diabetes has been #hard lately. had to leave christmas early bc my sensor randomly died and i was completely unprepared, woke up the other day with an insane high, and had a really scary low yesterday as well. chat, sometimes i don’t feel strong enough for this!!!!

Day Forty Six

Today was not as productive as I wanted it to be but I’m trying to be content with that!

Highs

- I’m a TA for a freshman orientation class and the lesson went really well today!! I also had two meetings with students that slayed

- I found out my field placement for education observations!! I’m gonna be in a middle school in Vermont with my bestie

- My education professor was in my bereal today lol

Lows

- My glucose has been TESTING ME and its making me so angry and upset with myself

- I got to see my bf for a few minutes but he’s the assistant stage manager for a play rn so he’s mad busy and our schedules keep overlapping

- I am helpless when it comes to understanding poetry and I need someone to explain every Percy Shelley poem to me like I’m in kindergarten

Day Forty Five

Highs

- I finished The Awakening by Kate Chopin for class!!

- Studied with my bf in the middle of the day

- Read through some old journal entries and got stuck in my feels

Lows

- Work sucked today. I think my boss doesn’t like me and I accidentally made a woman spill hot coffee on herself (I’m so sorry queen)

- Lady at CVS was just so mean to me frowny face

Day Forty Four

Hello!! It has been a week, yikes, the first week of classes kicked my ass. Let’s get into it?

Highs

- had a few great dates!! we watched legally blondes, painted together, watched some spooky content, and baked

- one of my bosses was performing at a music festival so i got to see her sing!!

- our literary magazine had our first e-board meeting and it went so well!! i’m so excited abt the year fr

Lows

- actually had a menty b the other day

- a disgusting amount of homework

- greek life stuff has been a lot lately

- i got $7 in tips the other day and i forgot it at work smh

Highs:

- my tire got fixed!!! and then broke again 😐

- i made a fire coffee at work today

- i’ve had my first day of all four classes!!! lots of lectures and i’m excited to get started

- had half apps with friends last night

- finished two assignments and some readings

Lows:

- this fucking tire will be the death of me

- my mondays are soooo long

- my friend had a really emotional night

- i don’t understand being a person

Highs - Waking up next to my bf >> - Got my tire fixed wooooo - Had a cow cuddling date <3 - Made my September journal layouts

Lows - Sometimes tires are expensive - Classes start up tomorrow - Have to sleep alone for the first time in a few weeks = big sad

Highs - Orientation is officially over!! My students were lovely, they all signed my clipboard, and I'm so happy for them - We had a very emotional final staff debrief and it was cutie - Spent the night with my boyfriend and we played so much Barbie Uno

Lows - Classes start tomorrow and I genuinely have not had a break this summer lol - I am nervous about carrying classes plus two jobs - My tire is still good and fucked

Highs

- I'm connecting with a lot of the students and they're pretty nice to me as their OL - We sat through so many presentations but they did pretty okay with the day - I know all of their names and faces - I got promoted to head tutor today at my writing center!!! - At the end of the day one of my students asked if we could all take a picture together Lows - One of my students was a fucking menace today - So many tiny things pissed me off an irrational amount - My tire is good and fucked

Day Thirty Nine

Keene State welcome days are in full swing and orientation is ON!

Highs - A good amount of my students have shown up for group time and events AND they're so nice - Soooo much boyfriend time I love him (we got half apps together) - I'm just happy there are people on campus again

Lows - I'm exhausted - Debrief with the staff lasts so long - I am required to go to a magic show tonight??? and that's so funny???

Day Thirty Eight

Guys, it's been SO LONG but I have been so busy with training for Orientation so let's do an overview.

Highs: - Did laundry - Had a successful endocrinologist appointment - I started writing again! I haven't gotten back into it since losing my 50k word novel draft but I finally got the motivation to start fresh - My roommates and boyfriend are all moved in - Went home for a few hours for my moms birthday dinner!!! - My brother fixed some things with my car and got it inspected yay - Helped with a game night for some first year students - So much boyfriend time

Lows: - I need to make an eye doctor appointment, sigh - Overall lacking energy and motivation - Had to help with athlete orientation and it was mid - We all got mad yelled at in training and it was weird as fuck - I'm so scared my students aren't going to connect with me and each other during orientation

The Minimalist Character Sheet

So I am not the biggest fan of those ten page character sheets that include 100 questions like “What’s their favourite ice cream?”. Don’t get me wrong: If those help you with your writing, more power to you! Do what works for you. But I tend to discover all the little details of a character while writing. I only need the fundamental things. Maybe this works for you too!

The Basics

Name: including all nicknames, titles, etc.

Gender

Age

Role in the Narrative

Physical Description: focus on defining features

GMC (If you want to learn more about the concept, check out this post.)

Short characterization: internal personality and external behavior

Behaviour pattern: at least three habits that emphasize their personality

Character Arc: where do they start, how do they change, where do they end?

Just Another Epic Love Poem -- Review

What I Liked:

- The writing style was absolutely gorgeous, I was pretty content just reading Akhbari's prose - Diversity in characters in terms of race, religion, sexuality, gender identity, etc. - The relationship between Mitra and Azar as sisters was really beautiful and well developed

What I Didn't Love: - I felt like the novel lacked an overall direction. I was confused about if the main plot was supposed to be focused on Mitra's family life or her relationship with Bea - I felt as if there wasn't enough build up to Mitra and Bea getting together. We could see Mitra's interest in her friend but the reciprocation seemed to come out of nowhere - I thought Bea was a pretty flat character overall - I was confused by the significance of Mitra's college decision. There was a lot of build up to there being conflict, especially with her lying to Bea, and it ultimately went nowhere

Rating:🌟 3/5 🌟

Concluding thoughts: I am admittedly not much into poetry so this may have just not been the book for me. I really loved the familial relationships and prose so I am interested in checking out future publications from Parisa Akhbari:)
