Thoughts on Toriel-
I think Toriel is such a well written character but I can't help but wish she had a better fate (in most routes). I have just finished an exiled queen route, and it's genuinely heartbreaking knowing that she tries and tries to save others and repeatedly fails. Chara, Asriel, the other humans, she was opposed to Asgore killing them. This is just emphasised by her tree, that drops it's leaves every time a new one grows, representing the children that appear and die. Toriels boss fight is painful too as she feels powerless, unable to save you.
Even at the end, in the route I just did, she attempts to bring peace as Queen, and is instead exiled, criticised for her hopes of peace.
I also feel awful whenever I do soulless pacifist, as even in the "happy ending", Toriel is implied to be harmed or killed by chara. (Or just that chara steals your ending, but I feel like the crossed out faces/chara waking up is more ominous)
But yeah, Toriel's awesome.

Aphys appreciation post!
I just wanted to talk about how well Alphys is written as a character. She's universally liked by the fandom, but in reality, she's an extremely complex character. Initially, after meeting her, she helps you by upgrading your phone, helping you with puzzles and (sometimes) turning off lasers. However she did design Mettaton with the purpose for killing humans. This could hint at a darker, more conflicted past, but I rather think she was (or felt) pressured into it by others around her. And to be fair, to be raised in a world that hates humans, its almost impossible to have sympathy for them. The only reason alphys helped the human is because she knew they were peaceful, as she had been observing them.
However, in aphys's past, in the true lab, we see some of the experiments she carried out, preserving monsters bodies, trying to manipulate determination, and even (accidentally?) creating flowey. I think this sort of history, is what led alphys to have self esteem issues, feel anxious and sad. One of my favourite parts of the game is when alphys asks the human to watch a TV show with her, and she confesses how she had in the past felt worthless, but helping others made her feel good about herself. The main takeaway I get from this is that her job for the king in the past wasn't fulfilling, and it made her feel worse.
I think her whole history is important, and I love how her life grew better in the end (true pacifist anyway).

I genuinely hate those "I pay the bill and she cooks in a thong videos" and it's even more embarassing when women are like "aww, green flag 🥹" "I love it, this is what you call a provider" and.... I think that people very easily forget that the hand that feeds you can also starve you. Also, what about when he no longer finds the sight of her in a thong attractive? Oh, yes, he cheats on her and then the woman has to stay in an unhappy marriage because she is financially dependent on him....sucks. We live in a capitalist society, meaning that EVERYTHING is dependent on how much money you have, you give the responsibility of that to someone else, you're fucked for life and I really want all the girls to understand this. It's okay if he wants to pay for everything, you should still be working and have an account just in case. Your husband can be the best person ever and the point stills stands.

Undertales genocide ending is a masterpiece. After beating sans, all the grinding for monsters, levelling up, fighting, and the end. The end is simply a black screen, with howling wind as the only audio. In a way, the ending is anticlimactic, but it really makes you think over your actions, and how they ultimately amount to nothing. Something I don't see others talk about much is that when the screen goes pitch black, you're forced to look at your own reflection. It's almost as if the game is forcing you to acknowledge the things you've done. I just think it's genius.

The pictures I took as proof to later rant about-

The rabbit is somehow sitting on a vertical wall?
Hedgehog in bottom left only has 1 ear
Hedgehog is literally merging with the letter A
This was the least obvious one btw
I just saw a bunch of AI art being sold AT A FARMERS MARKET.
Guys, this is genuinely getting out of hand. I asked the woman whether she made the BLATANTLY AI art (i didn't mention that it was ai), and she said that she did. I don't even know if she understands how stupid it is. It was being sold for like £20 or more too. And people who aren't as aware to this issue will just buy it. Can we PLEASE not fund this literal art theft and fraud.
Kinda ruined my day.

So I've been watching Your Lie in April, and I have thoughts. Going into it I knew it was supposed to be a sad anime, but I was mildly suspicious that it would just be a basic boy loves girl, girl dies anime, but it's so much more complex than that. I really love how as Kaori gets sicker, kousei has to grapple with his past, and seeing how conflicted he is as his friend grows more and more like his mother (from his perspective anyway), and as a result, having to face his own issues with his mother. I think so far, I would rate it an 8/10. The music is great too.

I don't think people understand (or appreciate) the symbolism in death note. It is genuinely amazing how well the author manages to subtly foreshadow events happening in the future, or just basic visual metaphors that work in the subconscious. One of my favourites to talk about is in the first episode, after light sees the notebook for the first time. The notebook had fallen in a shadow, and when light picked it up, he initially thought it was a sick joke and put it back, but after walking out of the shadow, briefly into the light, he changes his mind, just in case. This quite obviously symbolises the notebook as evil, but also, as light comes back into the light, as he is exposed to how the world truly is, (how rotten it is, etc) he decides to give the notebook a try after all.

Just little things like this make the series (manga and anime) stand out.

Guys do you ever think that maybe us humans are like little bacterial cells to some other greater being and the reason we never see them is because we r so small in comparison and our lifetime is absurdly short so like what are the chances that the greater life form would be approaching and meeting us and observing us. What if the moon is actually just one of these people looking at their own little synthetic ecosystem that they made and they're observing us destroy ourselves. Or what if we are like some other beings homework. Like raising brine shrimp or something but instead it's humans and soon we will be thrown away or something. Or what if we are a computer programme. Maybe we aren't actually conscious and we have the illusion of consciousness. Or maybe we are just clouds of consciousness floating in space, or like what even is the difference.

Does anybody else sit down to study and you're fully committed. You have snacks, a timer, resources and music.. but after like 30 minutes you literally cannot go on. There's too much to think about, do or explore. Sometimes I'll be fine studying for a couple of hours but often I just get so tired so quickly and I have no idea how to deal with this 🙃
And to be honest, my grades right now are great, but I'm worried that when I go to college I won't be as used to the workload and just like die or smth from being crushed by too much work.

What would mettaton do

Does anyone else sporadically get freaked out by the idea that you might be the only conscious thing in existence and the world is entirely imagined by you. I heard that this was potentially more likely than us all existing. But if its only me, how can I trust those statement, and then it goes in a loop and I get confused. :(

How do I resist the urge to immediately recount, in immense detail, Undertale lore to random people who ask me what I've been doing.

We KEEP ON SAYING THIS but still an absurdly high number of people dislike Near purely for just being L's successor like that's the point of Watari's orphanage?? To raise L's successor. As the other post said, Near is solving the case for L, not as L. That's another reason they seem similar, both L and Near's parts in the Kira case are mainly out of personal reasons rather than professional ones. L found the mental battle fun, and as he LITERALLY said himself, he is ALSO childish (in response to kira's challenge). Also as I rant about SO MUCH, people would like Near more if they just read the manga. The second half is done abysmally in the anime, with like less than half of the content in the manga.
‘near is a cheap copy of L 😡’ yes and he knows it. He knows it in his fucking bones. That’s the worst part, right? He was trained to be another person. And he’s not. There is no way for him to ever fill that role because L, more than being a job, is a human. Who can never be replicated. Who died at 25 years old and left no instructions on what to do after. Near had no interest in Kira really beyond that L must solve the Kira case; he doesnt even really seem to like solving detective cases in general. When all is said and done, Near is a cheap copy of L. Because the tragedy of death note is that no character can ever exist alone, but they all will be when it’s over.
