🔥 “Ashes and Arrows” — Azula x Gender-Neutral Reader (Warnings mention of blood and violence)

The battlefield still smoldered, the scent of scorched earth and ozone hanging heavy in the air. Azula stood at the center of it all, her breath sharp and shallow, one hand pressed against her side where a rogue earthbender’s strike had landed. She refused to fall. Not in front of them.

Not in front of you.

You were already moving, silent as shadow, your bow slung across your back and your eyes locked on her. The rest of the elite team—Ty Lee, Mai, and a pair of firebenders from the royal guard—were regrouping, but you broke formation. You always did when it came to her.

“Azula,” you said, voice low, steady. “You’re bleeding.”

She turned her head, eyes narrowing. “I’m fine.”

You knelt beside her anyway, fingers brushing hers away to inspect the wound. It wasn’t deep, but it was angry—red and raw, pulsing with heat. She winced, barely, and you caught it. She hated that.

“You’re not invincible,” you murmured, pulling a cloth from your satchel. “Even lightning breaks when it hits the wrong surface.”

Azula didn’t answer. Her gaze flicked to your hands, deft and practiced, binding the wound with quiet precision. You’d always been like this—calm, unshaken, even when the world burned around you. It was why she’d chosen you for her elite team. Why she’d pulled you from the ranks of the Yuyan Archers.

You’d left your squad mates. The ones you trained with for years to accompany her on her mission.

“You shouldn’t have come so close,” she said, her voice softer now. “That earthbender could’ve crushed you.”

You looked up, meeting her eyes. “I wasn’t going to let you fall.”

A silence stretched between you, thick with memory. The nights training under moonlight. The whispered plans in the palace gardens. The moment she’d asked you to join her—not as a soldier, but as something more. Something unspoken.

“I remember when you first shot for me,” she said suddenly. “That arrow split the air like it was born to kill.”

You smiled faintly. “And you said I was wasted in the trees.”

Azula’s lips twitched, almost a smile. Almost.

“I still think that,” she said. “You belong beside me.”

You finished tying the bandage and sat back on your heels. “Then stop trying to push me away every time you bleed.”

Her eyes flared, not with anger, but something else—something raw. She reached out, fingers brushing yours, just for a moment.

“I don’t know how to be weak,” she whispered.

You leaned in, forehead touching hers. “Then let me be strong for you.”

So, how about Azula getting wounded in battle and reader, who is a lowly conscript soldier, being the only one who notices, carrying her to safety and treating her wound?

I think that could be pretty nice. If you want to write the slightly evil kind of reader you often do, you could make the reader get revenge for Azula before he saves her. Reader is male or gender neutral, of course.

Y/n: he made his choice,

Zuko: I know that

Y/n: good don’t worry everything will be fine trust me,

Zuko: I don’t feel like finishing the game right now

Y/n: very well I was gonna win anyway

Later in the day y/n meets Azula in the hallway

Y/n: you were right Zuko is hiding something

Azula: of course I’m right what did he tell you

Y/n: not much he’s went on about not feeling like he belongs and I think he feels guilty about your uncle as well

Azula: it doesn’t matter I’ve already know how to handle him. I’ll take care of it.

Y/n: of course, but still, he might do something rash

Azula: trust me, love what I’ve got planned for him will keep him in line and if not, we can sit back and enjoy the show

She is not a morning person if you are try not to disturb her or wake her up or she will be grumpy

She Is more cuddly than some would think however she has to be the big spoon she doesn’t like to be smothered so she will lie on top of you or a wrap her arms around you lay her head on your shoulder or spoon from behind that’s what she would prefer, but she will sometimes allow you to do the same

 She breathes through her mouth while she sleeps so her mouth will be open sometime she’s embarrassed by this so do not say anything or make fun of her for it

She wears her hair down to bed it’s very long but soft because she comes it constantly

 sleeps In the equivalent of a tank top because she likes the feeling of the bed and the sheets and you on her skin

Loves back rubs she will fall asleep fast if you rub her back And will give if you ask 

Loves kisses before bed but her way of kissing is more than a peck on the lips more like an make out kiss that’s just how she kisses those she loves because she’s passionate about them even if she doesn’t say it out loud

If she lives in modern day she would be the tight to listen to white noise or sleep with the TV on

 she likes to be cold so she can warm up if the room is too warm she can’t sleep so she’ll probably have a window open or in modern have a fan or two going

Primarily sleeps on her back or side and it always within arms length of you, but she doesn’t take up the whole bed

When two prodigies fall in love

You are the second born of a very powerful noble family in the Fire Nation. Although you were always smarter and better at firebending than your older brother, your parents always preferred your brother. That made you run away to the Fire Lord's castle at just 13 years old.

Well, maybe your parents were right. You had a spark of cunning and ambition from birth. And that spark burst into a devastating fire the moment you arrived in the capital.

Your talent, ambition and intelligence have caught the attention of the fire lord. One day, he invited you to train with him. You held your head high and fought him with dignity, and that impressed him.

