life on their own terms. It doesn't matter that it's a superhero comic, the message is: You can be yourself.  Northstar a mutant with powers, then Kyle on the other hand is a normal human being. He posses no super powers or mutant genes. But, he’s very supportive of his lover Northstar and continues to be.

Iceman and Romeo

All New X-Men comic, the popular mutant Iceman locks lips with another character named Romeo who reportedly “belongs to a rival class of superhuman known as Inhumans.” In the comic, the pair go on a series of dates, ultimately leading to their big, romantic moment. As a big fan of marvel it warms my heart to see things finally unfolding and expanding into the lgbtq+ community.

Iceman and Judah

To be clear, there are two Icemans currently running around the comics X-Men universe. There is the adult Iceman, the same one that comic fans have grown up with since the 1960s. There is also a time-displaced Iceman, after teenage Bobby was brought from the past to the present. Teen Bobby was outed by psychic Jean Grey, and has since come out, kissed a guy and got a boyfriend. It was revealed it wasn’t just teen Bobby that was coming to terms with being gay, it was adult Bobby too.  Fortunately, things are looking up for Iceman aka Bobby Drake, as the superhero is sharing his own first gay kiss with a guy he met in Los Angeles named Judah, and it’s adorable.

Alan Scott (Greenlantern) Sam Zaho

Alan Scott was a young, openly gay media mogul, who dedicated his work to the heroes who gave their lives three years prior in the war against Darkseid. He was in a relationship with Sam Zhao, and while on a business trip in Sam's native China, he worked up the nerve to propose. Unfortunately, just before Sam could accept the proposal, the train crashed suddenly, killing nearly every passenger except Alan - including Sam.

Daken

Back in the '40s Wolverine was married to a nice Japanese girl, but in an effort to bring Wolverine out of hiding, his pregnant wife was murdered by the Winter Soldier. The baby survived and was raised by a Japanese family where the servants referred to him as "Daken" which translated as "bastard dog."Eventually, Daken was told that it was his father, Logan, who had murdered his mother because his father didn't want a child. Eager to get revenge, he began training so the could find and murder his father. Daken's mutation is similar to that of Wolverine's: he has three retractable bone claws (two in the knuckles and one in the wrist) on each hand, and the traditional healing factor, but he also can produce pheromones to confuse those around him, and has often used them to confuse and manipulate straight men he claims to be bisexual.

Colossus

Colossus  grew jealous amongst the romance of his team mates. Eventually he grew fond of wolverine. Although Colossus remains protective of Wolverine, he realizes his affections are unrequited. Piotr was briefly interested in Longshot, a mutant whom he and his teammates rescued in Krakoa, but later learned Longshot was a murderer. More recently, there have been hints of a romantic spark between Colossus and mutant speedster Northstar (Jean-Paul Beaubier); but as more of Piotr's friends pursue inter-team relationships, Colossus's self-doubt and feelings of isolation may yet return. 

Loki

As we will find out later on, Loki's history is ripe with gender swapping and confusing sexual proclivities. Apparently he inherited all that from his biological father -- or should we say mother. It's tough to say. A  pansexual shapeshifter who has changed into animals and women in the past, Loki has also had relationships with men and women, but there has been no clear orientation before the book’s proposal.

Moondragon and Phyla-Vell

Moondragon's backstory is pretty intense, and even though she is openly bi-sexual and has been romantically linked to heroes like Thor and Daredevil she has been most recently romantic with Phyla-Vell.

Mystique and Destiney ──── •°.༻ ❁ ༺.°• ────

In the comics, Mystique is openly bisexual (which I guess works when you can shapeshift to either gender!). If you've seen an X-Men movie then you know that the beautiful blue shapeshifter Mystique has played a pivotal role in the X-Men franchise. One of the biggest characters that influenced her comic counterpart however has never appeared: her partner Destiny.

Karolina and Xavin ──── •°.༻ ❁ ༺.°• ────

Xavin came to earth to marry Karolina Dean, but was turned down because she said that she was attracted to females. But Xavin revealed that this was not a problem because Skrull are natural shape shifters, meaning that he could change gender as easily as she could change her clothes. So Karolina left with him to get married. The intricacies of Xavin and Karolina Dean's relationship and the nature of their sexuality together are not completely understood by the Runaways, but appear mostly homosexual.

Spiderwoman

Another example from the Ultimate universe is Jessica Drew - Spider-Woman. In the main comic continuity, Drew was a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent that had been experimented on by Hydra to be given powers. She took the name of Spider-Woman but was unrelated to Spider-Man in any way. However, in the Ultimate universe she was one of the many clones created based on Peter Parker. This version of Drew eventually joined the Ultimates by invitation of Nick Fury, however in this universe she's expressed interest in women, and in her words: "especially redheads and Jews."

