So finally done with the penultimate episode of Loki- Season 1!
And seing alot of hate towards my girl, Sylvie. To all those haters, I say go to HEL. Unsurprisingly, fandoms have always sympathised more with cis-male protagonists even when they have shown real villainous intentions.
Like do I actually need to repeat what our OG MCU Loki has done? Come on even a line delivered by No Who Remains/Kang clears this out in the very episode today.
On the other hand, someone like Sylvie who has faced such unimaginable torment by TVA for eons just because she simply exists, isn't even supposed to express rage towards the perpetrator! I will say, she is allowed everything and even to become as irrational in the process as she wants.
Because that's Sylvie's 'Glorious Purpose', let her have it. No matter how it has turned out to be a valiant effort, this is her trajectory to navigate.
Additionally, even if the fact remains that I wanted to put bleach my eyes immediately after witnessing the Sylvie-Loki kiss. I also strongly suspect people who are most upset with this so-called 'self-cest' isn't giving Sylive an iota of respect that Loki portrayed as a traditional cis-mxn gets.
And no, it isn't because Loki is a character we have been acquainted with for a long-time. People are already crazy about Mobius and are hellbent too on shipping him and Loki together (don't even get me started on the fandom and especially cis and straight womxn fetishising gay relationships).
No other cis-womxn character or otherwise have been afforded the same response. No, not even Black Widow in MCU (who had been despondently sexualised in the initial films) has been afforded such a recognition.
I mean..
Marvel already has hoodwinked us with tokenism in the name of Queer representation, and has force-feed us another heteronormative trope of 'a boy and a girl can never be just friend (siblings/twins?)' even if they are different versions of each other.
I really don't need extra misogyny now from the fandom itself to top this off too.
*Releases a tired sigh*

There has been only one time in the entire history when Asgard witnessed lightning like this and out of all the Lokis out there Classic Loki was the only one to see it. In the end, Loki did finally meet his brother - he found him inside himself. The God of Thunder reigned over Asgard once more.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Classic Loki is not merely projecting Asgard, his home, he is summoning Thor’s thunder and lightning, the representation of the brother he misses, which brings light to the darkness, hitting Alioth. The ligtning isn’t Alioth’s work as it didn’t appear when it destroyed the ship and gave out only the purple flashes. It serves as a protective force, signifying what Thor meant for Loki.

Toxic Fanfictions and Their Popularity
Listen, folx. This is something I surmise that needs to be explicitly said out aloud and discussed/questioned vigorously:
I am talking about Het fanfics where smut invariably & always equals to rape and that to the start of an abusive relationship. For example, take all the top Loki/OFC fics on archiveofourown.com where the latter is always depicted to be someone either younger or of a so-called lesser status.
So are we celebrating rape of minors and the marginalised now, y'all?
Also, what's this rubbish of making the OFC just about 18 years old? Do you really think putting them as that of a barely legal age won't make you accountable? Like do people magically just stop being vulnerable & turn worldly-wise the moment they turn 18?
What of the phenomena known as Power Dynamics? Heard of it?
And in a similar vein, there is also this insane obsession with the OFC being a school/college student/junior employee and the lead mxn being of course a teacher/a principal/ the CEO.
I have witnessed enough of those on the Loki fanfics as well as on Sherlock (being shipped with Molly Hooper, of course). And oh, don't even get me started about the Harry Potter ones.
Pedophilia and Rape Fantasy, really? WTF is even wrong with these writers and their supporters?
Also, NO. It's not erotic to produce Alpha and Omega fics when the underlining theme is pure sexual assault.
Now, I too see most of these fics getting tagged with 'Don't like it. Don't read it.'
No, people. Just no.
You can't just escape your transgressions like that. It will be exactly like ignoring incidences of pedophilia, rape and domestic abuse.
People write fanfics to celebrate their beloved characters and narratives breathing in a life of their own to keep such stories alive for generations to come.
It's certainly not a way to tarnish the sheer delight of being in a community where one openly exchange their fascination without being judged.
It further saddens me that the two characters I aforementioned; Loki and Sherlock, both of whom I personally find fascinating in the glory of all their raw & flawed humanity (Asgardianness?), and how they are now getting brutally robbed our of their shades of grey by these so-called fanfics.
And especially in the case of Loki, I have seen him being depicted as a rapist over and over again and unfortunately, this trope also seems to be extremely in-demand.
And that makes me feel absolutely nauseous, not because I am against experimentation with a character as being dark & villainous. But because the fanfics I am talking about has absolutely no morale at the end, no other shades, well maybe other than their efforts to normalise rape and abusive relationships.
What is even more concerning is that they are all written by individuals who identify as womxn!
I cannot even imagine what happened in their lives to make their mind so convoluted to make them think that rape as a fantasy is acceptable.
I just fervently hope that if you are one of them, and believe me I am not mocking you here, I do actually hope that you find the strength to heal.
Because this is not NORMAL, and as someone who have struggled with deteriorating mental health issues all their life I know for a fact know that healing only begins after facing the ugly truth.
But I will not still or ever endorse such a toxic behaviour and certainly will not stop raising my voice against the major tainting of the fandoms I so dearly love.
I already know enough people in my life who are now survivours of pedophilia, rape and abusive relationships & I don't want no part of such acts of utter sacrilege imprinting itself & being eventually normalised enough to pass as fanfics.

