conversation when a person realizes i like the addams family and asks my opinion on wednesday (2022) and i have to pretend that i’ve not been hyperfixated on the show for over a year

like i didn’t spend the november before last talking to my cousins about how excited i was for the show to come out, how i was already shipping wenclair based off of promo pics

like i didn’t spend the entire couple hours of prep before thanksgiving dinner this year explaining to my aunt the discrepancies between each adaptation and the edgar allen poe references throughout the show

like i don’t have an entire tumblr fanpage dedicated to the show….

like i don’t send my best friend multiple voice messages a day just yapping on and on about random things that are wednesday related

i have been asked this question three times i think

y’all… let’s talk about the gay tension in this scene PLEASE. wednesday letting enid grab her arm and drag her LITERALLY wherever tf she wanted, enid staring at wednesday’s lips with that fucking oh-my-god-i’m-so-attracted-to-you lesbian ass look, both of them about to fucking STEP ON EACH OTHER WITH HOW CLOSE THEY’RE WALKING-

also it makes me so soft to think about even though enid was celebrating, she immediately realized wednesday’s absence and went to find her. there’s something so gay about that, like. she just wants to be with her pretty roomie all the time, so what if she’s planning their wedding in her head?? so WHAT if all she can do is stare like 0_0 at her lips and think about kissing the mess out of her??? she literally can’t help it. not her fault she’s a raging queer.

and then there’s this…

wednesday isn’t even subtle, she wants to kiss. so bad. and those EYES? my gOD SHE’S ACTUALLY IN LOVE. AND THE WAY SHE WATCHES HER LEAVE?? WENS YOU’RE A HOMO, BABE. A 🗣️HOMO. also her saying that she’ll think about hanging out with enid and her friends because she’s fucking SOFT for enid and she’s willing to try uncomfortable things for her and she doesn’t want to hurt her feelings by saying no because she CARES. WEDNESDAY ADDAMS CARES ABOUT ENID SINCLAIR AND I WON’T SHUT UP ABOUT IT. TRY AND MAKE ME.

you know what makes enid such a lovable character? she’s deceptively complex, and the specifics make her so fucking precious. LET ME PROVE MY THESIS.

when enid is first introduced in the show, we might be inclined to think that she’s merely a shallow representation of the polar opposite of wednesday—colorful, peppy, social, loud. but she’s so much more than just wednesday’s antithesis. and you see that from their very first interaction.

enid, clearly excited and optimistic about meeting her new roommate, rushes up to greet her with a huge smile and outstretched arms (already, a sign of her kindness). but the very second she realizes wednesday doesn’t want to reciprocate, she holds off. this might not seem like a big thing, but it’s extremely telling. for one, it shows us that before everything, enid respects wednesday’s boundaries. wednesday, who she doesn’t even know yet. and she continues to honor wednesday’s disinclination to hugs, repeatedly, until the final scene. it also indicates that she’s not ditsy or cluelessly abrasive like some other characters who share her disposition. enid is genuinely, thoroughly kind, and it’s striking.

however, as the scene continues and enid gives wednesday a tour of nevermore, it becomes clear that even though she is kind, she isn’t a one-dimensional people-pleaser. she doesn’t hesitate to give wednesday’s attitude right back to her. like when wednesday expresses annoyance over the name of the quad and enid tells her that “the whole snarky, goth-girl thing might’ve worked at normie school, but here, things are different,” and when wednesday shows disinterest in “participating in tribal adolescent cliches,” enid tells her to “use it to fill your obviously bottomless pit of disdain.” is enid sweet? yes. and is she (not so) subtly trying to impress her cute brunette roomie with her knowledge and interests? also yes. but what she’s not about to do is let wednesday sass her without matching her energy. it’s almost a playful kind of banter (i would say borderline flirtatious), and it’s one of the reasons wednesday is instantly drawn to her; enid isn’t afraid of her, or uncomfortable around her, or put off by her unfriendliness; instead, she’s able to interact with her in a way that keeps wednesday on her toes. this, combined with the way enid continuously respects her boundaries, is a dichotomy that wednesday finds irresistible, and it’s why she can’t not treat enid differently than everyone else. and it’s a big reason why she falls for her.

enid’s complexity only deepens when we discover that she can’t wolf out. we find out that she’s terrified of being alone, and as we get to family weekend, we see the dysfunctional dynamic she has with her parents. it becomes apparent that enid herself is a dichotomy; she presents herself to her peers as confident and bubbly and full of optimism, but the second she’s alone with her family, we see a glimpse of her truest self, who she is behind the mask—weary, sad, almost demure, responding to her mother’s criticism with a tired kind of acquiescence, “that’s me, a huge disappointment.” enid isn’t at all what we might have initially thought her to be, and to see her deal with not measuring up to her family’s standards makes her all the more authentic and relatable.

