Embracing Their Sins (My Hero Academia Sad Fic)

He belonged here, for what he’d done… For everything he’d done. To his children, to his son… Tenko.

He’d caused it all… Because of him, because of what he’d done to him, his daughter, wife, and parent, his family, the family THAT CHOOSE HIM DIED! Even now, he knew what awaited him, he knew he couldn’t go to the same place as his family. And he didn’t deserve to, to see his precious Nao or Hana. To apologize to his them, to his parents Mako or Chizuo who’d taken him in when he had nothing, when he was worth so little his own mother abandoned him…

He'd wouldn’t even get to see his father who died, and he could accept that… It was funny, despite knowing what laid ahead, there was a certain clarity that came with death. A truly deep reflection of himself as he was forced the accept his sins… He was okay with being here, he found comfort in the knowledge that only he was here… And fear and true horrid guilt in the thought of what he’d do if his actions lead his son down here.

That more than anything that could be done here, more then any torture would be more painful, more soul shattering. It was in that moment, as he took the final metaphorical steps, as he accepted the dark and heat of the somehow also paradoxically soul chilling abyss that he saw her. Waiting there, standing before him, no different then the last day he saw her… The day she threw him away.

She was the same, from the small mole below her bottom lip’s right side, to that damn costume he’d recalled her wearing more than any other. Her sharp grey eyes looking to him… Sadly, also with true complicated joy mixed with utter regret.

“Kotaro…” He couldn’t help it, his lips moving before thought even occurred.

“Mom…” Eyes widened as he moved to cover his mouth, shock and regret for it, she didn’t deserve that title, and surely never wanted it. Throwing it away when she tossed him aside for others… A part of him knew that wasn’t right of him to think, but he also couldn’t find it in him to care for the truth of it.

Not right now, not right here, not after what’d happened, he just wanted to be mad. To wallow, to blame, if he couldn’t forgive himself, he wasn’t about to extend that to her. Not here, not now. But there was one thing he had to ask, that he needed to know, that simply didn’t make sense.

“Why are you here?” It was a valid question he thought, despite what he might’ve said in anger, rationalized to make himself feel better in his worst moment back in those days after he was isolated as a child. He knew, knew his birthmother saved people.

Protected the innocent, even dying doing so… Nana Shimura despite her faults as his parent was a good person, a hero in every sense of the word. That she was here, with him simply couldn’t make sense… So he had to ask why, perhaps, could this be his punishment, leaving him with her, damming her as punishment for himself.

Maybe back in his youth, when he’d been a teenager, angry at the world he might’ve taken some sort of satisfaction from it. But now, despite all he held against her, it merely doubled upon his already heavy guilt if that were the truth. Because deep down he knew she belonged there with his father, meeting his family… without him, just like he was sure she wanted…

If only he could know, that the voice she heard wasn’t the one he was used to anymore. That Nana couldn’t see Kotaro withered appearance, his broken state, she could feel it, in every way but sight it was conveyed to her… He was right, she didn’t belong here. But regardless the rules of this place for those who deserved ill fates and righteous karma still affected her.

For Nana, not being able to see Kotaro’s appearance was the greatest torture, to not see nor hear her son older form or voice, it was fair and oh so cruel… She saw him as he was that day, tears even now in his eyes, locked in that expression of hurt, of pain, unable to understand and confused and so, so scared…

It broke her, almost so thoroughly, so fully that she nearly regretted her choice, almost… But she also knew, though she probably didn’t deserve to be heer, hadn’t earned this hell according to some higher being, will or great karma whichever it was… The rules, or thoughts of that being or scale didn’t matter to her. She decided this would be her fate.

“Because I wanted to see you…” She had, every moment of every day of all her life since the moment she turned away from him. Since she left him. And even after, she’d waited by the gates, or was it the other side of the river or some lush field that she woke up to after she died.

It didn’t matter, not really, all that did was this, was what she choose to do… He looked at her confused.

“What?” It broke a piece of her heart she didn’t know was still together to hear that. To hear him question any show of love for him. But she understood it. Despite her reason, the true intent of her choice Kotaro couldn’t have seen it that way.

How could he process the truth of her leaving, how could anyone expect that of a child, one who lost his father due to her! And then, so scared, sad and confused over why he’d never see papa again she choice it. To leave him, to keep him safe…

But those were only one way of seeing things, and only half the truth, she had to accept the other.

“I choose to be here Kotaro.” That she choose to being a hero over being a mother, that she gave up her son to save people she’d never know. She walked to him, and he stood confused, disbelieving as her words dawned on him.

“But you, you should be there, with them… With dad.” She leaped at him, like she wanted to that day, like she should’ve. Her arms wrapping around him, holding him close and tight.

“I’M SORRY KOTARO!!!” She cried out the feelings that’s been carved into more than her heart but her very soul.

“MAMAS SO SORRY!!!” She choose to save as many people as she could, and the cost was leaving, no… She knew it might as well have been throwing away her own child. The many for the one.

“I SHOULD’VE STAYED!!!” At times she wondered it, if she’d just passed on the power, trained Toshinori in secret and then… Disappeared, faked her death, something… ANYTHING.

