My favourite generation of The vanderboom family in crk form🙏 I made all three siblings a type of root flavoured cookie(for obvious reasons) and ida cozonaci as it a traditional Romanian desert(her hat reminded me of the swirl patterns in it)

It's getting harder each day to have resources to make "amazing artwork" after several nights of russian missile attacks. It's stress and lack of sleep and anxiety and grief.
I just want my non Ukrainian mutuals to share this. Spreading awareness helps. Please don't let us be silent

ida's foresight — headcanons
the samuel x ida ask i did inspired me to write this. it got me thinking about how ida's foresight impacted the vanderboom family.
edit: this post got me to finally publish this. thanks anon!
already stated this in the ship ask, but samuel sometimes called ida "my rose" as a pet name because of her red hair. she'd always give him a knowing look when he did this.
ida had always been kind to albert. she displayed a sort of neutrality at his more dangerous and chaotic moments, as if she was completely unbothered by—and even accepted—this about him. interestingly, she had a particular fascination with his masks as well. the first time she saw his white one, she picked it up very gently, brought it level with her face, and said "this mask will see great things".
at one point, emma did a portrait of every member of the family by painting a flower she thought was most fitting for them. for instance, she did white asters for frank because of their association with stars, and a rose for mary—it was the flower emma's father had given her, the flower she grew in the garden by the bush, and her favorite flower overall. ida saw these portraits before they were done (as emma had asked her for feedback), and she gave some interesting suggestions. for frank, she suggested the 'stargazer lily', a flower which emma could not find in any floriculture books she owned. for albert, she suggested a rhododendron, which emma was reluctant to paint because of its association with danger and bad omens. for mary, she told her a carnation would be more fitting, as it represents love, strength, and motherhood. in addition, she requested a portrait of another, darker rose surrounded by an orange, apocalyptic-esque background, and one of a white lotus growing out of a still lake. when emma asked who these paintings were for, ida said nothing.
also already stated in the ask, but ida's cryptic and nonchalant behaviour would make samuel anxious because he thought she knew something he didn't about the future (if he wasn't a believer in that kind of thing before ida, he definitely became one). for a time, it worried samuel enough that he thought to ask her to stop reading fortunes, but he couldn't bring himself to, seeing how much she loved it.
ida was more quiet than usual during the taking of the wedding portrait, but right before they got together to capture the photo, she put a hand to her chest and rubbed at her eye, as though there was something in it.

Hello!! First of all, my English is not very good, sorry if there is any failure. Well, I'm new to Tumblr and I saw that your blog is great, I love discovering even more about Rusty Lake. I don't know if they already asked you the question, but, since in roots, it was noticeable that Albert was a little in love with Ida, what do you think Samuel would think and tell him about it?
Thanks!<3
hi there! your english is great! thanks for enjoying my blog :)
disclaimer: @thelakesuite is more of a samuel expert than i am, however, so i differ to their opinion.
we don't know much about samuel's personality other than what little we see in-game, but i tend to characterize him as a headstrong, adventurous boy who didn't get along exceedingly well with albert (obviously) as a child, who grew into a pretty chill guy overall. i sort of get into him more here?
i think it's canon in the games that samuel doesn't know about albert's obsession with ida. otherwise, he probably would have done something about it—i could definitely see him getting into a pretty heated argument with albert over it, especially if it was bothering ida. however, i believe that there was a significant disconnect between samuel and ida in that she knew what was coming, and he did not, and she wasn't about to tell him. in that way, she was probably rather private on some matters, and it's pretty clear that she knew how albert felt about her, meaning that she likely didn't tell samuel about any more... icky interactions she had with albert.
that's not to say that i think albert was super overt or overbearing about his feelings. i think he was angsting in private a lot.
there are actually some pretty great fics related to this premise if you're interested:

Wanted to do a study of albert long ago, because despite all my hate for him, I find him a rather interesting character. But for me he's incredibly hard to draw - because imo he's too static, like a creepy painting that haunts his own house. So yeah. The mirror is the only object get gets along with well