Okay, hi! As a fellow lover of everything pop culture and fandoms, I am quite concerned with something I am finding immeasurably toxic.
Can we talk about the fetishisation of Gay mxn and Gay relationships, especially by womxn fans who in particular identify as straight & cis?
I can understand that our society need mainstreaming of representations of every gender identity and sexual orientation possible. But time and again, I don't get why fandoms concentrates on so-called & canonically straight mxn and utter the words 'gaybait'.
In the same vein, the people who obsess over such fantasies often beat up womxn in the story as the ultimate villain too.
How are you inclusive then? How are you not similarly toxic and patriarchal? Case in point, how the slash community worships Johnlock and entirely discredits Mary as well as Molly.
I am seeing the complaints about gaybaiting often and how major productions are too cowardly to have queer leads.
Definitely concur with the latter but not at all with the first.
Why do fans think it is alright that the first reaction between two mxn should immediately be something steamy and not a wholesome blossoming of a solid friendship as a foundation!
Isn't it something that the society also pushes heterosexuality to be?
"A mxn and a womxn can never be friends."
Similarly, this trend in the fandom of " a mxn and a mxn can be never friends" is humiliating. Can you see to what I am trying to get at?
The toxic expectations and repeatitions seems to be forming a vicious cycle.
Also, where are the fans who promote bisexuality and pan sexuality. Ace and aro relationships?
Where are the proponents of lesbian relationships? Why are there no concentration on mainstreaming womxn?
See how patriarchal we still are? The focus is still on mxn and suddenly gay mxn becoming fetishes for heterosexual cis-womxn who see such relationships and mxn in it existing only for their own weird gratification.
We need to celebrate every identity and relationship, and this cannot be done if we keep on fetishising them and then oh so hypocritically declare ourselves to be an ally.

On the nature of Loki & Mobius' relationship...
I keep seeing a myriad posts where people either make it into a father-son relationship, or an elder-younger sibling relationship, or friends, or even a romantic ship. (I do understand that most of these are in good fun and I like them. 😁👍)
I don't think it's either of those, but there are certain moments where one can see them both temporarily morphing into the above mentioned dynamics.
IMO, their relationship isn't something so simple. It can't be fully pinned. At least, not yet. It's still in its nascent stages, shifting form based on how they both respond to each other and their circumstances.
Loki is in a truly tight situation, where he is still a hostage of the TVA. He knows that his life depends on his compliance to TVA's demands. He also knows that the moment he fulfills all these demands, the TVA is going to disintegrate him, because he's a variant. So he's playing along, going undercover as a nonthreatening temp agent who is willing to work for the TVA.
Mobius is the representative of the TVA who is given the charge of Loki. He is essentially Loki's handler. It's his job to make Loki comply in order to find the rogue variant messing with the TVA. Along with that, he has to keep Loki in line too. It's shown that Mobius is very dedicated to his job. It's the most important thing to him. So we've seen that he is willing to take some drastic, even risky measures to do it. These measures include him stopping the pruning of Loki, him (in his perspective) deradicalising Loki in order to use him to find the other variant, him going to 79AD Pompeii with Loki in order to test his theory, etc.
Mobius doesn't trust Loki... but he trusts him enough to go to Pompeii with him alone, without an official sanction for this little trip. He understands that Loki wants to escape the TVA, or even influence the Time Keepers to get them to change his destiny. He also seems to understand Loki's inherent vulnerabilities, though not completely.
Mobius' feelings regarding Loki are also changing as the series progresses. In the first episode he clearly tells Loki that his role in the Sacred Timeline is to lose and cause pain and destruction all the time. But when we see him talking to Renslayer privately, he tries to convince her that Loki wants this pattern to change, that he wants to mix it up, that perhaps he doesn't wish to be put in that box of a villain. He asks her if that can happen. That's most important clue to Mobius' progressive change of heart regarding Loki. He is trying, within the limitations of his job, to save Loki from the ultimate pruning. Even though he mentions it in passing that he'd delete Loki himself if he creates more problems for the TVA, we can see that he's basically saying that to appease Renslayer.
Similarly, Loki doesn't trust Mobius, but he trusts him enough to fall asleep in his presence. He very deliberately annoys the hell out of him, tests his patience, ruins his salad, etc. Peak irritant mode.
Tumblr media
He knows that Mobius isn't going to actively be hostile towards him, because he needs him. Loki genuinely likes it when Mobius is impressed with his knowledge and intelligence; it's that sweet sweet taste of approval that he never really received from either his family or his people. It's especially enjoyable to work with someone when they appreciate your skills and brains. Loki knows that Mobius is loyal to the TVA, but he also sees him sticking his neck out for him, so he recognizes that little soft spot Mobius has for him.
So, it's a tenuous relationship, where both of them may recognize each other as possible allies, but ultimately are stranded on opposing sides. They're trying meet each other midway, but it's a herculean task to do so.
Theirs is not really a friendship, nor is it a parent-child dynamic. There's no romance there, but plenty of bickering, taunting and teasing. There's an element of conspiratorial joy between them, but it never reaches that of a fraternal relationship. Mobius is hung up on doing his job, and Loki desperately needs a way out.
However, what this relationship certainly is is interesting. It's not static or boring; it keeps us on our toes, leaving us wondering what they'll both do next. As the series progresses, I do think that they'll see-saw their way to a more friendly relationship, and I think it's going to be a narratively fun ride.
