Remembering a Pen-pal... And Honoring a Friend.
When I joined Tumblr roughly a year ago, I stumbled upon a blog that was owned by a lovely man (whom we'll call Kevin for the sake of privacy) who was a father of several children, and married to a loving wife. He had a way with words, managing to make the complex experiences of life boil down to simple concepts. He was humble, and yet comfortable with his talents; he was accepting, and yet unashamed of his faith; and he had big dreams and yet the centered on serving others.
Fairly soon after I began following his blog, he posted a request for a penpal to swap stories and life experiences with. I thought it was a lovely take on the concept, given our modern era and the slow death of snail mail as a form of communication. Soon after, we were writing back and forth every few days, talking about everything from life, to our writing journeys, to our beliefs, to our individual hopes and dreams.
Barely a month after we'd first introduced ourselves, I received some rather bad news.
He'd been diagnosed with terminal cancer, it was predicted he would have no more than two months to live, and his life would be cut short at the age of 35.
What struck me about this man was that through it all, from the first message to his last, he never lost sight of his gratitude towards life, and he never abandoned his faith in his God. Even as he had to come to terms with the fact his daughters would lose their father before they'd even finished high-school, he would talk about how thankful he was for the time he'd had, and the life he'd lived.
The final message I received from Kevin was one that touched me in a way that not many things had. He told me he would no longer be writing as he wanted to spend as much of the time he had left as he could with his family. He also told me he was compiling a collection of poems and letters for his wife and kids to read after he was gone.
He also apologized for how short our time writing to each other had been.
Kevin was a man who somehow managed to put others first, even as his body was dying. He was a man who's faith gave him hope that this was not the end. He was a man who taught me to take time for the things that really matter to you. And he was a man that will always hold a place in my mind as a role model for how serving others was meant to look like.
So even though I know you're gone, I want you to know: I am thankful for the time we had to write to each other, I am thankful for the encouragement you gave me to pursue my dreams and goals, and I am thankful for the friendship we had, even as short as it was. I may not have ever met you face to face, but Kevin, I am thankful for you.
Perhaps we will meet again on the other side of this life. May your family find peace, and may you find rest,
In memory of Kevin.

Hey yall!
So this blog is mostly just random crap and memes etc, but my personal and more active blog for writing/journaling/life reflections and such is here:
Love to see you there <33 say hi, I don't bite ^-^
P.S. if you got a follow from this account and you write or do poetry, it was meant to be from @the-castaways, I'm just incompetent and can't figure out how to change it xP

Somewhat relatedly (to the previous post) I freakin love found family.
Like, my “adopted” (she’s an adult or we might’ve actually adopted her cause she was disowned) younger sister came over for the evening and we were just doing some brainstorming for a creative writing project she was working on.
And like, we were about thirty minutes in and she just goes “you mind if I take off my bra? It’s been bothering me all day.” And at one point years ago (we’re talking 8+) I’d be really uncomfortable but I literally just glanced up and was like “hm? Oh sure whatever.” She just unclips it under her shirt, tosses it in her purse and we go right back to writing. I genuinely didn’t even think about it afterwards.
Like… when you find family that you can genuinely be comfortable around and not give a frick? I just love it so much idk. And the fact she felt comfortable enough to even ask, knowing I wouldn’t like… side glance or whatever, idk man, I just love my family
(Probably weird to share that looking back, but like, found family yall, it makes me happy)

Hear me out:
Men wearing loose gym shorts and boxers is the equivalent of women taking off their bras when they get home.
Like, I don’t go to the gym, but if I’m just getting home and chillin, wanna be comfortable, gonna slap on some gym shorts and boxers and it’s just very nice. 😂
Alt: or we could just get kilts.
Food for thought.

Dear pinterest,
If you would be so kind as to stop putting attractive humans all over my home feed I would very much appreciate it.
I'm lonely enough already dammit.
sincerely,

Reblogging for the fun fact xP
It was unexpected,
How everything disintegrated by your touch alone.
I was lost; I could hardly defend myself
Everything scattered,
Treasures I can never attempt to retrieve again.

(Fun fact: This is quite literally me lamenting about being killed by a Witch in Minecraft and losing all my stuff.)

I will forever and always loathe the American concept of “time change” that supposedly makes sense, but RUINS sleep cycles, (scientifically proven) spiked depression, and serves no purpose that I can conjure up.
In short, daylight savings sucks.

Watching boba Fett (if you haven’t seen it you should it’s very well crafted with good story and solid actors. The world building and arcs are artfully thought out) and the story follows Boba Fett and Fennec Shand.
(Spoilers so small it’d be like saying captain America has a shield below)
At one point in the show Fennec pulls a spy droid from her rifle, and I was thinking… she’s recognized as one of the best assassins in several quadrants. But like, wouldn’t anyone be a master assassin if they had super cool gadgets and gizmos?
Heck if I had jet packs and rocket launchers and rifles so good they can see through walls I reckon I’d be pretty good too??
Then I was thinking, gosh I bet those gadgets cost a lot…. Might even be custom made or gifts from people they shot. You don’t see that crap on your every day foot soldier.
-
They didn’t get the weapons and gadgets so they could be masters of their craft, they got them because they were masters at their craft.
To earn a better tool, you must first make your own. Then, you prove your skill, and soon, you rise to the top.
Make your tool. Home your craft.
Then go assassinate some fat slugs named after shabby wooden buildings.
Be the crime lord you were meant to be.

I’m sorry but a dumbass show with dumbasses pulling dumbassery, has no freaking right to spawn a line that slaps so hard,
“Let us dance amongst the gossamer thin line that stands between pleasure and pain.”
….and is spoken by a man pretending to be an electric toothbrush.
What is comedy anymore, but the brilliance of fools?

Let's normalize being romantic with boys. Let's normalize giving them gifts, complimenting them, telling them that they don't have to do everything themselves, that they can count on help. Let's normalize asking them if everything is okay or if they are sad and giving them space when they say they don't want to talk about something. Let's normalize caring for their well-being, reassuring them that they are attractive and that they are wanted. Let's normalize them wanting to be little boys again, to enjoy something like a child, to be kissed on the forehead or to be stroked on the head. They need it as much as we do.

"North Latitude, 28 Degrees, 24 Minutes, west longitude, 80 degrees, 36 minutes. There are 14 phrases to keep in mind. With that, my friend will trust me and I will become his friend. What is most needed is courage. He who chooses the will of God before the law of humans. Go there and wait for the new moon. That's when heaven will come."
So I need y'all to understand I've never seen JoJo, nor did I have any knowledge of it before googling this quote, so when I scrolled through the comments of a 7 year old vine and saw this...
Pretty sure I suffered several strokes trying to decipher the meaning, doctors unsure if I'll ever truly recover.

I feel confident enough to post these now. A collection of all the existing posters after some edits from the other post that got 13k notes! These are full size/quality. Go nuts.
You may use them for wallpapers, tabletop campaigns, whatever. Consider tipping me or buying a print or sticker on ko-fi here! If you do use them, let me know what for, or send pictures!
