Foodie Love
Pairing: Bucky x Reader (relationship), Tony Stark x Reader (friendship)
Warnings: None
Word Count: 3500
Summary: You own a famous restaurant in the middle on New York City. For it’s one year anniversary, you call up your dear friend Tony Stark to help you plan the perfect bash. But what does Tony have in store for you?
Tumblr media
You were anxious, like something big was going to happen. You had no idea why, you never got nervous, it was an unknown concept to you. But for some reason, when you opened up your restaurant that morning, you felt uneasy and found yourself sweating despite the autumn chill. You shrugged it off and started getting all your tasks done before the morning rush of customers would be coming in.
You owned a wonderful, and quite popular, little restaurant hidden in the great, cultural city of New York. Your restaurant had one theme – travel, which incorporated dozens of different cultures, food and vibes from all over the world. After graduating high school, you had spent a year studying in Europe as a foreign exchange student, and spent the next few years after that traveling to each continent on the planet before returning to New York to attend business school and pursue your dream.
You definitely had what people call the “travel bug”. For nearly five years, you had spent very little time at home. Instead, you opted for roaming about; meeting new people, experiencing new cultures, and discovering amazing foods.
Food had always been close to your heart, your family often bonded over making dinner together and trying new recipes. So while you were traveling and figuring out what the next step in your life would be, you had the brilliant idea of starting a business that could incorporate your two favorite things; food and traveling.
You had owned your restaurant for almost a year now, and you wanted to do something special for its anniversary. You had poured your heart, soul and life savings into this business, it was basically your child. So you contacted one of your good friends, Tony Stark, to help you plan something amazing.
Not long after you had first opened up, Tony had heard through the grapevine about one of your specialty dishes, the famous Shawarma you had discovered in Turkey, and of course he had to check it out for himself. He immediately fell in love with your food and the vibe of the whole place, and became a frequent customer. You grew to love his quirky personality and witty remarks, and it helped that he was a foodie just like you. He quickly became one of your closest friends.
As your first task of the day, you called Tony up. You really just wanted to know the name of his famous party planner, but once he heard of your plans for a big birthday bash, he insisted that he would take over the planning himself.
“Tony um, I don’t know if that’s such a good idea” you admitted. “Don’t you have some saving the world to do?”
“Listen, babe, you know how much I care for you and that baby of yours. Don’t you think she should be in the best hands possible?”
“Well yeah I sup-“
Tony quickly cut you off before you could start to protest again. “Alright here’s the plan, good looking. I’m going to stop by later after you close, and we are going to sit down and punch this thing out, and it’s going to be the best damn party I’ve ever thrown. So save some shawarma for me, because I’m coming.” And before you could even open your mouth to reply, he quickly hung up the phone.
All you could do was laugh to yourself and mentally prepare for all the wild plans Tony was undoubtedly cooking up. ‘That’s probably why I was feeling so anxious’, you thought to yourself.
The day surprisingly flew by as you began to look forward to Tony’s visit. He was the king of parties in New York after all, it couldn’t be too bad.
It finally came time to close up for the day, and there he was, right on time. You both sat down at one of your tables while your loyal staff cleaned up the restaurant and served Tony his beloved shawarma.
“So,” you started. “What do you have for me, Tin Man”.
Tony gave his famous eye roll to you before slamming a full-on binder down onto the table.
“Well, let’s begin with the theme. My first idea was ‘girls gone wild’, but I didn’t think you’d go for that, so I also came up with a couple others. What do you think about just a color theme, black and gold? Very classy and elegant, and women are always turned on by class”.
“You’re disgusting Tony” you replied. “But I actually like it. Black is my favorite color, and I agree, it should be a classy event. My baby deserves the best. What about some kind of entertainment?”
“No strippers” you quickly added on after seeing that famous smirk come onto Tony’s face.
“You know me too well sweetheart” he answered with a sigh. “Now that you mention it, you really like Coldplay right? Chris Martin actually owes me a favor. I could ring him up.”
“HOLY SHIT TONY” you accidentally yell from surprise and absolute joy. “That would be amazing!”
“See, now I bet you’re glad I took this job instead of my planner, right.”
“When you’re right, you’re right.”
“Never thought I’d hear you say that. Bit of a turn on actually.”
You shoved Tony before laughing at his gross sense of humor. You continued to plan the party together for the next hour, before bidding Tony good night, thanking him for everything and offering him free food for the rest of his life, a gesture which he gladly accepted.
