Brandon Vietti, Batman: Under the Red Hood

Strangely, my favorite part of this scene comes after the fight, in the exchange between Batman and the Red Hood. So many subtle character details are portrayed in such a small chunk of dialogue:

"You can't stop crime. That's what you never understood! I'm controlling it! You wanna rule them by fear, but what do you do with the ones who aren't afraid? I'm doing what you won't. I'm taking them out!"

"Tell me what happened to you. Let me help."

"...It's too late. You had your chance."

Bruce knows right away that something must have happened to this guy to twist him up inside, but he has no idea what he's getting himself into when he offers to help. In this case, his instinct to reach out to those in need achieves the opposite effect, reminding Jason of how Bruce failed to help him in the past, and how much it cost them both. His response affirms the rift between the two; the damage is done, and it can never be undone. Really tugs at the heartstrings, don't it?
