This this this this this!
It is okay to have complex feelings about All Might, especially regarding his teaching methods, because he’s a messy guy who is clearly being ruled by a lot of paranoia, grief, and trauma.
But it is downright bizarre when fics (especially longer ones) are completely or largely void of his presence. Every single one of those kids in that class adore him—he’s All Might!
It’s a billion times more weird when it’s Midoriya-centric, followed closely by fics that are Bakugou-centric. Every time Midoriya has some crap going on All Might is there for him. Even before he met the man personally! It’s weird to think he somehow wouldn’t be just because you’re writing an au or especially canon divergence.
Always so baffling when Dadzawa fics suggest that All Might doesn’t care about Izuku except as a successor. Like, I know the man isn’t perfect, but have we forgotten Yagi getting on his knees and promising Inko he’d protect her son with his life?? Are we ignoring the lovingly-packed bento boxes during the Dark Hero arc?? Are we pretending he didn’t call Izuku his personal hero???

Mr. D, dramatically sighing: I miss my wife.
Chiron: She should come and visit!
Mr. D: Absolutely not. The last time she was here was a disaster.
Chiron: Oh, I wouldn’t call it that. I thought she had a pleasant time.
Mr. D: You and her were conspiring. And then the brats wouldn’t shut up about it for the rest of the summer.
Chiron: I do not conspire. Besides, wouldn’t it be nice to have another pinochle player?
Mr. D: You do. You conspire all the time. You’re conspiring right now!
Chiron: Am I?
Mr. D: Yes!
Chiron: …I’ll prepare a lovely baklava for her.
Mr. D: The answer is still no!

In the kindest way possible…this is (probably subconscious) sexism I fear.
There are narrative reasons too! We get Gale’s flaws because Katniss is always analyzing other people (sometimes she’s wrong, or doesn’t see everything, but ultimately she’s a pretty suspicious person). The movies help to an extent because it’s a more distant POV than direct first person, too.
Coriolanus is similar to Katniss in his constant analysis and also hates Sejanus (and everyone else lol). There’s lots of negatives and they’re specifically spun in a negative light, however we as the audience tend to align much closer to Sejanus’s views than Coriolanus’s so it’s not too difficult for us to look past that.
Lenore Dove is very very similar to Sejanus in terms of acts of rebellion. They’re clumsy, not necessarily well thought out, and ultimately more harmful to herself than helpful in general.
Maybe you’re picking up narrative differences. Haymitch is a teenage boy who is genuinely in love (versus whatever the hell Coriolanus felt towards Lucy Gray). He’s going to be a little starry eyed. Katniss is the same about Peeta in many ways even as she isn’t actually in a relationship.
But Haymitch doesn’t ignore Lenore Dove’s recklessness—at one point he says it’s the only thing that actually stresses him out in their relationship. That, and she doesn’t talk to him about her acts of rebellion. Which makes sense because his most noticeable two character traits are 1) he is super in love with his girlfriend and 2) he is predisposed towards submission towards the Capitol. The place where those crash into each other is the place we get the conflict!
We also have to remember the privilege Sejanus had in the Capitol and with his wealth and Gale has by being given significant tactical decision making authority versus the utter lack of power Lenore Dove had as a 16yo girl in District 12 being raised by protective uncles. Her ability to do something meaningful is extremely limited.
BUT coming back to the sexism angle I think you should maybe reflect on why you feel uncomfortable with a girl being put “on a pedestal.” Especially when Haymitch doesn’t actually obfuscate the negatives from his narration—he’s just either acknowledges and is okay with those flaws or aware of them and willing to overlook them.
Remembering this is ultimately the healthiest main relationship we’ve seen, and again they are 16, that’s super realistic! Maybe if they went through life and death crap together there would be more tension, but it makes sense they are mainly in the “focus on the positives” stage of the relationship. And if anything it’s good representation of the way you would want a boy to feel and pay attention.
Never for a second are we made to doubt his love for her, or her love for him. That’s thematically important. Katniss and Peeta doubted because the Capitol was involved and their survival hinged on being together. Coriolanus was just…horrific about the whole thing. But in a series where love is the reason for the revolution? The loss of that pure love becomes the reason Haymitch gave up the rebellious behavior. He needed the reason. People need the reason.
how is it that I empathize with sejanus whole heartedly and gale to an extent, but not with lenore dove at all?
they all have that rebellious fire in them and want to make panem a better place, but don’t know how to do it. they are all a bit reckless, but are young people being held down by such a cruel system that effects them profoundly, taken advantage of by people they trust want to help them achieve their goals, and hurt people on their way to achieving said goals.
in the case of the boys—especially sejanus—all of those things make me empathize with them, yet I find myself angry at lenore dove. a lot. in the case of sejanus and lenore dove specifically: they want the world to change, they try to change it, sometimes recklessly, and ultimately they fail despite you wanting them to succeed. the former makes me unbearably sad, but the latter only makes me sad in theory and once I add additional context that isn’t present in canon.
I think it might be their characterization that sets them apart? we’re explicitly shown all of gale and sejanus’ flaws and empathize with them because they feel like real people, whereas lenore dove us put up on so high a pedestal I can’t empathize with her anymore? it is because sejanus’ death and gale’s role in creating the bombs were facilitated by betrayal, while lenore dove’s death was just… stupid?
is anyone else in the same boat? what do y’all think?

