it's not like I don't understand the desire to upset the status quo or raise the stakes (although @tim my brother in christ you are the one who SET the stakes to begin with) it's just that the "death as noble sacrifice" is so fucking boring to me. especially in this instance. you could upset the status quo and show that there are lasting consequences to the emergencies by giving him a career-ending injury. he wanted to retire last season and then changed his mind. have him grapple with his agency in that important life decision being taken away. create conflict with athena over him being retired and lonely while she continues to work. change the power dynamics at the 118 while keeping him around as a friend and mentor. push him into a desk job and show that aspect of public safety. make him feel powerless to protect his people. show him trying to manage chronic pain and boredom with his history of addiction. I'm not even opposed to character death!!! if they had followed through on him dying to save the grants from a house fire that would have been a poetic end to a character who was introduced as his family's sole survivor. but the way they went about this is BORING I'm fucking BOREDDDDDDDDD
#yeah this is kinda where im at with#and exactly op if they really wanted to kill him off it should’ve happened last season#also a career ending injury would’ve worked to keep the stakes for LONGER.#bc i don’t actually trust tim to deal with the team’s grief for longer than the remaining eps. considering previous storylines lol#9-1-1#911 spoilers

watching the pitt with noah wyle as dr robby (the saddest and most anxious ridden man in all of pittsburgh) THEN watching leverage redemption with noah wyle as lawyer harry wilson (former evil lawyer but turned good guy, enthusiastic louisiana weird guy who occasionally wears funny costumes and pulls cons) is giving me serious whiplash

i haven’t really been watching the show since 8.06 but i’ve been lurking around fandom and keeping up with storylines and the thing that gets me about yesterday’s ep and mcd is like. it could’ve happened last season. it could’ve happened after bobby spent several episodes facing his past and trying to make things right and then has a heart attack while trying to save his wife. and instead they went for a death where yeah, he’s saved his team, but he’s completely isolated from them and can’t even properly say goodbye? and there was no lead up to it except in the episode right before? idk that’s why i can’t really make sense of it (i mean, i can, the show isn’t the best written) and that’s why i was so convinced it was a cover up, but then the goodbye posts hit and i’m just. 😐
#it’s also like. this is the first mcd on the show in 8 seasons and that’s… what you do with it? idk idk#now again not watching the show properly rn but also. i do think it can continue without him based on how other shows have done.#obviously it will NOT be the same. but i also think saying that the show will def end after s9 bc bobby is dead isn’t true. look at grey’s.#but anyway. it doesn’t make sense. IT DOESN’T MAKE SENSE!!!!!!!!!!#and yes i am happy about bucktommy and the very clear future reunion + angst but. at what cost. jeez.#911 abc#911 spoilers#911 discourse#9-1-1#(am kinda terrified to post in this fandom but hello 👋)