considering all of this, enid’s duplicity contextualizes her delicacy with wednesday in a way that is uniquely captivating. because enid has every reason to close herself off to other people, especially to her roommate who doesn’t even seem to like her, but she doesn’t. in fact, she goes above and beyond trying to befriend her—promising to keep her secret about nero, seeing her off with tyler at the harvesting festival, inviting her to multiple social events, expressing an interest in “bonding” when she took her dress shopping, organizing a birthday surprise for her, knitting her a snood in her signature colors, and even pulling one over on weems so that they could have a girl’s night out. so when she finds out that wednesday has deceived her, she’s rightfully upset and extremely hurt. during the fight scene, all of this comes out, and for the audience—much like for wednesday—enid’s anger is pain-inducing. we see the strength of her vulnerability in that moment, we see her reach the end of her rope, as it were, because deep down enid is just plain exhausted. and that’s what makes her really real. i see the humanity in her so clearly, and it makes me want to cry. it makes me want to reach through the screen and comfort her like wednesday couldn’t in that moment.

but as we know, enid comes back for wednesday. why? because even after everything, even after the betrayal and the snide remarks and the silence, she still wants to take care of wednesday. she still wants to be there for her, to protect her and be her friend. without waiting for an apology from the person who wronged her, she came back. and if that doesn’t make you love enid sinclair with all of your heart, nothing will.

this is one of my favorite scenes, particularly because of the subtleties. it’s obvious by wednesday’s body language (look at the softness in her eyes, the way she almost blinks, her conflicted look) that she’s not put off by enid’s attempt to hug her. rather, she steps back merely out of reflex, even hesitating a little (she nearly jerks forward) like she wants to change her mind. and then there’s the moment immediately afterward, where she takes a very intentional step into enid’s space. it’s so clear that she wants to accept enid’s hug, but she doesn’t know how, she isn’t used to it, and she sure as hell isn’t about to ask for it. typical, stubborn wednesday, not knowing how to receive enid’s blatant affection. the attention to detail here is just so perfect, and it’s such a wonderfully done scene that foreshadows the pivotal moment where wednesday finally lets down her walls enough to fall into enid.

Anyway,, saw a weyler saying that Enid may have seen Wednesday as prey in ep8 and Tyler could have potentially saved Wednesday from Enid.. and to that I have to say,

does this look like the face of a killer to you??!?! That is a SMILE if I’ve ever seen one. Girly was so proud of herself. She WANTED Wednesday to recognize her, that’s why she stopped. She WANTED Wednesday to acknowledge that she shifted, wanted Wednesday to know that she was protecting her. Like look at her. She STOPPED IN HER TRACKS while fighting a huge ass monster to fucking smile at Wednesday and be like “babe look omg I’m a real werewolf look look!!!!!!!!”

LGBT representatives immediately decided that there should be a romantic relationship between Jenna and Emma. because Jenna is a lesbian, and now they are insistently demanding this. Question: Have you ever seen a film about LGBT people that became popular?

No one “decided that there should be a relationship between Jenna and Emma”. Wenclair was ALWAYS advertised as the main pairing in Wednesday. Just look at the trailers. Hardly any mention of Xavier or Tyler, but a fair amount of Enid. Hunter Doohan said “fighting for wenclair iykyk” at a “WednesGay” event. It’s not JUST LGBT people bff, the entire cast ships it. People saw the chemistry and bond between them and decided it was a good basis for a relationship.

Anyways, that’s besides the point. Jenna isn’t a lesbian?? Idk where you got your sources from, probably Twitter, but as far as I know she hasn’t spoken once about her own sexuality. And it’s weird to speculate.

As for your third question (which isn’t really relevant but whatever), the Fear Street trilogy was quite popular in its time and is centered around two wlw characters. Will Byers and Robin from Stranger Things are canonically gay and lesbian. Heartstopper is VASTLY popular and it’s centered around a mlm relationship while having plenty of trans and wlw relationship and representation sprinkled in. That’s just to name a few

no, nope

wednesday falls for enid insanely fast (not that addams aren’t usually insane), the moment they met enid respected wednesday’s boundaries yet stayed true to herself, enid proved herself to be kind and bubbly yet dangerous, enid believed wednesday when nobody else did, enid came back when thing was hurt and firmly set her own boundaries. she accepted and cared about wednesday in a way nobody else could, in a way nobody else had ever tried to before. how could wednesday not fall absolutely in love with her?

for enid it takes a little longer, not to fall in love but to realize that she had fallen in love. wednesday is rough, she’s mean, she’s stubborn, enid can’t help but care about her all the same, she finds it endearing even. enid writes it off though, she’s a good friend, she’s a good roommate, her feelings for wednesday aren’t any different than her feelings for any of her other friends.

she had never thought about running her hands through yoko’s hair before, she had never craved holding divina’s hand, she had never dreamed about kissing bianca.

it’s confusing, her feelings for wednesday are confusing.

and then she realizes that she wants to kiss wednesday more than she wants to kiss her own boyfriend.

and then wednesday tricks enid into going to the gates house, that betrayal breaks her heart more than it should. she put so much effort into her relationship with wednesday, maybe more than she should.

and then they forgive eachother, learn to accept their differences, it feels so good.

and then wednesday is in trouble, she’s alone and in trouble and surely scared. enid rushes into the woods, defenseless as far as she knows and unable to take on whatever they might face.

she shifts for wednesday, it confirms something for her.

wednesday is in her arms, wednesday is alive wednesday is safe, wednesday is in her arms, wednesday is in her arms. she knows that she could never let go.

wednesday falls first, enid a little while after, but they are equally as in love, equally as devoted.