A month had gone by, and it was finally the day of your big party. You kept the restaurant closed all day to cook with your staff all the food you would, of course, supply for your party. Tony had decided to invite half the city it seemed like, so you had your whole staff working to help you out with the cooking and serving for your guests.
It was an hour until everyone was set to arrive, and the place looked absolutely amazing. Tony had really out done himself; he set up the lighting to point out all the travel memorabilia hanging on your walls, accented by the black and gold decorations hanging everywhere. He even managed to get THE Coldplay to come and play for a while, they were currently setting up in the corner after taking photos with your fangirl self and staff. You couldn’t thank Tony enough, but you had been trying all day.
“Actually darling, there is one thing you can do for me to thank me.” Tony eventually suggested.
“Anything, name it.”
“I have a date lined up for you tonight…”
“A date? Tony, you know I don’t have time for a relationship right now.”
“Just humor me for the night Y/N, he’s a little rough around the edges, but he’s a really good guy deep down.”
“Who is he, do I know him?”
“You’ll know him when you see him.” And that was all he said on the subject.
Bucky’s POV (earlier that morning):
You were casually sitting in the common room of the Avengers Tower, just reading a book on the couch. You loved to read on your days off when you weren’t training, it gave you a chance to escape your confused mess of a life for a while. All of a sudden, the whole team seemed to flood into the room.
“What’s going on?” you asked Steve.
“Tony called us in here. Apparently, he has a big announcement for everyone.”
‘Great,’ you thought to yourself. Tony was always up to no good in your opinion.
Tony then strolled into the room with an air of accomplishment around him. That wasn’t unusual.
“It’s your lucky day, ladies and gents” he started. “We have quite the soiree to attend tonight.”
He quickly held up his hands to silence the mouths that were already opening up to protest.
“I know, I know. None of you are party people. But this isn’t for me, it’s for a good friend of mine.”
“You have friends?” Sam called out from the back of the room.
Everyone laughed, but continued to listen to Tony. He seemed rather serious about this, for once.
“Haha, very funny Birdbrain. I’m serious. You know that amazing restaurant I bring food home from sometimes, the travel one? It’s the one year anniversary party tonight and I expect you all to be there in support. The owner is a dear friend of mine, and she has put everything she has into that place. She’s an absolute darling, and you’ll all love her. So put on your best suits and dresses, the theme is black and gold. I’m heading over there now, but I expect to see you all there at 7:00, sharp.”
Everyone was slightly taken aback at how passionate Tony seemed to be about you and your restaurant, but they all nodded in agreement that they’d be there.
As everyone turned and went back to what they were doing before, Tony approached you.
“Hey Barnes, I have a surprise for you”
You obviously looked skeptical, it was no secret that Tony Stark wasn’t your biggest fan, nor were you, his.
“What is it…” you asked hesitantly.
“You have a date tonight, so you better look extra nice.”
“A date? Who? Why? Stark I haven’t been on a date in 70 years and I don’t know that I even want one.”
“Relax soldier, she’s the owner of the joint. Great girl; been around the world and lived more of a life then most of the people on this planet. Plus, she can cook like nobody’s business.”
“Why me? Why not Steve or Sam or anyone else?”
“She won’t admit it, but she’s lonely. She’s met thousands of people from everywhere you could think, but she doesn’t have on special person to connect and build a life with. And I know you’re lonely too. You need to get out there again man, and trust me, she’s the best. Think of it as my final peace offering after everything that’s happened.”
You had mixed feelings about this; it sounded like a good idea, why not right? But what if she didn’t like you, what if she was scared of you? Bucky didn’t want to make you feel uncomfortable at your own party.
“Does she even know I’ll be her date?” you ask, slightly worried.
“Not yet, but trust me, she’ll like you.”
“I’m trusting you on this, Stark.”
“You can thank me tomorrow, player.”
Reader’s POV (present time):
It was finally 7:00, and your guests started arriving right on time! You were so excited, but again, had that strange sense of nervousness. Tony was probably to blame for that, you really didn’t need a date to your own party.
You were so busy greeting and tending to your guests, you didn’t notice when the doors flew open and the room grew quiet in awe.
“THERE you are! Now the party can start!” yelled Tony excitedly as he dashed forward to greet your most recent guests.
You turned and looked over your shoulder to see who had arrived, and your eyes immediately locked onto the handsomest man you had ever seen.