Fire Lord Ozai made a plan, and soon, he put it into action. He exiled Zuko and arranged a marriage between you and Azula.

You tasted power like a shark tastes blood. You played your cards like a master. You were always the son Ozai wanted.

You gave Azula the attention and affection she had always wanted. You noticed the irregularities in the princess's behavior and the fact that she had become dependent on you in a very short time.

You consulted a very good psychiatrist and found out that Azula was suffering from a mental illness. You got the medicine the princess needed. And then you killed the psychiatrist. Not a single person was to know that the princess was insane.

knowing that Ozai had spies everywhere, you decided to act like a good future son-in-law, worried about his future wife and the fate of the nation.

That very evening, you requested a private meeting with the Fire Lord.

You went to his quarters and he was curiously waiting for you. You bowed to him and he told you to sit down and have some tea with him. You sat in front of him and took a sip of tea catching him with a worried and tired look.

He frowned at you. He asked you what happened.

You sighed and told him about what you discovered. You put your head in your hands and told him that you were devastated to find out that your future wife and princess was suffering from something like this.

He put his teacup down, frozen for a few seconds. Then he got up and started having a nervous breakdown. He threw flames all around him, cursing Ursa and accusing her of giving him two useless children.

You did your best to calm him down, ending up with a few burns. After he calmed down, he told you that you are his only hope, the only one who will be able to continue his mission. Ozai also told you that you must do everything in your power to control the princess. You swore on your honor to keep everything under control.

You left and went to the infirmary to have your wounds tended to. Then you went to Azula's room. As soon as you entered her room, Azula practically pounced on you with questions about where you were and how you got hurt. You told her that Ozai had a nervous breakdown and that you were his unfortunate victim.

You saw the princess's expression distort and all the respect and love she felt for her father burn away, leaving behind a burning hatred. You stop her before she tries to kill her father.

That night, as she slept in your arms, she vowed to destroy her father.

You played a double game, making Ozai think Azula was a wild fire to be contained, and making Azula think Ozai was planning to get rid of the two of you.

besides, you sent letters to Iroh, using the friendship between your brother and his deceased son to get under his skin. You managed to make Zuko and Iroh blindly trust you.

When Zuko came back and Azula told you about her killing the avatar you almost laughed. instead, you kept a calm face and congratulated her on her victory in Ba Sing Se. Then you went on a date with her, making sure the chef prepared all her favorite dishes. At the romantic date you explained that the Avatar is more than likely alive. She looked worried so you reassured her that everything would be fine. You advised her to tell her father that Zuko killed the avatar.

In the evening, you visited Iroh in his prison. You drank tea and promised to take care of Zuko and Azula.

The next day, you trained with Zuko with the Dao swords. After training, you ate fire flakes and played Pai Sho. Before the Eclipse you advised Zuko to join the Avatar.

Ozai was furious after Zuko's betrayal. You acted like you were shocked at what happened and expressed your gratitude to Agni that the Fire Lord was fine.

This way you ensured that whether the Fire Nation won the war or not, you would be on the winning side.

During Sozin's comet, you were forced by Ozai to stay hidden in your family home.

You returned to the palace as soon as you heard of Ozai's defeat. Zuko welcomed you with open arms and even named you Admiral. You thanked him and asked for Azula to be released into your custody.

He looked worried and asked you to reconsider your idea. You flatly refused and manipulated Zuko into bringing Azula back to the palace.

Once back at the palace, Azula acted like a lost dragoon and didn't dare spend even five minutes away from you.

Now you look after Azula and wield your influence from the shadows, waiting for the moment when you can strike and claim the throne.

I think it's pretty cool how she looks a lot like an older Azula, much like how regular Ozai is basically what an older Zuko would look had he not been scarred.

The wait was getting to you. Your parents were telling you were getting into an arranged marriage with a childhood friend Azula. You’ve known both Zuko and Azula for a long time and you guys haven’t seen each other since you were kids. You were a bit nervous meeting Azula after some time. You were in front of her father, Fire Lord Ozai. You barely listened because you were worried what Azula would think of you. Tha anticipation was running through your mind as she came out.

She looks tougher than she use to look. She was pretty like you always thought. You saw her not surprised or happy to see you it was just a stern but normal facial expression. Deep down you were a bit disappointed because you had high expectation of how she’ll react seeing you. As Ozai proclaimed the marriage Azula came down to you and grabbed your hand. “Seems like you’re going to be my partner [Name]” she grinned as Ozai dismissed you two. You both went to the room to catch up with one another.

“Honestly this could be worse I’m kind of glad it was you and not some random peasant.” Azula grins and chuckles. You chuckle too. “It’s good to see you again Azula.” You smile as she smiled back. “Same here. It has been a while. I suppose we’re going to rule the whole fire nation together. You by my side while I become Firelord.” You saw her blue flames shooting from her hand. You laugh at her a bit as she gave you a bit of a glare. “What’s so funny?” She asks in an offended tone. You then kiss her cheek as her cheek flushed a bit. “That would be nice I can’t wait to be your partner.” You smiled as she grins. “Good because you belong to me now forever.”
