“I think you have a certain level of responsibility to ‘man-up’ so to speak. Fatherhood or parenthood is ultimately the most selfless act you can participate in, so in order to be selfless you have to be healthy-minded and healthy-spirited in order to focus in wholly on this other person and making them happy and safer. So you’re forced into ironing out any kinks. That’s certainly the way I’m approaching parenthood. I’m not sure if it’s the right way, it’s just my way.”

“They want me to get a cell phone so they can hunt me down but I won’t do that. I don’t like cell phones— they kill moments. When I’m with my friends and I’m not working, we’ll all be sitting around talking and everyone’s relaxed and then all of a sudden it’s like, brring brring. And everyone sits back while someone answers their phone. It just kills the moment, absolutely just shatters it. And I can’t afford to lose those moments— I enjoy them too much.”

Heath Ledger with his favorite ‘Hooker’ tee, and in flip-flops, out and about, Summer 2007, while filming ‘The Dark Knight’.
(Notice the green on his hair because of the Joker. The t-shirt actually is a tribute to the Jazz legend John Lee Hooker and his ‘Boogie Chillen’ album.)

“I'd been concentrating on how to act, not how to be a salesman. Agents, publicists – they all say, ‘Go out and create a character!’. I don't want to create a fucking character, but on the same hand I don't want to give myself, either. When you don't go on Letterman and say, ‘Hey! I've got a joke!’ – when you sit there honest and nervous and like a normal human being, you get written down as boring and ungrateful.” [★]