So many times, she’d thought of it, but always far to late… dreamed of holding him again, of apologizing to him in person instead of in her nightmares…

She died a hero, for others… for everyone, and when she woke she was promised eternity, peace, and to reunite with those she lost. Her parents, friends and husband all taken by time and One for All… And even those she was never able to meet, her daughter-in-law and granddaughter…

Everyone… Everyone but one, but the one, who she wanted, no who she needed to see most, who she dreamt of holding in her arms again… Her little Kotaro, her baby, her son… There was no lies, to deceit above…

She knew why he was there, she knew his sins, what he’d done, what he’d become… What she turned him into. Nana Shimura was not a mother, she gave up the right to that title, she’d abandoned her son, the reason meaningless to her, for all that remained was the fact of her sin. A sin that would apparently never be held against her.

But maybe, just maybe despite it all, she could be a mother again, Nana Shimura and lived and died a hero, sacrificing her life and child for others. So in death, maybe, just maybe she could be allowed to do the opposite, to throw away everything else, to for the chance to take him into her arms once more… To embrace in death the child she’d cast away in life.

She held him to her, her precious Kotaro, her only son, only regret and most precious person… The one she loved and hurt the most in the world. She cried, begged and apologized, endlessly, near pointlessly. A push, a shove, a scream or yell, if he’d done any, it wouldn’t have bothered her, wouldn’t have mattered, he could scream, yell, hit and rage at her and she’d gladly accept it all… But no instead when he finally spoke, his voice cracking, and young, his appearance that of the day she’d lost him.

“You don’t belong here… Like me.” There was pain, and even anger in his voice, but more then anything was shame. The shame of a parent who’d failed their child a shame she’d heared in her own voice every day since.

“You were a good person… Mom, unlike me… You, you deserve to be with dad… With everyone… And I belong here.” He smiled, a smile with no joy, nor contentment but the acceptance of a man facing his sins. All upon the childish face of her son when she’d orphaned him. The cold of the air set in then, the heat of fire, the sting of sin and weight of karma.

“Go back… Mom, go to dad… and meet your granddaughter.” He moved then, with a strength of a adult instead of the child before her. His soul lighter, it was funny, he always thought seeing her again would only hurt him. And yet he never felt so content as in this moment, was it her pain, her sorrow… Maybe a sick part of him took satisfaction, joy from it…

But then why was he so happy to know she would go to a better place…

…Oh

‘heh’ it was obvious wasn’t it… He was happy, because she… She finally came back for him…

But it was too late now, he had done too much, things that could never be taken back, he wasn’t a child, no he had failed his children, his wife and family. So now he would face the consequences of it. It was rather ironic, this time, he would leave her behind, the roles would reverse, but he knew his mom would be in a better place… With everyone else. He turned towards the abyss, the smell of sulfur strong.

“Goodbye… Mom.” And he stepped forward, only to then feel it, arms around him, strong and familiar, he turned and meet his mothers gaze. Her eyes steely, determined in a way never seen before by him in person but all too often when he watched her on TV in his youth.

“I’m Not Leaving You Again Kotaro… I’m never going to leave you alone ever again.” He moved to speak, to tell her the foolishness of her words. But she was quicker.

“Nothing will make me do it again! I’LL NEVER MAKE THAT CHOICE AGAIN!!! EVEN IF I HAVE TO THROW AWAY EVEYTHING ELSE!!!” Her hugged close and said what she should’ve back then, what her heart wanted her to say.

“YOUR WHAT MATTERS MOST TO ME!!! I’LL NEVER ABANDON YOU AGAIN!!!” Leave him, and return to paradise, what foolishness, how could it be paradise if she had to leave her son again to go there… How could it be anything but hell if she’d have to endure that soul rending choice once again…

No, she would make the right choice, the one that only mattered to her this time…

She let him go from her hug, but never left his side, taking his hand, he stared at her shocked at a loss for words… And she smiled back. Smiled that smile she’d given so many times, for so many people to keep them going, but now she showed it to him as she spoke.

“Don’t be scared, your moms right here for you… And I’ll never let you go again.” If her son would be cast to the depths of sin… She’d follow him there, not because she had to, nor because she felt obligated nor out of some sense of guilt… No because for her, this was what she wanted most. For Nana Shimura, not the hero, not the seventh user of One for All or even a devoted wife, but as the mother to Kotaro Shimura she wanted for nothing else but to be beside her son, no matter where he must go or what he must atone for… She wanted to be with him, like she couldn’t be in life.

She could see it, how he wanted to speak against her, to deny her, was it out of anger or love, regret or disgust, shame or guilt. But what finally managed to crack forward from his was a honest truth, one he’d held every day since she left. One that remained alongside the anger and pain.

“I… I missed you… Mom…” And she saw him, saw who he had become, her son, grown up, matured sharp features like his father. But also a weariness… Her son had become so handsome, she smiled and tightened her hold on his hand as her other reached up to his face, wiping his tears, the tears of a child who never quite grew up to match his body.

“It’s okay, I’m here now… We’ll go together so you don’t need to be scared.” He composed himself before looking to her.

“My son…” It hurt her heart to be reminded, and yet, that he would think of him even now  during their reunion made her feel proud.

“We’ll apologize together…” And so… They both stepped further into the abyss, towards the fire and brimstone, and yet unlike so many before, and so many more to come after, they looked so paradoxically… content.

Okay so diving a bit into the Fate series I'm realizing something Jaune qualifies to be a Heroic spirit. The Rusted Knight is literally his legend... And now I'm trying to think on how much his legend (The Story) Effects him.

Would he be a Rider (Juniper Mount) Or a Saber... I would suggest Ruler but from my understanding it requires one to not covenant to Grail which due to his regrets (Pyrrha, Penny & Alyx) I can't see Applying to him.
