Every year i forget all the wonders of being a camp counselor until it's summer again and i discover new levels of absolute exhaustion, twenty things that can actually be fixed with either duct tape or wd40 and a whole new level of rage when things don't get done.

So I got into a second national competition this week and they're both in the same week in June and i'm so excited

It's been a long time since i've felt like this. I'm terrified, shocked, worried, and incredibly, incredibly sad.

Last night i picked up my godmother, a college professor. She waited for three hours until they let her go home. Scared, not knowing who made it out alive, tired.

This morning i woke up early to go light up a candle by the university. It was all silent, even though it's right downtown. There were people crying.

Tomorrow there will be national mourning, just a day before christmas. We're still so shocked, so scared.

One thing I love about Judaism is that long involved conversations about things like “can a zombie attend shul?” or “can i use my pet dragon to light candles on shabbat?” or “is meat from a replicator kosher?” are seen as completely normal.

Working on translation makes my brain twist in the most fucked up ways because yes, i know twelve words for boat and a million synonyms for "said", but good lord i won't remember what's that shining yellow ball in the sky called in any language i speak.

hey i know my standards are sky high but listen i come from a scout/tramp family, so the first standards i've learned were of the highest and closest friendships

like my uncle and his friends were in a folk band (those are a big deal in my country) and when their guitarist died in a car crash, they held their own "band funeral". i've seen them burn one of their music books (that's like their bible may i say) in bonfire in his honor and that is something i'll never forget.

like i turned up on my scout mate's porch one evening because i missed my train home and he didn't even say a thing and let me sleep over at his place.

like we drove our counselor home at 4am when she found out her father died mid-camp so that she wasn't alone with her thoughts for a minute.

so like - tramps, man. tramps and scouts. love them. will protect them with my life.