You quickly recognized who he was, especially when he was surrounded by the rest of the Avengers. But all the photos you had seen of him in the papers and on the television, hadn’t done him justice. He was incredibly tall and even under his sleek black suit, you could tell he was thick with muscle. His long hair was pulled back into a low bun, but some strands had fallen loose and framed his chiseled jaw perfectly. His mouth was set into a firm line, he looked nervous. But the thing that really caught your attention were his piercing blue eyes that still glittered, even despite the low lighting.
You stared for what felt liked hours before snapping back to reality and excusing yourself to go greet your new guests. You felt like you were floating as you made your way over to Tony and his friends.
“Y/N! You know who these guys are, I’d like you to meet my favorite gang of hooligans, the Avengers. Avengers, this is Y/N, that darling woman I was telling you all about.”
You felt yourself blush as you tried to avoid eye contact with the dark and alluring man at the back of the pack.
“Wow, if Tony had told us you were so beautiful, I would have prepared some good pick-up lines for you” Sam said as he stepped forward and kissed your hand.
“Something tells me that you usually don’t need any lines” you laughed back.
“Thank you all for coming tonight.” You addressed the whole group. “Tony has told me so much about you.”
“Wish we could say the same, love” said Steve as he stretched out his hand to shake yours.
“Boys, lay off the lady” said Tony with a smirk. “Go mingle and spread my good name.”
The team dispersed and spread out around the room, finding old friends and trying your spread of delicious food.
You turned to go back to greeting your guests when Tony put a hand on your arm.
“Y/N, this is Bucky. He’s to be your date for the night. I don’t want to hear any protests from either of you.” And with that, he sauntered away to mingle with the ladies already ogling him.
You raised your eyes to look at the man standing before you, and you couldn’t help but smile.
He was staring warmly back down at you, still looking rather nervous.
“I don’t know what Tony told you, but I didn’t ask for this” you quickly said to clear any air.
“I figured, you don’t seem the type of girl to want to be set up by Tony Stark” he replied in a voice that made you swoon. It was low and seductive, he probably didn’t even try to make it sound that way.
You awkwardly giggled as you tried to keep your composure. “So, Bucky, tell me about yourself.”
You and Bucky spent the whole night talking about anything and everything. He stayed by your side and even engaged in some conversations as you mingled with all your other guests. You couldn’t believe how comfortable you felt with him, and how open he was with you. You told him all about your travels around the world, and he seemed genuinely interested to hear about your adventures. You told him about your family and your childhood, and he told you about his.
Bucky loved listening to you talk about your passions and your life of excitement. He loved how your voice went up an octave when you got to an exciting part of a story. He loved how you gestured wildly with your hands to better express yourself. He loved how your eyes scrunched up when you recalled an embarrassing moment. Tony was right, you were incredible.
Even though he was having a wonderful time with you, Bucky couldn’t help but feel like you couldn’t be genuinely interested in him. Your life had been filled with so much adventure and happiness, how could he ever compete with that? He felt as if there was no way you two could ever have a real connection, as much as he wanted to. There was just too much of a difference between your lives. How could you ever like him, when he thought he had nothing to offer you?
You felt the complete opposite. You knew all about Bucky, about his tragic past and everything he had been through. No one ever mentioned it to him, but everyone knew. But with everything that had happened to him, you were amazed that Bucky had been so open and talkative to you. He hadn’t told you anything about his time as the Winter Soldier of course, but he had told you about his life before he was taken by HYDRA and about his life today. You knew he must trust you already, if he was expressing actual feelings with you. You were intrigued, to say the least.
You hardly ever thought about boys or a relationship, running a business took up a lot of your time and energy. But Tony was right, you were lonely. And just a few hours spent with Bucky had filled that missing void in your life so quickly. You hadn’t had a real relationship since college, and you missed feeling an intimate connection with someone, especially someone you were incredibly attracted to. You just hoped Bucky felt the same.
The night was quickly coming to an end and your guests were trickling out into the ever-busy New York streets. You had lost Bucky in the sea of people hugging and kissing you goodbye, and wishing you well in the years to come. You were amazed at how many of your friends and family had come out to celebrate your success.
Eventually, everyone had left, except for Tony and the rest of the Avengers. You plopped down on an empty chair next to Bucky, and let out a huge, tired sigh. He felt your exhaustion, so he wrapped his arm around your shoulders and pulled you into his chest. You smiled in content as your closed your eyes and took in his manly scent. You could’ve stayed like that for hours. That is, until Tony very awkwardly cleared his throat.
You suddenly remembered that you were still surrounded by people. Your head shot back up away from Bucky, and he looked rather disappointed.
“Can I get you guys anything, some drinks maybe?” you asked, still playing hostess.
