The funniest thing to me about the tiktok app being brought back so quickly is that I had completely moved on in the short period it was gone and didn't realise it was back until days later when @ryemiffie started complaining that I wasn't ❤ing the Rick Sanchez thirst trap edits they were sending me (for reference, I hate rick and morty, especially rick)

Okay on the topic of the tiktok ban, I will now be ranting about one of my least favourite things about tiktok and in general short form content.

Videos that are so clearly engagement baiting. like, startung a video with "this TERRIBLE TRADEGY is gonna affect everyone on earth and YOU need to be informed!" And then they talk vaguely about the topic for a full minute leaving the viewer to believe the emergency news will be presented just deeper into the video and that all this vague crap is somehow relevant. Only for the video to end with the person saying "so actually it doesn't matter at all" meaning you just wasted a whole minute!

It's dumb, it's clearly just trying to get the viewer engaged long for them to meet their monetization requirements, and while I could be totally behind someone getting that bag, not if it means starting your video by spreading alarming misinformation! If you'd like to make video making your career you need to have something more to offer than misinformation to grab attention and then vague details on an event or action that they got from an uncredible source. Like, do they tell their mom this is their job? Do they go to their mom and say "yep, I posted a video that scared older white women with misinformation and then revealed at the end that it didn't matter at all, and that's my whole career! That's what my livelyhood depends on!"

they can try all they want but AI speed paints/art process videos will never capture the intensely human artistic endeavor of drawing and undoing and redrawing the same simple shape or line 400 times rapidfire in a drawing thats pushing you closer to the edge with every lift of the pen
