This is honestly another one of my favorite scenes to hyperfixate on. There are very few instances in the show where we see Wednesday looking genuinely shocked/confused/disturbed and this is one of them.
This is probably just my headcanons running wild but…
While Wednesday did mislead Enid to get her there and put her in danger in the first place, you can tell when they’re being chased by the Hyde that she’s protecting Enid. From Wednesday’s point of view, this obviously means she cares in some capacity. The beginning scene of the show with the piranhas is how we know that’s how Wednessay shows she cares, not through words but actions.
As soon as she heard Tyler scream and Wednesday realized they were in danger she stuffs Enid in the dumbwaiter FIRST and then gets in and tries to protect them.
And then after all that and finding SOME clues Enid says this and she just looks dumbfounded.
Wednesday is really like, “I wear the snood, I take down the murder board, you’re not dead, what more could I do?”
I think starting here and throughout their fight, Wednesday realize Enid needs to be told and shown care in a different way than she’s normally used to. And THEN. The little affectionate speech Wednesday attempts to give to reassure Enid.
“The mark you left on me is indelible.” You can TELL our girl has learned something, look at her trying to show her girlfriend she cares after and is willing to put in effort for Enid’s needs the way Enid does her. WHAT OTHER person gets a speech like that from Wednesday. Nobody. They’re girlfriends case closed.
I know I’m probably reading too deeply into things, but I saw someone post this and my mind starting racing back to the scene and everything that followed. I wanted to share my thoughts because it’s honestly one of my favorite scenes because Wednesday is not going to outright say “I care” to Enid but she looked appalled that Enid even had to ask. I love it. This scene isn’t ran over with a queer magnifying glass enough.
Wednesday isn’t the type of person to verbalize she cares…until Enid wants to hear it. Smh our girl is whipped.
Wednesday and Enid would be mutually obsessed but in different ways.
Enid shows it in ways that are normally explicit and physical or tangible in some way (1. because that’s just how she is and 2. cause otherwise she’s afraid Wednesday won’t understand)
Always trying to be as close as she can to Wednesday at all times (ofc while respecting her boundaries)
Leaves her sticky notes (bright pink ones) in the most random places with little complements just cause
Would make gum wrapper hearts and writes things in them (Wednesday has kept all of them along with the sticky notes)
Texts Wednesday her every thought through the day just random things (“if a siren eats sushi is it cannibalism?”) because if they can’t be together she needs to have some sort of contact to feel grounded
Noticing when Wednesday doesn’t wanna socialize anymore and making a quick excuse so they can leave as soon as possible
Wednesdays are more a little more subtle but just as thoughtful
Finishing tasks for her because she got distracted half way through
Brings her the most random things simply cause she things Enid would like it (like a raven)
Stabbing Lovingly poking Enid in her side and reminding her to eat at lunch since she talks so much she forgets to
Writing little poems from time to time (they are really gory but cute in a Wednesday way (Enid adores them even if she’s almost fainted a few times))
Is the queen of covering corners so Enid doesn’t hit her head
Flowers!!! Sometimes their only the stems of roses, sometimes their the prettiest colored hydrangeas, sometimes their weeds she found in the woods. she’s just always giving Enid flowers to the point of Enid has always had at least one vase of flowers at all times since they started dating (When the flowers start dying Enid always drys them out and has them all in a box and refuses to get rid of them)
Wednesday is always so carefully with Enid’s feelings
1. "if he breaks your heart, i'll nail gun his" comment
2. Not declining the snood and the shopping idea with a snarky and mean way (which mind you her thing to be snarky and sharp tongue)
2.1 shopping
3. Not denying the "because we're friends right?" (she just made a sharp turn not looking at Enid sad puppy eyes 😭)
4. Asking Enid if she is okay
5. Finally admitting she is important to her
Meanwhile the moment tyler ask if they're friends Wednesday out right said no. Anyway, Wednesday whole thing is denial to slow acceptance. ( wenclair slow burn trust )
Found out that yesterday was the first anniversary of Wenclair Wednesday, so I figured I’d post this. It was supposed to be for Halloween but I couldn’t finish it in time. Better late than never, I guess.
What if Wednesday’s love of routine such as working on her novel an hour a day means her love language is something/ someone becoming a part of her daily routine. What if Enid chose an activity they could do together every day at a specific time so she could partake in Wednesday’s love language
I find it strange when people write Wednesday as this physically innocent person. Like when it comes to being intimate and stuff. I understand her having a bit of an issue with touch because she canonically does but making her be like "what's sex" is so far off it makes me laugh
There is no way Wednesdays braids don’t hurt and she doesn’t get that “my hairs been up all day” headache and yea there is a high chance she’d just enjoy that pain but i can’t help but think of Enid using her claws and running them through her scalp/hair and giving her a head massage
OH OH OMG!! So I was listening to la llorona by Chavela vargas and I had a thought. Picture me this (for a moment, if you will): Tender and cute moment where Enid and Wends slow dance to la llorona in the middle of their room. Maybe it's because Wends is teaching her how to dance in preparation for the ball. And Enid is all nervous but asks what the song is saying. Maybe wends tells her about the lesbian queen señora vargas!!! And it become like their song™!!! Wait omg, what if Enid calls wends la llorona (affectionately obvi) I think she'd like the comparison.