“We were actually about to head out” answered Steve. “We just wanted to make sure we got a chance to thank you for a wonderful evening.”
“Oh, okay” you said, a little displeased. “Well at least take some food home for tomorrow, I have so much left over.”
“Can never say no to you, sweetheart” replied Tony.
Out of the corner of your eye, you could see Bucky tense up when Tony called you sweetheart. You smiled to yourself at that.
You took off your heels and threw them into a corner before going into the kitchen to get some boxes for the leftovers. If you would’ve kept your ear to the door, you would’ve heard Tony and Sam start to poke fun at Bucky for being like a lost puppy, following you around all night. Bucky just shrugged it off and gave them both a look that could have killed. He would never admit it, but they were right. He was completely infatuated with you.
You came out of the kitchen and packed up enough food to last the team the next week. You hugged everyone goodbye, and thanked them all for coming.
You gave Tony a couple extra kisses on the cheek for everything he had put together for you, you definitely owed him.
Finally, there was just Bucky left. Everyone had gone outside to wait for the cars to get pulled around. You looked up, just taking him in, and smiled the most genuine smile you could make.
“Am I going to see you again, Sarge?”
He blushed at your nickname for him.
“Of course. I mean, only if you want to.”
“Of course I want to, I had a great time tonight with you.”
If he could get any redder, he did.
“So did I…” he suddenly felt a surge of courage. “How about I take you out to dinner. Tomorrow, 6:00?”
“I would love that, Bucky. It’s a date.”
It was silent for a moment as you both stared into each other’s eyes. If there was ever a real-life romance novel moment, this was it. You decided to go for it, reached up your hands, and pulled his face down to meet yours. The kiss was the most incredible thing you had experienced with someone. It was as if the whole world had stopped spinning and froze in time. You had expected him to be rough and dominant, but his lips were so gentle and soft on yours. He took his time with you, as if he was relishing every second. You finally had to pull away and gasp for air.
“Wow…” was all you could say.
“I agree” whispered Bucky.
Not surprising either of you, your magical moment was cut short by Tony popping his head back into the restaurant and yelling out, “You’re welcome!”
You just laughed and held each other in a tight embrace. Good thing there would be a lifetime more of those moments to come.

It Happened in a Speakeasy
Pairings: Bucky Barnes x Reader
Warnings: Slight language
Word Count: 1500
Summary: You work as a bartender in a modern-day Speakeasy in NYC. Bucky comes into your bar one night, and is immediately drawn to you. What happens when he needs your advice?
Tumblr media
It was just like any other Friday night; the bar was full and you were up to your neck in orders from hundreds of people wanting to get wasted. Your reputation proceeds you, people come from all over New York City to your speakeasy themed bar to taste the amazing drinks you whip up and to live a night in the 1920’s, in the age of Prohibition. You had always loved that decade; the fashion was incredible, the music was jazzy and alive, and people are always turned on by doing something they shouldn’t be.
You loved being a bartender; you met so many people from all over the world visiting New York, and you were well known for serving up good advice along with your drinks. You adored learning about the citizens who resided in your favorite city. Unbeknownst to you, tonight you would meet someone who would change your life forever.
You didn’t notice him at first, you were so busy tending to everyone else in the place. He had been sitting in the corner of the room for about 20 minutes, slouched over with his face hidden under a dark hood and baseball cap. But he had noticed you as soon as he sat down. He decided to wait to get a drink, and watched you for a bit instead.
You automatically drew his eyes to you, there was something so familiar and comforting about you. Maybe it was the way your smile shone when you talked to your usual customers, maybe it was how you leaned over the bar to fully listen to them. Maybe it was how you so effortlessly flipped the bottles and mixed the drinks, while never breaking eye contact with the person you were talking to. He noticed how you always tilted your head back when you laughed, and how you liked you do little dance moves to the music as you moved around the bar. He even found himself smiling to himself when you started singing along when your favorite song came on.
He finally ordered a beer from the waitress, and continued to sit and watch you for what felt like no time at all, but was actually a couple hours.
You first noticed him around 3 am, when the bar was starting to slow down. You didn’t know it, but he had been watching you for two hours already. You were slightly confused; he was wearing dark and very casual clothes with a low baseball cap, you couldn’t even see his face. Not the usual type that came into your place. But you were intrigued. He looked sad, all slumped over and alone. You felt a type of motherly instinct, like you needed to help him. You didn’t realize it, but you were seriously staring at this lost man.
