Hex Positive, Ep. 044 – THE LAST WITCH with Annika Hylmö

Nope, you're not seeing double - you're getting two episodes in one week!

Bree is joined in the virtual studio by Annika Hylmö, documentarian and director of the forthcoming documentary THE LAST WITCH. The film tells the story of a Massachusetts middle school Civics class and their campaign to secure exoneration for the last unpardoned victim of the Salem witch trials, Elizabeth Johnson Jr. It’s a poignant story about history, connection, and why seeking justice matters, even when it comes three hundred years late. Also discussed are the historical circumstances surrounding the Salem witch panic and how the twin specters of bullying and rumor-mongering haunt our communities today just as much as they did in 1692.

Quick Podcaster PSA -

There's been a recent uptick in "bad ads" - that is, automated ads that seem out of place for the shows on which they air. UPDATE -

Okay, so I fully meant to get this episode done and out by today, but we had a small medical crisis with Producer Penny. Her chronic respiratory issues flared up worse than we've ever seen them and we wound up making three visits to the clinic inside of a week.

The good news is, they finally found the source of the problem. The bad news is, it was a MASSIVE nasal polyp. The good news is, they were able to remove it easily with a quick outpatient procedure, and Penny is now home and happy and stoned out of her fuzzy little gourd. She's resting comfortably and drinking water without snort or choking for the first time in YEARS, so it's already a huge improvement.

All this said, I still intended to try and produce the episode by the end of the month, and there's one ready to release on the first of the month as usual. So there may be a double episode drop in early March.

February Episode Delay & Shop Update

Hello, witches!

Just a quick note about the upcoming February episode. I had about a week of lost productivity time this month due to a broken laptop. It's since been repaired, but now I'm behind in my writing and the Shopify launch work, and we're having family visit this weekend, which is when I would normally do my recording. So there's going to be a slight delay in the February episode release.

Where episodes normally drop on the 1st of the month, this one will be released sometime in the second week of February. Patreon subscribers will still get the early-bird version without ads, and I may release a Witch Ways minisode just to tide things over.

Here's a quick hint for the main episode topic:

The Willow Wings Witch Shop is moving to Shopify next month as well, with a target launch date of February 10th. The lunar new year seems like an auspicious date for a fresh start. I'm going to be including most of the items from the current shop listings as well as some new merch, with more planned for future updates. My hope is to eventually be able to offer ready-made charms, some specialty craft supplies, purpose-built spell kits, accessories, and the occasional seasonal special.

Further updates as events warrant! Thank you for your patience in the meantime!
