OKAY I JUST READ THE LAST TWO MIZISUA COMICS THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING OH MY GOODNESS.

Tell me all about your opinions on Mizi/Sua and the complexities and depths of their bond and relationship 👀

mizisua is a VERY layered ship, like they all are in alien stage. of course, i love them, they're my shaylas. absolutely insane about them.

so, their first meeting is already as is INCREDIBLY meaningful and powerful. neither of them received the love and care of a true family... but when put against one another, mizi is clearly the one that came closest to that. therefore, she was a much more cheerful child than sua. when she was dropped off at anakt garden, she was waving goodbye to her alien family. they even left her toys in her container, showing she was treated a lot better than most humans in alnst (this doesnt mean she didn't suffer at all and that it excuses putting her through such a cruel program but, again, her suffering was likely a lot less consistent). in contrast, sua is distant, almost like in a state of dormancy from, probably, depression and being ignored and purely used as a prize for her alien family. while mizi is waving goodbye to her parents, sua's are already leaving, and she doesn't move from the spot she's been put in.

at night, when they're all alone, mizi is crying herself to sleep. that is when their first interaction begins. mizi is fascinated with her, it likely being the first time she sees another human. sua is also curious, but a lot less enthusiastic than she. we can clearly see mizi's innocent hope and childishness being shown through the pink tentacles that surround her and float around aimlessly, just like a young kid curious to find out as much as possible, aswell as the toys all around in her back. sua has none of this. this concept is especially powerful when they fully turn towards each other to admire one another, to admire their differences. a few of the pink tentacles pass through in sua's space, significant of how mizi, from the very first moment they met and were separated by glass, shared her love and brightness with sua, drawing her in. so, she gets up aswell, and they place their hands against each other, though only visually, as they are still away. ill get back to this scene later because it is a memory mizi has while grieving, and the next part is likely significant of how she is feeling.

another thing is, an acoustic version of my clematis is playing, foreshadowing towards how their relationship will progress going further or perhaps the gentle melody showing the beginning of it already.

when they are already training within the anakt garden program and their bond has grown stronger, we can see sua's eyes have gained their own glisten and she smiles a lot more often from the happiness she feels when she is around mizi. she is the first one to start the song, my clematis, and this is symbolic for a number of reasons. while it is a duet, and it is them singing about each other, it's clear this song is heavily dedicated to mizi from sua. the clematis flower is a climbing plant, showing mizi created the path and helped her crawl out of the pit of darkness and misery she was stuck in, engulfing her aswell in her characteristic light and happiness. it also symbolises love and admiration, which we know sua houses plenty of for mizi. this, of course, doesn't mean mizi doesn't have anything to dedicate to sua through this song. the clematis also symbolises the beauty of ingenuity and the trait of artifice. sua is very intelligent, and of course mizi appreciates that. one last meaning the flower has, especially recognised in korean, is aspiration. which, as we know, is the main trait mizi adopts after sua's death, in hopes of avenging her.

now, let's talk about sua's sacrifice. of course, it was the most important thing she had ever done for mizi. she loved her more than anything, mizi was her universe, while she was her's. she knew they would have to face each other, therefore she knew her death would be inevitable. she'd always considered mizi stronger than her, and knew that if it would've been her instead, she wouldn't be able to live without without her. so, as we find out in karma, she rehearsed her death to be sure she was ready. like everyone else, she hated the thought of dying, but she voluntarily prepared herself for it, all for the one person she loved most. sua recognised that mizi had a much brighter future ahead of herself— she could've been happy on her own, but for sua, she was the only reason she could be happy. while this dependency was unhealthy and ended up being sua's fatal flaw, that doesn't make their relationship any less intense or special. they complete each other like yin and yang.

mizi's claim in karma, "maybe i just wasn't as desperate for her." is her undermining herself and her love for sua. though it was a harsh truth she didn't want to believe, the two of them both knew it would've been for the better that sua was the one to sacrifice herself. mizi's stubbornness to accept it starts an argument before their round, and sua reassures her it's what should be done. that, inevitably, one of them would have to give up, and she wouldn't let her waste her opportunities by being the one to let go. her inability to accept it alone shows just how deeply she loves her. then, she hallucinates luka as her. she keeps going back to the image of her lover's dead body and all their memories together; how they came to be who they were now. and she beats luka up not because she is a violent person, but because she is affected by grief and being pushed over the edge, as he often does with his opponents (victims). he guilts her and makes her remember, manipulating her to disguise himself as sua in her mind— "my saviour, beautiful soul" how sua considered mizi her saviour for showing her the light, how she appreciated and loved every part of her, including her soul. "make me your god, i can give you everything" directly telling mizi to view him as 'her god', as sua. even the title and chorus line, "ruler of my heart" points exactly to where sua's place was in mizi's world: the ruler of her heart. he gets in her personal space to mimic how close the two girls were to each other in every moment, to discomfort her, and it works, which makes her angry because she is in this vulnerable state of mind, still grieving, and he is taking all of it and using it against her.