He finished his tenth beer of the night, still completely sober. “One of the ‘perks’ of being a super solider”, he thought to himself.  He wished he could get buzzed and escape from his life for a while, maybe then he could gather to courage to go talk to you. He figured you’d never want anything to do with him if you knew who he was, he was nothing but pain and darkness. And your light shined so bright, even in this dark bar. He didn’t want to contaminate you and dull your shine.
But still, he couldn’t help but stand and start walking over to you when he looked up for the hundredth time that night and saw you staring right back at him, with a strange look of curiosity on your face.
You don’t know why, but you started panicking and quickly hurried yourself with cleaning glasses. You avoided looking at him until he reached the bar and took a seat. You already felt a blush creeping up your cheeks. “What is happening to me?” you thought. “He’s just another customer. Handsome men come in here all the time.”
“What can I get for ya, stud” you bravely asked the man. “Stud?? What the hell Y/N” you thought.
The man let out a low chuckle before lifting his eyes to meet yours. “I’ll have another Guinness, doll.”
Your heart fluttered when you heard the nickname he used for you. You couldn’t believe how gorgeous his piercing blue eyes were, you got lost in them. It felt like a lifetime had gone by before you realized what he ordered and proceeded to quickly pour him a glass.
“Thanks,” he muttered as you passed him the drink. “I didn’t catch your name.” He said it in a casual manner, but you heard a hint of nervousness in his husky voice.
“Y/N,” you replied. “I own this place. But I haven’t seen you around here before, this your first time?”
“Yeah”, admitted the man. “I was wandering around the streets, looking for something to distract me, when I heard the music coming from your doors. I haven’t heard this type of rhythm in long time doll. I had to check it out.”
And then realization washed over you, it was him, the Winter Soldier. That’s why he was alone and hiding his face, he didn’t want to be recognized. You suddenly pitied the old man, you had read all about him and his tragic life. No wonder he was looking for a distraction. You didn’t want to let him know you knew who he was, he probably needed a night away from being famous and judged.
So you decided to do what you normally would do in that situation, “Want to talk about it? I’ve been said to give great advice.”
The man, whom you now know as being named Bucky, sat for a moment, thinking.
“Yeah”, he finally let out. “I feel like I can trust you.”
Your face lit up in one of those beautiful smiles Bucky had come to adore. “Great! So, what troubles you today, Soldier.”
Bucky was so excited and relieved to finally be having a normal conversation with a lovely woman, he didn’t even realize you had accidentally called him Soldier. He proceeded to subtly tell you about his life; how he was distanced from all his family and friends, and when he finally came back in contact with them, how he was a messed-up guy and almost ruined his chance at a normal life with them. He told you about how he had hurt people because of his job, and broke a part families. He told you he was from the city, but now he feels like he doesn’t fit in anymore. But the thing that caught your attention the most, was that he admitted he was lonely. He had friends, but he didn’t feel like he could trust them all or open up to them.
That boke your heart. You obviously knew he was talking about the Avengers, but you couldn’t let him know that. You patiently sat and listened to him spill his heart to you. I doubted anyone, including Steve, had ever seen him this vulnerable. All you wanted to do was hold him and tell him it would be okay, that everything would work out for him in the end. Of course you didn’t know that for sure, but you could tell that deep down, Bucky was just a broken man who needed real love in his life.
At the end of Bucky’s rant, he let out a deep sigh and buried his face in his hands.
“You probably think I’m a pathetic loser, right.”
“That couldn’t be farther from the truth. It sounds like you have been through hell and back, and I’m surprised you’re holding it together as it is. I give you props for sticking it out and trying to better yourself.”
At this point, you couldn’t help yourself. You reached across the bar and held his hands in your own. Although he was wearing gloves, and you knew why, his hands radiated warmth, and he immediately squeezed yours back.
“No matter what shitty things you’ve done in the past, that’s all it is, the past. There’s nothing you can do to change it, so you should just accept who you are and use it to make yourself a better person. You already are a better man, if you’re feeling guilt.”
Bucky just stared into your eyes, with a look on his face as if he was wondering why you were being so kind to him.
“Thank you, doll” he finally whispered. “I don’t have very many people who I can talk to about this, I owe you one.”
“How about you take me out tomorrow night?”
“W-what?” Bucky stammered. He was shocked that you would ever want to see him again after everything he had told you, and that wasn’t even the half of it.
“Look, Bucky”, you said. “I know who you are. I know a lot about you and what you’ve been through. I don’t want to go out with you because I pity you or because you’re famous, I want to spend time with you because I want to understand you. I want to be there for you when no one else is. You’ve really surprised me tonight Buck, and I want to continue to get to know you.”
