Writeblr (Re)Introduction

Hello lovely people of tumblr! It's been a very long time since I've been consistently active on here, with a lot of things happening in my life that've kept me from posting regularly (turns out vet school is a lot of fun but a lot of work)

So I've decided to reintroduce myself and my current projects because I'm sure there's a lot of new people in the community by now.

My name is Atlas, I'm a 23 year old nonbinary person from Australia and I've been writing ever since I was little. My current WIP is Far From the Tree, the first in a series of books that follows the adventures of a fallen angel and an ancient demon as they try to navigate their blossoming relationship while also trying to stop hell from dying. It's got fantasy, magic, a lot of LGBTQ+ rep (said angel and demon are both women, plus many other queer characters throughout).

Previously I've worked on a standalone Australian zombie apocalypse novel called Rabid, which I plan to edit later this year in preparation for publishing. I also wrote a novel called Gaslight for NaNoWriMo two (I think) years ago, though it needs significant redrafting and I'm not currently working on it.

Feel free to message me to talk about my WIPs, your WIPs, or to ask for a shoutout on my page. I love doing tag games so if you tag me I'll most definitely respond. For now I plan to share excerpts of Far From the Tree as well as some character studies and moodboards.

CORRUPTION // FAR FROM THE TREE

Corruption might seem like the goal of hell, but it's never been so cut and dry. Hell might be a place to torture sinners, but these days even that comes secondary to keeping the hordes of demons trapped down here fed and alive.

Which makes the corruption of the acquisitions field all the more worrying.

Cynthia steps up, calming her spirit. She needs all her strength for this. The field reaches out as soon as she gets close enough, the heat coming off of it scorching even for hell. Cynthia’s never been a spirit specialist, but she’s old and powerful and she’s one of the few demons in hell that can fix this.

The field calls to her and she lets it in, entwining her spirit with it. The corruption doesn’t burn, not her, she was born from corruption and disgrace.

It is uncomfortable though, a definite wrongness about it. Cynthia works her magic into the field’s, taking its corruption into herself. She’ll heal, eventually. As she takes more and more of the corruption her form slips, becoming more demonic by the second. She raises taller, her eyes blaze, her hair slowly turns to a mane of shaggy black.

When it’s done she doesn’t turn around. The demons will be looking at her, and they don’t need to see her true form. Nobody does. Dagon yells, orders them back to work, but their stares linger.

Let them stare, part of her whispers. The part that she buries every single day, the part that fights to return to circle nine. The part that wants to watch everyone and everything burn.

I’ve just discovered that nameberry will suggest similar names to the one you’re looking at, which is very useful if you’re trying to name a whole bunch of fantasy characters and want their names to be in the same vein

Round 15?

Does anyone want to submit their characters so I can chuck them into a Hunger Games simulator where they will face almost certain doom (or will they?) with other writeblrs’s characters who can become friends or foes? Complete with optional Hunger Games AU prompts!

That’s right! Another round of the Writeblr Hunger Games is going to happen! Except with one slight change. Since it is a busy time for the original Master of Ceremonies (@ratracechronicler), the torch will be passed on to a new Master of Ceremonies for one round: @concealeddarkness13! I know it won’t be the same, but I am excited to host this round! 

Here is an explanation of the basic format: writers submit their characters as potential candidates. Those characters are put into the Brant Steele Hunger Games Simulator, and I will share the results. 

About this round: Since this is my first time hosting a WHG, I’m not planning on any special themes for this round. It will be a normal Hunger Games!

Please do not submit any characters yet. This post is just to see how much interest there would be for a new WHG. If enough people are interested, I’ll explain more of the details in a later post, and I’ll tag those who are interested. Replying to this post is not a requirement for submission.