Hulkling is the extraterrestrial hybrid offspring of an enhanced Kree warrior, Captain Marvel, and Skrull royalty, Princess Anelle, resulting in various abilities derived from the unique combination of his parents’ genetic material. His powers exceed those of ordinary individuals of either race; they most likely are much stronger than those of other potential hybrids due to his father’s various enhancements prior to Hulkling’s conception. His shape-shifting and accelerated healing factor derive from his Skrull heritage, while his superhuman strength originates from his enhanced Kree background.

His shape-shifting abilities allow him to impersonate others, independently alter parts of his body, and manifest different physical abilities. For example, he can form claws, extend his reach, create body armor, and grow wings (which enable him to fly). Hulkling can use his shapeshifting to increase his body’s density and composition, giving him a very strong resistance to pain and injury. He is able to withstand great impact forces, such as falls from great heights, repeated bludgeoning from superhumanly strong beings, and powerful energy blasts without sustaining injury. High caliber bullets and bladed weapons are also unable to pierce his skin. Hulkling’s shapeshifting also demonstrated the ability to operate without his conscious thought in order to protect himself from injury; his body shifted its biomass to protect vital organs, while the Warden of The Cube was attempting to vivisect him in Civil War: Young Avengers/Runaways. His healing factor allows him to heal wounds quickly, but not on a scale with Wolverine or Hulk.

Hulkling’s alien anatomy also prevents him from being controlled by pheromone-based powers, such as those used by Daken. In recent stories Teddy had come into possession of a mystical cosmic 🗡️ owned by his ancestor, Dorrek Supreme. The alien blade called Excelsior passes down to those only of Dorrek’s line and whosoever holds said 🗡️ in ✋ has unmitigated sovereignty over both the Kree and Skrull races as well as lord to the Knights of Infinity, entitling the user to kingship of all the cosmos.

It’s skein alone has arcane abilities such as negating and absorbing magic as well as canceling out eldritch entities like the last being from a deceased reality that proceeded the current universe using its 🔪 edge.

During the Kree-Skrull War, the Super-Skrull kidnapped Captain Marvel, Quicksilver and the Witch and presented them to the Skrull Emperor. While being imprisoned, Captain Marvel and the Emperor’s daughter, Princess Anelle, had a brief affair and she conceived a 👶. Fearing for his safety, Anelle sent the 👶 away with her nursemaid immediately after his birth. The servant took the 👶 to 🌍 to be raised by his father, but after arriving on 🌍 she learned that Captain Marvel had died. Mrs. Altman decided to raise the 👶 as her own and posed as a single mother working in real estate and named the 👶 Theodore “Teddy” Rufus Altman.

Exchanges between Wiccan (before Wiccan was called Asgardian) and Hulkling (and the latter’s character design) in early issues of Young Avengers led some readers to speculate that the two young men had a much more intimate bond than mere friendship. As early as Young Avengers #2, each issue’s letters page included an exchange of reader opinions between people who supported and people who were against the portrayal of gay superheroes. Allan Heinberg confirmed this speculation at a San Diego convention panel, stating that his intent was to reveal the relationship in issue #12, and he was surprised that his subtle clues were picked up on so quickly.

In Young Avengers Special, the team agrees to give an interview to Kat Farrell and Jessica Jones, and warns Billy and Teddy that Farrell will probably ask if the rumors about them are true. After some deliberation, the two decide to tell her, referencing one of Marvel’s most prominent gay superheroes when Teddy adds, “Why should Northstar have all the fun?”

In Cable & Deadpool #30, Deadpool is caught by Captain America’s Secret Avengers, with whom the Young Avengers had merged. Deadpool, a typical breaker of the fourth wall, made a subtle dig at Hulkling and Wiccan’s sexuality by referring to the team as “…The Ripe, Nubile Young Avengers! And I’m especially discomfited to admit that Wiccan and Hulkling are looking especially nubile…”

In this post I want to inform all those who are generally confused by a few factors of Wiccan. Many have vague knowledge of Wiccan and speeds parents. Many don't understand Wiccan's powers in general, but don't worry we'll cover all those facts down below.

Powers and abilities

Wiccan possesses the ability to manipulate magical energies for a seemingly limitless variety of effects. While patterning himself after Thor in the guise of Asgardian, Billy limited himself entirely to flight and lightning based spells. By stating an intent and focusing on the outcome, Wiccan is capable of a variety of feats, including, but not limited to: energy manipulation, solid energy constructs, healing, flight, force-field generation, telekinesis, telepathy, teleportation, portal creation, concussive blasts, spellcasting, enchantments, clairvoyance, astral projection, pyrokinesis, photokinesis, and electricity manipulation.