Bucky took in everything you said, and he just smiled and nodded. It had been so long since someone genuinely cared about him, he wasn’t going to let you go that easily.
And he didn’t, he never did.

Love Is Trending
Pairings: Bucky x Reader
Warnings: Some language
Word Count: 3,000
Summary: You work for the Avengers as their social media consultant and love them all individually, but you can’t seem to connect with the one man you long for, Bucky. Will he ever need your help or bond with you?
Author’s Note: This is my first fanfic! I have been a fan of reading other people’s work for a long time, and i thought it was time for me to give it a go. This story takes place after the events of Civil War, in a universe where Steve and his team have made up with Tony and the others, and they’re all living happily ever after in the Avengers Tower. Hope you enjoy! (gif is not mine)
Tumblr media
The Avengers are capable of many things, and are especially talented at tasks that involve saving the world. They all have unique abilities and personalities that make each of them different assets to the team, but they do all have one thing in common, they all suck at communicating with said world they tend to save. The Avengers are some of the kindest and most caring people in the universe, but they have a tendency to be extremely uncomfortable in the public eye, except for Tony Stark of course.
That’s where you come in. You were hired a few months after the incident with the Sokovian Accords to represent the Avengers as their agent of sorts. You were to monitor and support their online presence, and help them with public appearances. The Avengers have very big reputations held around the world; most see them as good, hard working individuals, but there are those who are scared of their capabilities and don’t realize that they are people with feelings as well. Pepper hired you to basically create social media accounts for each of the team members who agreed, and to help them post, share and expand their online lives as well as encourage them to make appearances in public with fans and other public figures.
Most of the team was down to try this new form of communication with the world, Tony pretty much had them convinced that it would lead to the world seeing the Avengers in a better light; less menacing and destructing, and more helpful and caring. There was just one person who was against the idea of having his life displayed on the internet for the world to see, and that was Bucky.
You can’t say you blame him; he hasn’t been in this new age of technology for very long, and he still is having a hard time with his past and accepting who he is. While you’re not surprised he didn’t want your assistance or anything to do with you really, you can’t say you’re not disappointed. From the moment you saw him standing in Steve’s shadow, you’ve been fairly intrigued with him. Sure Bucky is incredibly tall, dark and handsome, but he also gives off the vibe of a lost puppy, like you just want to hold him and tell him everything will be okay.
In those first moments when Pepper introduced you to the team, something blossomed in you. You were incredibly excited to be working with some of the most famous people in the nine realms, but you were extremely looking forward to working with Bucky. He was so quiet and still, yet polite in the subtlest way. You wish you could say that when he looked into your eyes and said hello, sparks flew and you could both feel the chemistry between you, but he didn’t raise his eyes once in the time he was being introduced.
You guessed you weren’t surprised, you had been warned that he wasn’t quite up to meeting even more new people, he had only been on the compound for a couple months. You had a feeling that it was going to take Bucky a long time to come around, he had been through so much and you were a complete stranger to him. But you were willing to wait for as long as it took.
It’s been five months since you’ve joined the Avengers’ world, and you can honestly say this has been some of the best few months of your life. The whole team has been so caring and kind to you, and you consider some of them to be your best friends. You had moved into the Avengers Tower right away, to more fully experience the lives of the team members and learn more about them. All of them have taken you under their wings and have (almost) completely opened up to you, which has helped a lot with your job. All of them except for Bucky that is.
Wanda has quickly become one of the best friends you’ve ever had. You think she has taken to the whole social media aspect of her life the best. She is constantly posting selfies with Vision on her snapchat, and her fans have recently started shipping them together, much to her embarrassment. Vision isn’t much of a sharer, but he does love to post photos of nature on his Instagram you set up. You think it reminds him of simpler times when the world was much less chaotic.
Clint is a huge fan of social media now, his most recent post was a photo of his little son trying out his bow and arrow for the first time! He got some backlash from some concerned mothers, but you think it’s really nice for the world to see that the Avengers are capable of having normal families and experiencing love too. And then there’s Sam. That boy will be the end to your career. Sam had a fairly normal life before he joined the Avengers so he wasn’t a stranger to social media, but that doesn’t mean he’s any good at it. It’s been on multiple occasions now that you’ve had to issue public apologies for an accidentally shared dick pic to his snapchat story, as opposed to being sent to a (hopefully) interested, single girl.
