#Reflection 04/04/2020 #Gospel & #Gratitude To all: It's amazing how "providential" today's Gospel according to Matthew (yup the long form) is for how I feel today. (I shall post it in full below in comments because of length) Much if it mirrors what Mom must have felt or experienced during our odyssey together, yet even while at home for 2 months on hospice, she never ever stopped teaching, loving, and reassuring me (and all of us) on how to face the inevitable with dignity & with faith. She was my angelface, and is now my angel. 🙏😢 Tonight from 6-7pm EDT, my TSC PKP friend/brother Kahlil V. Gunther is doing a FB live piano concert with a special dedication to Mom near the end. Please tune in then or listen later.🎹 @kahlilgunther At sunset tonight, which is 724pm (when she passed), please say a prayer or raise a toast to her; know how eternally grateful and humbled by your caring and loving of her and of me then, now, and always. 🍷 I thank Father Doctor Garry Koch, my former Christian Brothers Academy religion teacher now pastor at St. Benedict Church and School in Holmdel, NJ, for not only sharing this today, but also coming to anoint Mom at our home, comforting Jennifer and me, and most of all, giving Mom a proper and dignified memorial service at her wake and wise words at her funeral at St Jerome's Catholic Church in West Long Branch, NJ. ✝️ @cbalincroft @garrykoch @stbensholmdel I could not ask for better people who are chosen family who have texted, called, emailed, and reached out via social media yesterday, today, and always, to reassure me that I am not alone in this world... #TBT #MADALYN at my sister @Jennifer_Farischon's wedding July 15, 2005. Mom didn't want to wear a typical #MotherOfTheBride dress, so she/Jen found this stunning sleeveless gown. Mom ate "🥚whites and 🍎🍏" for 2 weeks before the wedding because she said she wanted to be #SSSmokin'‼️🤣 (like @jimcarrey_ in #TheMask)🎭 You were and always will be radiant, my sunshine, my best friend, my travel buddy, my co-pilot, my Mama. Saturday April 4th will be 2 years since you slipped away at sunset while Jennifer and I held your hands, Mom. You were in your recliner, surrounded by our prayers, songs and tears. You were tired. We said it was OK to go to be with Aunt Lucille and Grandma Mary and Grandpa Rocco. Today, more than ever, I pray to all of you for strength courage and wisdom to watch over our family. It was the most surreal event of my lifetime; I was/am grateful to so many who tried their very best to not only save you but to also give you comfort when you needed it most. I will never forget the pain of that moment you left us, but I will always be grateful to God that He blessed me by making you my mother! To everyone who prayed, donated, called, operated, visited, fed, worked with, and gave us support and love and faith, I can never repay you all. I can only try to pay it forward. It was the fight of our lifetime, a journey I wish we never had to take, but I am beyond honored and privileged to have never EVer left your side. You taught me so much and even now you still have presence in my thoughts, words, and deeds. CALL to check on y/our elders, be they family, neighbors, coworkers, vets, disabled, & especially our #ALUMNI! HELP #caregivers of those who need aid. A human voice helps so much, even a 1 min vm or 2 min "I just called to see if you needed anything". Texts don't give comfort. Video chat! 2. FOCUS: Our grandparents and greatgrandparents survived during 2 world wars, the #GreatDepression, sacrificed/collaborated to survive. PLAN! I ASK ALL NOW during #covid19 #coronavirus pandemic Write/type/audio/video y/our history, (fraternal or family), scan/post pics, reach out to those whom you have lost touch with. #Forgive! Reflection: 03/19/2020 Rebirth and renewal are the normal signs of spring...today, however, feels as if those qualities may be gone forever. I take solace in my relative solitude because I had to do it as a caregiver & can do it now to help others virtually get through this dark time in our 🌎 #TBT: 2012 #FirstDayOfSpring: my mother, Madalyn Hammer (1942-2018) #SandyHookLighthouse at @GatewayNPS #NJ. Mom loved the breezes, the views of the natural beauty on the beach (but NOT Gunnison 🤣🍆🍑🤣)‼️ On that day, we walked in silence, listening to the birds, absorbing the solemnity of all the buildings at the adjacent #FortHancock. Mom (and I) want/ed to see all of the historic #OfficersRow houses preserved...she also wanted to make one of them a respite home for veterans and active duty military and their families who suffered from #PTSD) ♥️ I hope one day the miniature city will come back to life. We used to go to the @NJSeaGrantConsortium HQ OpenHouse on the Hook every May; we were fascinated by the research @NOAA did & the variety of organizations who had tables and booths and resources for children. We loved the touch tanks and the aquariums which showcased the local aquatic life. It's impossible to overstate the economic impacts that the quality of water and managing catch limits has to allow #RaritanBay / #SandyHookBay & the #TwoRivers region to survive/thrive for commercial fishermen, boaters and anglers, birdwatchers, and tourists. I share all this through my historic #rosecoloredglasses tint to recall a simpler time when the 1st day of spring meant for us to get outside and enjoy life...(and yes 🍋 @strolloslighthouse homemade #ItalianIce on the way home...) ♥️ Mom, I pray to you & to all our loved ones with you 🙏: PLEASE continue to watch over us all, especially the elderly, those afflicted by #cancer, those who are isolated, or feel hopeless. You made me a stronger man by giving me #strengthcourageandwisdom to carry us through our journey. I miss my co-pilot and class trip buddy.
