Tumgik
i just finished watching the animaniacs reboot, and...
oh man, what a ride that was!
Tumblr media
i found this show by a complete accident, but i'm super glad i did!! it was so much fun! animaniacs unlocked new interests in me, ones that i had no idea about, and helped me to stay positive at times when no one else was around :) i cant wait to watch the og show!
the characters are so cute, charismatic, zany and insane-y! those are the kind of cartoons you'll enjoy when you were young, rewatch when you grow up, and then show to your kids
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
just look at the warners, so adorable :))))))
and the laboratory mice... i don't even know what to say
Tumblr media
i came into the reboot not knowing anything about them, except that it's a cartoon that some of the older ppl from my country loved watching when they were kids... and, well, i expected something interesting, but not something that will impress me too much? boy, was i wrong...
i heard a couple of words about the show from the VA's, and they're completely right when they say patb is not about taking over the world, but about a relationship. the writing of the characters is so, so impressive! i mean, their interactions grabbed the attention of thousands of people, and those are just cartoonish mice!!
and now, to my one biggest complaint...
...WHERE IS SEASON 4???
Tumblr media
it's really sad that they had to do this hurried ending of the reboot, with just 10 episodes of the third season, which also turned out to be the last... but why??? people love animaniacs! i really hope that another streaming service picks them up, but for now... we're waiting!
also, hi to everyone in the animaniacs and patb fandoms who's still alive! glad to see some of you are still posting and reblogging stuff! let's be friends :)))

Rosalina has a nice bedroom
Tumblr media
Not sure what's up with the random tree though. It kinda clashes with the rest of the room, don't you think?
Actually now that I think about it, her Amiibo Party board is covered with things that are relevant to her (her storybook, a starshroom, starbits, etc.)...and also a tree.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't get it, what's with the trees? Why is the second one in a dome? Does Rosalina really like trees or somethi-

Don't worry Chapter 2 isn't actually called that. Instead I went with the incredibly creative:

What are some Animaniacs episodes from both the original and the reboot you would recommend to newcomers (like me)?
Thank you for your question!
Well, there’s the first episodes of each series, of course (btw although it is the longer show I’d suggest starting with the original before the reboot considering the reboot is really more of a sequel series).
But if you want less obvious options, I would suggest;
For 1993:
The Warners’ 65th Anniversary Special (Episode 65)
Yakko's World/Cookies for Einstein/Win Big (Episode 2)
HMS Yakko; Slappy Goes Walnuts; Yakko's Universe (Episode 3)
Taming of the Screwy (Episode 5)
Piano Rag / When Rita Met Run (Episode 7)
King Yakko (Episode 10)
Bonus segments: I’m Cute, Potty Emergency, Bumbie’s Mom, Bubba Bo Bob Brain, Smitten with Kittens
The idea of the list is that I’m recommending episodes that I think are good introductions to Animaniacs in general, not just my favourites. These episodes/segments either cover the Warners’ origin, serve as good introductions to what I believe are the best segments of the show besides the Warners, provide a good idea of what Animaniacs’ music is like, or is a good showcase of one/all of the Warners’ personalities and what they do.
For 2020:
Gold Meddlers/Pinko and the Brain/Math-Terpiece Theater: Apples (Episode 3)
Warner She Wrote; France France Revolution; Gift Rapper (Episode 7)
WhoDonut; Mousechurian Candidate; Starbox and Cindy (Episode 8)
Here Comes Treble; That's Not the Issue; Future Brain; The Incredible Gnome in People's Mouths (Episode 9)
Phantomaniacs; Fear and Laughter in Burbank; Bride of Pinky; Things That Go Bump in the Night (Episode 11)
Rome Sweet Rome/Backwards Pinky/Wakko's Short Shorts: Now Loading (Episode 14)
Bonus segments: Suffragette City, Ralph Cam, Roadent Trip, The Cutening, A Zit!, Yakko’s Big Idea
Again, the idea is that I think these episodes/segments are a good introduction to show’s characters and characterisations, songs, tone, etc. So nothing too continuity dependent, and nothing too far into the run (even though I really like a lot of season 3).
If you’d rather have a list of my favourite episodes and segments rather than the ones I think are good introductions, I made a post about them here.
If you do check these out, I hope you like what you see!

