I just want to say that I wrote over 50k words in the past 4 months, which equals about 381 words every single day, and I'm very proud of that. We all need to pat our own shoulders from time to time!

“So how long have you been here?” he tries again. He hasn’t talked to another slave in years and he’s dying for a bit of conversation to distract him. “Shut up and let us enjoy a moment of peace, would you?” the man snaps and Toby flinches. “Sorry,” he mutters but no one pays him any attention anymore. They’re all staring listlessly out of the window or close their eyes, trying to catch up on some sleep.

But no. Clearly master has decided he’s not worth the hassle and just sold him off for a quick buck to an agency. Toby can see the life ahead of him clearly. All there is now for him is work—eat—sleep, rinse and repeat for the next god knows how many years until his body finally gives up. Noone ever leaves these places. They wear the slaves down for profit and then just buy more cheap ones when the old ones are too weak to work.

Still, his anger has dissipated and an uneasy feeling settles in his stomach. He sighs unhappily. Why does Sam have to make everything so complicated. He’s angry, Charles gets it, he’s angry at his life and everything that happened but he’s being such a brat, Charles can’t stand it. Especially since he’s done nothing but help him. He didn’t have to, either. He could have left him there, or just put him out of his misery, like Morisson suggested.

Toby gets back to work, forcing his sore body to go faster, the fear and self-preservation instinct the only things driving him forward. It’s hard though, with all his old injuries making themselves known with more vigor than usual and the three fingers on his right hand that got broken last year and never healed properly making all that harder to grip the mop

“Stop arguing with me,” he growls. “This is not up for discussion. You will start teaching him tomorrow. One more word and I’ll start taking away privileges, are we clear?”

why is this so accurate

What is the one word you can never write correctly without spellchecker? Mine is exasperated. I usually can't even spell it close enough for Word to recognize it, lol.

I'm glad that doesn't work on ao3. Imagine comparing how many kudos each chapter gets and then stressing about it. Also people would leave fewer comments and that would break my heart

i wish ao3 was like wattpad in the way of being able to leave kudos on multiple chapters instead of the whole story

i always have to remind myself to leave a nice comment because there is no other way for me to let the author know that particular chapter was nice

For sure! “Second kudos!” Is always a great and easy comment to leave

Do you sometimes sit down to write the next chapter of your wip and you have absolutely no idea what to write? Like, you know a general outline or direction of the fic but what's gonna happen in the next chapter is as much of a mystery to you as it is to your readers? And you're staring at the blank page and try to get your mind to produce something, anything, and it just wants to go back to scrolling reddit?

This is one of those days

It's the worst

You know that feeling when you post a new chapter and then refresh your inbox every two minutes for four hours straight, waiting for comments, and when they don't come you absolutely convince yourself everyone hates the update and your writing and you are a disappointment and a sorry excuse of a writer and should give up and then over the next few days you get so many positive and supportive comments you wonder why you ever even worried in the first place and then you write another chapter and do it all over again? Yeah, that's me.

Why do I do this to myself

I wanted to write a short little chapter, around 2k, a bit of a breather after the drama in the last chapter. I was wrapping it up and then my brain went: you know what would make a good ending for this chapter? MORE DRAMA! So now I have another 4k chapter on my hands. I can't stop writing angst, send help.

How not to get stuck when writing

After years of writing I have learned that you do not need to write your chapter from start to finish. Don't know how to start? Just start in the middle. Don't know how to finish this paragraph? Put some *** and continue with the next one. Bored of writing this part? Hit enter a few times and get to the scene you WANT to write.

This is what I do. I leave the boring stuff, the editing, the smoothing out, for the last. I write quickly and messily, not finishing sentences if I don't know how, putting a shitload of *** everywhere. I focus on getting the big ideas down first and only then, with fresh eyes, do I sit down and try to get the mess into a semblance of a good-flowing chapters, I fill in the gaps, look up the right words, fix the million typos.

It definitely helps though and I recommend everyone to try it!!
