Wizardrynet’s Advent Calendar: Day Twelve
The Confundus Charm (Confundo) is a charm which confuses and misdirects its target. It works on living and inanimate things, as long as the target had a mind to be confused. There are varying degrees of confusion that can be caused by the spell, ranging from becoming unaware of the current situation, to forgetting important information, and even becoming particularly impressionable.

Remus reads a lot so he can keep up with the syllabus despite his frequent moon-related absences, so sometimes he’ll spend a week at his favourite table in the library reading about how the nuances of wrist movements can affect non-verbal spell-casting, and the Marauders have to come up with their most ingenious pranks to lure him away from his studies.
But Remus learns best by doing, so sometimes he’ll wake his friends up at 12:30 AM on a Tuesday because he really feels like he won’t be able to absorb this Defense Against the Dark Arts material unless he personally fights a Grindylow, so “do you guys wanna sneak a quick dash down to the lake so we can practice on the real thing?”
(Of course they wanna sneak down to the lake to fight a Grindylow with you, Remus. Just give James five minutes to find his Speedo.)