Dear God, what have I done?
So, do any of you remember when I posted an idea for an Animaniacs AU called "Wish Upon a Warner"? Probably not, but the point is...
I rebooted it. Can you reboot something you never started beyond the pitch? I guess the proper term would be "reworked"...whatever. New premise, new stories...and now it has a different kind of crossover. Ngl this is (or rather, hopefully will become) a completely different series of fics, but the title fit so perfectly I decided to reuse it.
You can read the summary of the first work of the series on AO3, but I'll post the notes here:
What happens when you have four comfort characters, but one exists in an entirely different universe than the others?
You make a self-indulgent AU to force them together, duh.

You can donate to the Palestine Children's Relief Fund for as little as $1.00.
Tumblr media
There is a fee you can choose to apply to cover processing.
Tumblr media
Which if you choose to do leaves you with a total of ~$1.35 (USD) depending on the type of card you have.
Tumblr media
PCRF has a score of 97% on Charity Navigator.
Adults and children alike are currently dying in Palestine due to starvation. (World Health Organization Link)
The Gaza Strip is one of two places in the entire world that is categorized as Phase 5 (the highest phase) on the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification scale.
So even if you think it isn't enough, remember that donating even as little as $1.35 helps! It's $1.35 they wouldn't have had otherwise. So donate if you can. 🇵🇸

I'm rambling about the Warners and Scratchy again
Okay so in issue #7 of the Animaniacs comics the Warners wanted to look at an executive board meeting, got carried away, Scratchy got in trouble over it because he was meant to stop them, and Dr. Scratchansniff ends up going insane:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look at how they watch the van leave. They're literally making this face: 🥺
Poor things miss Scratchy already!
A new psychiatrist is hired, and based on the unimpressed looks on their faces they clearly want Scratchy back, even before it turns out the new guy is insanely strict (and also insane in general as the end of the story reveals).
So of course after a series of zany shenanigans the Warners do their thing and set things right by getting Scratchy back.
Tumblr media
It's sweet (even if it's kind of in a twisted way considering they lowkey kinda guilt trip him by turning on the waterworks 😅) that even after they got him sent to a psychiatric hospital, he still misses them. This comic released in November 1995, so considering how their relationship in the show had developed by season 3 it makes sense.
I just like what this story says about the Warners' characters. Sure, when they're tormenting "special friends" they know they're being annoying. Even when they aren't and they're just interacting with people, they know that they're annoying a lot of the time, they embrace that. What others may view as annoying, they see as fun. But that's just it, they do what they do to have fun, they're snarky but not genuinely malicious (when unprovoked, at least). Just chaotic, playful and extremely boisterous, sometimes to the point that they get carried away, and that can lead to unintended consequences. This happens in the show sometimes (like in "Schnitzelbank" or "Fair Game"), but it's nice to see that aspect of their characters not 100% played for laughs.
Their actions had serious consequences that negatively impacted themselves and someone they care about. There's no punchline at the end of the story where they drive Scratchy insane all over again or anything like that, they're genuinely nice to him for the rest of the issue because (possibly purposeful pouring puppy peepers aside) they were genuinely remorseful about what they did. They're smart kids, but still kids at the end of the day, who sometimes find it hard to control themselves. This story reflects that aspect of their characters well, all the while scratch-ing (ha) that "Scratchy is the Warners' dad" itch in my brain.

...and the winner is Animaniacs (1993) Episode 1!
No surprise here, not only is it a good first episode, it's what kicked off the franchise in the first place.
De-Zanitized introduces the main trio pretty well, The Monkey Song not only introduces most of the other co-stars but also makes for an earworm of a first song number (not including the theme song), and Nighty-Night Toon...uh...was in the episode too!
Well it had Jim Cummings do what was essentially his Winnie the Pooh voice in a Warner Bros cartoon, so the irony was humorous at least.
I asked for your favourite finale...
...but first impressions are just as important!
