And I tried to save a life,
With these diamond hands of mine,
But they're sharper than a knife,
I am aimed to kill.

the paradox of intelligence
I know a lot of things. Facts, statistics, in-depth knowledge about pretty much anything. I used to say these things in conversation.
"Well, oranges are actually only 86% water."
I got labeled as a "know-it-all" or "show-off" by all the jealous girls who wanted good grades and intelligence without all the work and passion that went into it.
So I became quiet, normal, like them. Talking about boys I had no interest in, or smiling and complementing a girl's outfit when it was her meaningful knowledge of classic literature that really shined.
I'm done with that, though. I can't do it anymore. This is the thing about being a "nerd." You study to bring you joy just like how others read, do makeup, or play sports. You are just like them. But they don't see you that way, because society looks at intelligence a certain way.
I will say what I feel aloud. I don't care about boys or pop culture. I want to talk about the planets of TRAPPIST-1 and the beautiful jellyfish of phylum Cnidaria. Heck, I want to talk about the Fermi paradox and Schrodinger's cat and the meaning of life.
And I will find others who want to as well. I'm done letting people shut down my personality. You think I'm a know-it-all? Fine, at least I know more than you.
This is my formal request for all my annoying "friends" who said these things to, respectfully, go to hell.

how to maintain a friendship with a bpd person
(advice from someone with bpd)
Hey there!! I see a lot of hate toward people with bpd and their notorious inability to maintain friendships. however, i'm doing pretty well socially, and here's some things my friends do to make sure i don't overwhelm them ->
people with bpd are very very expressive. if they're too much for you, let them know, but one thing to never do is discourage them from showing their excitement for something!!
set boundaries. i'm not scared to say this, but people with my disorder can hurt people around them often. communicate, and make sure your friend knows your boundaries
whenever your friend is having a hard time, distance yourself without cutting them off completely. you can be supportive and reassuring without always seeing them
validate their feelings!! let them know that they don't have to feel guilty about feeling the way that they do <3
please please please pay attention to sh or suicidal behavior!! 10% of people with bpd end up committing suicide, so take these things very seriously!!
thank you for reading, and i'll see you again soon <3

how to fall in love with studying
Before high school, I was a terrible student. Now I have perfect grades and many of my friends see me as the "smart girl" in our friend group. Here's how I made the change ->
find one subject you really like. maybe it's english, maybe it's science, maybe it's math. for me it was biology. put your everything into that subject. don't do it for the grade, but because you like it and want to learn more.
this trick helped me fall in love with studying, and made it easier to get better at other subjects by increasing my standard of what i think is "good work"
if you have to skip one study day, it's okay, but never skip two in a row. it leads to a slippery slope.
this one is important: the pomodoro technique doesn't work for all people!! if you find it hard to focus after a break, you might be like me. i need to get really invested in what i'm doing and can't break my focus
you don't have to listen to classical music, listen to the music you like while studying. alt or pop rock makes me feel like i'm studying for a big competition or something important, so it makes me work harder!
flashcards are everything. i have flashcards for almost all my classes. they're a really great way to memorize things! the app "anki" uses spaced repitition, which is scientifically proven to help you remember things!
drink water!! this tip is so underrated. i find that i focus better when i'm hydrated. also, whenever i'm stressed about a test, drinking water through a straw helps me calm down while studying
if you have more tips that helped you that i didn't mention, comment them below! happy studying <3