i think it's so important to recognise the survivor's guilt mizi is feeling after sua's death, but many people agree with her on the fact she didn't 'love her enough' and they don't care to look into the depth of it because, seeing she 'admitted' it, it has to be right. but, mizi is an unreliable narrator. if we look just a bit beyond her words, we can clearly see this is just her distorted view on herself shaped by guilt and grief, and is in no way even close to the truth. another example is, as i mentioned earlier, the memory of when they first met. the glass makes it seem like they are close and really experiencing each other's touch, but then their containers slowly start drifting away, creating the true distance that lies between them. mizi in particular longs for them to be close again. after that moment, the two of them never left each other's side again until sua's death, so them drifting apart is likely a metaphor on how a grieving mizi sees the scene and changes the view of that life-altering moment to fit the situation she is in right now; away from her lover.

so, yes. their bond is one that is so special, and though we didn't get to see much of sua, we learn about her through the memories of mizi, the very person that loved her most in the world.

i saw someone say that till started to love-admire mizi because they were friends and had a good bond together while, in contrast, his bond with ivan had always been somewhat of a rollercoaster, and i 100% agree with that. ivans inability of expressing his feelings in a healthy way and tills obvious rebellious nature aswell as impulsivity resulted in useless and meaningless fights. then, all of a sudden they were all buddy buddy and hanging out like friends do. it was all obviously incredibly confusing for till, seeing as he bases and diminishes his feelings on someone from what their general relationship looks like (like we see him doing with mizi). obviously, he wouldn't know how to classify his and ivans bond, because as i said some days there was affection, some days there wasnt. because of ivans lack of social awareness, there were some obviously uncomfortable elements in their time together aswell, even if they werent being hostile with one another at the given moment.

this in no way goes to say ivan is "the bad one". all of his issues, aswell as tills, result from a lack of understanding of basic human emotions and needs. having grown up as literal pets for a species that is nowhere close to relating to their issues (and even if they were, unwilling to get all touchy and vulnerable with them and solely treating them as nothing more than what they see them as— entertainment), they'd certainly have trouble dealing with it when their complex emotions inevitably surface. they live and grow with no validation of their feelings, no instructions, nothing, therefore, how could we blame either one for how their relationship turned out?

i personally think till did reciprocate ivans love, maybe even as fiercely as him, but while he tried showing it and, as seen in karma, quite literally pushed his love down till's throat, till decided to keep the distance because he couldn't understand it, didn't know how to deal with it. this of course also doesn't mean he was fine with being kissed. he still didnt know what his feelings for ivan looked like (he had no time to even process them as they'd been so complicated for so long, and he obviously avoids being vulnerable, even within himself), he was in an extremely sensitive place, grieving mizi and on top of it all was the natural panic and fret of his fight or flight to stay alive in such a situation, where death is looking you straight in the eye.

perhaps it was hard to realise seeing as the music and his lyrics kept going, but till's exhaustion (a natural grieving response) overcame him and he eventually gives up. he knows he could die. he knows he will die. but he is simply too exhausted to continue.

ivan notices, and goes over to him not because he sees an opportunity to get revenge, but to lower his own score so till can win either way. he sacrifices himself for his sake. he goes over and forcefully kisses him, even as till pulls away, he keeps going, making the audience think he wants to hurt him. he goes as far as putting his hands on his neck to give the impression he's being strangled aswell, and in the end, his sacrifice is worth. he's not doing it because he wants to, he's doing it so till can win because he loves him.

also would like to say, for the other side of the fandom thats like "ivan is a monster! he made till uncomfortable and wanted to hurt him because he was rejected!", NO BUDDY. ivan's hands are shaking as he goes on to grab him, he's even pressing on the sides of his neck, not forwardly blocking his airway, and even if you missed all of that, HE QUITE LITERALLY GOES ON TO STARE AT THE SCORE AS HE DOES IT. he braces himself to be shot and PULLS AWAY FROM THE KISS AS TO NOT HURT TILL ASWELL. he lets go the very moment blood spills from his mouth, at peace with the thought that till survives. and yeah, obviously till is grabbing at his own neck after 😭 while not fatal, the discomfort was still there, and mixed with the previous panic, it was much more intense.

then, gazing down at ivans body, he understands what his intention truly was.

in the next round, till avenges ivan by trying his best to beat luka. we can see this from his physical desperation, both in body language and expression

he is also on his mind CONSTANTLY. he is grieving a love he didn't even realise he had until it was too late. he quite literally hallucinates luka as ivan the whole time, finally understanding how he loved him.
