As an undocumented student or ally, you need to be aware of two types of legislation to understand your educational rights according to your state: Tuition Equity and State Financial Aid

Tuition Equity means that undocumented students are allowed in-state tuition rates in your home state. Usually you must meet specific qualifications, often including stating that you must have completed high school in and reside in that particular state for a number of years.

State Financial Aid is just what it sounds like – financial aid provided by your state. While undocumented students cannot receive federal financial aid, some states provide state-level financial aid to you.

Thanks to organizations like United We Dream and University Leadership Initiative, new legislation passed in quite a few states in 2015!