He demonstrates the ability to cast sophisticated spells without speaking, such as changing from his costume to civilian clothing, levitating and controlling objects via telekinesis and/or create clothing, décor, objects and food from seemingly nothing. He was able to render twenty armed terrorists comatose with a single thought when he lost control of his powers, causing concern among his teammates and the Avengers. Somehow when he was captured and put into the Cube and the warden put special high-tech ear-plugs on him that allowed him to hear everything but his own voice, he was unable to cast any kind of spell and was rendered helpless.

Wiccan was one of the many possible candidates for the title of Sorcerer Supreme, and has been described by the Vision as "one of the most powerful mages on the planet."

In Young Avengers vol. 2, it is revealed by Loki that Wiccan is destined to ascend to a god-like reality warper who will rewrite the rules of magic known as the Demiurge. He briefly achieves this form, and is able to view the past, present and future, as well as freely alter the universe. However, deciding that he is not ready to wield this power, he relinquishes it and reverts to his human form.

In Doctor Strange and the Sorcerers Supreme, Stephen Strange travels to a dimension in which past and future Sorcerer Supremes are all gathered. Billy is revealed to become the Sorcerer Supreme in the future after Stephen.

Parentage and creation

In order to create children (Wiccan and Speed) the Scarlet Witch unknowingly stole two peices of a soul from the demon Mephisto and built apon them. She gave birth to two healthy baby's, but her friends and family soon noticed somthing very wrong. Due to the witches power to manipulate reality, the lost souls developed into two boys. Though, because she could not control such a power every time the Witch was not thinking of the babies or using her magic, they would simply disappear.

Even the heart broken Vision soon realized that his children were nothing without his wifes power. He tried to comfront her about it, but she refused to listen. In order to keep his wife content he went along with it. Raising the spirit children. One day the Vision was taken by the goverment and ripped apart. He no longer could feel emotion and rememberd little of his wife and children. The Witch went insane with grief but the last straw was when her friends comfronted her about her disappearing children. She went completly mad and joined her fathers side again. The decision was made by Agatha Harkness and Doctor Strange to erase the kids from her mind to restore her sanity.

The demon Mephisto later tried to take the souls back, but due to The Scarlet Witches magic, the children were to real and developed to be taken, the souls had become the children. Without her knowledge of the twins souls, they moved to other parents and completly rewrote their genetic code so they could be born again. Though that being said his birth parents are Jeff Kaplan and Rebecca Kaplan.

Exchanges between Wiccan and Hulkling had led to speculation that the two teens had a much more intimate bond than mere friendship. Allan Heinberg confirmed this speculation, stating that his intent was to reveal the relationship, and he was surprised that his subtle clues were picked up on so quickly.

Kate advises that Asgardian should change his codename to avoid puns regarding his sexuality when the press discovers that he's in a relationship with Hulkling, implying that the others already knew the two are gay. Kate, along with Stature, suggested the codename, "Wiccan," which Billy adopts.

When the team agrees to give an interview to Kat Farrell, Jessica Jones warns Billy and Teddy that Farrell will probably ask if the rumors about them are true. After some deliberation, the two decide to tell Farrell, with Teddy adding, "Why should Northstar have all the fun?"

In Young Avengers Presents #3, Hulkling and Wiccan's romantic relationship is handled much more openly than previous issues. In it, they refer to one another as boyfriends. Speed also asks if their relationship is "getting hot and heavy" and jokes that Billy and Teddy would have a disastrous "mixed marriage" due to Teddy's alien heritage.

In the aftermath of The Children's Crusade, Billy falls into a months long depression, watching from the sidelines as New York is turned into "Spider Island" and the Human Torch is resurrected. Teddy is able to bring Billy back "out of the dark" by proposing to him.

In Young Avengers Vol. 2, Billy and Teddy's relationship is tested due to the meddling of Loki, who plants the idea in Teddy's head that he is not real and was unknowingly created by Billy using his reality warping powers. Teddy is kissed by Prodigy. The couple reconcile at the conclusion of the storyline and are last seen happily dancing together at Marvel Boy's party.

Brief history before becoming a hero

Billy Kaplan is the eldest of three sons born to Jeff Kaplan, a cardiologist, and Rebecca Kaplan, a psychologist.

Regularly bullied in school because of his homosexuality, Billy found solace outside the gates of the Avengers Mansion. One day, Billy encountered the Avenger the Scarlet Witch, who told him to stand his ground the next time it happens. She then touched his head, causing a red light to flash briefly. The flash healed Billy's wounds, and a few weeks later, he stood up for another kid being bullied, demonstrating his mutant powers for the first time, and nearly killing his tormentor.
