🔴⭕🔴 Let's Get Crafty! 🔴⭕🔴⭕🔴 Papier Mache Masks 🔴⭕🔴⭕🔴 You will need... 1/2 cup flour 1/2 Cup Elmer's Glue Balloons(according to size of mask you want) 1 cup of water A large bowl newspaper Vaseline or lotion Yarn, ribbon or string To Decorate... Paint Glitter Feathers Beads Ribbon 🔴🔴🔴⭕⭕⭕ In a large bowl Mix your glue, flour, and water together. Rip the newspaper into long strips. Inflate the balloon to the size you want and set it aside. Start covering half the balloon in even layers. Do not oversaturate the paper strips as you add them to the balloon. Let the first layer dry- then add another layer. Add about 7-8 layers to make sure your mask has structural strong. Leave the balloon to dry for a few hours. Once dry- pop the balloon. Cut out the eyes and mouth holes. Add two small holes at the sides for your string. 🏊🏻‍♀️🏊🏾‍♀️🏊🏻‍♂️ Why Women Coaches Matter 🏊🏽‍♀️🏊🏾‍♂️🏊🏼‍♀️🏊🏿‍♂️🏊🏻‍♂️🏊🏼‍♀️ The most obvious reason is that girls and young women need leadership role models so that they can learn to lead. 🔅🔅🔆🔅🔅 Like many swimmers of my generation, I never had a female swim coach. According to Nicole M. LaVoi, Ph.D., Co-Director of the Tucker Center for Research on Girls & Women in Sport, same sex role models provide emulation, aspiration, self-esteem, and valuation of abilities. Many girls grow up NEVER having had a female coach, whereas 100% of their male peers have had male coaches their entire sports career. 🔅🔅🔆🔅🔅 It doesn't just impact female athletes. Boys that see women as competent leaders are more likely to respect women, see women as equals, and are less likely to objectify women. Start each season by sending critical information to swimmers and parents, especially new ones. Set expectations for how (and when) to reach coaches, what to expect at practices and meets, and the philosophy of your club. Try to foresee questions and answer them before they are asked. Send regular updates (I recommend a weekly email newsletter) to keep parents and swimmers updated throughout the season. Give them info on upcoming meets and events. Cover your practices, what you’re working on, and how your team is progressing. Train your swimmers and parents to look to your newsletter first when they have questions or concerns. This will save you untold time answering the same questions over and over again. ♒♒♒ Fly For All! ♒♒♒♒♒♒ 1-Your body should undulate throughout the stroke in a wave like motion. 2-Lead with your forehead not your chin. 3-Keep Your body as close to the surface of the water as you can. Sinking down into the water creates drag. 4-Fingertips not thumbs down when hands enter water. 5-Arms should be shoulder width apart on entry. Having arms at shoulder width is your most optimal power position in both Free and Fly. 6- Pull should be through the center of your body. 7- When breathing chin should skim the top of the water. 8- Hips and heels should be at the water line not under the water. 9- Dolphin Kick begins at the hips not the knees. 10- Keep your legs close together. Do not bow legs when taking a breath. ❄❄❄ Keeping Swimmers Healthy In The Chilly Winter Months ❄❄❄❄❄❄ Sleep and Nutrition- Although important at any time of year, Nutrition and Sleep become critical for staying healthy when busy schedules and cold weather put extra strain on your body. Teen swimmers need 8+ hours of sleep and preteens need at least 9. ❄❄❄❄❄❄ Dress Appropriately- Swimmers should wear weather-appropriate coats, pants, socks and shoes to and from practice. They should take extra care to cover up with dry clothes and consider wearing a stocking cap when leaving practice and going out into the cold. ❄❄❄❄❄❄ Hydrate and Moisturize- Cold weather (like swimming) is tough on hair and skin, and exertion in the pool makes you sweat, even if you don’t feel hot. Drink plenty of water in cold weather just like when it’s hot outside, and preserve healthy hair and skin with conditioners and moisturizers. ❄❄❄❄❄❄ Add some cold-weather gear to your swim bag-Keep an extra jacket and hat in your swim bag in case you forget. A dry pair of socks is a good idea too, and don’t forget your Chapstick! 🍧🍧🍧 Winter Pudding 🍧🍧🍧🍧🍧🍧 gredients 1 cup water 1/2 cup uncooked long grain rice A dash of salt 4 cups milk 2/3 cup sugar, divided 2 eggs 2 tablespoons butter 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 🍧🍧🍧🍧🍧🍧 Cherry Sauce 1 1/2 cups canned cherries- half the syrup 1/2 cup water 3 tbsp sugar whole fresh lime juice-to taste 1 tbsp butter 1/2 tsp vanilla 🍧🍧🍧🍧🍧🍧🍧 In small saucepan cook cherries and the syrup. Stir in sugar, butter and lemon juice. Bring to boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 3 minutes. Stir in cornstarch mixture stirring constantly until sauce thickens. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. In a heavy saucepan, combine the water, rice and salt; bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 15 minutes or until water is absorbed. Add milk and ⅓ cup sugar; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 30-40 minutes or until slightly thickened. Whisk together eggs and remaining sugar. Gradually stir 2 cups hot rice mixture into the egg mixture; return all to pan, stirring constantly. Cook and stir over low heat for 3-5 minutes until mixture reaches 160°. Remove from the heat; stir in butter and vanilla. Pour into serving bowls. Refrigerate for 2 hours or until chilled.
