Even though this may look like a violent scene it is not so. Soo Bahk Do’s mission is world peace through educating the individual on values and improving human relationships. At Soo Bahk Do Karate we practice peaceful confidence. We endeavor not to conquer the outside world but to master ourselves. On December 13th I will go through my black belt challenge. An extreme, arduous strength and endurance workout that is designed to push you past the point of physical exhaustion so that you have to dig deep to overcome the little voice inside that says “I can’t” and find the will to go on. Almost all of us shy away from living our dreams in one area or another because we don’t feel we deserve to become our grandest vision. We are afraid of what will happen when we actually allow ourselves to feel and act in alignment with our most meaningful heart’s desire. But truly we are meant to live life to the fullest. Your dreams are your dreams for a reason. Just because it is hard does not mean it isn’t meant for you. Be brave. When you face your fears, be present and observe how they dissolve into what they are: beliefs and intense feelings about these habitual thoughts. It fills me with such joy to see the red in my writing! It’s been so long since I’ve had the pleasure of being corrected like that! If you’re going to Japan to study I recommend looking at schools before you start your trip as many of them have specific entry dates to their classes. I went without having a plan but ended up finding a wonderful immersion school called Shibuya Gaigo Gakuin. Immersion in language refers to only speaking the target language in class as well as studying for several hours each day. Our class consisted primarily of Mexicans, Italiens and Americans. We weren’t taking ourselves too seriously. We had a blast every day, laughing out loud and speaking as much Spanish and English as Japanese. To which our teachers would patiently reply 日本語でお願いします。”In Japanese, please.” I give my students the option of learning two of the three Japanese alphabets with me or to focus on speaking. Hiragana and Katakana, each having only 46 basic letters, are easy to learn. Asakusa Sensoji Temple This Buddhist temple was completed in the year 645 making it Tokyo’s oldest temple. You enter through the outer gate Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate), the symbol of Asakusa and the entire city of Tokyo. A shopping street where you can buy souvenirs leads from the outer gate to the temple’s second gate, the Hozomon, before you reach the temple itself. Many festivals take place at Sensoji Temple throughout the year. The last photo depicts one of the dragon kings who protects Buddhist law. Boat trip with views of the Skytree, beautifully illuminated bridges and new friends! 😃 I absolutely love the meetup site - whether I’m traveling alone or am looking for likeminded people where I live - it’s a great tool to find group activities. In Tokyo it was especially useful because I wanted to spend time with locals. At meetup activities you find lots of Japanese people keen on practicing English as well as foreigners wanting to practice Japanese. So it’s great for a language exchange and for getting in touch with hospitable people who know their way around town.