Steve has surprisingly adapted to this new technology very quickly, he truly is a very smart man. Facebook is his favorite because even though his old friends from before he went into the ice are almost 100 years old, a few of them had Facebooks that were set up by their younger family members, and he actually was able to meet up with a couple of them. The first time he had found one of his former Hollowing Commandos was a day you will never forget. You were sitting on the opposite end of the couch from him, when all of a sudden he jumps up and yells, “Holy Hell!” You knew it had to be something big if Steve had used such vulgar language. Bucky even went with Steve to meet up with this man, their former teammate.
That was the first time you had seen Bucky truly happy. The first couple of months you had been at the Tower, Bucky hadn’t talked much. He would ask you to pass the salt or sit with you while you watched Netflix in the common room, but he didn’t engage in any deep conversations like you were hoping for. Even still, you were willing to wait.
But after that experience with Steve and their old friend, Bucky began to seek you out around the Tower and ask you questions, mostly about technology and how to use it. Tony had bought him an iPhone, so he had the capability to use social media and the internet, it was just the fact of whether he wanted to or not.
One night, he approached you after dinner while you were helping Natasha choose a photo of her and Clint’s daughter to post. He sat next to you and just watched for a while. He tended to do that, just sit in silence and observe people with his piercing blue eyes. You have to admit, it gives you butterflies every time.
After Natasha left, he scooted closer to you, looking quite nervous. You’re sure you probably looked the same; you couldn’t help it, he smelled like a mixture of vanilla and something manly, something all his own. It was intoxicating. He turned to you and in the quietest and most heartbreaking voice he could muster, asked if you could help him set up a social media account or two.
You had never been so excited, and you’re sure your face showed it. “Of course! What kind of account would you like?” you asked. “Something photo based, something for connecting with old friends, something to just write your thoughts and rant?” Nowadays, there are so many different sites for every type of need or desire.
“Well Steve seems to really enjoy that one website where he found some of our old friends, the one with the book” Bucky replied. You let out a small giggle, “It’s called Facebook, people from all around the world use it. You can share photos, videos, or your thoughts on the day. You can even get the news and all the hottest gossip on there, not that you seem like much of a gossiper.”
“That sounds good; I don’t want to share much about myself, but I’d like to see what my old friends and their families are up to. What other sites are there?”
You proceeded to tell Bucky all about your favorite sites like Instagram, Snapchat, Tumblr and Pinterest. You sat for what felt like hours, laughing and looking over the other team member’s profiles. He really opened up, telling you about the old friends he wanted to see and the activities he was interested in. You had no idea that he was into art, but when you came across a fan page who sketched him and the rest of the Avengers among other celebrities, he got so excited to see someone take their time to honor him that way. It felt so comfortable, just sitting with him and taking in every second. It was all you could from running your fingers through his long, unkempt hair like you had been itching to do since the moment you saw him. You finally decided to show him your Instagram, and that’s when things got strange.
It was completely silent for about five minutes while he scrolled through your photos, taking the time to read each individual caption. It would have been fine, if there wasn’t a big frown etched into Bucky’s face. The brilliant sparkle that had appeared in his eyes during your talk had gone away, leaving you confused as to what went wrong.
He finally finished, locked your phone, and handed it back to you. You’re sure you must have looked worried as Bucky stood, thanked you for the help, and proceeded to leave the room, and you, in the dark.
Three days had gone by without so much as a glance from Bucky. It was like he was purposefully avoiding you. You didn’t understand, he had just started opening up to and spending time with you. You couldn’t figure out what you had done wrong, you thought there was a real connection that night. You decided to go to Steve for advice, if anyone was to know what was going on, it was him right?
You approached Steve that night after Bucky had quickly gone to bed and asked him if he had noticed anything different about Bucky lately.
“Now that you mention it Y/N, he was doing really well for the past couple of weeks. I often saw him with a smile on his face for no reason and talking more to everyone. I don’t know why, but now that I think about it, the past couple of days he has been back to his usual brooding self. Do you know why?”
“Unfortunately, I was hoping you did.” you replied back. “A few days ago, Bucky came up to me and asked if I would help him set up some accounts online for him. We spent a couple hours just talking and having a really great time, it was almost as if the Winter Soldier never even existed, he was just a great guy. But then he randomly just got up and left, and now he won’t even look at me. I don’t get it Steve, I really thought we were making progress.” Tears started welling up in your eyes as you finished talking.