The tributes all felt painfully young. One of the first times we meet the Careers even the biggest and burliest of them are reduced to children as they struggling in the showers like the rest of them and their beards are shaved off. Even Wyatt, who is introduced as an 18yo already working in the mines, is given this very humanizing and youthful treatment with the way he tends to ramble on about betting stats, even at awkward times.
Maybe this is because we’re seeing a POV of someone who did have a childhood. Who was still in childhood, not forced to grow up and support a family and raise a sibling because nobody else would do it. Someone who saw other teenagers and thought of them as the scared kid he was instead of adults—because that’s what Katniss felt like at 16.

The Covey raised each other when the war ended and left them all orphans.
Clerk Carmine and Tam Amber raised Lenore Dove when Maude Ivory died in childbirth.
Lucy Gray, Maude Ivory, and Lenore Dove were all memorialized together.
Burdock and Lenore Dove spent time together frequently—yes because they were around the same age, but more specifically because they were distant cousins through their mothers.
Tam Amber became the Goat Man and was still alive by the time of THG. Clerk Carmine survived the bombing of District 12 and was the fiddle player at Finnick and Annie’s wedding in MJ.
What happened that neither of them helped Asterid and Katniss and Prim when Burdock died? What happened that Katniss didn’t even know Tam Amber’s name?
Snow took Lucy Gray from them. Then he took Lenore Dove, the child that Clerk Carmine and Tam Amber raised when another one of their own passed. We saw what the grief of it all did to Haymitch. It’s not that shocking that it might’ve happened to them, too.

…the volcano erupting was most likely a way for them to cover up the chaos happening to the rest of the arena
However
What if it was triggered just like all the other mechanisms that went haywire? I can’t imagine they’d really want their big blow out spectacle of a 50th Games to be over quite that quickly, with that little blood drawn by actual victors. I mean, think how devastating the falling apart of the Newcomers’ alliance would have been once all the Careers were dead.
In that same vein, how entertaining really is a flooded arena? Annie’s games could have easily been another failed attempt at rebelling. Especially because Haymitch “shook the Capitol” and the 70th Arena’s dam broke due to “an earthquake.”

I love that Maude Ivory was actually Lenore Dove’s mother. Lucy Gray, Maude Ivory, and Lenore Dove all buried (or at least memorialized) together in the woods away from the district that was never really theirs.
It means Barb Azure was Burdock’s mother. The woman we don’t know all that much about, other than she stayed back with her girlfriend that day the Covey and Coriolanus and Sejanus went out to the lake.
I like that this spread the inheritance around a bit more, rather than just a direct line. Someone in the family (we can maybe assume it was decided before Maude Ivory died, but maybe it was Clerk Carmine) decided to name Lenore Dove after Lucy Gray. Burdock sang pretty enough the mockingjays stopped to listen, and so does Katniss, and this is a Baird trait not something Maude Ivory (the best singer of the three cousins, at Lucy Gray’s admittance) could’ve passed on because his mother was Barb Azure. The whole of the Covey lives on in Katniss not just one singular legacy.

just having the stark realization that the failed act of rebellion was 24 years before katniss volunteered. that begs the question of whether or not there were more attempts. did johanna suffer the same fate as haymitch? did the capitol lie and say she was hidden the entirety of her games because she was given a similar (failed) assignment from beetee? did they have to erase countless hours of footage? edit things to make it seem like she was never where she actually was, simply hidden away from the chaos? how many mockingjay figures did they cycle through before landing on katniss? how many did they cycle through before the revolution actually began?

Listen I love geraskier meeting fics—variants of canon, arranged marriage aus, etc and etc—and “Jaskier is immortal somehow or another because the thought of him dying makes me sick” as much as the next person
But please for the love of god can we get some “older than a teenager” Jaskier? I don’t have a problem with the above but aging is NOT a curse or a plight or the most devastating thing one can experience. Canon Jaskier is in his 40s and I HARDLY EVER see fics that actually depict him at that age.
#i know they exist#I care more about aus anyways#they’re the ones that are most subject to change#aka making Jaskier an eternally youthful fae or something#i just saw one where he’s FIFTEEN and marrying Geralt#yes the plot is aware of how crazy that is#I’m not mad at the fic itself in the slightest#just like…we could have older Jaskier#it’s a possibility you guys#geraskier#the witcher#geralt of rivia#geralt x jaskier#jaskier#jaskier the bard#aging is a gift#aging is a privilege#please lord stop being so scared of it

Jango Fett, who watched his people be slaughtered by those representing a government who historically has oppressed his own (The Republic glassed Mandalore, which ended the Mandalorian Empire, and has done their best to keep them subdued since).
Jango Fett, who was enslaved for years afterwards. Who had to reclaim his armor—his life—violently but was unable to reclaim his people as nearly all were dead or scattered.
Jango Fett, who asked for nothing in addition to his payment aside from being allowed to keep one of the kids.
So has anyone drawn the comparison between Jango fett—although compensated—being essentially bred so his off spring could be used for a galaxy’s military labor not unlike enslaved ppl being bred so plantations could have more free labor
Or his genetic material being used in perpetuity after his death not unlike Mrs. Henrietta Lacks who’s cancer cells were stolen to be studied for their indefinite reproduction ability. Or that too real for ppl…

[Alt Text: All this tactical negotiation requires cognitive power. Male bowerbirds have relatively large brains, are long-lived and undergo a strange seven-year adolescence which is spent impersonating the female. Juvenile males share the same green plumage as the females and Gail thinks that learning their complex lothario skills might explain this unusually long, cross-dressing developmental period, which is spent not only practicing bower-building but being actively courted by adult males. ‘Young males learn courtship from the role of the female and they’ll often do these crouching displays. They don’t “mate”, but they’ll basically do this entire courtship from the female perspective and then if the male looks like he’s getting close to mating they just fly out the front.’]
