The sentences "Asexuals can still have sex" and "Aromantics can still date" need to go up on the high shelf for everyone except aces and aros talking about their own experiences. From now on, everyone else has to use the revolutionary new phrase "Asexuals and aromantics can do whatever the fuck they want forever."

All I could think of when drawing this was David Bowie's "As the World Falls Down":
“Wasn't too much fun at all But I'll be there for you As the world falls down Falling As the world falls down Falling Falling in love”

Me for the last 15 years: Starting a timer when you have to wait for something or stand in line can be helpful, because no matter how impatient you feel you can check the timer and remind yourself it has not been several eternities and has in fact only been five minutes.
Me setting a timer when I got to bag claim just now: I'm so clever! I will now be reminded that it's only been five minutes and bag claim usually takes about twenty!
Me looking at the timer thoughtfully: ...another Very Neurotypical Moment With Sam, it appears.

Hey everyone, remember that being sick or healing from injuries is a hard time for your body. You have to eat a lot and lay still and be kind to yourself! [large neon sign that says HYPOCRITE descends from the ceiling and points at me] Hey what the heck what's this who put that there

>First, we’ve discovered that about a quarter of all the internet connection in or out of the house were ad related. In a few hours, that’s about 10,000 out of 40,000 processed.
>We also discovered that every link on Twitter was blocked. This was solved by whitelisting the https://t.co domain.
>Once out browsing the Web, everything is loading pretty much instantly. It turns out most of that Page Loading malarkey we’ve been accustomed to is related to sites running auctions to sell Ad space to show you before the page loads. All gone now.
>We then found that the Samsung TV (which I really like) is very fond of yapping all about itself to Samsung HQ. All stopped now. No sign of any breakages in its function, so I’m happy enough with that.
>The primary source of distress came from the habitual Lemmings player in the house, who found they could no longer watch ads to build up their in-app gold. A workaround is being considered for this.
>The next ambition is to advance the Ad blocking so that it seamlessly removed YouTube Ads. This is the subject of ongoing research, and tinkering continues. All in all, a very successful experiment.
>Certainly this exceeds my equivalent childhood project of disassembling and assembling our rotary dial telephone. A project whose only utility was finding out how to make the phone ring when nobody was calling.
Tumblr media
>Update: All4 on the telly appears not to have any ads any more. Goodbye Arnold Clarke!
Tumblr media
>Lemmings problem now solved.
>Can confirm, after small tests, that RTÉ Player ads are now gone and the player on the phone is now just delivering swift, ad free streams at first click.
>Some queries along the lines of “Are you not stealing the internet?” Firstly, this is my network, so I may set it up as I please (or, you know, my son can do it and I can give him a stupid thumbs up in response). But there is a wider question, based on the ads=internet model.
>I’m afraid I passed the You Wouldn’t Download A Car point back when I first installed ad-blocking plug-ins on a browser. But consider my chatty TV. Individual consumer choice is not the method of addressing pervasive commercial surveillance.
>Should I feel morally obliged not to mute the TV when the ads come on? No, this is a standing tension- a clash of interests. But I think my interest in my family not being under intrusive or covert surveillance at home is superior to the ad company’s wish to profile them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
>Aside: 24 hours of Pi Hole stats suggests that Samsung TVs are very chatty. 14,170 chats a day.
>YouTube blocking seems difficult, as the ads usually come from the same domain as the videos. Haven’t tried it, but all of the content can also be delivered from a no-cookies version of the YouTube domain, which doesn’t have the ads. I have asked my son to poke at that idea.

rewatching early c2 as a shadowgast girlie is so funny. local dirty hobo (his words not mine) makes mittens out of bread and runs scams to scrape together a few silver pieces, blissfully unaware that in less than 2 years time he will be romantically cohabiting with like. the lucrezia borgia of wildemount. and if anything HE will be wearing the pants in that relationship.

Tumblr is super big on the "I didn't say it was good, I said I liked it" but really need to discover the value in its opposite of "I didn't say it was bad, I said I hated it".
You can acknowledge that something is good, great, a masterpiece even, and just straight-up not enjoy it.

Icarus Wept
How can they blame you for the fall, then call you a child in the same breath?
Is it fair to say your cause-of-death was youth?
They cry “reckless,” and “impulsive,” and “foolhardy”
Because they forget how it is to be fifteen and free,
Still learning the taste of danger one fall at a time.
And really, what’s so dangerous about a fall when you’re young?
Your bones still work, and you can pick yourself up like nothing ever happened.
Right?
How many times have you heard, “Just get back up and keep going”?
Why would this be any different?
Right?
And who could blame you for reaching, with how little sun you saw while locked away?
They don’t blame the sailors for falling for a siren’s song, it’s too powerful.
And teenagers break rules all the time, it’s their way of being heard.
How were you to grasp the magnitude of the consequences at stake?
Every child is born full of hubris, they don’t know anything else.
Time tempers hubris into wisdom, if you have the chance to wait long enough.
And why do they expect you to have been any different?
Because you had already spent most of your life?
How could you have known?
They don’t realize the example they caution their children with
Just didn’t exist when you were being cautioned.
How could you have known?
I hope that when your cries were swallowed by the wind,
You didn’t blame yourself.
I hope that when your tears were absorbed by the feathers,
You realized the injustice of your position.
I hope that as your life was swallowed by the sea,
You spared a curse for the one who doomed you.
Because perhaps it is not the child who is to blame
But the bastard whose escape plan hinged on wax.

the secret to organising any kind of trip with your friends is to become the benevolent dictator. do NOT wait for everyone to provide a consensus on things before you book anything. do it and then ask for feedback after. do not ask people what they would like to do just tell them what is happening and let them all nod along like the sheep they are. this is the ONLY way to coordinate a group of adults in their 20s/30s