“Y/N whoa whoa, it’s okay, don’t cry.” Steve quickly hugged you close to him. He considered you to be one of his closest friends, and he hated to see you upset. He had suspected you had feelings for Bucky for quite a while, but he never prodded into it, instead he opted to wait until you were ready to open up to him about it.
“I can’t think of anything I said that might have turned him off from me,” you sniffled. “He grew quiet and almost sad-looking while he was looking through my Instagram, and then he just left”.
“Was there maybe something on your Instagram that could have made him upset?”
“Not that I can think of. All my posts are just of my travels, friends and family. I don’t think there’s anything offensive. Steve, I don’t know what to do. I really like Bucky, like more than a friend. I thought I finally had a shot…”
“Y/N, maybe you should just talk to him about it? I’ve known Bucky for a long time, and he’s more likely to say what’s wrong if you approach him about it instead of letting it lay there.”
“You’re probably right Steve, I’ve waited this long for my shot, I’m not going to let him slip away. Thanks, Capsicle.” Steve cringed as you laughed and walked away to plan what you would say to Bucky.
You found him the next morning in the training room, murdering his third punching bag of the day. He was so concentrated on his workout, he didn’t hear you open the door. You stood there for a while, just watching how his muscles stretched and glistened with sweat. His metal arm was a blur of shine as he beat the bag, over and over, as if he was letting out all the stress from his whole lifetime. You briefly forgot your mission as you stared in awe at how incredibly attractive he was.
And then the bag let out a huge rip and spilled beans all over the floor of the gym, and you immediately snapped back to your senses. Bucky let out a defeated sigh before he turned and saw you still standing in the doorway.
“I was just finishing. You can have the room” he quickly muttered and looked away, he couldn’t even say your name.
“Actually Buck, I came to talk to you” you decided to cut right to the chase. “Why have you been avoiding me the past few days?”
“I don’t know what you mean. I have to get going.” Bucky tried to push past you into the hall.
“Oh no you don’t.” You held your arm out and pushed him back with such force, it surprised you both. “We’re going to talk about this. I know you’ve been avoiding me, you can’t even look at me. Why? I thought we had a really good time the other night.”
Bucky just stared at the floor. Was he purposefully trying to piss you off even more?
“Jesus Buck, was it something I said, did I offend you? I can’t make this right until you tell me what’s wrong.”
He raised his eyes to sheepishly look at you, but still, Bucky was silent.
“Fuck Bucky, are you really going to make me say this? I like you okay! I’ve been waiting months for you to open up to me, to want to talk to me. And then we finally have a great time together, or so I thought, and then you just get up and walk away like nothing happened!” you let out in one, fast breath.
Silence falls for a moment, you refusing to say another word until he does.
After what seems like an eternity of awkwardness, Bucky lets out a deep sigh and opens his mouth to speak.
“I had no idea you felt that way about me. I thought you were friendly to everyone, I didn’t think anyone could like me after everything I’ve done. When I was looking through your Instagram, I saw all your friends and family, all the amazing places you’ve travelled and all the people you’ve met. It was filled with smiles and adventure, and you were surrounded by people who made you look like the happiest and most beautiful woman on the planet. I got sad because although I wanted to, I didn’t think I could ever make you feel that happy or put that dazzling smile on your face. I thought by distancing myself, I could keep my negativity and darkness away from your light. I- I love you, I love everything about you, but it’s for the best Y/N.”
You stood there, stunned, not knowing what to say. You finally gave him a soft smile and wrapped your arms around his thick torso in the most comforting hug you’ve ever had.
“Bucky,” you breathed into his chest. “You’re what makes me happy. I wake up happy everyday knowing that I get to see you. The best part of my day is sitting with you watching TV or helping you make dinner. We don’t even have to be speaking, and you still make my heart sing. From the first day I saw you, I knew I wanted you. I don’t care if you come with troubles and insecurities, that’s part of you and I love you for it. There’s no getting rid of me, Barnes.”
He was quiet for a moment while you continued to hug him, hoping that he’d finally realize that you would always be there for him, to put a smile on his face. Finally, he lifted your chin up to so that your eyes met his. You just stared at each other in what felt like the most peaceful quiet that has ever occurred, before he locked his lips onto yours in such a loving and vulnerable way, as if he completely surrendered himself to you. You smiled against his lips, which caused him to smile onto yours.
“See?” you broke away, breathless. “You can make me smile.”
“I guess I can,” Bucky chuckled. “You better get used to it, because I’m not going anywhere now.”
You had waited for what felt like a lifetime for this moment, but for forever with Bucky? It was all worth it.
